Playing MPEG-4 Video files in iTunes - No Sound

Hi there,
I have recently purchased some albums with videos etc.. However, I cannot seem to hear the sound. The video plays in iTunes without any problems but there is no sound coming out. Is this to do with codecs etc... I am running under Windows XP.
Thanks for any help and suggestions.

Download and install QuickTime 7.4.1 - make sure to select the standalone version, not the one with iTunes - and your troubles should be taken care of.

  • To Decode and play  MPEG-2 Video files with JMF

    Hi ALL,
I amin serious trouble with a problem. I am developing a Simulator, a function of which is to decode MPEG-2 Video files in real time and play it as well.I have got a MPEG-2 Decoder implemented in C from an open source and need to integrate with my Simulator which is writtebn in Java. The integration part I am doing via JNI(Java Native Interface). Now I have a bunch of C files in MPEG-2 decoder which are to be compiled during the Execution of the Java Simulator. Can anybody give some idea about how to call multiple C files from the Java Source through JNI at one go? Another problem I am facing is in calling a single C code from the traditional "HelloWorld" Java Code itself. The problem comes when I am trying to compile the shared library between the C native code and Java Code in my Linux Machine...I am getting the following message:
    /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-redhat-linux/2.96/.../../../crt1.0 : In function '_start' :
    /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-redhat-linux/2.96/.../../../crt1.0(.text+0x18): undefined reference to 'main'

  • How do I play MPEG-2 video files on my iPod Classic 80 gig?

Will it play MPEG-2 files taken on my Sony HDD video camera? each time I try and import them or drag and drop them in to iTunes nothing happens. Do I need to convert them to MPEG-4 format and if so how do I do this? What software is needed and where can I get it?
    Cheers

If you have Quicktime Pro, you should be able to open the video files, then Export to Ipod. Quicktime has automatic settings that will convert the audio/video to match the file types of ipods. Once done with each file, just drag them into iTunes, they will get copies to specific folders as necessary, and you can sync them to your ipod.

  • Playing MPEG-2 video files

    Hello!
I have a series of .mov files filmed at my wedding, and I'm not able to open them in QT X or QT 7.6.6.
The codecs listed in the Info for the files are: MPEG-2, Linear PCM, and Timecode.
Original format is MPEG HD, at 1280 x 720.
I purchased the MPEG-2 codec from Apple, and when I attempt to open the .mov files in QT 7.6.6, the viewer window opens along with another Quicktime message window that says:
"Additional software is required for QuickTime to playback this media. It may be available
    from the QuickTime Components page."
This page lists various available component options, but there's no information about which if any is the "additional software" required.
Any tips about how to get these files to play would be much appreciated.
    Thank you!
    David

Your first paragraph would seem to indicate the files may have been imported using iMovie '08/'09 which strips the AC3 audio from the original "muxed" MPEG-2 camcorder files and converts it to PCM audio and then converts the MPEG-2 video to all I-frame MPEG-2 which can then be edited by iMovie. If true, then your second paragraph would tend to indicate the special QT MPEG-2 component (different from the QT MPEG-2 Playback Component purchased from Apple) cannot be accessed on the current system on which you are trying to view the files and would be why you are getting the missing software component message.

  • Converting MPEG-4 video files to AppleTV

I'm trying to convert an MPEG-4 Video file in iTunes to AppleTV. I have tried various settings when exporting to iTunes. The imported file plays fine in iTunes, but the converted file just gives me audio and a white screen - no picture. The converted file is only about 39MB, when the original MPEG-4 file was about 2G. It appears that the audio portion is converting, but not the video. Can anyone out there tell me what I'm doing wrong?

I think the mystery has been solved. I switched to H.264, and it worked beautifully. Apparently, that's the only format that works. Too bad that neither QuicktimePRO nor iTunes mention this when you attempt to do the conversion to AppleTV...
    Thanks, for the help!

  • Cannot play MPEG-4 video... help please.

Hi. I'm running OSX 10.4.10, and QT 7.2, yet I cannot play mpeg-4 video files. I get an error message that reads "The movie could not be opened. The file is not a movie file."
.>; Last I read though, isn't mpeg-4 supported by the current versions of QT? Am I doing something wrong?

Microsoft didn't follow the industries standards and QuickTime has trouble with some of those files. Even though the extension may say .mp4 it could contain Microsoft codecs which would require third party software help.

  • Album/playlist downloaded from iTunes includes mpeg-4 video file?

I have downloaded from iTunes an album that includes an mpeg-4 video file?  What is the best medium CD or DVD and format for burning the playlist?  Assume it could be played on a CD player (for sound only) or a DVD player.

Handbrake includes a universal setting which makes the video compatible with the iPhone/iPod, Apple TV, and with iTunes on your computer. It also includes an iPhone/iPod compatible setting.

  • Upgrading to iTunes 10.6.0.40 imports MPEG-4 movie files as "QuickTime movie file" not "MPEG-4 Video file"

Recently updated itunes to 10.6 and since then adding any new MPEG-4 Video file itunes is flagging as QuickTime.
This creates an issue since my Apple TV doesn't recognize these types of files in iTunes.
To validate it's the itune upgrade, previous "MPEG-4 Video file" entries added and played on Apple-TV were imported an now show as "QuickTime Video file"
    Thx

This problem has been resolved after the ATV update was received.
The ATV now recognizes the videos marked in itunes as Quick time eventhough they are Mpeg-4 video files.

  • MPEG-4 video files won't play in Quicktime

I bought movies on iTunes and I can only watch them on my iPod. I can't view the movies with Quicktime or with iTunes. The movies are MPEG-4 video files. Any suggestions? I can't figure it out.

I solved my problem with MP4 and MOV files not playing on my Windows XP Pro PC.
Short solution: Reinstall latest NVIDIA driver from NVIDIA not Microsoft.
A few days ago, I decided to rebuild my PC from scratch, after deciding to change from Norton to McAfee for performance reasons. I reinstalled Windows XP Pro from the installation disks and performed Microsoft Update to bring it up to current. I then manually installed all optional software and hardware "updates". Installing the optional video driver turned out to be the cause of the problem, but I did not know it then. It was a very obsolete driver - NVidia Corportation – Video – NVIDIA GeForce 3 Ti200 released on July 28, 2003
I downloaded and installed Quicktime with iTunes which installed QuickTime 7.4.1 and iTunes 7.6.0.29. Neither would play MP4 or even MOV files. I got garbled, scrambled, blocks of colored video. Audio would play OK.
A re-install of QuickTime did not help and both products said they were up to date.
A temporary quick-fix was to uncheck DirectX - Enable Direct3D Video accelleration in QuickTime-Edit-Preferences-QuickTime Preferences-Advanced, or select Safe Mode (GDI only).
The permanent fix was to update the video drivers and NOT use the Microsoft supplied update. I went to www.nvidia.com, selected "support" on the taskbar, clicked "download drivers", entered product type=Legacy and GeForce3 Series and Windows XP and clicked Search. That found ForceWare Release 90 version 93.71 dated Nov 2, 2006. It supports a huge number of NVidia cards. I downloaded it and installed it and everything worked after that.
To prevent Microsoft Update from re-installing the Optional Hardware video driver, run Microsoft Update manually (e.g. from IE-Tools-Windows Update) click "Custom", select Optional Hardware, Expand the NVidia Corportation – Video – NVIDIA GeForce 3 Ti200 released on July 28, 2003 and check "Don't show this update again". Then close Microsoft Update. (while you are at it, do the same for the optional audio update. That really messed up my system)
I hope this helps at least a few people. Good luck.

  • Anyway to create an MP3 from a MPEG-4 Video file already in my Itunes?

    Hi,
I am a Windows user and have Itunes ver 8.
I have a video in my ITunes library and want to convert it to MP3 to get the audio only. Is there a way to do that? I have highlighted the song in Itunes
and went to Advanced where I have created an mp3 version from songs I have in my Itunes library, but when I chose Create MP3 version that choice is not highlighted. I can use Advanced -> Creat an IPod or Iphone version but am advised that the video is already in the correct format. If I use File->Show in Windows Explorer it is listed there as a MPEG-4 Video file in properties.
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Mickpick

MPEG Streamclip might be able to extract the audio file. I'm not sure, but it's free so there's no penalty for giving it a try.
    Regards.

  • Transfering MPEG-4 video file to ipod video

I just got the new video ipod and its amazing. but the set back is this stupid dependence on making the already quicktime file a special "ipod 320x240" file.
So i made a video in imovie and exported it in the special ipod ready format (just like the tutorial said to do when you get the error message when attempting to transfer a non-compatible video file from itunes to the ipod). the video is 4 mins long and it went on to the ipod fine and played perfectly. so today i finished up the video and now its a total of 13 mins long. i exported it the same way as i did to the first video that worked fine BUT now im getting the error message i get when the video hasn't been exported correctly. I KNOW I EXPORTED IT CORRECTLY. ITS IN MPEG-4 format and when i look at the icon of it on the desktop it has a itunes label to. (it looks exactly the same as the file i used before and worked)
it just doesnt make sense so i tried exprorting it through quicktime pro
    SAME PROBLEM. i dont understand
please if anyone has any idea on what i can do THROW ME A FREAKIN BONE HERE!!

Am a bit confused here. Both Steve and COZY claim to have used the "Special iPod 320x240" option to create MPEG4 clips. The only problem is, the only iPod preset uses the H.264 codec and does produce a file icon with the iTunes overlay. Thus, if the file format is really standard MPEG4, then something appears to have gone wrong during compression.
If, on the other hand, the file was really exported to MPEG4 (or ISMA MPEG4), then questions arise as to specific user settings applied. For instance, neither Steve nor COZY mentioned their audio settings. Were, for instance, the streaming settings left turned on.
Thus, to determining what is really going on, you need to state the "real" audio and video formats, data rates for each, original, as well as, display settings, etc. as described in the "Show Movie Info" window.

  • Putting video files into itunes

I've tried again and again, but I cannot get my video files into itunes.
It wont work with my .avi files, my .wmv ones or anything apart from MPEGs.
If someone knows of some way I can convert my files into a compatible one, or any other options available to me?
    Nick

iTunes (or Quicktime) doesn't play back avi's by default. There are some workarounds, which may or may not work (I have mixed experiences).
First of all, install Perian for Quicktime. This allows you to play most video&audio formats which QT doesn't play by default (except windows media & real media).
From here you have 3 options:
    1. Install Xcode. Then, in terminal do this:
    +SetFile -t "MooV" YourTarget.avi+
This tells your Mac that it's a movie. You'll have to navigate in terminal to your file though.
Then just drag & drop into iTunes.
*2. & 3.* Open your movie in Quicktime Pro and save it as a QuickTime Movie (either referenced or self-contained). There also is an "utility", movie2itunes, which does the referencing automatically & you don't need QT Pro. Again, just drag&drop into iTunes.
    Note:
    - Most of the time this works for me (I'm using movie2itunes). Recently I've gotten some files which don't work in iTunes, but do in QT.
    - There is no such "cheat" for iPods, you'll have to convert.

  • Diff between "MPEG-4 Video File" & "MPEG-4 Movie" (PC) ?

iTunes seems to play both video types. I have several dozen of each on my PC. Both are in my iTunes "Movies" folder and all are video.
The "MPEG-4 Video File" icon is the little music note on top of a CD with "MPEG 4" under it.
The "MPEG-4 Movie" icon is a little "Q" in what looks like a film frame with "MPG4" under the Q.
Is there difference in the way iTunes handles either and should I save video files in one mode or the other? Why?
    Thanks!

Handbrake includes a universal setting which makes the video compatible with the iPhone/iPod, Apple TV, and with iTunes on your computer. It also includes an iPhone/iPod compatible setting.
