Playing out of one ear??

I'm not sure if there's like a virus or something on my iPod or what, but it only plays out of one ear. Volume controls and main controls still work perfectly.
At first i thought it was the headphones, but when i got my iPod 4th gen. i tried those new headphones with it and it still only plays music out of one ear.
Any thoughts, suggestions? Please help!

Maybe the balance of left to right is really off, although I don't really know if it's possible to do that... check the EQ and everything to see if you can adjust the balance.

  • Headphones only provide sound out of one ear phone

Hi, I've got a 17" flat panel iMac running 10.4.2. I recently purchased a pair of good (Grado SR80) headphones for general use. When I plug them in to the Mac's headphone port, I get sound out of one ear phone only. Nothing out of the other. The supplied Apple speakers work fine, however, with sound from both speakers. Any idea how I can get the phones to play normally? I'm really disappointed. The headphone port couldn't possibly be monoaural could it? Or so underpowered it won't power a pair of phones?

I only have one pair! The speakers work perfectly on my small JVC mini stereo set (which only has 10W of power). The speakers are plugged into the little speaker port on the iMac (I think the Apple iMac speaker jack is non-standard). The headphones were plugged into the headphone jack. I checked the Audio control panel. The settings are fine.

  • For some reason , when i restore my iphone 4s to factory settings my headphones work when listening to music or youtube videos but when i backup my information onto it , it only comes out of one ear bud and i just got a new one from the apple store.

for some reason , when i restore my iphone 4s to factory settings my headphones work when listening to music or youtube videos but when i backup my information onto it , it only comes out of one ear bud and i just got a new one from the apple store. my old iphone 4s audio jack was messed up but i just got a new one with my warranty , can anyone help me please.

It doesn't matter what it is in your backup that's causing the problem because you can not selectively restore things from your backup. It's all or nothing.
Set you phone up as a new device and start over.

  • Sound only coming out of one ear.

So recently my ipods sound has only been coming out of one ear. I thought it was the headphones so I bought a new pair but it's still not working. Any ideas?

It is a bad contact between the iPod earphone jack with the plug.
Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/

  • My daughters ipod only plays out of one side on her headphones.  Is there a problem with the ipod?

My daughters ipod only plays out of one side on her headphones.  I've tried other headphones.  Is there a problem with her ipod?

First make sure the headphones are plugged in all the way in (it takes a bit of force to get the solid click sound) and sound balance is set in the middle. Second, test the headphones on another device to see if they operate correctly and test the iPod with the original Apple earphones that came with the iPod to see if it works correctly. Lastly, if you are using third-party headphones, make sure that their plug is iPod compatible.

  • IPhone 4 sound issues (only out of one ear bud)

I've tried multiple headphones/ear buds and I can only hear music out of one side. This is obviously an iPhone 4 issues considering the headphones don't work on it but work on other stuff.
Any ideas on how to get this fixed? I got this phone less than a month ago (no protection plan and I refuse to call Apple because they know nothing. I've gotten more help on THESE FORUMS than I have through their phone line.)

I refuse to call Apple because they know nothing.
Huh? Perhaps you just had a poor experience but I have always been very impressed with Apple Care on the phone. Just try to escalate to tier 2 and the engineers if the first person cannot resolve.
In terms of the issue, try blowing compressed air into the jack. It is possible the jack is faulty somehow so also stop into the genius bar, they might just swap it out for ya.

  • Does your music only play out of one speaker?

I was only hearing music played out of the left channel, either with or without headphones and also when played through a dock.
    I found the solution:
Go to Settings : General : Accessibility and slide the L - R slider to the middle.  Now the music plays out of both the L and the R speakers.
(If you tap the mono button there, then you will also hear sound out of both speakers, but you won't hear stereo effects, so don't do that).

Yes, that is a helpful addition to this thread, but my solution has to do with the speakers and the headphones that are plugged into the iPhone, as well as the stereo effect coming out of the iPhone itself.  When the accessibility slider is not in the middle, then you only hear one channel of the stereo program whether fromt he iPhone or from plugged in speakers.

  • Can only hear sound out of one ear in iPod 30gb

My nephew can only hear sound from one ear of his headphones.
    1) he's not becoming deaf and we've tried multiple pairs of headphones that give the SAME result.
    2) the volume settings are correct, so its not that.
What are the options here? Is there a known fix? If its a hardware issue, can Apple do anything (free under warranty or repair with charge)?
    Thank you for your help!

  • Why do my headphones only play out of right ear when they're perfectly fine?

my headphones were working fine last night but this morning when I went to listen to music they would only work out of right ear. If anyone knows the solution to this please let me know

It is very possible there is some type of dirt/debris in the headphone port. Check that area. Also, try unplugging and replugging the headphones, or wiggling them around gently in the port. Does that change things? Do you have a case on the phone? Is the headphone jack fully seated in the port?

  • Only getting audio out of one ear

Only getting audio out if 1 ear on my mini. Both ears work on all other devices.

    EverclearFan,
Did this soundcard come preinstalled in your computer? If so you will need to contact your computer manufacturer for support as the card may be OEM. OEM components are often modified from their retail standards and require special drivers that only the Vendor will have access to.

  • My ipod will only play out of one headphone

i know it is not the headphones because i have brought new ones twice now and the right headphone still wont play... does anyone have any help or do you think apple will try to fix it?

I have the same problem but my warranty has run out, anyone have any suggestions? I've tried different headphones and its definately the socket you plug headphones into on the ipod thats the problem.
I'd prefer not to just get a new ipod when all that seems to be wrong is the headphone jack!

  • 5th Generation iPod only plays out of one speaker

So I have an 5th generation iPod and have never had ANY problems with it apart from the usual freezing and a few odd corrupt songs. I've had this iPod for five years now and for the longest time I thought that my iPod dock was broken because whenever I put my iPod on, it only came out of the left speaker so in specific songs you could only hear half of the people singing.
I recently bought a new dock but have come to the realization that it is no in fact the dock but my iPod.
I have checked multiple other discussions and no one has had this exact problem because through the headphone jack and with any headphones or connections from the jack it plays perfectly through both the Left and the Right.
I think it's something to do with the bottom outlet that connects to the dock because if I move it at a certain angle, it works. However, it's very inconvenient because the angle doesn't stay and eventually the iPod shifts and the right speaker cuts out again.
I've had this iPod for 5 years and it works PERFECTLY just not on a dock ! Please help so I don't have to go buy a new one. Thanks.

  • How can i get a track to play in only one ear?

I'm trying to make a track play only in the right earbud... is this possible?

Record the track as a mono track and then pan the track to the right as far as possible.

  • Captured video only plays audio through one speaker

I captured video from a mini dv and when I play the clip in FCP the audio only plays out of one speaker and it only shows on one audio meter in FCP. I captured this video with a DSR-20 and it displayed NS Audio on the screen. Both meters were playing on the deck and in FCP while previewing and also through my headphones. Does anyone know what I need to do this to correct this?

First I'd verify how the audio was captured. Did you have it set for Ch 1 + Ch 2, or Stereo, or Ch 1 [only], or Ch 2 [only] or as a mono mix?
Next, verify that you actually had two channels of audio on the tape, not just one channel.
Assuming that there are two channels on the tape, load the captured clip into the Viewer and see if there is an audio waveform on both channels. If there is, check to see if both channels are panned the same - if they are, pan one left and one right or both to center.
If there were no waveforms on one of the channels, try capturing a short segment of the same tape using another Firewire cable.
