Playing movies display trouble

here's what I have now. My macbook is set up to a mitsubishi projector and I'm trying to run a keynote presentation on it.
I'm able to get everything to work fine with the presentation, the notes are on the laptop and the projector screen simply shows the current slide so everything works fine. The only thing tripping me up is when I have a movie in the slideshow the image of the movie does not appear on my laptop. There is nothing wrong with the display on the projector screen, that works fine, and the sound even comes out fine from my laptop but is there a way to get the movie to play on my latop as well as the projector display?

i restarted itunes and my atv2 (i was watching netflix at the time) went back to the menu as if it was disconnected from the network. however, this couldnt be repeated so maybe it was a spurious thing.
anyway, the music now plays just fine from my ipad and mbp.
its the video that will not work.
i noticed that i had to chnage the file extension of some files to "m4v" to be able to put them on the ipad (others transferred as "mp4) so i didnt know if this mattered. i was under the impression that as long as an audio or video file opened and played in itunes it could be played on any apple device (ipod, ipad, iphone, atv, etc). is this correct? if not, what format to i use when converting video to watch on my ipad or stream to atv2? i want to put my home movies on m tv as background when i am studying or otherwise occupied but just need something in the back ground.

  • Subtitles are not getting displayed while playing movies

    Hi,
Recently I have upgraded with Max OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. After this upgrade whenever I play movies in my VLC player, I am getting a message as "freetype: failed to load font file /System/Library/Fonts/LucidaGrande.dfont" and then the subtitles are not displayed.
Can someone advise how to resolve it? I tried to download LucidaGrande.dfont from internet. But I couldnt find one. Please help.
    Thanks.
    Ravi

Hello, Ravi & welcome to the forums.
Lucida Grande is included with Mac OS X.
Check and validate all of your fonts with Apple's Font Book (look in the Applications folder). Search for Lucida Grande to be sure it was properly installed. Find and remove duplicates as well.
Also, don't hesisate to perform wholesale deletion of old and/or little used fonts - be skeptical of anything that has come from Office 2008, including those related to an Equation Editor installation.
Finally, be sure all the apps you are using are compatible with SnowLeopard. Check with their authors for updates.

  • Not allowed to play movie, an external display is detected (Q1544)

I'm getting this message on my I-pad 2 while using my Uverse app
"Not allowed to play movie, an external display is detected (Q1544).
There is no problem using the Netflix app.

There isn't a workaround, if you get that message then the provider has blocked using Airplay or an external monitor. Contact Uverse and ask them to remove the block.

  • Is anyone having trouble playing movies they purchased?  I have no issue watching netflix or previews but I can't watch what I already purchased.

Is anyone having trouble playing movies they purchased?  I have no issue watching netflix or previews but I can't watch what I already purchased.

A number of people have reported similar issues recently, many appear to have found a discrepancy of some kind in their account settings and making changes to these settings or simply resetting them has resolved the matter.
Check your account details are correct, check that you are using the correct details for Location, Region and Time Zone. You may want to change these settings and then change them back to see if that helps.
Also check your payment details, make sure your details are exactly how they appear on your credit card statement, you might also try changing some of those details, saving them and changing them back again.
You might also try logging out of and then back into your iTunes account (Settings > iTunes Store > Apple ID’s > Sign Out) and restarting your router. (Some have reported that after doing this, they need to check for rentals even though it may report that there aren’t any, after which rentals once again appear in the ‘movies’ feature)
Rentals should appear under their own heading in the ‘Movies’ feature, you might also check at Settings > iTunes Store > Check For Rentals.
At this point in time, I’m wondering if this could be related to (but not restricted to) the new feature that allows others to come into your home and use your Apple TV to download and play their content on your Apple TV without logging into their account on your Apple TV. The Terms of Use for iTunes Store content have always been to require you to only purchase and play the content from the store in the location where you live and to use a credit card registered in that location. Previously Apple seem to have been somewhat lenient on enforcing such restrictions, perhaps now they are not. However I don’t really have any evidence to support this suggestion, except that changes made to accounts in these areas do appear to be helping many.
If you are successful in resolving your problem, perhaps you would let us know exactly which action resolved the problem for you. If you are having this problem to begin with, can you also tell us your location.

  • Error message cannot play movie on attached display

I have my iPod Touch (4th Generation) hooked up to a HDMI AV dock and my Samsung HD LED TV. I keep getting a message that says Cannot Play Movie. Selected display cannot play protected movies.

That means that the dock is not HDCP complient..
HDCP stands for High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection and was developed by Intel Corporation. It's nothing more than a security feature requiring compatibility between the sender and receiver, like HD cable set-top box and the TV. By compatibility, I mean HDCP technology built into both devices.
Think of HDCP as a security license key like you would input when installing a computer program. Only this security key is invisible to you and me but not your TV.

  • Having trouble playing movies through the iPod

Does the iPod have to be in a certain mode to play movies through a component cable

Assuming that a compatible cable is being used to output the video to a capable TV, you also need to make sure the TV Out setting is enabled from under Video -> Video Settings -> TV Out.
See this article to determine if you are using the correct cable for your model iPod.

  • A few days ago my TV show and movie displays went whacky-the shows are no longer in alpha order, there are multiple listings of the same show, the pictures are random-including album covers.  I downloaded latest version.  Any ideas??

A few days ago my TV show and movie displays went whacky-the shows are no longer in alpha order, there are multiple listings of the same show, the pictures are random-including album covers.  I downloaded latest version & no change.  Any ideas??

    ME TOO.
I think mine are all still in alphabetical order, but :
    * movies I deleted from my library and told "hide this purchase in the cloud" are showing up again. If I try to play them, I get the "cannot find the file in its proper location, would you like to locate it" error message.
    * for movies that have "iTunes Extras," the extras show up as a separate item, with another copy of the movie artwork. Most of these I believe I had DELETED the "iTunes Extras" anyway.
    * Items are showing up multiple times.
    * A few MUSIC ALBUMS are listed in my Movies section.
    * Some movies (I believe ones that I deleted off my HD but are still in the cloud) are showing random album covers instead of their proper artwork.
    * Just rented a movie, and it didn't show up anywhere in my library. It downloaded properly and completely, was in a suitably labeled folder in my iTunes/Media/Movies section, but didn't show up in any section of the library (or via a library search). Had to manually find it and tell it to open the file using iTunes.
Running the latest version, even checked for updates. No other changes made lately since the last round of apple software updates. This was wonky before the latest small update to iTunes - now it's even wonkier. And it is very, VERY effing annoying.

  • Itunes 10.5 not playing movies on apple tv

iTunes 10.5 has been nothing but trouble since I first tried to install it.  First there were registry issues preventing me from installing.  Fixed those.  Then it wouldn't connect to Home Sharing.  That went away somehow.  Then it kept disappearing from my Apple TV, which I fixed by adding manual entries to my Windows Firewall.  Now I can't play movies from my iTunes on my Apple TV, which is bizarrely frustrating because I could two days ago.  I can play music and even music videos, but no movies.  The movies play fine on my PC.

    Hi Scott,
i have very similar problem but even with older versions.
all of my devices all use iOS 4.x, iTunes upgraded to 10.5 since a week now.
    here is my situation:
    - My itunes Windows 7 PC can ping all other devices.
    - AirportExpress Admin Tool cannot find any device.
    - iTunes does not find remote Speakers.
    but:
    - iPad1 & iPhone4 with iOS 4.x can play movies via AirTune EVERY time.
    - AppleTV2 with latest iOS update can play youtube videos and online streaming content EVERY time.
    - iTunes Windows PC has online Access every time.
    - iTunes has well working access to NAS Harddrive with music and photos.
to me it seems like bonjour does not work quite well, but i have no idea how to double check connection. is there a way to do ping / traceroute / nslookup from ATV2 without jailbreaking?
I would really like to have more technical information in iOS devices to do error determination and investigation.
last weekend i completely reinstalled Windows 7 and iTunes from scratch, as my problem exists since a couple of iOS 4.x updates. i remember it worked quite well in the beginning of 2011 with iOS 3 everywhere.
    any ideas welcome !

  • Netflix "Play" Movies on HDTV

Have Intel late 2008 Macbook 2.0 connected to Sony HDTV via mini DVI to HDMI. After initial startup I see my desktop background image on Sony sans toolbar and desktop icons. Opening up Netflix "Play" movies shows movie on Macbook but not on Sony. However, from another discussion was told to move movie to the right off Macbook screen and low and behold will appear on HDTV. If I move all bot a small sliver of the movie off to the right I can get most all of movie to show on HDTV. In order to pause one needs to "grab" the remaining sliver on Macbook screen and drag back to Macbook screen. Also don't see how one can select "full screen" option with this dragging to the right procedure.
Also on another issue when DVI to HDTV connector is operational my Cox high speed internet connection goes to below dial up speed. Any idea what is going on here?
Would like to learn what others have experienced in watching Netflix movies with Macbook linked to
    to HDTV.

Just found solution to part of my question that by going to Display in System Preferences selecting "Mirror Displays" I can see full movie on both Macbook and DHTV without having to move movie to the right of Macbook screen.
Also ran speedtest.net and with new Display setup internet speed is up to stuff.

  • Error Playing Movie with htaccess

If I use .htaccess file to authenticate connections to my stock apache/10.4.11 web server, the iPhone will error out with "Error Playing Movie" when it tries to access the file. It does authenticate and show the contents of the directory. It will also view other document types, such as html files, without error. If I remove the .htaccess, it will play the movie.
I dont recall my previous iPod Touch exhibiting this behavior, however I no longer have it available for testing.
    Packet capture on the shows:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN">

Is this an iPhone/Safari problem, or apache problem? The site works fine using the Camino browser within OS X. Any ideas?

I can play that movie when I am connected via wi-fi -- it does not play for me via Edge (at least right where I am sitting :>).
This does happen a lot -- often a movie needs the bandwidth of wi-fi to play properly and if you are in a sketchy Edge territory you may have problems. Are you connected via wi-fi? Make sure it says that on your iPhone (you can see the wi-fi symbol right next to the AT&T on the top left of the iPhone display -- looks like little waves). If the video still doesn't play when you are connected via wi-fi let me know and we'll see what else we can try.

  • ITunes won't play .mov QuickTime files anymore

My hard drive crashed two weeks ago and it has been replaced and almost all of the information was salvaged--thank god!
However, now in iTunes when I go to play a movie that previously played in iTunes, it says that the file requires QuickTime and that it is not supported by this version of iTunes.
I have over 9,000 movies in my iTunes MOVIES section that are of various formats (none are flv or avi, as I don't think iTunes has ever played those).  I've never had trouble playing mov, mp4, m4v, mpg files before.  Is this likely a problem with my reinstall of iTunes or is it that the latest version of iTunes has limited parameters than prior versions?
Thanks for any imput.  I'd really like to be able to play all of my movies in iTunes like I could before.
    Chad

I'm sorry that I have no solution to offer, but I also have noticed that several video files with the .mov extension that used to play just fine will no longer play in either the current QuickTime Player or in the older QT Pro Player 7. I have no idea what changed.

  • Ipad mini got strucked when playing movie

I am having ipad mini and when I was playing movie on that it got hanged and I tried of reseting but it was not happing so what to do now???

First thing to try is a reboot of your iPad. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart. See if that fixes your problem.
Is that what you did when you said you tried to restart?
You might also try quitting the app you are using to play the movie. Go to the Home screen and double click the Home button. That will reveal the row of recently used apps at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold on the app in question until it wiggles and displays a minus sign. Tap the minus sign to actually quit the app. Then tap anywhere on the screen above that bottom row to return the screen to normal. Then restart the app and see if it works normally.

  • Can't play .mov file!!

    hello,
i'm having some trouble playing .mov-files.. I can watch trailers on apple.com but when I have a mov-file on the pc, it opens with a flashy green screen and pressing play will only give my a static (mostly green) and no noise.. this goes also for iTunes, movies there i cannot open but i can watch them on my ipod..
    anybody any ideas?
    thanks

What codec is this HD file? If they shot and captured in the Sony XDCAM EX format, FCP 5.1.4 won't be able to see that. The XDCAM EX support comes only with FCP 6.0.3.

  • My macbook air is running slow when playing movies

anyone! my macbook air is running low when playing movies and I also noticed when opening certain websites, any suggestions on how clean the computer or fix the issue!
    Thank you much

    Hi ana1773gar,
I understand your MacBook Air is not performing as expected. The following article provides troubleshooting steps which can help with performance issues:
OS X Yosemite: If your Mac runs slowly
If you find your Mac is running slowly, there are a number of potential causes that you can check.
An app you’re using may require more memory than your computer has easily available. To see how much memory your computer has, choose Apple menu > About This Mac, then click Memory. See the help that came with the app to see its system requirements.
To find out how to increase your computer’s memory, choose Apple menu > About This Mac, click Memory, then click Memory Upgrade Instructions in the lower-left corner. documentation that came with the app to its system requirements.
To see what processor your computer has, choose Apple menu > About This Mac, then click Overview.
To see what graphics card your computer has, choose Apple menu > About This Mac, then click Displays. The name of the graphics card in your computer is displayed in the middle of the window.
Your computer’s startup disk may not have enough free disk space. To make disk space available, move files to another disk, then delete files you no longer need on the startup disk.
Quit any apps you’re not using.
If you have problems with your disk, use Disk Utility to verify and try and fix any issues.
Use Activity Monitor to see if a particular app or activity is making a large demand on your Mac.
