Playing just one song

New to this so please excude me! iTunes was behaving very well until earlier today when it started playing just the highlighted track and not continuing through the rest of my library as before. Any ideas on how I can get back to the 'runthrough' mode?
Cheers, rachiet.

Have the tracks become unchecked? iTunes will skip unchecked tracks, so if they're all unchecked, iTunes will play one and then stop. If this is indeed the case, re-checkmark the tracks - control-click on any checkbox on a Windows system will select or unselect them all - and you should then have continuous playback.

  • How can I get my iPad to play just one song from my playlist and then stop automatically?

I am a music teacher and I use the iPod on my iPad to play songs in class.  I have a long playlist of songs to choose from in each class, and I want to play just one song at a time.  I want to be able to start one song from my playlist and then walk away from my iPad and have it stop automatically when that song is over.  (I know how to make it repeat the same song over and over, but tha'ts not what I need.  I also know how to push "pause," but I don't want to have to walk away from the children to do it.) How can I make it play one song from a playlist at a time?

I don't believe that there is a way to do that except, perhaps, creating a separate Playlist for each song.

  • How to play just one song?

How can I get my iPod to play just one musical piece--to not automatically go on and play every song after it continuously? I listen to classical and symphonies can be 40-60 minutes long. I would like it to stop after one so I can then choose another. Can I set it to stop after each selection?

What happens if you go into the artist or album lis and juts pick the one album it is on? I am fairly sure that when you play an album, it plays everything in the album and then stops.
So if your symphony is a single album, you should be able to pick the album and play it that way (vs. going in and searching for the song in the big song list).

  • How do I play just one song?

I have a lot of Classical music. I imported whole pieces and joined them so they appear as one song.
If I chose any song in a playlist it will play that one and when it is finished it will go to the next.
I would like to play one song and then have iTunes stop. Is this possible, or do I have to create a playlist with just the one song?
    iTunes 8.1

Unchecking songs can create other issues down the road. Easier method is this: select the song and use Command + Shift + N. This create a new playlist with the single song. (The playlist will also appear in your Source list...so if you don't want to keep it, make sure to delete it later.)
You could also control-click the song and choose Show in Finder, then play from there. There may be other methods which are easier, these are just ones that I know of.

  • Who wants to play just one song?

Does anyone know why I can only play one song in iTunes now? It doesn't matter which playlist, or in the main library, it plays one song and then stops!!!
Shuffle doesn't matter, repeat doesn't work, just when I needed iTunes the most it acts like its windows software!

Do you have check marks in the box to the left of your songs' name? If not, itunes will ignore each song unless you select it by clicking on it.
To check all songs in your music library or a playlist, hold down the "command" key while clicking the check box..

  • How to play just one song at a time

I have been looking around in iTunes to see how in the heck I can tell it to only play one song at a time when I double click a song in my library (and not the next song). Anybody have any idea if this is even possible? Am I overlooking something?

If you don't use the checkboxes for any other purpose then ctrl+click any checkbox to check/uncheck all visible items. If all items are unchecked iTunes will play any track you double-click on and then stop. As and when you want to listen to an album or a playlist straight through you can make use of the Up Next feature which plays all tracks added to it regardless of checked status.

  • IPod 2G playing music with shuffle will only repeat just one song

When I start playing music on my iPod it will repeat just one song.

Do you have the repeat feature turned on?  It is the racetrack-like icon on the left side of the screen below the scrubber bar.  Tap the icon to cycle through the variuos modes (off, repeat play list, repeat one song). Thus is covered in chapter 4 (Music) of the Users Guide.

  • IPhone plays only one song at a time

After 2 weeks of the iPod feature of my iPhone working just perfectly, last night I discovered it will no longer go through a play list. No matter what I do, it plays only one song, repeatedly - either a song I choose or a song selected randomly by hitting Shuffle. Shuffle only chooses the first song randomly, after which that song plays over and over unless I manually choose another. I deleted my playlists this morning, rebooted iTunes, re-synced my playlists to the iPhone, same problem. Other than having to go through an entire Restore, are there any other options? This actually occurred out of the blue, NOT after a re-sync with the computer, therefore NOT caused by the iTunes update to 7.3.1.

THANK YOU!!! I never would have found that myself because I don't even look at albums let alone play whole albums. My playlists are favorite songs from here and there and rarely more than one or two from any particular album. I don't know how that got changed since I have never looked at an album before, didn't know there were time and shuffle markers. I must have gone bump in the dark... so thank you again!

  • When I try to burn music from my Playlist to a blank CD, the notification tells me that the list has too many minutes for the CD, even if I try to burn just one song. What's going on?

WHEN I TRY TO BURN MUSIC FROM MY PLAYLIST TO A BLANK CD, THE NOTIFICATION COMES UP AND TELLS ME I AM EXCEEDING THE NUMBER OF MINUTES THE CD WILL HOLD. THIS NOTIFICATION HAPPENS EVEN IF I TRY TO BURN JUST ONE SONG. WHAT'S GOING ON?

Katy, you are completely doing things in the wrong order.  You can't burn songs if you can't even play them, and iTunes can't play them if it can't find them.
The exclamation point normally occurs if the song file, or one of its containing folders, has been moved, renamed or deleted.  So if you encounter a track with an exclamation point, don't do anything else until you find the file.  It is usually somewhere else on your hard drive, or else in the Recycle bin.  Failing both of those, get it from your most recent backup.
After your restore it, make sure it can play.  If it can play you can put it into a playlist.  Then you can burn the playlist.

  • IPod classic 80GB playing just one podcast episode

I upgraded from my Fifth generation iPod and was wondering if it was possible to set my iPod Classic 80GB to play just one podcast episode and then return to the menu? It seems like the default is to move to the next podcast episode after the prior one is finished. Thanks

Yes, turn on shuffle song/albums! I know - that makes no sense
    Either:
    1. use the Settings menu, go to shuffle and turn it on, or;
    2. while playing a song press the select (centre) button until the shuffle option appears and then turn it on.
Then when you play a Podcast the display will show 1 of 1 (instead of the 1 of X that you see now!) and at the end of that one episode, it will stop.
One important thing to note though, there is a shuffle option on the *Main Menu* but if you use that to start shuffle, it will not change the Podcasts to play-one-episode only. (For this reason, I removed the shuffle option from the *Main Menu* .)
I only found this by accident - if it's documented, I can't find it!

  • Transfer just one song from iPod nano to mbp

    Hi,
I have an 6G ipod nano and I wanted to trasnfer just one song onto my boyfriend's mbp (which is not synced to my nano). There is a transfer purchase option, but it transfers everything, is there a way to transfer just 1 song?
    Thanks
    Angela

Not unless you put only one song onto your device. Purchases can't be separated into single items to choose and transfer.
And remember that songs are tied to the account they were bought with. You might have to authorize the Mac, to be able to play the music.

  • How do I change the start/stop time for multiple songs not just one song at a time?

How do I chnage the start/stop time for multiple songs not just one song at a time?

I don't think you can in iTunes.
Multiple editing in Get Info does not offer an option to change start/stop times.

  • I want to sync just one song from an album to my iphone

I want to sync just one song from an album to my iphone

Okay, so what is your question?

  • Ever since I updated the operating system, itune doesn't play music on iphone 4. if it plays, it plays only one song and gets stuck.

Ever since I updated the operating system, itune doesn't play music on iphone 4. If it plays, it plays only one song and gets stuck. I've tried to reconnect to the computer to see whethere there has been missing portion during the upgrade... but not really. does anyone have the same issue?

    What does "gets stuck" mean?
    It repeats?
    It stops playing?
Have you tried the basics from the manual?  Restart.  Reset.  Restore.
