Playing movies in web gallery

When playing a movie in web gallery I have to wait until the line below the movie slowly crosses to the following side. It is as though the movie is being downloaded before you can play it through. Is this normal, or am I missing out a step before clicking on the play icon?

This depends on the size of your movie file and the speed of your internet connection.
You can either cut the size of the movie file or give your viewers a description of the move to read while it downloads. The latter also gives the Google spiders something to report about your web page as they can't watch the movie!

  • Movies in Web Gallery

iPhoto or .Mac for web gallery questions? I'll try here:
Running iPhoto 7.01 and uploaded a web gallery of my niece's wedding. My camera takes QT movies as well and allows you to select movies and even sends a thumbnail with a movie icon on it. But when try and play them you get an generic 'QuickTime is unable to play this movie. Please try again.' and the Gallery entry in iphoto has one of the triangle '!' signs after it as if it ran into problems.
    So is it:
a bug in delivery and Gallery doesn't really support QT movies (and should warn you if some are selected or just ignore them)
it only supports certain types of QT movies (though I don't think they got sent)
Or some other problem? No mention of movies that are supported by iPhoto in the database in any Gallery help or notice I can find.

Why is this thread marked as 'Answered?' Is the 'solution' that, while iPhoto 'seems' to be able to upload videos it lists and plays to Web Gallery, videos don't play.
Is that the answer? Has anyone been able to have videos uploaded to a web gallery via iPhoto actually run in a Web Gallery. If so, which format was it in?
    (ANSWER/Workaround below.)
For me, My camera's MPEG1 Muxed, 640 x 480 pixels movies are copied to and list fine in iPhoto and are listed with an icon in a Web Gallery, but throws up an error message.
Movies exported to finder by iMovie 08 (.m4v, mpeg4 using H.264) is not even accepted as a valid format by iPhoto, so I can't say if it will run in the Web Gallery. Likewise, exporting a movie to the Media Browser does little, as iPhoto can't access the Media Browser. (Is that true? Am I missing something?)
Video encoded as MPEG4 Decompressor (libavcodec), 640 x 480, Millions AAC, Stereo (L R), 44.100 kHz (.mp4) is accepted as a valid format and is uploaded to the Web Gallery. It is also played in Web Gallery.
So, Non-H.264 compressed mpeg4 movie clips will play in Web Gallery.

  • Delete Movie in web gallery

I created ab album in iphoto with pictures and movie. I publish the album to the web gallery and it worked fine. I deleted the album in iphoto, the pictures were deleted in web gallery but not the movie. How do I delete that ?

You may have to mount your iDisk and go to the Web/Sites/_gallery folder and delete the folder containing the movie.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Movies to Web Gallery from email

I've looked around and there are some posts on this matter but nothing that can seem to answer my particular question.
I have a G4 PowerBook so iMovie 08 won't work with me. I understand that if I enable email uploads to my Web Gallery I may be able to email a movie to it. I have a 7mb movie but it won't go. The attachment allowance is now 20mb on the email. Is there a maximum size for Web Gallery? Or is the maximum size only an issue if the move is emailed?
Alternatively, is there another way to achieve what I want to do? I have heard that it's possible to upload it straight from iPhoto, is this true? I can't try yet as I'm in work and need to wait until I get home.
Any advice would be gratefully received.
    Thanks.

It's not really an iWeb issue.

  • Elusive Auto-Play Feature for Web Gallery

I dug around in the forums here and couldn't find a discussion where this question was asked AND actually answered. I can't seem to get the Web galleries that I export from Adobe Bridge to autoplay. I've tried messing with the parameters:
    'src', 'resources/gallery',
    'quality', 'high',
    'pluginspage', 'http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer',
    'align', 'middle',
    'play', 'true',
    'loop', 'true',
    'scale', 'showall',
    'wmode', 'transparent',
I tried 'play', 'auto' and 'autoplay', 'true', and neither of those combinations worked. Any ideas?
This is the gallery that I am working on: http://www.hopefordenver.com/flash/events-weddings/events-gallery.html
I'd appreciate any help that you can offer!

Thanks for your swift reponse Peter but I tried these steps and am still unable to get my application to update.
I can't understand how I can get the application to update locally by specifying the location of the xml file in the SSL properties and not get the application to update when I enter the http address for the xml file in the SSL properties.
I have used the same folder throughout this process and I am baffled as to why it does not work.

  • Iphone can't play movie in mobileme gallery

I logged onto to my 3G or GPRS and tried playing my uploaded movie in my mobileme gallery but it states "this movie can not be played". However, when I converted to Wifi at home, it was able to access and play the video.
Can anyone explain why this is the case? Is it some configuration necessary to make it accessible via 3G or GPRS?

Bring the movie in question into iTunes first. Select the movie and from the Advanced menu select "create iPod or iPhone version". iTunes will create the proper format movie for the iPhone. Upload that one to the Gallery and you are done. The file then works from Windows, Macs and the iPhone.

  • Can't play movie from gallery on mac

I can not play movies from my gallery on my macbook. These movies are imported from Canon A630 to iPhoto. In iPhoto I can play them well. All of them are published to my mobileme gallery using iPhoto. Then I open this gallery in Safari on my macbook to check if everything was published. And when I try to play a movie QuickTime tells me that it needs some additional software and directs me to http://www.apple.com/quicktime/resources/components.htmlos=OSX&ctype=696d6463&cs ubtype=4d4a5047
I visited this page earlier and installed divx, xvid, recode raw and ensharpen codecs. Also I have Perian and Flip4mac installed codecs. So my main question is: why can't I play movies from gallery using safari if in the same time I can view them well from iPhoto?
Playing of movies published with iMovie works well. But this does not matter to me since I want videos to be published in events with photos. If iPhoto has functionality to publish videos so it must work! Also I must mention that videos published with iPhoto can be played without problems from my PC with safari+quick time for windows. But under my Mac none of Safari, Firefox and Camino can view videos from my gallery. So I think problem is in QuickTime.

Anybody?????? Im using web premium CS5.5 it seems ludicrous that by default it lets every website play content on my computer but regards my own content as a security risk and wont let me rectify the problem!

  • Moving a web gallery

How can i move a web gallery folder from my old mac to my new one?

    Jim:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You would have to move the library package to the new mac. If the new Mac has a library with photos then you can use iPhoto Library Manager to merge the new Mac's library into the old library. That will preserve the gallery. Be sure to enter the .Mac info in the system .Mac preferences.

  • Quicktime 7.3.1 Player, Does not play movies locally on Vista.

Interesting and frustrating problem. My QT player plays movies from web browser but will not play them locally. Windows Vista Business, 32 bit OS, QT pro will play the first 5 to 9 seconds of a movie then hang the system. Then I can not shut down QT player, without Ctrl, Alt Del. Local .mov files I am trying to play are only 4 to 15 MB. Is this an issue with Vista? Or the latest QT player? Or is it the latest Direct X? Or is it the latest driver update for my video card ATI Fire GL V7200 - the latest catalyst control center SW? All drivers and SW have been recently updated to latest. I tried changing the Advanced Video settings in the QT player, "Safe Mode GDI only" vs Direct X settings? Nothing changes the fact that I just can NOT play any .mov movies locally. I'm calling Adobe tomorrow. Am I the only here with these problems?

+I was just wondering if perhaps the RAID was affecting it somehow? My system is setup to store all Files on a data partition with Raid 1 setup.+
Older versions of the Intel Matrix Storage Managers (and associated drivers) could cause similar issues in RAID setups. Seen a few of them fixed by upgrading them.
However, having taken a look at your dowwnloads page for the wx8400, it's not clear to me whether or not you've got an Intel Matrix on the PC.
... One thing that did come up was the following document:
HP xw4400, xw6400, xw8400 Workstations, and HP Proliant xw460c Blade Workstation - SYSTEM BIOS UPGRADE REQUIRED; Certain Intel Processors May Cause Unpredictable System Behavior
So it may be worth checking to see if your BIOS is up to date, first.
Here's a link through to the relevant xw8400 downloads page:
Download drivers and software: HP xw8400 Workstation (Vista 32-bit)
Was your BIOS at 2.18 or higher? If not, does an upgrade assist with the QuickTime behavior?

  • Video plays fine in iMovie but not in Web Gallery ?

    Hi
I managed to import some small video clips to iMovie 08 using Streamclip (converting to .dv files).
The movies play fine in iMovie - no problems. However when I publish to Mac Web Gallery (I only published "mobile" size), one of the videos always hangs at the same point. The clip starts playing but you can see the clip stop loading and then it stops playing at the exact same point about 3 minutes in.
The Web Gallery says the clip is 4mins 36secs long but it never plays it in full. I've removed from Gallery and republished. I've also deleted the project and started from scratch. Both have failed to cure it.
Also tried it in Firefox 3 and Safari - same result.
Why is Mac Web Gallery struggling to play all the clip?
    Thanks for any input!
    Martin

    Which version of iMovie?
If you are on version 8.0.6, this is probably due to the use of speed changes like fast motion or slow motion.
If you have speed changes in your project, you need to stick to the pre-set tick marks of 25%, 50%, 100%, 200%, 400%, 800%, etc. If you use a custom percent like 58% or 139%, you will get weird audio behavior in your final product.

  • Ipod touch, web gallery, movies panel does not show in safari

i have some movies in my web gallery published from imovie08.
ipod touch safari will not display the movies panel of my web gallery, only the pictures panel.
however, i have a movie embedded in one of my picture albums which will play. so i know that it will
    show movies.
anyone know why the movies panel does not show?

To get pass the passcode lockscreen, recovery mode and restoring should help: iPhone and iPod touch: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.
If the issue continues after updating and restoring your device, refer to this document.

  • IMoives from Web Gallery do NOT play in Safari under the Lion

Does anyone else have this problem? Using Lion and the latest iMovie when I post movies to my Web Gallery the iMovies will NOT play. They play fine in Firefox and the still photos work fine in Safari but no joy with iMovie
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks so much

I have read other discussions about this, and it is clear Apple has nothing to offer. It seems we must find the solution and give it to them.
For me, I happened to have the HD I had replaced because it was "BAD" from before the latest Snow. I had picked up a case to put it in from Fry's and it worked perfectly! I rebooted from it, opened iMove and created all the movies on an external HD. I will FTP them to a folder on my site, and them link to them via iWeb, temporarily. I'll post the outcome when I have a chance to get it done. I do plan on abandoning Lion, and returning to Snow until all these silly oversights are resolved.
I wish I was getting paid to discover solutions for Apple, but I am not enthusiastic about anything Apple anymore. I found 150 discussions about the problems with Lion, so we are not alone. Apple has bigger problems than mine, so I will retreat to what worked, test my time machine back up, and learn Dreamweaver.

  • QuickTime movies won't run on Web Gallery - asking for QT 7.2

    Hi
I have this problem. When I try to visit my Web Gallery under Fire Fox and watch the movies I posted I got the message the to play this file I need to have QT 7.2. I have the latest version of QT installed and it runs without problems under Safari. Does anyone have the same problem. Is there any setting I can change to make QT work with Fire Fox?
    Thanks
    Mark

You might do better to ask in the forums for QuickTime here:

  • Unable to play Quick Time movies in web pages

We have Quick Time 7.0.4 player installed on Mac OS X v10.4, But we are unable to open Quick time movies in web browser from external web sites.
It gives us error ‘To view this movie, you will need QuickTime 5 (or later)’
If we open Quick time movies from local disk in web browser then it works perfectly alright.
Could you please let us know the reason behind this?
Note: I have encounter this problem on safari and IE 5.2 browser.

For instance if you go to this page again in Safari,
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/qtv/mwsf06/
and then select "View Source" from the View menu, then press command-f to "find" within the page and search for ".mov"
You will find this, which shows the url of the movie itself.
    <param name="href" value="http://stream.qtv.apple.com/events/jan/mw2006/mmw_2006_650ref.mov">
If you copy just this part:
    http://stream.qtv.apple.com/events/jan/mw2006/mmw_2006_650ref.mov
And open QuickTime Player, go to the File menu, select "Open URL" the movie will play.
If you try the same technique on the page at the link provided by your client, it will allow you to bypass the html code that may be doing an outdated compatibility check and the movie may play. Or it may tell you that you are missing components (codecs, compressors etc.) in which case, post here again.

  • Flash web gallery - style.xml start with slideshow in play?

When creating a web gallery with Lightroom, using a default flash template, a style.xml sheet is created. Does anyone know the line of code in that style.xml that sets the gallery to load with the slideshow in play mode?
    thanks,
    Donnie

    Please excuse the bump...
Anyone with a LR flash gallery that starts with slideshow in play mode?
Can it even be set to do this?
The only code in the style.xml that looks like it might be realted is line 12 <playOptions playMode="pause"/>, changing that to "play" does nothing.
    Thanks,
