I cant play my itunes library on my ipad or itouch only via the remote app and on the speakers available to my apple tv or my PC. Should I see a sharede devices menu in itunes ?

My recommendation would be to set this up as a brand new iPhone, just as if it came out of the box.
Do that in Settings > General > Reset > Erase all content and settings
You will then be directed to the welcome to iPhone screen, just as you would with a brand new device.

Can't get iPad to play iTunes Library from LaCie Fuel

Hi All,
First time poster here so I hope I'm posting in the right section!
I bought a Lacie Fuel specifically for my husband to be able to access our iTunes library when he's off working at remote sites for weeks on end. I followed all the instructions on how to copy the library to the drive and install the Seagate media app on the iPad. The app recognises the library and all the media files - even the artwork - but when we go to play something, it opens a internet browser screen, says it's loading then just comes up with a grey strip across the screen and a 'play' arrow... however it will not play no matter what you do from this point.
IVe spoken extensively with LaCie support and they've exhausted all their options in trying to assist me. They eventually told me to speak to Apple as they can only assume it's an iTunes/iTunes Store permissions issue. Apple fobbed me off saying it's not their hardware so not their problem.
Apparently this device works fine for 'everyone' else!
So the facts are as below;
* any file that is in the library but not bought from the iTunes Store plays through the iPad fine.
* I ensured I copied the entire iTunes library and all associated files across to the LaCie Fuel - I.e: not just the actual movies and TV files themselves. I was careful about this as I'm gathering the permissions would be tied into files associated with the library somehow?
* my iTunes Library is stored on an external hard drive but still works fine through iTunes on the Mac Desktop and our various Apple TV's.
* the Mac desktop is running OSX 10.9.5 and iPad mini (brand new as of a month ago) is running the latest software. iTunes is 12.1.0.50. The Seagate App is also the latest version.
Has anyone else had the problem? I'm so frustrated at having spent so much money on this - and disappointed my husband so much as it was the perfect solution for him - only to be unable to get it to work!

Unfortunately I don't have first hand experience with the Lacie device but reading your question you said you installed the Seagate media app. I checked the App Store and there is also a LaCie app by Seagate. Check also the link below. I,m going to ask the hosts to move your question to the iPad Forum, hopefully someone has an answer for you.

Other than syncing the entire library from my imac, can I use home sharing to play music and movies stored in my iMac's iTunes library on my ipad without actually syncing and downloading to the ipad?

Repair your Quicktime.
START > CONTROL PANEL > PROGRAMS N FEATURES / hightlight QUICKTIME and click CHANGE then REPAIR.

I recently backed up my desktop iMac with a Lacie Porsche external hard drive into Time Machine. I'm hoping to be able to use the external hard drive to play my iMac's iTunes library on my MacBook Air, as there isn't nearly enough memory on the MacBook to transfer all my audio files to it. It seems like I can play one audio file at a time by going into the external hard drive, but is it possible to access the entire iTunes library directly from the external hard drive?

I have over 200 songs in my music library, but every time I drag the songs into my iPad library and sync, it still doesn't show up in my music app,on my iPad.

If you sync your iTunes with your iPad, it deletes all of the music on the iPad. There is a prompt window that advises the user of this.
So if you want to drag music to your iPad manually, then do so, but do not sync after performing this task.

Connect the iPad to your computer, launch iTunes, select the iPad from under the devices heading, select all of the content that you want to sync in all of the iTunes Tabs, Music, Apps, Photos, Movies, Books, etc., select all of the headings as well - Sync Music, Sync Photos, Sync Apps etc. then sync the iPad.

Playing itunes movies on iPad

Hi all,
I downloaded a full TV series of NCIS on iTunes via apple TV 2, but can't play it on my iPad 2. When I look for the show on the iPad (shared via home sharing from my mac) I see a blank icon with "series 2" under it but no show name. When I open the series, I get blank icons, but the synopsis of each episode is available.
Whenever I open an episode it says "cannot open" and returns to the series synopsis of each episode without playing anything. Every other video that I've downloaded or converted from another format to apple TV plays fine, but this is the only series that I've purchased via apple TV then downloaded to iMac. All episodes play fine on apple TV, but won't work on iPad or iPhone. I've done a soft and hard reset on both, logged out of my account and back in, but still have the same problem.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong or how to fix it? Google has not been my friend despite 8 hours looking!

This keeps getting more interesting. I have the same problem on my iPhone 4.
Another weird thing is that I can't update or download any apps from the app store. I've tried signing out of the store in Settings, restarting the iPad, and signing back, but still no luck with the App Store. I get an error that says, "Cannot connect to iTunes store."
Maybe even more odd is that my iPad will play purchased iTunes songs over Home Sharing. Have you tried playing anything else, or downloading something from the App store?
The next thing I'll try, when I get a chance, is just manually syncing it to my main Mac and see if that overrides whatever bug is going on.

Apple TV Remote starts playing iTunes Library at random! HELP?

I've been having this problem for a while now, and I've been avoiding it as much as possible. I have the fairly new Apple TV (last Christmas) and a OS X Mountain Lion Macbook Pro. When I have both my Apple TV and my Mac running at the same time, each time I press a button on the Remote, my iTunes library turns on, plays, pauses or turns the volume up or down. It's very annoying as you can imagine. I'd like to get this issue resolved ASAP.

If you don't want to use a remote with your computer the easiest thing to do is just to turn the IR off. (System Preferences > Security > General, click on the Advanced button in the bottom right corner - If the button is greyed out, click on the lock icon and enter your administrators password))
If you still want to use your computer remote then you must pair your computers remote with the computerAND the Apple TV remote with the Apple TV.
To pair a remote with a device hold down the menu and FF buttons together for six seconds or until you see a chain icon on screen (best take the computer into another room, or turn it off, when you do this)

I have my iTunes library copied to an external HD. I want to play it through my iTunes account on my MacBook Air, but don't have the room to import it all. Is there a setting to have iTunes play from a remote disc without importing the tunes to the computer itself?

By the way, the alternative (esp if you don't have a library file on the external disk) is to add the external drive's media files to your laptop's iTunes library on your local hard disk. The downside is that (a) if the external disk is unavailable when you start iTunes, you'll see next to the music in iTunes (telling you that the files are unavailable); and (b) as you manage music on that external disk, you'll have to manually update iTunes on the other computer.
Probably better to keep the library file on the external disk if that external disk ever is going to be disconnected from the the machine or connected to another machine. But if you'd like guidance for keeping the library file on your laptop and media files on the external disk, let us know.
