Not sure if the MP3 plugin for JMF / JavaSound works for MAC, but you could try it...
[http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/download-137625.html]
With that installed, you should be able to just play an MP3 file as you would any other file...

  • Airport Express to play music through 20th Anniversary Mac?

    I'd like to be able to play music through the Bose sound system in my G3-upgraded 20th Anniversary Mac.  I've used a very early version of iTunes but it annoyingly pauses fairly frequently while playing for some reason.  Since I have an early Airport Express and have an Ethernet adaptor in the TAM I wondered if it's possible to connect the TAM via cable to the Airport Express and stream music from an iMac connected wirelessly to the Airport.  It seems a shame not to utilize the Bose speaker system for music.  Thanks for any ideas and suggestions.

    As far as I know this isn't possible. I might try some stuff using my TAM (although results may very, mine isn't a production model) to see about figuring something out. If the computers sit close enough together you might be able to run a 3.5mm(1/8") headphone cable between the iMac's audio out and the TAM's line in, that or make use of the FM tuner and listen to some awesome FM stations.
    Now that I think of that you can invest in something like the link I'll add at the bottom of this, connect it to the speaker port of the iMac then use the tuner on the TAM to tune into the frequency of it. This would also allow the connecting of something such as an iPod.

  • Playing MP3s in java

    I am making a simple media player in java, using Borlands latest JBuilder. I have downloaded JMF, but have been unable to get it to work in any way whatsoever, I have tried setting the classpath and everything, but i beleive i am going about it the wrong way complety (change the enviroment var., right? just add what the documentation says to the end of what is already there, correct?) but beyond that, i cant get anything besides a .wav to play. I am wondering if anyone knows of a way to convert an mp3 on the fly during runtime, and etc. I have been on javazoom, but the download they give you is just an abstract class, doenst give you definitions on what each method does. thanks for any help

    If you can get wav files to play, it's working, I would think...
    I think I read somewhere that MP3 support was dropped from JMF due to some licensing issue with whoever made the MP3 codec they were using.

  • Still having problems playing MP3s on Mac OS 10.5

    Hi everyone,
    I was never able to solve this issue, and moved on to other things, but I'm stumbling over it again. I believe that I have everything set up properly; I put the jmf and mp3 plugin jars in my /Library/Java/Extensions folder, but I am getting this message when I try running java com.sun.media.codec.audio.mp3.JavaDecoder:
    java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException
    Registered succesfully
    So does that mean it's properly registered, or is that InvocationTargetException something tats causing a problem. The JMF works fine for everything but mp3s; when I try playing an MP3 file, I get this error:
    Unable to handle format: mpeglayer3, 44100.0 Hz, 16-bit, Stereo, LittleEndian, Signed, 16000.0 frame rate, FrameSize=32768 bits
    Failed to realize: com.sun.media.PlaybackEngine@39b3a2
    Error: Unable to realize com.sun.media.PlaybackEngine@39b3a2
    All of the files I've tested worked fine with the JMStudio application that came with the JMF, but when I compiled JMStudio on my system, I got the same results that I describe above.
    I've installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled the JMF and the mp3 plugin a couple times now, and then have run the jmfinit binary, and then the jmfregistry binary, and then added and committed the com.sun.media.codec.audio.mp3.JavaDecoder to the Plugins->Codec menu. Again, with the results that I have described above.
    Can anyone help?

    I have had some success adding the [JMF codec|http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/desktop/media/jmf/mp3/download.html] to the run-time classpath of the application (or applet).
    I did not 'install' any version of the JMF to this Ubuntu system, but separately downloaded the (MP3 codec) Jar and just added it to the classpath (at run-time).
    Note there are a number of MP3s that the JMF codec fails to get an input stream from. I recommend anybody attempting this, try it first with an MP3 that has been seen to work using the JMF codec. As such you might..
    a) Visit this applet(1), which tries to load/play an MP3. And if that works OK on your Mac., then go to..
    b) Visit the [sound section of my media page|http://pscode.org/media/#sound] and download the 'Dead End' MP3 for your own local testing.
    (1) The applet Jars are digitally signed. You can safely refuse the digitally signed code and the applet should still work. The applet is still experimental - if you have any problems with it, I would appreciate hearing them. Part a) is effectively an 'acid test' on whether my attempts to play MP3s in applets for Mac users (and other visitors) is successful. If it fails, it might indicate a difference in the way Macs implement the SPI.

  • Why won't an MP3 file on my Mac play on the boombox?

    Hello, I tried to pair the Sony Bluetooth Boombox Model #ZSBTG900 with a new Macbook Pro (for the first time) with the boombox close to the computer & Bluetooth turned on. The proper words appear on the boom box display and the necessary blue light is on. Running OS 10.9.4, in Bluetooth Preferences the boombox model # appears as a Bluetooth device and is connected. When I "Send File to Device..." using Bluetooth File Exchange v.4.2.6 (4.2.6f1), the MP3 file on my Mac doesn't play on the boombox. Sony told me that the bluetooth version of the boombox is 3.0 and it will connect only to a device having the same bluetooth profile.
    The Sony specs in the Operating Instructions say: The audio formats supported by this unit are as follows: MP3: file extension “.mp3”; WMA: file extension “.wma”. Compatibility requirements for the devices are as follows. Before using with this unit, check that your device meets the requirements. Devices must conform to BLUETOOTH Standard version 3.0.Devices must support A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) and AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile). NFC capability (required only when using the NFC pairing function of the unit).
    Can anyone kindly suggest how to troubleshoot this issue?
    Also, could I ever play more than one music file (on the computer) at a time through the boombox? Thank you so much for any ideas.

    Hi photosr4me! If it did not work after pairing, you need to contact Apple Support here for assistance on how to setup an audio system as speakers for your Macbook Pro.

  • Updated my mac to mountain lion 10.8.3 and now my app store, mail or facetime won't open. Also, I am not longer able to play videos through firefox. I tried downloading the combo for mountain lion and it refuses to install? Can anyone help me?

    updated my mac to mountain lion 10.7.8.3 and now my app store, mail or facetime won't open. Also, I am not longer able to play videos through firefox. I tried downloading the combo for mountain lion and it refuses to install saying that I need to see developer. Whenever I try to open my appstore, mail or facetime it says that the programmes need to be installed and might not be compatible with this version of mac operating system. Can anyone help me?

    It's not a bad install of Mountain Lion. I've had the same thing happen to me, but it affected not only Mail, but a variety of other programs including iPhoto and MS Office, where I had to delete preferences, caches, and reinstall the OS as well as the program itself. I'm still having issues with Mail, so I've gone to another program.
    Everything was fine upon the initial install. I restarted my iMac about two weeks after the install, and that's when the issues began to happen. I've reinstalled Mountain Lion twice, but the same issues arise.
    As I mentioned above, you'll need to figure out which preferences are causing the issue, then reinstall the program, as a fresh reinstallation will do you no good unless you wipe the drive completely.
    Here's a thread that helped me with iPhoto:

  • How to play music through my external hard drive through iTunes on my mac?

    I recently purchased a external hard drive for my mac for my movies and music, as my disc was almost full.
    I have spent HOURS searching how to play music through my itunes without transferring them onto the mac.
    BUT everytime I click media destination folder in prefrences and advance, the whole music library in my external hard drive folder is  greyed out, and when i click it nothing happens.
    PLEASE someone help...

    First, a brand new drive is likely formatted for use with Windows.  You need to reformat it for use with Mac.
    Pondini: Formatting,  Partitioning, Verifying,  and  Repairing  Disks... - http://web.me.com/pondini/AppleTips/DU.html
    Second, you are better off moving the whole iTunes library to the external drive, not just the media.
    iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
    Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the new location of the library.
    Do not confuse moving your whole folder and library with moving just media files as in

  • How can I play a dvd on my Mac and display it through Apple TV

    I want to use my DVD drive on my mac to play back movies through my apple tv2. I notice that on my iPad, iPhone, iTunes on my computer all have the AirPlay option to display the video on my TV through Apple TV. I do not want to burn my DVD onto my Mac and play through iTunes becasue its a hassle.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
    One thing you can do is to play the DVD in your Mac using DVD Player instead of iTunes, and then, turn on AirPlay Mirroring to stream your computer's display to your Apple TV > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404
    If your Mac isn't compatible with AirPlay Mirroring, use a third-party app like AirParrot > http://www.airparrot.com This is the only option, because the Apple TV isn't compatible with discs
    Logical but it won't work - DVD player output will be a grey checkerboard pattern.
    Apple apps prevent Airplay of DVD content at low level presumably for some copy protection reason.
    VLC player is believed to work.

  • Can't play mp3 file through RTP

    I created an server/client application to play remote file through RTP using JMF. However, it works with *.wav and video track of mpg file only, can't work when playing *.mp3 and audio track of mpg file. Do anyone know the reason?

    No any errors.
    I just follow the code sample "AVTransmit2" & "AVReceive2" and change the format.
    I change the format of mpg file audio stream to G723, it works now! So I think I used wrong format, but I found there is only two supported RTP format for mp3 file and it doesn't work for both of them.

    you need to create dll using vc++ or Borland compiler
    i will try to help you out.
    //mac.java
    class mac
        public native void getMac();
        private native String getLine(String prompt);
        static {
         System.loadLibrary("myMac");//This is myMac.DLL
         /*if generated by borland
         System.loadLibrary("mymac");//This is mymac.dll
         public static void main(String[] args)
        mac mc=new mac();
        String input = mc.getLine("Enter Some Thing ");
        System.out.println("You Entered " + input);
        System.out.println(mc.getMac());
    }prompt> javac mac.java
    prompt> javah -jni mac
    Borland compiler
    /*mymac.c*/
    #include <jni.h>
    #include "mac.h"
    #include <stdio.h>
    JNIEXPORT void JNICALL
    Java_mac_getMac(JNIEnv *env, jobject obj)
        printf("I am in  getmac dir in mymac.dll (Borland) \n");
        return;
    JNIEXPORT jstring JNICALL
    Java_mac_getLine(JNIEnv *env, jobject obj, jstring enter)
        char buf[128];
        const char *str = (*env)->GetStringUTFChars(env, enter, 0);
        printf("%s", str);
        (*env)->ReleaseStringUTFChars(env, enter, str);
        scanf("%s", buf);
        return (*env)->NewStringUTF(env, buf);
    }To generate DLL
    create bcc32.cfg file in %BORLAND_INSTALL%/BCC5/bin Folder
    In the bcc32.cfg file add following code
    -I"%BORLAND_INSTALL%\BCC55\include;%JAVA_HOME%\include;%JAVA_HOME%\include\win32"
    -L"%BORLAND_INSTALL%\BCC55\lib;%BORLAND_INSTALL%\BCC55\Lib\PSDK;"
    i.e the path for borland compiler and java.
    now goto prompt and say
    prompt>bcc32 -tWM -tWD mymac.c
    This will create mymac.lib File
    Now say
    prompt>implib -c mymac.lib mymac.dll
    That's it!!
    there you are with dll
    Now you can run the mac.class file by using java
    VC++
    Click File->New->Win32Dynamic-Link Library
    Give name and Select
    A simple DLL project
    You will have
    myMac.CPP file
    // myMac.cpp : Defines the entry point for the DLL application.
    #include "stdafx.h"
    #include "mac.h"
    #include "jni.h" //can copy or give full path
    #include <math.h>
    BOOL APIENTRY DllMain( HANDLE hModule,
                           DWORD  ul_reason_for_call,
                           LPVOID lpReserved
        return TRUE;
    JNIEXPORT void JNICALL
    Java_mac_getMac(JNIEnv *env, jobject obj)
        printf("You are in getMac (VC++) DLL\n");
    JNIEXPORT jstring JNICALL
    Java_mac_getLine(JNIEnv *env, jobject obj, jstring enter)
        char buf[128];
        const char *str = env->GetStringUTFChars(enter, 0);
        printf("\n%s", str);
        env->ReleaseStringUTFChars(enter, str);
        scanf("%s", buf);
        return env->NewStringUTF(buf);
    }Hope this is useful

  • Just updated itunes on a new mac - doesn't want to play mp3s?

    Hi everyone, I just picked up a newish g4 tower and am having trouble with itunes.
    the os is 10.4.11 and I did the itunes update.
    I tried to download a couple songs but mp3's won't register in the library window. I downloaded 2 m4a files and they both play.
    does itunes no longer play mp3's?
    Or are all the files I download trash? I'm using limewire and have never had this problem with the old itunes. should I switch to a different fileshare service?
    I'm afraid to try to transfer my mp3 library from my old g4!
    much thanks to anyone with advice! -CM
