Please tell me where to start....
Thanks.

  • How do I convert qcp audio file (from cell phone) to mp3 file?

I moved a recorded cell phone conversation from my phone to my computer. The file is 982498.qcp and iTunes, VLC, Quicktime, or Windows Media Player will not play it. iSoundFile is an application that can convert many different audio files to many other different audio file formats. It does not work with qcp files.
How do I play this qcp file? Or, How do I convert this qcp file to mp3 or something playable?
The phone manual says nothing about it (its an LG 8600).

I've tried it 3 times. It says "Error while converting file." Thanks though, it looks like the perfect site for this function, just wish it worked.

  • What cell phone/mp3 is compat. with my iTunes files

I need help in choosing a new cell phone/MP3 that is compatabile with iTunes downloads. Has anyone done this? None of the major carries claim to support iTunes.

I transfered an mp3 file via bluetooth, however the cell phone will not play the file unless it is stored on the memory of the phone. I recieved the file, but the cell phone prohibits me from playing the music or storing it. The phone manual says that files can be stored on a micro memory card. Where can micro memory card adaptors or file exchange chords for micro memory be found? What is easier: (1) to install a cell phone compatible music player on my computer or (2) look for a way to install it to a mirco memory card. any suggestions?

p.s. I am not knowledgeable of Apple/iTunes etc, I was under the impression that if I purchased an album then I can use my purchase on a non-Apple device

    Micky,
The iTunes Store sells songs in AAC format.  Most Android phones can play AACs.  Just sync them to your phone per the instructions with the phone.
If by any chance your phone does require MP3 format, you can use iTunes to convert the files, per this guide:
iTunes: How to convert a song to a different file format - Apple Support
(This conversion does not require burning.)
For future reference, note that the iTunes Store is really optimized for people using Apple devices.  You might find it more convenient to buy music in Mp3 format from Amazon Digital Music or Google Play Music.

You actually want a vertical video??
What would you show that on?!
Rotating video or photos in iMovie 11:
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/#mov3a884fd3
In earlier versions of iMovie you can also do this using Quicktime Pro 7:
Open MOV file in QT Pro (QT 7.6.6)
    Window -> Show Movie Properties
    select "Video Track"
select "Visual Settings" from lower window
    check "Preserve Aspect Ratio"
Click on appropriate rotation icon (MOV rotates!)
Click back on the open MOV in Player Window
    FILE -> Save
You can also do this using TransformMovie, available here:

  • Please help with ability to play Mp3 Email attachments

I am new to the iPhone (as most of us are) and one of the key services I have with my previous Windows Mobile phone was that I would receive voice mails left on our corporate messaging service via email to my cell phone.
I would get an e-mail with a caller ID on it and an mp3 file which was the audio message I could play.
In my office when one of these emails comes in to my PC, I click to play the mp3 file and my itunes opens and the message plays - however, when the message comes to my iPhone, the attachment shows up, but is greyed out and NOT playable.
Since Apple prides itself on being a "MultiMedia, digital" type of company, I sincerely hope that this oversight can be resolved quickly via a firmware upgrade.
I tunes can of course play mp3 files, so I would think this should be a relatively easy issue to resolve.
How about it Apple - can this get on your list of updates???
    Thank you,

    Hello Steve.
How about it Apple - can this get on your list of updates???
This is a user to user help forum only for technical support issues that is provided and moderated by Apple and although some Apple employees participate here and certainly some Apple employees peruse the discussions from time to time, for the most part you are not directing anything to Apple here.
Best to use the Feedback link for this purpose.

  • I want to use a netbook as a cell phone for voice calling/receiving

I realize that AT&T has a smart phone that will also allow mp3 playing and ibook reading, but its draw back for me is that it is restricted to how large a SD card you install, max 64mb.
I would like to be able to use my AT&T cell number on a netbook which has 250GB of storage as I like to listen to audio books and take up a lot of storage space.
Maybe something that plugs into a USB port that will receive and send on cell phone frequencies.
A SD adaptor that would allow me to move my SIM card over to the netbook.
A program that would run in the back ground that would listen for incoming calls and would come foreground when I wanted to make a call.
The mp3 player and ibook reader are no problem as they can just be downloaded.
Anyone know of anything like this or simular to?
    Tks

No phone plans for iPads, they do data only.
You can use VoIP apps such as Skype or google voice.

  • Is there any way to contact verizon with a detailed cell phone technical support question?

Is there any way to contact Verizon with a detailed cell phone technical support question?  I prefer e-mail so as to provide details (like I am trying to provide here).  I have tried in-store personnel (no help at all) and the web chat - they just want to see me more data instead of helping me with my basic problem!
I CAN NOT GET ANYONE FROM VERIZON TO GIVE ME ANY HELP NOR CAN I FIND A WAY TO FILE A COMPLAINT.  AT THIS POINT I JUST WANT TO DROP MY VERIZON ACCOUNT BUT I'M SURE THAT IT WILL COST ME A SMALL FORTUNE TO GET OUT OF IT.
    Here is my issue:
Chat transcript removed as required by the Verizon Wireless Terms of Service
BELOW IS A SCREEN COPY FROM REDDIT ABOUT SOMEONE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM WITH A VERIZON CELL PHONE
So last night my RAZR MAXX HD did something totally bewildering by spontaneously downloading 2.6 GB of data over the course of ~ 3 hours. Fortunately I was able to catch this problem before it ended up being really expensive, but I still exceeded my 2 GB data plan by 600MB.
    The Culprits:
Reddit News Free: 160 MB foreground / 0.96 GB background
Android OS: 0 MB foreground / 1.18 GB background
Several unnamed applications: ~ 350 MB
    Screenshots:
    The massive data spike
    Android OS data usage
    Reddit News Free data usage
    Weird unnamed processes
    Detailed timeline:
5:12 PM: Incident begins according to VZW data usage website (2.60410 GB used). This is around the last time that I used my phone at the laundromat before getting dinner and watching Game of Thrones.
8:04 PM: 50% of data allowance used (txt msg)
8:31 PM: 75% of data allowance used (txt msg)
8:58 PM: 90% of data allowance used (txt msg)
9:13 PM: 100% of data allowance used (txt msg)
10:05 PM: Got the text messages and immediately put the phone into airplane mode
    10:30 PM: Took screenshots
10:45 PM: Enabled wifi, installed Kaspersky premium. Scan returned no threats.
11:00 PM: Left phone in airplane mode, went to sleep.
    The questions:
What was the root cause of this issue? Did Reddit News freak out as a result of an esoteric bug or was my phone hacked?
If this was a simple Reddit News bug, then why was the Android OS also trying to use such a massive amount of background data?
What the hell are these unnamed numeric applications? I've inspected my process history and this is the first time they have ever attempted to use data.
I'm pretty sure that I can explain this situation to Verizon and get out of having to pay additional data usage fees, but I would like to know more about the problem before I get in touch with them.

All I can think is your phone may have background downloaded an OTA update, and you'd then be prompted with something like, "As update to your Android system has been downloaded, would you like to install it now?"
I do find it very odd that the update would be 2.6GB. As a rough base, the CyanogenMod 10.1 firmware for your device is well under 200MB, so unless Verizon has a ****-ton of bloatware in the update, or it had to attempt to download multiple times for some reason, it may be a stretch.
But doing a little homework, it looks like the Verizon Razr Maxx was updated to 4.1 in late March. Maybe they're still rolling it out in waves? Have you gotten the update yet?
Edit: Aaaand I just noticed you appear to be running an AOSP-based ROM, which totally rules out a carrier update being sent out.
Edit2: If you want to live dangerously, you could try running:
    #kill -9 12289
That 12289 is the PID listed in your screenshot. But don't run that without fulling understanding the kill command.
The ps command could also be of use, but probably not.

I can confirm that the phone is currently at 4.1.2 and that I wasn't prompted for an OTA update. The fact that both the Android OS and Reddit News processes were simultaneously using an extremely large amount of data is unlikely to be a coincidence...

That is very curious that the spikes happened at the same time.I'm curious. It may have put at least some of that 2.6GB somewhere. You could use a data visualizer tool to see if you can find it, which may lead to more clues.

    The largest directories are:
DCIM: Normal looking photos (90,825 KB)
Android: Primarily map cache data (64,846 KB)
If it was downloading content then it did not significantly save content to storage. It's not like I have anything particularly sensitive on the phone, but the idea that it was uploading a snapshot of my data definitely makes me uncomfortable.

Yup, Digital Camera IMages and videos.Somewhere in /sdcard/Android would be my guess as to where a mysterious file would be downloaded, but if it's only 64MB, and mostly map data, I'd safely rule it out.I'm sorry, but I'm stumped here.Edit: I should mention I don't think this is malware, because unless a malicious app gained superuser access, any data it used would show under it's own apk in the data usage list, not Android OS.

Although I'm not really up to speed with the Android platform, I come from a UNIX background so I feel comfortable running commands. How do I pull up a bash terminal? Do I need to root the phone first?

There's a number of terminal emulators in the Play Store that work well. You don't need a rooted phone to get to the shell as your user, but any privileged command won't execute unless you can grant it permission from the Superuser app that is installed when you root the device. So you could probably do a ps -e, but not a kill -9.

Got it. I downloaded a terminal emulator but unfortunately those processes no longer exist.Does Android keep a generic log of system level events like /var/log/syslog?

I don't think so, and I know you'd need superuser permission to read most of the files in /var/log anyway. I'm not super familiar with how Android does its logging, but I do know that the two files of interest are the logcat and dmesg.

Want to mention here that using your settings to set your data cap (set it on your billing day), then you won't go over again. Those text messages are really unhelpful, as they send out well after the data has been used. Chances are good you hit close to the 2GB mark before you received the bulk of the messages.

That's definitely not the case here; both my PC and and Android phone are free from pirated apps.

You used the data.  Verizon can not see what it was sued for.  However your phone can see whats apps used the data.  go to settings-data usage- there will be a place that says data usage cycle.  line the dates up with your cycle.  then there will be a bar graph below that   extend bother white bars one all the way to the left and one all the way to the right.  after those are extended below that will be a list of apps,  there should be one that used over 2 gb and that will show you what app used that data in her purse

  • How to get rid of "._" files when trans to cell phone?

I use a microSD to play mp3s on my LG chocolate (I know... i'll get an iPhone one day!).
The only problem is, if I drag-and-drop 30 songs to the card, when I use it on the phone, I now have 60 items, with 30 of them being duplicate titles with "._"
in front of the title and no way to delete them. These files do not play, of course. I am thinking they are not really "there."
I tried loading TinkerTool and showing invisible files on the card, but there was only 1, a DS store(?)file that I deleted. Didn't help. Is there any way to take care of those pesky pseudo-duplicates?

    Hi Charles,
Do you have an external card reader that accepts microSD media? It might be possible to delete the files this way. They are dirt cheap nowadays - SanDisk makes a 12-in-1 card reader for about $30.
Just curious - the Chocolate doesn't offer a "Delete" function in its media reader? (I have Verizon myself as well, but that phone never interested me...)
The "._" files are the resource forks that OS X uses to store additional data, as in a custom icon, for example.
It's part of how OS X manages files - files have data forks (the actual file) and resource forks (additional data). Assuming that the file has an applicable Windows application to read the file, PCs (in your case, the Chocolate) read the data fork just fine.
(for example, a Word .doc file created on a Mac will typically open fine on a PC)
However, Windows currently has no way to translate a resource fork, and thus will report it as a dummy "._filename" with no application to open it.

  • Support Line - Call Forward All through Hunt Pilot to cell phone

I know I may be beating a dead horse, but I've found so much help in these forums that I figured I'd give it a shot.
We have a Cisco Unified Communications Manager Business Edition and we are running into a configuration issue. What we would like to do is to create an emergency support line for our IT staff. The way we would like this to function is that a caller dials a number, CM accepts the call and dials out to our IT staff's cell phone numbers in a round-robin fashion. To avoid the caller getting dumped into the IT staff's voice mail on their cells, we would like the staff member to have to dial a number to accept the call. If there is no answer, the call rolls to the next cell number. If no one is available, the caller should be directed to Unity Connection to leave a message. Unity then will send out text and email messages to the support staff.
I know that we can use Unity to perform an assisted transfer, which will require the user to press "1" to accept the call, and we are able to get Unity to send out the notifications (text and email) when a voice message is left. The issue is with Call Manager making the outbound calls to the cell phones.
What we have attempted is to setup DNs that call forward all to the users cell numbers. These DNs have been added to a Line Group, which has a Hunt Pilot attached to it. Any time this pilot is called, we get a reorder. Using the DNA, we see that "no device is associated with the DN", which is under the DN for the first users cell forward. If we add that DN as a second line to that users IP Phone (7940), then the call into the Hunt Pilot rings that line on the IP phone, not the CFA to the cell phone.
After weeks of digging around, it seems as though CFA in a Hunt is just not possible. My boss wants official word from Cisco about this, but TAC doesn't seem to want to help due to service contract issues (which blows my mind, as we have opened several cases in the past two months for configuration related issues). Our Business Edition came with Contact Center Xpress, although we do not have the resources available to install it. If CCX will carry out this task, that might be enough to push management into getting another server to support this, but without being able to play around with it, I don't know.
If anyone has any suggestions on how to make this work, I would GREATLY appreciate the help!
    Thanks in advance,
    -Geoff

    Hi Geoff,
    Always interesting isn't it :)
    Call Forward settings on individual Hunt member phones are ignored when presented a call via the Hunt feature. Here is a clip;
The concept of hunting differs from that of call forwarding. Hunting allows Cisco CallManager to extend a call to one or more lists of numbers, where each such list can specify a hunting order that is chosen from a fixed set of algorithms. When a call extends to a hunt party from these lists and the party fails to answer or is busy, hunting resumes with the next hunt party. (The next hunt party varies depending on the current hunt algorithm.) Hunting thus ignores the Call Forward No Answer (CFNA) or Call Forward Busy (CFB) settings for the attempted party. This also applies to CFWD ALL settings.
    From this doc;
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps556/products_administration_guide_chapter09186a00803edabe.html#wp107892
    So, any Forwarding settings have to be done on the Hunt Pilot itself. These Destination settings (on the Hunt Pilot) need to be configured to go to the Unity Voicemail Pilot # or perhaps this is where you Forward out to the Cell #;
    Hunt Forward Settings
Forward Hunt No Answer - When the call that is distributed through the hunt list is not answered in a specific time, this field specifies how to forward the call.
Destination This setting indicates the directory number to which calls are forwarded. (This can be the Directory Number of the Unity VM Pilot)
Forward Hunt Busy - When the call that is distributed through the hunt list is busy in a specific time, this field specifies how to forward the call.
Destination This setting indicates the directory number to which calls are forwarded. (This can be the Directory Number of the Unity VM Pilot)
Maximum Hunt Timer - Enter a value (in seconds) that specifies the maximum time for hunting.(Used in conjunction with Forward Hunt Busy)
    Maybe you could leverage these Unity Connection configs to achieve your desired results. These will ensure that the Message is not left unattended;
    Cascading Message Notification
Cascading message notification allows you to send notifications to a widening circle of recipients. Cisco Unity Connection continues to send notifications according to the devices you selected until the message has been saved or deleted by a recipient.
For example, to create a cascade of message notifications for your Technical Support department,
    Chaining Message Notification
Message notification can be set to "chain" to a series of notification devices if an attempt to send notification to the first selected device fails. The definition of failure to a notification device is based on the options you select for retrying a device that is not answered or is busy.

  • Add Cell Phone Network Extender to Apple Network

I am currently running a Time Capsule which gets its internet feed from a cable modem (Cablevision). I am trying to add a mobile phone network extender (Verizon micro cell) which requires an internet connection (via Ethernet cable) to create a cell phone call, since I have no towers in my area.
The Verizon micro cell requires a VPN output from the router; the TC does not support VPN. So the Verizon micro cell does not get an internet connection if I connect it to the TC via one of its ethernet ports. It does connect to the internet if I connect it directly to the cable modem.
APPLE: WHY DOESN'T THE TIME CAPSULE SUPPORT VPN?!? Honestly, enough is enough, I like the plug and play part of Apple equipment, but maybe, just maybe some people need semi-pro utility out of your equipment. End of Rant.
I could buy another cable modem from Cablevision and simply plug the Verison micro cell into that, but it costs $45 per month, so that's out of the question.
I would like to understand whether the solution I've been given from a very helpful Cablevision tech guy will work and how to execute it with minimum disruption to my network (currently the TC feeds an Airport Express elsewhere in the house as a network extender, so I really do mean minimal disruption, please). In essence, it involves cascading the Linksys to the TC.
I am told to connect the cable modem to a router (I have two unused Linksys routers, one wireless and one without WiFi; my preference is to use the non WiFi router so I don't have two wireless signals), and then connect via the Linksys ethernet ports to the Verizon micro cell and the other to the TC. Apparently this is possible if the TC gets a WAN connection, as opposed to a LAN connection, from the Linksys. The micro cell works fine already, so I guess it just doesn't care.
According to Apple, the input that I'm already using, from the cable modem to the TC, is a 1 GB ethernet WAN port for connecting a cable modem. When I cascade the Linksys to the TC, the TC doesn't see an internet connection, though, and it makes sense that there are conflicting IP addresses causing the problem. The port out of the Linksys works fine as if I switch the wiring, the micro cell gets an internet connection no matter what.
Question 1: How do I configure the Linksys so that its output is something the TC can handle? Will the configuration screw up the signal that's going to the micro cell which is already OK?
Question 2: Or what do I do in AirPort Utility to set up the TC to see the signal correctly (ie as a WAN signal) from the Linksys?
Question 3: Is there anything else I need to know?
Despite the "Go Dog, Go" style of writing above, I know my way around configuring Linksys routers, so your reply can be quite technical. Thanks in advance.

Well, not much telling unless you ask the carrier that you are trying to use. If it will not work with the SIM you are trying to use, there could be any number of reasons with a phone that has not been purchased through an authorized reseller. I'm afraid no one would really be able to answer your question without a lot more information.

  • WHAT IS YOUR IDEAL CELL PHONE AND TABLET/ULTRABOOK/LAPTOP COMBO?

I’d like to see what everyone here thinks is the best CELL PHONE and TABLET/ULTRABOOK/LAPTOP combination to own this year now that the CES show is coming to a close.  So post up what you think is the ideal combination from what has been announced.  Maybe, just maybe, Best Buy will listen and insure they carry the products we want.
    My vote goes to:
PHONE = Samsung Galaxy Note LTE (unlocked - carrier independent)
TABLET/ULTRABOOK/LAPTOP = Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 13 with Windows 8 and its’ IPS touch screen
(Posted this in the Cell Phone AND Tablet forums)

    Blackberry 9810
efficient keyboard for quick access to functions.  How many other phones have 26 quick keys to dial a number?
convenient one handed operation on the bus because it has a trackpad
great battery life with the slower processor
user replaceable battery.  You can change a battery for the cost of a good dinner.  Other phones have sealed batteries that force you to get a hair dry to rip the battery out.  Basically they force you to get a new phone....SCAM
durability..... seen too many cracked Apple screens.  Takes a lot of punishment without needing a THICK "bumper"
brightness.... notice how dim iPhone screens are on bus compared to other phones?
data compression.... doesn't  rack up my data plan.  Doesn't have Siri.  Blackberry uses 1/3 or 1/6 the data compared to other phones.  Very important, especially when travelling
BBM saves me money when texting with other international BBM users.
the 9810 sliding mechanism means the phone is compact when not used, but grows in size when needed
the 9810 keyboard does not shrink my viewing area when I'm typing
    Blackberry Playbook
plays flash websites.... i got tired of Apple forcing websites to create an App to work (scam)
fits in my purse and pocket
dual speakers without a dock..... it's amazing the audio quality
    stereo microphones
smart bezel where the frame is an added touchpad functionality
With the upcoming OS update next month, Blackberries can take remote control of the Playbook tablet.... HOT as the phone keyboard can be used as Playbook tablet keyboard and phone screen become a mouse!

efficient keyboard for quick access to functions.

  • Collab Subscription Emails: How to detect HTML enabled cell phone?

We have found tremendous adoption success with using the "Subscribe Others" feature in collab. Naturally this concept rubs many folks the wrong way because often the end users don't know why they are getting these emails or what they are expected to do with them.
To combat this problem I have been working on our email templates to include some brief FAQs at the bottom of the email that answer some of the basics: Why am I getting this email? How do I unsubscribe? etc
There is still one issue that I am trying to resolve: Within the HTML template, is it possible to identify HTML enabled email readers?
For example, I use a Blackberry 7250 which displays email in plaintext - when I get Collab emails they are LOADED with links to images and to the collab projects, and its frustrating to have to scroll through everything to find the meaningful stuff.
My goal is to hide all "ugly link content" to those users that don't have HTML enabled phones - but I DO want to show it to those folks with the latest and greatest phones that can support it - such as the Blackberry Storm.
Isolating browsers seems like it could be the way to go, but rather than coding on a per browser basis I was hoping to just be able to do some type of "if HTML enabled" check.
    Any suggestions?
Also, if anyone is curious about how to adjust these templates feel free to ask here or email me at [email protected] and I can forward my basic manipulations.

It turns out that there is a content type called "multipart/alternative" which can be used in cases like this.
The content type allows you to essentially split up the content into a section for HTML and another for plain text.
In looking at the notification templates, there are 2 for each "event". One for HTML and the other for plain text but I assume this is dependent upon the user Account Setting HTML/Plain Text and not fed into a higher level template which is set for multipart/alternative, although I have a help desk ticket setup for clarification on this issue.
I played around with these content types and each time I crashed my notification service with a java.lang.NullPointerException.
I'm closer to giving up on this after reading the following paragraph:
"If email programs can recognize multipart/alternative content, they can probably also recognize HTML content.
If they can't read HTML, they probably can't read multipart content either, which means you're going to run into the same problems with sending HTML to folks with email programs who can't understand it.
For recipients who can read the HTML, you're sending along an extra large message with the text included for no reason." http://www.wilsonweb.com/wmt5/html-email-multi.htm

    1) you know users can select html or plain text notifications right? Its under my account.Right, but we want the email to determine it dynamically since our company uses Outlook we'd want them to get HTML when they are a desk, and plain text when they are on their cell phones.

    2) Would an easy solution be to just put the content of the email at the top and the links at the bottom?Definitely! I've already removed all of the images and some of the redundant links, and am trying to design a layout to add the remaining links either in a column right aligned or at the bottom.

    3) I think that detecting html or plain text reader may be hard / impossible.Yar, I think I'm 9/10 of the way to giving up on this:)
