Playing podcast crashes iPod

I'm having a strange problem. When I try to play a podcast from one particular series on my iPod, it crashes. The Apple logo comes up and the iPod restarts. This happens every single time I attempt to play any podcast from this series. However, these podcasts play just fine on my Mac in iTunes. Also, other podcasts will play perfectly on my iPod. Even more strange, the podcasts in question that don't work now USED to work just fine. I seem to remember the problem happening after the QT update or perhaps an iPod update - I'm not sure.
Does anyone have a clue why this might be happening, and what I can do to fix it?
Thanks.

The 1.2 firmware added gapless playback, backlight dimmer, improved battery life, and the ability to play movies to your iPod. But if you want to revert back to an earlier firmware, I suppose you could just got to apple.com/support and then click the download section and download an earlier firmware. I suggest not doing this because you will loose all the features i stated above, and iTunes 7.X requires firmware 1.2 on the iPod 5g.
As for now just turn off the EQ it will allow to play podcasts and it will make your batter last longer.
Hope I could help.

  • Some Podcasts crash iPod

Local iPod store replaced my iPod last week with a new unit. I have been adding back my podcasts, but only half work correctly. When I select one that doesn't work, it causes the iPod to reset. I have Unsubscribed, deleted and re-subscribed, but it doesn't help. ??

Can I ask if anyone has had similar issues at the end of a podcast? I've done the 0:01 trick which makes them play but the iPod still dies at random places at the last 0:60 of the podcast.
An interesting tidbit is this doen't occur on a standard Stereo 192bps MP3. I did rip something conforming to the podcast standards (64bps) MP3 Mono.
I've been able to reproduce with 100% accuracy the 64bps Mono MP3 breaking the iPod. Note these were converted from a working MP3. My final test was to upsample a 64bps mono to another rate (in my test case 32/64bps AAC) Both the beginning and end crashes stop. I'd say this proves to a degree there is an issue with 64bps mono MP3. I've not tested further. The only problem here is a converted Podcast shows in ones smart playlists and no longer under podcast.

  • Apple Podcast crashes iPod Classic

I've had a few problems with some video podcasts not working properly but I've normally put them down to third party software generating the podcast not being configured correctly and creating a corrupted video file. However my recent issue has brought new concern as to what is going on with my iPod classic.
The recent Apple Quick Tip of the Week - Tip 45: Searching the Dictionary, causes my iPod classic to reset. It's not just a occasional problem but happens everytime I run that file and exactly at the same spot each time.
    iPod Classic configuration:
    160GB version
    Serial Number: 8M7379DXYMX
    Model: MB150
    Version: 1.1.1 Mac
Previously seen issues with cut outs and hangs with video podcasts from NAPP, e.g. Photoshop TV and PS Killer Tips. This is the first time a podcast has caused the iPod to completely reset though.

Perhaps that's why Apple posted the update!
You are probably correct when you suggest that "third party software generating the podcast not being configured correctly and creating a corrupted video file" has something to do with it. Maybe the people who create the Apple Quick Tip of the Week haven't checked to make sure what they do actually works.
I had a video (converted by iTunes for the iPod) that caused my iPod 160GB to crash, twice. Since that video was not that important to me, I removed it and it will not go back on regardless of software updates. These things happen. However, to someone like me who grew up with vinyl records, the iPod is fantastic!

  • How to add back older, played podcasts to iPod?

I cleared out some room from my nano and now I'd like to put back some of the podcasts that I removed to sacrifice for others. However, when I add them back iTunes says it's copying them but they don't show up on the nano. I'm assuming this is because it's still set to sync all unplayed podcasts. But when I remove that preference it deletes all the podcasts from the nano. When I put back on any variation of podcast sync, I can't get these back in because they're not recent or unplayed. Uncheck the sync button and I get nothing again. Can I really not add any older podcasts back in while any kind of sync is checked (since unchecking it kills the whole deal) ?
These podcasts exist in the iTunes folder, but I can't manually or otherwise get them back into the nano.
    Um...help? : )

Well, I've discovered this much: If I drag it from the library onto the iPod icon it will say it's copying but not actually put it in the iPod. They're videos but iTunes will not let me drag them onto the video folder...
    BUT...
If I create a new video playlist in the iPod it will allow me to drag it in there as if it were a normal, non-podcast video.
So that gets me part of the way there. Now, how can I put it back with the other podcasts from the same show? iTunes won't let me just drag it there from the video playlist.
    Thanks.

  • IPod crashes when playing podcasts since iTunes 7 upgrade

As the title suggests, ever since installing iTunes 7 on my Mac Pro, nearly every new podcast episode I attempt to play on my iPod results in crashing/rebooting said device. After the problem started with just some podcasts the issue has since spread like a cancer to my entire podcast library.
Here is the really bizarre part: if I preplay the podcast(s) on my Mac within iTunes, they run successfully on the iPod. But then and only they will they play successfully. If a fresh (unplayed) podcast is downloaded to the iPod, it instantly and spontaneously reboots the moment I attempt to play it from there.
iTunes 7 has unleashed a torrent of bugs on my Mac. This is the worst experience I have ever had with any Apple product.

I am having the same problem. And I am disturbed that no one has responded since after searching other forums, other people are having this issue as well.
I have a 5th generation iPod and run the new 7.0 iTunes on my Windows XP Pro.
I have not yet tried to listen to the audio Podcast direct from my computer yet, but my iPod certainly crashes and resets itself whenever I try to play the Podcast.
I have already tried to unsubscribe from the Podcast this affects, and then re-subscribe, but the problem still occurs, no matter how recent of an episode I try to listen to.
iTunes 7.0 = Greatly disappointing thus far. Any sort of reccomendation, suggestion, friendly, and/or helpful advice would be lovely.
    Thank you!

  • ITunes 7.0.0 crashes podcasts on iPod

iTunes 7 has been an unmitigated disaster -- days of trying to get it to work, etc.(coals to Newcastle), but the worst is for the first time my iPod Video 30 Gb is crashing when I play podcasts downloaded and transferred by iTunes 7. Curiously, it didn't create the problem with the music. Took me days to realize this beta (alpha?) software was the problem, and not ready for prime time. Actually, it was this forum that clued me it wasn't a broken iPod.
Fortunately I had 6.05 on another PC. After removing the files on my iPod, and re-transferring via 6.05, I'm back to where I was. Needless to say, I'm verrry reluctant to invite the trouble again.
I haven't seen this problem posted (although I haven't read all the threads) What is 7.x doing differently with podcasts?
More important, why would these podcasts play in iTunes 7, but crash the iPod? (BTW -- when 7 installed, it also updated the iPod with new software/firmware)
Does anyone know if 7.1 fixed this?
    Thanks.

  • 30 gig video, podcasts crash the ipod with iTunes 7.0.1

has anyone had their ipod crash only when playing podcasts? short podcasts are fine, but 50 minute or more, crash and restart the ipod. playing music is fine.

I have noticed two things with my 30 gig Video Ipod since i updated the software thru iTunes 7. First all my podcasts syncs that are happening with Album artwork are crashing the iPod and making it restart and the second is that it has also affected some songs albeit selectively. I tried turning the album artwork off and only once did one of the five podcasts i downloaded did work!
All the Podcasts or most of the ones that I had downloaded before iTunes 7 updater for iPod do tend to work but there is no pattern.
The reason I love apple and my iPod is the sheer magic of podcasts that are my companion and daily dose of caffeine en route to work...and I hate to get any glitches.
Can somebody walk through the step by step procedure to correct this or does one wait for another update from Apple?

  • IPod no longer removing played podcasts

Please help! this is driving me absolutely insane. I have my iPod sync settings set to: automatically include all unplayed episodes of selected podcasts. It used to work just fine, only syncing unplayed podcasts, and removing played podcasts. now it just adds the new unplayed podcasts but doesn't remove the played ones. i make sure that i listen to the podcast all the way through. i am not doing anything differently than i have ever done. help!!!

This just started happening to me.  I discovered after much playing around that the podcast will stay on the device even after being played if it is also listed on a Smart Playlist for which the rules don't include a rule based on the number of plays.  So, for instance, I recently added the Smart Playlists called "today" and "Recently Added".  If you command-click these, and Edit, you will see that the rules that define them do not include anything to filter out played episodes.  To each one I added "Plays is 0" and that fixed it.
Alternatively, with the device plugged in, click on the device name on the left side of iTunes, click Podcasts from the iTunes options (across the top, i.e., Summary...Info... Podcasts...), and on the Podcasts page, uncheck all Smart Playlists that may be checked.
    Hope this helps.

  • IPod Plays Podcasts one at a time

I just updated my 4G iPod to V3.1 with the current updater & I am using iTunes 4.9.
Currently, I am only able to play one podcast at a time.
It will not go to the next podcast on it's own. Pressing FWD (>) to what should be the next podcast instead takes me back to the main menu. I then have to go through the the menu to get back to play the next podcast.
My iPod was able to go the next podcast both on it's own & by pressing FWD (>) before I updated the iPod but not know.
My iPod does play songs one after the other as it always did.
It looks like this is the way it is as I can not find any settings to get it to play podcast's one after the other.
    Can any one help?
    Rich

    Thanks for the guess.
    Shuffle was already off.
Only 1 of several podcasts show up in the Genre "Podcast" despite the fact there are other podcasts with "Podcast" as the Genre as listed in iTunes.
So I am now only able to play podcasts one at a time. After each one, the iPod takes me back to the main menu no matter what I do.
This situation is new, & only started after I updated to V3.1. With the previous version, I was able to play podcasts one after the other.
All my Podcasts do show up in the Podcast play list.
I think we need another solution.

  • Podcast no longer exist and podcast can not be played on this ipod

Ok I subscribed to two podcast one video and one audio and when I try to sync them to my ipod a message pops up and says they can't be synced because they no longer exist. I don't understand that because it downloads them each time there is a new one.
Well I found a way around that, but now my problem is the video podcast that I subscribed to, when I try to put it on my ipod says it can not be played on this ipod. I don't know why, it's the same format as the other one (.mov). I know I can reformat it, I already did that with one but it's like twice the size or more of the original format plus I don't want to sit and reformat each one it takes too much time.
If there is anyway I can fix this without reformatting please let me know. And if you know how to fix the first problem please that would be great.
btw I have an ipod nano 3rd generation.

Are the files you are trying to import mp3's? If not then either use iTunes to convert them or get some other third party program (i found a few really good ones but i can't remember what they were called). If they are mp3 maybe try converting them to mp3 again using a different encoder? (my LAME encoded ones seem to work fine)

My video iPod won't play podcast video. I get sound, but no video, just a still picture. Video plays fine on my computer. I just recently upgraded iTunes, but I was having the problem before that. Any suggestions?

My video iPod won't play video files. I get sound, but no video, just a still picture. Video plays fine on my computer. I used to be able to play the same video files before. When I do a "Get info", the files are of MPEG-4 type. Any suggestions?

So you are able to sync these podcasts over to your iPod Classic?  Would you be able to post a screenshot of one of these podcast's Summary tab of its Get Info window in iTunes?  Be sure to blank out the Apple ID fields and any personal informaiton shown on this tab.

  • How do I keep my ipod from playing podcasts on shuffle?

I have some "songs" that I want to classify solely in the podcast category so that they don't play when my ipod is on shuffle.  When I try to delete them from the "music" folder they are also deleted from Podcasts.   Help!

right-click on the file and get info. go to the options tab and see if you can change media kind to podcast. on the same tab, checkmark skip when shuffling.

  • IPod doesn't play podcasts??

Ok, so I sent my iPod to be repaired....replaced the cables....reset, restored, reformatted, re-everything over and over again. In the end it still freezes or resets about 80% of the time when I play podcasts on it. It happens at various times on various podcasts. It could happen within a few seconds or possibly a few minutes....if I am very lucky it might make it all the way through the podcast. I have worked with multiple layers of apple support, and nothing works.
Well, it all came down last night. Basically, my support person told me that if this last reformat and restore didn't help (which it didn't), then there wasn't much they could do for me because they don't guarantee that the iPod will play podcasts. What?! Sure, I understand that they can't guarantee any particular podcast, but I am referring to any and ALL podcasts. When I hear that from Apple it means that the following must be true:
An iPod that will not play ANY podcasts can still be categorized as fully functional and acceptable for purchase.
I'm sorry but I find that to be unacceptable. Half the reason my wife bought me the iPod Nano as a birthday gift was so I could listen to podcasts (and we aren't talking about some slacker's blogcast...this is the NYT, NPR, etc).
    Am I missing something??

I have found another disadvantage to using Dopi.
I've had times when a podcast doesn't get downloaded fully: after downloading an episode of an hour-long program the podcast shows up in iTunes as being just, say, 23 minutes long. Normally you could delete that episode, click the right-pointing arrow in the line with the name of the show (NOT the line for the episode) to bring up the show in the iTunes store, and download the episode again (and again, and again, sometimes).
If an episode doesn't download properly in Dopi, clicking on that arrow in the show name's line brings up the show's website, and often you cannot simply get a particular episode of the podcast from that website.
This is not so much a complaint about Dopi -- not much they can do about it, I reckon -- but about the fact that we need something like Dopi at all. Feh.
For me, it is only "Talk of the Nation - Science Friday" that I want in order, as they break up the two-hour show into segments (convenient, yet not so for the Shuffle) and often talk about what's been said in a previous segment, which for me comes later. I've dropped Dopi and now I either load just one segment of Science Friday with a few other shows, or I load all the segments and mutter under my breath when I hear references to a previous segment I'll not hear until after the current one.

I downloaded podcast from a polish radio site. They are fine and working on my macpro but when I try to copy them to my ipod I get a massage that " this podcast can not be played on this ipod" . what can I do?

Or because the episodes are video but are in a format which plays on iTunes but not on an iPod Touch. Only the originator of the podcast can do anything about that.
