Playing records on iMac

On my old pc I simply plugged my record player straight into the line in connection and then activated the input from the sound menu and viola, I had music. No other programs needed. I'm trying to do the same here, and from the sound menu it shows that I am recieving sound, I clicked the appropriate input (line-in), and output (internal speakers) and while the sound meter is going up and down showing it is recieving sound, nothing comes out of the speakers.
I have a U-control interface, so I plugged my record player into that and ran it into the imac with usb, and then clicked the appropriate sound input (usb), double checked that the right output was selected, and the same thing happens.
Can anyone help me?

Recorded DVDs won't play on intel imac

I got my imac Feb 2008 and from day one until now it will not play DVDs that were recorded on a Sony machine that I used to convert some VHS tapes to DVDs (I remember nothing about what settings I used on the Sony recorder and the machine is long gone). I get an error message, "The media type is not supported." These DVDs played fine on my old imac G4, they play on my work G5 with Tiger and they play on my neighbor's DVD player connected to a TV. With each upgrade of Leopard I think maybe it will work now. No dice. I have repaired disk permissions. My imac plays commercial DVDs OK.
What do I need to do to get these DVDs to play on my imac?

I received from my friend a DVD-R realized and burned and I don't know with either machine or software. This DVD plays well in my super drive DVD player and in the DVD player on a portable PC ACER (Windows), but it is recognized on no DVD player in the living room.
I don't have the preliminary draft and I then thus not reburn a new DVD. How can I do a new copy, playable on most other DVD players

My iMac won't play recorded CDs

My iMac has stopped playing recorded CDs. It will play DVDs and recognizes blank CDs and DVDs. The CDs spin for a time then are ejected. There are no error messages, just ejection. Any suggestions?

I just got a brand new iMac today and was happy with it, until I tried to burn a playlist in iTunes. It keeps flashing "insert blank disc..." - even though finder recognizes there is a blank disc, I tried three different disc. Same message. I used these same discs on my Macbook Pro and it burned them no problem.
Apple's really starting to get on my nerves with product reliability! This iMac is a replacement to one bought in April!!

DVD Plays on one iMac/Not another

I've got 2 iMacs running 10.5.6.
I've created a DVD on a Sony RDR-VXD655 digital DVD/VHS recorder/player.
DVDs created on the Sony will play on one iMac and not the other. On the one it won't play on the recorded DVD shows up as a blank DVD. The problem iMac plays commercial DVDs just fine.
I've tried to see what video utilities I have on the iMac that works and transfer them to the one that doesn't, but no luck. The only thing I haven't installed is Final Cut Express.
Any suggestions?

Contrary to popular belief, burning at the highest speed(s) are not recommended.
Burn at the slowest speeds that the discs can use.
When I would burn video dvd's. The newer drives had no problems, but the older drives wold complian, and spit out the discs.
I burn at the slowest speeds, now all of my dvd players are happier.

HT1947 Remote iPad volume not playing - plays music on iMac instead

I loaded Remote for iPad to my iPad2 and it found my music library through home sharing no problem. However, when I hit play to listen to the music on my ipad the ipad volume is silent (it shows the music time advancing) but the music is playing full volume on my imac instead. WTH? Anyone else encounter this and know how to make a quick fix so I can listen to the music on ipad? I have successfully loaded home sharing to my mac air and listen to music on that computer no problem (without it playing on my imac).

Well that's a rather useless app.
Then don't use it.
Why would I need to access my desktop PC from my iPad if we are all in the same room together? Wouldn't I just click "Play" from the desktop?
Why get up and press Play when you have a remote in your hand?
What if your desktop is in the office and you want to play music on your stereo in the family room?
Or what if you have outdoor speakers and want to access your entire library while barbecuing?

Playing recorded loops (they stay greyed out)

When recording on a loop , it creates multiple recordings, and places it on a new track. I love this functionality! However only the last loop recorded lets me play it / hear it. How do I enable the other tracks so that i can hear them (ungrey them out / enable them). Much thanks in advance for any help!

You can't. The only way is to transfer the movie to your computer and import to iTunes (making sure it is compatible) and either use home-sharing or airplay the movie off an ios device.

You should be able to open the zipped file by double clicking on it.

Firstly apologies I totally forgot to add my mac details, they are as below as for the video recorder i have a couple of VHS Video recorders I could use one is made by Black Diamond the other Thomson. They have standard scart connectors and red/white/yellow audio/video out if this make sense? As for software I have standard Mac applications iMovie iDVD.

That's a real tough one, trying to figure out why one or two CDs out of a dozen will not work...? Most likely they are slightly warped, out of round, off center or have some sort of film or blemesh that your superdrive doesn't like...?
You might try burning them to blank discs on another Mac or PC and see if they'll work that way.

I have 2 DVRs, the 'master' DVR and a secondary one. The secondary one suddenly stopped letting me play recorded show. If I try to play anything, it freezes for about 30 seconds and then goes back to live TV. I've reset the box and used the in-home agent to no avail. Any suggestions?

I am really frustrated - is it possible to view a DVD that is playing on my iMAC, on my HDTV through Apple TV??

I have been trying to figure out how to view a DVD movie that is playing on my iMAC, onto my HDTV through Apple TV... I am not getting the "conventional" Apple TV icon on my IMac Screen. I have the AirplayIt app ... Can anyone assist?

Firstly, not all Macs will do AirPlay mirroring.
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, OS X 10.8 or better and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). You can see which Mac you have and which operating system you are using by selecting 'About this Mac' from the Apple menu in the top left corner of your Mac and selecting the 'More Info' button.
Secondly, Apple's DVD application blocks AirPlay use for licensing reasons, you would need to use a third party DVD application such as VLC.
