Playing iTunes videos to a personal DVD player

I'd like to play iTunes videos on my DVD player. I copied them on to a USB, then tried to play them on the DVD player. But they show up as "MPEG4" files and a red circle with a line through it appears. Guess that means it's a No Go. Any suggestions? Advice? Help? Thanks.

Well, I wondered...I tried playing the videos off the USB while it was plugged into my computer, and the video file in iTunes opened. Does that make sense to you? Yes, they do play on my iPod, but I hear you telling me I am NOT going to be able to play them on the DVD player. I also tried burning them onto a DVD disc, but that didn't work either.

You can't boot OS X with a Windows boot device.

    Thanks for your help.

Yes, the lowest possible Burn speed will be a step in the direction of compatibility.
As for the Quality setting, Robert Johnson has done tests on various versions of PE and has recommend a setting of about 7.8 (IIRC). Unlike Encore, where one has many more choices, PE limits one to a Quality setting of 8. This is about equivilent to the recommend 7MB/s in Encore. Robert found that just below the 8 max. actually yielded slightly better results, than did the full 8, on his tests.
The three things that help to insure the greatest compatibility with set-top players are, and in pretty much this order:
1.) Quality media - Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden or Falcon (US only)
2.) Burn speed (slower is better. It might take a few minutes more, but if it works, you don't have returns or have to do it again.)
    3.) Bit-rate around 7MB/sec
Remember - no set-top player HAS to play any Burned DVD. Most do, but some just do not - only replicated, pressed discs. Also, some player are still sensitive to the -R and +R media types. This is less a problem with newer units, however it still could be an issue with many older ones.
Personally, I test a "master" on four different players, plus my computer, before I Burn a batch, or ship out any. One unit is a very high-end Marantz, another is a mid-level Marantz, one is an RCA "el cheapo" and the other is an older Pioneer. I figure if the disc plays everywhere, there is a good chance that it will play for the client - though there are still no guarantees.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Burning ITunes video (LOST) onto a DVD

    Hello all,
Can someone please tell me how I can burn Lost onto a DVD so I can watch it on my home DVD player?
    Thanks

    Chip,
I am having the same problem. I tried burning it as a data DVD and playing it in an MPEG4 compatable DVD player. That did not work. I think apple only allows you to play it on authorized computers or iPODs, if so thats crap.
Let me know if you find a solution.

  • Play iTunes video through large screen off a Dual 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5

I want to play iTunes videos out through my cpu onto a large screen format. Does not have to be HDTV, any screen will do. I own a digital firewire camera if that would help. Is there a compostie video out on my CPU? Some method to convert it to composite or component video? What about using something from Canopus to convert the signal? Any ideas?
    Thanks.

A replacement card MUST be Mac specific unless you have the know how to hack the ROM to a Mac ROM (flash in a PC first).

  • Playing ITunes video on TV

I have a laptop that does not have a S video or composite video out. So in order to play video from my laptop on a TV I need to purchase something. I'm considering getting a wireless media adaptor. Will I be able to play ITunes videos on this type of device?
    Thanks,
    Charlie

Apple themselves sell a DVI to coax/Svideo adaptor. Results were acceptable. I used one to display the desktop of my MacMini on my TV until I got a new HDTV with DVI input. You may need a mini DVI version on your iBook (Guess I'm being presumptious there...).

  • HT4072 Can I play audio from movies in the DVD player using iTunes or Airplay?

I would like to play audio from movies in the MacBook DVD player using iTunes or Airplay? Is this possible?

Is it important that the music come from a video, or are you just looking to listen to music in the background, while doing something else.  If the later, you can certainly play music from the Music App, Pandora, or iHeart Radio, etc., and with the music playing, tap your home button to go to your home page and open anything else you want and the music will continue.
I don't have any videos to try out right now, but you try the same thing out and if the music continues, it works.  If it doesn't, it doesn't.

  • No video when playing disc burned from iDVD on DVD player

I've tried for the first time to burn a DVD (TV shows purchased on iTunes) and followed the directions from the iDVD help guide, but when I try to play on my external DVD player there's no video, only audio. I saw a couple posts where people had video and no audio, but not the opposite. How do I resolve? I'm using Memorex DVD-R discs and am not very technologically savvy.

    Hi fitzmonster
Welcome to apple discussions. Just to add to the already good advice mentioned above. I do have a question. By any chance are you using Memorex Dvd's? If so, it simply adds one more variable to an already bad equation. Try Verbatim or Maxell instead.
Given the lack of recent updates to iDvd, seems to me Apple is currently focused on streaming content from your Mac to your TV thru such products as iTunes and their latest AppleTV. iDvd doesn’t always fit into this mix. In comparison, iDvd is dated / old technology centered entirely on standard definition TV. Their latest AppleTV is well beyond this.
Also there are many products out there that work rather well together and may be better matched on your mac other than iTunes, AppleTV and iDvd. One must keep in mind that iDvd is not really intended as a general purpose burn utility. Toast may be a better choice here but neither iDvd nor Toast will circumvent DRM.
So the question we need to ask is, How well do all three apple apps / products mentioned above play together? Are they in harmony? IMHO the answer is no .... mainly because iDvd is rather dated technology. Hence, as a consumer I do think it's smart to look elsewhere / at other products /options if the intention is to burn TV Programs to Dvd-R ... as opposed to streaming content from a mac to your TV or iPod.
Like I said, Roxio Toast is a reasonable choice but Elgato combined with EyeTV3 software is even better one. It's better because it’s written and built around recording TV shows / programs. That and it's not limited to iTunes.

  • DVD from PE9 won't play in computer let alone another DVD player

I produced a 7 minute video in HD. I can play it on my computer either as HD or at standard res from files produced via the "Computer:Export files..." on the Share menu. I need to produce a standard NTSC DVD and when I burn using the "Disc: Burn DVD..." I get a message that the burn has been completed successfully. Yet the DVD will not play on my computer if I reinsert in in the same drive I just used to burn it, and won't play in a regular DVD player either. The computer doesn't even see the disc if I search for it. I've read a lot of stuff about DVD-Rs and booktypes and bitsetting but this doesn't seem to apply here since the computer can't read its own disc. Burning a copy of the files burned to folders doesn't work either. The DVD burner burns everything else just fine. I am using DVD+Rs. Would it make any difference if I used DVD-Rs? Or is there anything else anyone can suggest? I am using Windows 7 Professional. Thanks.

    >burning to a folder
If you are able to write (not burn) the folder structure to your hard drive, you may use the FREE http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download to write files or folders or ISO to disc
Put a commercial DVD in your drive and take a look with Windows Explorer to see the folder structure and the types of files... and make sure what you write to a folder from PE is similar

  • DVD +R  will play on computer but not on DVD player, what happened?

    Hi,
I burned a dvd on using DVDSP and it will not play on our dvd player but will play on the macbook pro dvd player. Should I try a DVD-R or are there other considerations that I should be aware of?
    Thanks,

I created dvd's using idvd and successfully played them in our dvd players, but when I created dvd using the same videos, I cannot play them on the dvd player.I used the standard menu template in idvd to create the dvd. I created a menu with HD video in DVDSP is that the issue as to why it won't play?

  • DVD Burned from iDVD 6.0.1 plays on iMac but not a DVD player?

After burning a DVD production on DVD-RW and DVD+RW CDs and both directly from iDVD and by first creating a disc image. In all cases they worked on my iMac but none of them worked on the DVD player. Only the DVD+RW is compatible with the player and it appears the DVD starts to load but can not finish the process. Is there something I missed or is there a bug in iDVD 6.0.1?
The iDVD production was made from scratch using Magic iDVD and some video files. The Map has no errors and there where no error messages.

Is there something I missed or is there a bug in iDVD 6.0.1?
The bug is probably the format you're burning to...
Use DVD-R. I'd recommend Verbatim DVD-R burned at 4x or slower. I'll bet that will play just fine...as long as the DVD player is relatively new (2-3 years old).

  • DVD Created with IDVD Will Play on Computer, But Not in DVD Player

I loaded some video into IMovie, then went to IDVD to create a DVD. It previews fine and the disk burned fine. I can play the disk back in the computer, but when I drop it in a Panasonic DVD Player, it won't play.
I've been burning for some time now and haven't had this problem before. Disks burned two weeks ago are fine, these are not.
I've tried a couple different brands of disks, it makes no matter.
    I'm at a loss.

One of the limitations of iDVD 4 is that 'out of the box' it doesn't support the creation of disk image files - just burning to writable media.
Your problems sound to be high burn error related. With newer versions of iDVD you can create a disk image file out of iDVD and use Apple's Disk Utility to burn the image to writable media at a low (4x or lower) speed. This reduces the amount of burn errors. None of the iDVD versions prior to the current iDVD '08 had any provision for reducing the burn speed.
What brand of media are you using? (Maxell and Verbatim have good track records around here.)

  • Buttons over video is crashing Apple DVD player!

I have 4 menus (tracks) that use buttons over video. The first one plays just fine- the buttons come up after a second & disappear 30 seconds later(then the menu continues into a film). The other 3 menus crash 1-2 seconds before the buttons over video forces the subtitle to become visible. here's what i've done to troubleshoot:
-set a different menu to be first play
-swapped out the m2v/ac3 files to see if that was causing the issue
-moved my menus/tracks to different VTSs (using dvdsp 4)
-shifted the hi-lite markers forward and back to various times
    -swapped out the overlay file
All my tracks were created exactly the same- using the same BOV structure (13 buttons in all)... I'm completely baffled. One works fine and the rest don't work at all!!
p.s. i burned the disc and tested it on a regular dvd player.. seems to work fine, but it still crashes on the computer.
    PowermacG4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   DVD Studio Pro 4

I figured out the problem so I'll wrap up the thread in case someone else runs into this problem...
I was using dvdSP's ability to "offset" the overlay file in order to make my highlights match up perfectly. For some reason if the offset differs from one overlay to the next in the same subtitle stream, it causes apple dvd player to crash.
    example:
(all motion menus were created on one track with BOV & then separated into stories for easy targeting)
subtile(BOV) 1 had an overlay file offset to 0x & -4y & subtitle(BOV)2, my second menu, had an overlay file offset to 3x & -1y.
The first one would play fine, but as soon as apple dvd player detected the next subtitle it would crash. I solved the problem by editing my overlay files in photoshop to compensate for the offsets & leaving the offset in DVDSP untouched. weird... but it works now.

  • Problems playing itunes videos continuosly in Full Screen

    Hi guys,
I have a small problem. I started to buy Videos in itunes music store and building my own MTV. So far, so good. My problem started when I started to buy some DVDs, converting the videos to MP4 format and then adding them to my itunes library. I have kept the same resolution than the original itunes videos, but I have changed the frame rate to have a little bit more quality.
When I select a video, iTunes plays it in full screen (as it is selected in the preferences). If the second video is another original iTunes, it continues in full screen. But as soon as one of the non iTunes videos starts, it goes to the main window and plays the video in the small section at the bottom-left of the screen (selected as "Now Playing"). Then, the next video goes back to full screen, even if it is a non-itunes one. It is very anoying since I have to put it back in Full screen manually.
Does anybody have the same issue? I am using the last release and patch level of Mac OS and itunes. I think that it might be related with the way that I imported the videos (using Handbrake 7). May be I need to use exactly the same format that Apple uses in itunes. Does anybody knows the exact video format that Apples uses? Do you think that it may be related with issue?
One last point. I have experienced the same problem in two different Macs. One Power PC and one Intel... I have already given up...
Thanks in advance for your help,
    G. Acilu

    I HAVE THE SOLUTION!
I too was experiencing non-full screen playback between music videos / movies. I discovered that this only happened if I had en EQUALIZER setting for the music video / movie. Once I had NONE as the EQUALIZER setting my music videos / movies all played back full screen from one to the next.
Change your settings in the equalizer column as suggested and see if this works for you. It solved my problem, although I do not have my desired equalizer settings in operation!
