  • Problem playing mp4 with StageVideo using Air 3.8 and 3.9

I have spent days pulling my hair out trying to get a mp4 video to play on my iPad or iPhone using StageVideo. I have tried numerous examples on the web that all claim to work and none of them would work on my devices. Note I was testing with Air 3.9
This morning I tried a sample someone had kindly uploaded to the web that had the Air settings set to Air 3.7 and wow and behold it works.
Changing the version of Air to 3.8 or 3.9 stops it working. This is the case when testing in the Flash CS6 IDE and on the iPad.
So is there a bug in Air 3.8 and 3.9 or has there been a change in how StageVideo is implenented?
If anyone has managed to play mp4 using StageVideo and Air 3.8 or 3.9 please let me know and if you are able to paste the code even better.
Here is a link to the example I am using

Thank you for replying to my post. I am pleased I am not going mad and that it is not just me having these issues.
When I displayed some debugging info on screen with regards the NetStatus events. I had the following scenario:
    NetStream.Play.Start
    NetStream.Buffer.Full
    NetStream.Play.Failed
    NetStream.Play.Stop
I have not tested with Air 4.0 but sounds like this is also not working from reading the bug report. Seems a pretty major bug which is why I assumed I must be doing something wrong.
Let me know if Air 3.7 works for you.

Btw, the other 2 n73 phones that you used to play the video must have a new firmware, yours is too old!!
You mean the latest FW lets N73 to play DIVX video files without installing any 3rd party software like smartmovie?

  • How do i play .mp4 files via Dreamweaver CS3??

    Hi,
Using Flash CS3 the RTMP path to the .mp4 file is:
rtmp://localhost/vod/mp4:sample.mp4 and it works fine to play
    .mp4's, mov's etc.....
In Dreamweaver CS3 it wont accept any combination of paths.
Unlike Flash CS3 which only requires the single String,
Dreamweaver has two boxes that need to be filled in: The Server URI
field and also the Stream Name field.
Like FMS 2, where you don't name the streams folder in the
url, Dreamweaver CS3 is looking for it ie the "media folder" which
    has replaced the "stream" folder.
Where in Flash CS3 you have to use the convention
mp4:sample.mp4, Dreammeaver will not accept anything.
Any help here would be appreciated

I assume from the silence that Dreamweaver CS3 has not been
updated to handle Flash 9 player and streaming Video from FMS 3.0
    then.

  • How do I play MP4 on vbulletin board?

I have a website but I have no idead how to play mp4 using flash player.
Can someone help me out on this?
    http://www.twbbs.us/

Well, you can't play MP4s on a player that only handles MP3s, so you'll have to get your tracks into MP3 format. First, to go the iTunes Importing preference and set it to MP3 rather than AAC (which is the default). Then all CDs you import will be MP3. If you don't have that many CDs that you've already imported, I'd suggest that you delete any that came in as AAC and reimport; you'll get better quality that way. But if you have a lot, you can select the AAC tracks and use the Convert command to create duplicates as MP3. If you right-click on any header and select the Kind column, you'll be able to easily see which ones are AAC and convert them, and then if you wish delete the AAC copies afterwards.
Note that this will not apply to any tracks you buy, or have bought, from the iTunes Store. Those are only available as copy-protected AAC and cannot be converted to another format other than burning to audio CD.

  • Playing mp4 files on iPad

Hi All, this a desperate cry for help before I finally junk my new iPad: I am currently enrolled in an online program running on the Adobe Connect platform. The multimedia files (mp4, pdf etc) can not play on the iPad despite several attempts. Any explanation to this and suggestion on what to do?

You need an app to play those files....I am pretty sure. I play mp4 videos just fine on the app Goodplayer...the older version! The currently available Goodplayer app may not play mp4 files, since they had a dispute (exhorbitant fees) with Dolby, who banned their software use on Goodplayer and several other apps. I understand that there is an app available at the app store that has Dolby software, in that they collaborate with Dolby in some way. Be sure to check capabilities and limitations before you buy any such app. I don't know about pdf files.

  • Nokia n85 not playing MP4 files

    Hi,
I never used the video podcasts, well I just tried to use some nokia video podcasts and they were in MP4 format. To my surprise my phone says it can not play the format and so it just played it as the audio file. I was reading at GSMArena.com and looks like N85 does support MP4 files.
Can any one help me on this? How can I play MP4 files on my phone?
    Thanks,
    Harpreet
    N85
    Software ver: 30.019
    RM-334

Well, podcasts are mainly encoded in AVC@640x360 or 480x320. N85 plays AVC only at 320x240 resolution or lower. It has nothing to do with the container, in this case .mp4.

  • [SOLVED] Clementine Refuses to Play MP4 (Missing Plugin)

I am having the same issue as described here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=120851
Clementine is refusing to play mp4 files, giving the error: "Your GStreamer installation is missing a plug-in."
As an additional note, the mp4 files play perfectly in VLC.
What I have tried so far:
    1. Installed gstreamer0.10-plugins group
    2. Reinstalled faac and faad2
    3. Reinstalled libmp4v2 and lame
    4. Deleted directory ~/.local/share/gstreamer-1.0
However, even after these steps I am having the same issue.
Out of the multimedia/music players I've tried clementine most closely fits my needs, so I would like to stick with it.
Does anyone have any idea what's going on and how to fix it? Please let me know if I should provide any additional information. Thanks.

Thanks a lot for your reply. I do have gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg installed; I believe it's included in the gstreamer0.10-plugins group and just double-checked and it's there. I also just tried changing the extension to .m4a as you suggested but no luck; same error message.
And I do have those above codecs:
"gst-inspect-0.10 | grep qtdemux" yields: "isomp4:  qtdemux: QuickTime demuxer"
"gst-inspect-0.10 | grep aacparse" yields: "ffmpeg:  ffmux_adts: FFmpeg ADTS AAC muxer (not recommended, use aacparse instead) \n audioparsers:  aacparse: AAC audio stream parser"
"gst-inspect-0.10 | grep faad" yields: faad:  faad: AAC audio decoder"
Here's the full output of gst-inspet-0.10 in case that's helpful, although it's a lot: http://pastebin.com/1Xet30CK
I checked VLC as you said, and for the mp4's,
audio codec: "MPEG AAC Audio (mp4a)"
            video codec: "H264-MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) (avc1)".
decoded format (video): "Planar 4:2:0 YUV".
The page gives some more information, but I don't think anything so relevant (channels, sample rate, resolution, etc).
Do you have any other ideas, and is there any additional information I should provide?

  • QuickTime X not playing .mp4s

Does not work to play MP4 on websites

It appears in fact that the file TIMELINE plays, but does not deliver video or audio.
    Works
version 10,0,22,87 installed -- This will play MP4 as does Flash player 9.
having Air installed appears to worsen situation
Yet again ADOBE releases a product that is not backward compatible.
Post solutions to help address this issue

We are having the same issue
We are using basic MP4 with H.264 codec as well
www.30atelevision.com is where our player is
all fine til the latest update.
Adobe claims its not Flash Player. We are not convinced, as we have checked numerous files, reencoded and so on.

We do thank Adocbe for at least responding. Further checking is needed for this suspected bug

  • Front Row won't play .mp4 files

I just recently started using Front Row and, for some reason, it won't play .mp4 files. The said files are in my Movie folder and show up in Front Row's "Movies" menu, but when I try to play them it says "Selected video could not be played, format was not recognized."
    Please help!!

iTunes only supports MP4s encoded using the Main Profile, but many MP4s that you can download from the web are encoded using High Profile. These need to be converted.
You can use an app like VideoSpec or MediaInfo to list the encoding characteristics of your MP4s.

  • Safari will not play .mp4 movies

I upload a .mp4 movie to my server and Safari cannot play it. It displays a mass of numbers and such.
I found an article online that says to add a .htaccess file to my server at the, infamous, "root level"... what's this guy smokin'??? Could this possibly work? Has anyone had a similar experience with Safari not playing .mp4 videos? (They play just fine in QT Player)
    Thanks

If you are having problems playing MPEG4 video in Quicktime 7.4 (and Apple are aware that some users have had such problems) you should carefully check in
    /Library/Quicktime and
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins and
    Home/Library/Quicktime
to check whether you have any third party plug-ins that are not completely up to date.
Current versions of Flip4Mac and DiVX and Perian do NOT cause failure alone or in combination. However the one SPECIFIC extension that ALWAYS causes the failure alone or in groups is 3ivxMediaImp. All other 3ivx extensions DO work. Remove only that ONE SPECIFIC extension.
Please try this and see if it fixes your problem with QT Player, the QT Firefox Plugin, and iTunes not playing MPEG4 files (including mp4 files).
Older 3ivx and DivX components are often incompatible with new QuickTime versions and are, in many cases, obviated by component packs like Perian.
This is not the only explanation for issues with MPEG4 file playback in QuickTime 7.4 and later, however. The issue with videos from democracynow.org and others, for instance, is the result of that content not complying with MPEG4 standards (namely that they use bogus track dimensions). QuickTime had previously ignored invalid track dimensions but this was changed in order to support properly authored anamorphic content.
The recent update to QT 7.4.1 has fixed a number of issues but some problems are unavoidable when working with non-standards compliant content. The standards are important for many reasons including keeping hackers from manipulating improperly coded web pages.
However, there is a workaround (also the basis for why those files will still play in iTunes): there are a few ways to trick QuickTime into ignoring the invalid track data. For instance, rename the files .3GP and they'll show up just fine.
Post back if you want a list of the plug-ins you should have in order to play pretty much anything in Quicktime.

  • VideoDisplay component to play mp4/h.264 content

    Hi,
I want to build a simple video player that plays HD movie
    content.
Can the VideoDisplay component in flex builder 3 be used play
    mp4/h.264 content?
If so how is it done as I have tried setting VideoDisplay's
source to a local MP4 file and it will not play? I know for sure
that the file is loaded and that it is h.264.
    Can anyone please help me?
    Regards
    Adam
    Flexchief

    Hey chief,
I think you'll find the answer to this issue lies in your
    encoding, not in Flex.
The VideoDisplay component plays FLV files and H.264. Your
video file must adhere to the MPEG4 specs. If you've created an MP4
file using an Adobe product, this should work if you did not stray
too far from the Adobe Media Encoder settings, like trying to
squeeze the file size down too far. Flash player 9.0.115.0 or later
must be used to view H.264 video.
If in doubt, use AME to create a small MP4 clip at default
settings (use something like "web banner 320x240") and see if that
plays. If it plays, start going through all your encoding settings
and see if you set something out of spec--like maybe the audio
settings. Just use straight AAC for the audio, 48kHz, 192 kbps
bitrate. Video, use NTSC (fps shouldn't matter...) progressive,
square pixels, "main" profile, "level" of 3. Change the Bitrate
encoding to CBR (you are probably using VBR for high quality, but
    just try it).
Any of these settings may trip Flex up. You just have to
experiment. If this doesn't work, send me some more info on how you
    created the video file.
