Playing QT Movies On DVD Players

Are we able to do this? I've burned some movies I have to disk and want to watch them on my DVD player. Thet are in the .mov format. Is there a way to watch these on my player? So far, it's not working. TIA!!!

While there are some DVD players that will play divx avi video there has been no announcement of one that plays .mov files. Many of the newer ones will play VCD or SVCD disks, which are mpeg-1 or mpeg-2 files burned in a specific format on CD disks. Toast Titanium and a couple other applications for Mac will create those from .mov or DVStream files. Check versiontracker or macupdate for example with VCD or SVCD as search keys to find those apps.

  • Plays sometimes?  some dvd players, not others

I have a new MacBook Pro with a super drive and the latest version of iDVD. I work doing video editing but I never burned anything to DVDs before. So I used iDVD and I burned a few on the Taiyo Yuden DVD-Rs. We have a DVD production system that prints right onto the surface so I use no paper labels. After making a few DVDs, I played it with iDVD. I put it into a PC and played it with CyberLink's PowerDVD. They both played fine. But when I play in Windows Media Player, it doesn't work. My boss has grabbed a couple and played them on his PC and he just gets a few seconds of menu music, then it goes black. I am not sure what he used to play it. Also, some clients have taken them home and are unable to play them in a DVD player and their computers. The clients are old, and they could have old dvd players but that shouldn't matter. Before I did the edited we had them as just a video file and would play on insertion (also on dvd-r) and would work fine. So we didn't switch anything except doing the editing. We mass produce these DVDs and distribute them to clients so these need to be compatible with more. Why don't these work with everything? Is there a way to make them more generic to play in more places? I used final cut pro to edit, exported as a .mov file, then dragged to iDVD. I used just the standard revolution menu layout. Nothing fancy. Any ideas?

Once you have the disk image, you would either need to burn a disc or in some way copy that to your duplicator hard drive for duplication. Most duplicators I am aware of let you control the burn speed. I wouldn't choose the slowest or the fastest. 4x is my sweet spot right now.
I won't to go back to why has the ability to play changed question. Are you saying you had a DVD NOT made with iDVD that plays but using iDVD it doesn't play? If so, that has already been answered: could be the menu, could be uncompressed audio, could be just that particular compression.
Are you saying you have the same video made with iDVD that plays in some players but not others? Same answer! Could be the menu the player doesn't like, could be uncompressed audio the player doesn't like. Could be the compression the player doesn't like. I have seen some players that will only playback a CBR (not VBR) disc- the under 60-minute version of iDVDs encoding.
Are you saying you have a disc made on iDVD that played once on a DVD player but that same disc now won't play again? I would say something about the disk integrity has changed. Could be scratched. Could be an "invisible" defect. The only thing you now is that this one disc doesn't work anymore. If this is systematic of all your discs, I would have to say it's a compression issue.

  • Can't play a movie on DVD with QuickTime

I can't play a movie on a DVD with QuickTime. With the player open, when I go to File and then Open, I get the two Video and Audio folders on the DVD itself! The Apple Quicktime guide says of how to play video:
"To open a movie on your hard disk, a CD, or a DVD, do one of the following:
    1) In the Finder (or Windows Explorer), double-click the file or drag it to the QuickTime Player application icon.
2)Choose File > Open and select the file."
Firstly, if I double click on the DVD drive in Windows Explorer, it'll open the DVD with my default player (not Quicktime). Secondly what is the 'QuickTime Player application icon?
    Thanks, Trickyf

Thanks QuickTimeKirk. I didn't know that about QuickTime not being able to play DVD movies. However am still interesed re the icon. Where is the icon supposed to be which I drag files to? On the desktop? There isn't an icon in the player.
    Thanks

  • Which DVD format plays on all domestic DVD players?

    Hi guys
As a Mac user for many years, I've had issues in the past deciding if I should burn to DVD-R or DVD+R formats.
In my experience (Wedding videography), I opted for DVD-R because of it's wider compatibility (as it seemed at the time) with domestic DVD players.
I'm now advised by one of my customers that several recently burned DVD-R's do not play in their DVD players (this could of course also be low quality DVD-R media which I'm looking into with our supplier).
However,, I'm wondering if this may be a compatibility / format issue, and if so how best to overcome the situation?
I'm also wondering what format the likes of Blockbuster Video (etc) use for their "Domestic" DVD's which they hire to the public.
I'm guessing this may (now) be DVD-RAM - if so, is this the best format to burn to ensure best compatibility with domestic DVD players?
Any help or info to make my DVD's more widely playable, would be most welcome.
    Thanks in advance.

No computer produced DVDs are compatible with all players.
If you are making the DVDs yourself DVD-R is your best bet but there will always be the occasional player that does not work.
This is the nature of the beast and you can do nothing about it other than pay to have them professionally made by a process that does not involve burning.
This is called replication and the data is physically and permanently etched onto the disc.
All professionally produced DVDs are made this way.
Computer burned DVDs rely on an embedded dye which alters its composition when the laser hits it and as such are always next best technology.

  • Movie created in iDVD 7.01 won't play in any DVD Players at all

I created a movie in iMovie HD 6 and mastered in iDVD 7.01 it plays OK on my computer but,
it wont play on any other DVD players at all, mine or my friend's, I just get the "Loading" message on my TV. Could this be related to the brand of DVD's I'm using or the encoding that older DVD players are not able to read?
If any one knows what the problem is, Please HELP!!
    Thank you so much.
    Josh

+Could this be related to the brand of DVD's I'm using or the encoding that older DVD players are not able to read?+
Yes and yes. If it plays in your Mac, it should play in a DVD player. Use DVD-R, not any other format. Verbatim works flawlessly for me.
I recommend a disk image burned to Verbatim DVD-R at 4X or slower using Toast or Disk Utility. You can set burn speed in iDVD '08 if not creating a disc image.
David Pogue also recommends Verbatim on page 356 of his iDVD 6 book:
iMovie HD & iDVD 6: The Missing Manual
Quoting David: "Cheaper brands don't use the same amount of organic dyes and are more likely to suffer premature deaths."
iMovie '08 & iDVD: The Missing Manual.
I buy Verbatim white inkjet printable in stacks of 50. Verbatim's part number: 94971. They have been flawless for me.

  • How can I view DVD's that I dubbed from old vhs tapes?  I finalized them and can play on other DVD players but not my IMac.  Is there a specific program?

I dubbed DVD's from old VHS tapes.  I finalized them and can play tehm on differant DVD players, but on my IMac I can't play them.  Ultimately I want to create home movies with pics, but how can I play the DVD's?

A DVD is a DVD, unless it's been authored in a non-standard way. When you insert it in your Mac, do you at least see the disk appear on the desktop? Does it have a VIDEO_TS folder in it, containing various files?
If you open DVD Player manually (from the Applications folder), does it see it and start playing? If not, try downloading VLC (free) and see if that works.

  • Burned DVD plays on some DVD players and not others

    Hello all,
First, please forgive my ignorance because I do not work with video much and have no idea what I'm doing. Someone created a video that I need to burn so the DVD can play on any DVD player. The folder is titled "VIDEO_TS" and then the files within it have the following extensions: .BUP, .IFO, .VOB. with VIDEO and VTS as the prefixes. the largest file has a .VOB extension. The master disk is a DVD-R and I burned the video on a Verbatim DVD-R which played fine on my MAc, a PC and two DVD players. However, I tried it on two other DVD players and it could not be played. So now I'm trying to figure out how I can created a DVD that will be compatible with any DVD player or create an alternate version that can be played on the machines that currently can't play the DVD.
Does all of that make sense? I've been all over the internet and seen different suggestions for similar problems but I don't want to spend money or waste time trying different tactics that won't solve my problem.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi
This is a question very familiar in iDVD forum. I use to answer like this.
    • Brand of DVD used matters - I only use Verbatim (more organic dye in these) - but there are other GOOD Brands
    • DVD-R - plays on more DVD-players than DVD+R as it plays on even older DVD-players (DVD+/-RW - don't even think of it)
    • BURN SPEED - is a major contributor to this problem - I never go faster than x4 - I use as standard x2
There are two kinds a blanc DVD can be burned as
    • DATA-DVD - Files from DeskTop just stored on a blank DVD - few DVD-players can play this (only very very new ones and they are rare - if I'm rightly informed)
    • Video-DVD - a DVD-authoring program is a MUST. iDVD, DVD-Studio Pro, Burn, Roxio Toast etc etc
I'm told that Compressor can do this - I never got it to deliver a Playable-DVD - BUT THIS IS DUE TO MY NEGLECT !
So when iDVD or Toast creates this very special structured DVD - You find the two (must be there) folders VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS (empty) - and if the DVD-player don't find this = it will not play.
Yours - very happy with iDVD and Toast (and DVD-Studio Pro - but this is hard to get right) - Bengt W

  • HD DVDs burning for SD DVD players

    does it work?
I tried burning one and it would NOT play in my regular dvd players. Anyone?

So has anyone burned an HD DVD from DSP to a regular
DVD and had it play on a toshiba or rca HD DVD player?
I do it all the time to the Toshiba.
However, later firmware revisions to the Toshiba will cause problems.
mpeg2 HD and aiff audio work but no menus.

  • Can i play a region 1 dvd in my UK MacBook Pro ?

Hi guys , Is there a way i can play a region 1 dvd on my macbook pro thats 18 months old ?
    Thanks Garry

If you have not changed regions 5 times or more you should be able to.  After 5 region changes, the player id locked on the last region played.
    Ciao.
DVD players are now very inexpensive, so you may want to get one for a specific region.

  • DVD appears zoomed on macbook pros + macbooks but fine on imacs+DVD players

    Hi
My showreel DVD appears zoomed on macbook pros + matchbooks when inserted but plays fine on imacs+DVD players
It's as if the bottom 2 inches don't fit on the screen - to resolve this i need to hit escape - which resizes to a small window and displays correctly - from here if I select full screen the DVD displays correctly.
    any ideas?
    thanks

Check the prefs in the DVD player. It's what controls how the image appears when launched.

  • Burnt DVD jumping in DVD players

I've looked at many posts but still my question is not answered.
I have made a short video in FCP HD, output to mv2 file using compressor and 60min high quality encode preset. I have used an AIFF file for the audio. I know that it is better to compress the audio to AC3 but isn't this just relevant for longer times? My video is less than three minutes.
In any case this problem seems to be happening only recently, though I haven't altered my system. It must be the way I'm doing it. The DVDs I made before still play alright in my DVD players. These problem DVDs play fine on the apple desktop i.e. computer, just not in the 2 DVD players that I test them on. One of these is a Samsung combie, the other is a Mico that usually plays everything. I mean they play, but they jump wildly and in the Samsung loud and sharp crackles come from the speakers. It's a real nightmare.
I've used DVD SP 1.5 to build and even tried just dragging the compressed video file + audio into toast and burn that way. The worst scenario of all seems to happen when I use disk utility to burn the disc image from DVD SP. That's when the real **** breaks lose. I just want a DVD that is as reliable as poss. for sending off for screening. I don't know what kind of player my host will have.
I don't know where the problem is coming from. Any help available?
    thanks

    Hi:

The biggest problems of using AIFF (uncompressed ) audio in your DVD-R builds is the bitrate that your audio uses, what in a lot of players can "jump wildly". The secondaru advantage of using AC3 is the space saving issue.
Then do encode your audio to AC3 allways.
I can't remember but, DVDSP 1.5 did include A.Pack? I think so ! You can find this Encoding AC3 with A.Pack (from KenStone site) tutorial useful.
Try re-encoding your audio and let us know !

  • How can I convert my iPhone 5 movies to a DVD to play in DVD players?

How can I convert my iPhone 5 movies to a DVD to play in DVD players?

    Here's one way:
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/video-to-dvd/id569680533?mt=8&ign-mpt=uo%3D2
Or, you look for software like this:

  • I want to save my iphone movies to a DVD to play on standard DVD players. Recommendations for software?

I have an old macbook that doesn't have a video conversion program.  I would like to burn my iphone movies onto DVDs that play on standard DVD players.  I would appreciate recommendations for software that I should get to convert the files and burn the movies.  Free is best but I will pay if I have to.

If you have a MacBook, it should have come with iLife. iLife includes iMovie and iDVD. These should do the job nicely, even older versions of them.

  • Help, I'm drowning...movies play on computer but not in DVD players

a problem i seem to have with my videos is that when I am done, they play on computers using dvd player apps but when I burn them to a DVD to play in a DVD player they do not play correctly. It drops frames or looks like they skip or something..For instance they play for a couple of seconds, stop, continue to play, stop, continue to play...this goes on throughout the entire video.
What causes this to happen? I've experimented with different compression formats and get the same outcome. I also tried both DVD studio and Toast to burn the DVD and get same results with both.
Is there a basic setting that I am over looking? What is the format that everyone uses when using Compressor? Currently I go from FCP, to Compressor, to DVD...I have nearly went through all the compressor formats and still get jerky,stop/play/stop/play video when going to the DVD format....
    HELP...what am I over looking??

"....and you still haven't converted your audio to Dolby2 as I've suggested since my first post."
YES It was converted in compressor to a Dolby/ac3 file this morning when i mentioned it in my last post .."that I re-compressed it again as a "Best Quality 90...." and said that it fixed about 95% of the jerkiness..."
And since your first post i've only been at the project since this morning...not last night.and it was the first thing i tackled (and tried) when i got in ..When I posted the issue i was at home and not at the office, so Iwas not able to try anything until this morning
So let me re-explain what I have done to the file since 7:30 this AM..
I re-sent it to compressor, compressed at Best 90/Dolby ->AC3....I then opened DVDsp...I dragged both files...(the Mpeg file and the AC3 to the DVDsp window...Simulated and burned..I burn two copies. one for me, one for the client...we use two different DVD players. He says its still a lil jerky...I reply saying yes I saw it on my disc as well.
SO with being said and the file IS currently a dolby AC3...why would it still be jerky?
Would it have anything to do with footage being ripped from another disc?
I really appreciate the help you offering but it sounds like you are being condescending trough your answers and making it seem as though i am not doing what you suggest.
