Playing Quicktime on TV.

I have Quicktime Pro 7.1.3 and would like to know how to play an animated
movie I've created, on TV via a DVD player. I've tried a few export formats,codecs etc. and then copied to CD or DVD without any luck. Can anybody help?

I take it that you meant if it played alright in Quicktime then I just have to author the DVD right and everything would be "tickety-boo". Could you explain in a bit more detail about DVD authoring.Reference to playing in QT Pro was to ensure the file was either fully QT compatible or QT compatible with third-party components installed. As long as the file is QT compatible, then an application like iDVD should have no problem converting your file from the current compression format to "muxed" MPEG-2 (VOB) which can then be burned to a DVD by the application. As many new users are not familier with the various QT compression formats and I am not familiar with your level of expertiese as a Mac user, it seemed easier to relate conversion compatibility to playback compatibility and worry about "playback only" compatibility later if required.
In any case, once you select a theme, add your movie, and customize the text, either application will "author" and burn a DVD which will be compatible most commercial players. Basically, this simply means it will create a menu (if required), convert your movie to the proper format, create the support files needed by the DVD to play, and place everything in the expectd VIDEO_TS folder. iDVD is more specialized when it comes to DVD only creation while Toast is probably easier to use and more versatile when it comes to input and out put formats. (I.e., it may accept compression formats for which the user does not have a proper codec installed and will output to VCD, SVCD, and/or DVD discs.)

I can no longer play quicktime mov files from a canon firestore from an HDV camera that play on other macs and play in vlc. It happened all of a sudden. Files that I could play before no longer play. It seems to be something wrong with the quicktime codec management because the files do not play in premiere and final cut pro. In FCP it says: File Error: 1 File(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown. These files work on other computers. I have four drives and it doesnt matter which file i attempt to open on each drive, these files are unreadable on this system. Please help. Possible issues might be a corrupted index, but i dont understand how that can go across four different drives.

Apple kindly updated Quicktime and rendered Firestore files unplayable. I think a recent update of iTunes was the culprit.
Solutions: What I did. Wipe the system disc. Re-install Snow Leopard. Re-install FCP7. Don't update Quicktime or iTunes to anything after Jun 2011. QT v7.6.6 is the last good version. That'll get your files back.
A colleague tried a different approach. For this you need a pre-July 2011 version of the file QuickTimeComponents.component. It is in the system/library/QuickTime folder. Delete your current one and drop in an old one.

Since upgrading to Lion, I cannot play QuickTime videos in Safari 5.1.1, not even on Apple's own website?

Upgraded to Lion and now I cannot watch QuickTime videos in Safari 5.1. Did not have this problem in Snow Leopard. QuickTime videos do play in Firefox. I cannot even play QuickTime videos on Apple's own website. Any suggestions? I'm using a Macbook Core 2 Duo.

I have partially solved my problem. I had software installed for a Twelve South BassJump (it improves the sound of your laptop speakers). When I removed that software, I was able to play videos on Apple's website in Safari. The company has beta software available from their website that is supposed to be Lion compatible but when I installed that the problem returned. But even with that software removed I still cannot watch videos on some sites such as Other World Computing.
I just got a new Macbook Pro yesterday with Lion installed from Apple and all video plays fine. So I believe there must be some compatibilty issues with some plug-in. I have Perian and Flip4Mac installed. I removed 3ivx and the problem still remains. I've read conflicting opinions as to Perian being Lion compatible.
Everything works fine in Firefox at this point so at least I have that to fall back on.
Check your system preference pane under "other" and tell me if you have any of the plug-ins I mentioned installed. Maybe we will be able to see a common culprit.

Safari 6.0.1 will not play QuickTime Files

I am having problems with Safari 6.0.1 playing back QuickTime Files. I reset safari and cookies and it will still not play QuickTime movies. To the best of my knowledge, QuickTime is working with all other components of the computer.
Is there a way to redownload Safari or repair it...
I could not find a place on Apple's webpage to redownload it.
I am using Mac OS 10.7.5 on a MacPro (2008).
Does anyone know how to resolve this problem?

From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extension tab.
If there are any installed, turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari.
There are several extensions such as DivX that can prevent QT content from streaming.

Quicktime 7.2 will not play Quicktime Movies

Ironic isn't it.
I recently purchased Sony's Movie Studio and it required a new(er) verson of Quicktime to import QT movies. So I download 7.2 ( i had 7.01, if I remember correctly) and installed it. I can now import QT into Vegas for editing. Fine. Great.
BUT, and here is the ironic part, Quicktime will no longer play Quicktime movies! Not .mov, .mp4, nothing. Zip. Zilch. But it will play some old avi files for some reason. All I get is the audio and flashing striped colors. Until 7.2 I could load any .mov, avi, mp4 file and edit them without a problem. (I forgot to mention, I had QT Pro) I was also using Any Video Converter to convert old home movies I'd burned to dvd to the mp4 format, and Quicktime worked flawlessly to open them too. Up until this "update" I've been very happy with the performance of Quicktime.
Now, nothing but frustation and the online Support hasn't pointed to a solution. And yes, I have updated my Dell PC running XP to all the latest service packs.
Any ideas? If I delete 7.2 I could probably re-install a version of 6 Pro that always worked, but then Vegas Movie Studio won't work. Kind of a Catch-22. Thank you for any help.

It has helped some who have had this problem. Try dragging the QuickTime webplugin folder to the desktop in case you need to put it back and see.

How to play quicktime .mov files on iphone

I would like to be able to play quicktime (.mov) files on my iphone4s but I get a message that my file cannot be played on this iphone.
I created the file in keynote, exported it to a quicktime movie with the manual advance option.
My goal is to be able to use iphone to connect to a projector with a iphone to vga adapter and thus project my presentations from the iphone.
But I cannot import import it using itunes to the iphone.
Wondering if there is an app that plays quick time movies or some other option.
The reason I cannot export from keynote is that it does not give the option for manual advance.
It only provides a fixed time option.

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Preferences/com.apple.quicktimeplayer.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

yes, you can watch videos on webpages.. You go to the webpage and instead of seeing the vdideo on the page you will see a little play button, you press that and it opens the video up in a player...

Firefox 4 not playing quicktime properly on OSX 10.6

When I upgraded to Firefox 4 on my iMac, OSX 10.6, it no longer played QuickTime video or audio properly. The symptoms tend to be inconsistent. Sometimes the audio would play but not the video. Sometimes the video would play but blink off and on with a white screen. Mp3 files will not play at all on some occasions and will play partially on others. When I removed Firefox 4 and reinstalled 3.5, everything worked fine again. Anyone have a suggestion?

Safari can play Quicktime videos and MP3's via quicktime from Safari. So yes you can post to your site. Nothing special really needed (except proper encoding as you know).
