Playing some videos

There are some sites on the internet with videos on but my mac won't play them. In the space where the video should be is a small cube with a ? in it. Is there a plug in can get for quick time to solve the problem, if so what is it and where can i get it from.
Cheers
Phil

Some files use realplayer which you can get here http://forms.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html?platform2=Mac%20OS%20X&product= RealPlayer%2010&proc=g3&lang=&show_list=0&src=macjack
I am not a big fan of it, but you can try it. I never downloaded it. You can also try downloading the file and play it in VLC player which you can get here. http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/14738
I recommend downloading VLC as it comes in handy quite often for files that won't open in quicktime. If quicktime with flip4mac or vlc won't play it, and the realplayer doesn't work, it may be a broken link on the website. Hope this helps.

  • ITunes will play some videos, but not others?

    Hello,
I use my MacBook Pro at home with Apple TV to home share videos and music. I have also recently upgraded to mavericks.
When I play videos on my tv at home they work fine, but I am traveling and now videos will not play. They just show 0:00 with a pause button instead of a play button. Some videos do work, but only a handful.
Would this be due to the mavericks upgrade? Should I re-install iTunes?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi gta,
Ok.. let's try this. Launch Disk Utility, it's in your Applications/Utilities folder. Select MacintoshHD 10.x.x in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab, then click: Repair Disk Permissions. Quit Disk Utility when it's finished.
Get Onyx. It's a free disk utility. Run the Maintenance and Cleaning Scripts once a week. It's available here: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/systemdiskutilities/onyx.html
If none of the above works, delete these files:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.networkConfig.plist
    /Users/YourName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.NetworkDiagnostics.plist
    /Users/YourName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.NetworkUtility.plist
Note -- the com.apple.network.Config.plist is not located in your home folder --
Drag those files to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot. You will have to reset your network preferences.

  • Having trouble playing some videos in IE9

    Vista Home Premium SP2
    32 bit
    IE9 and Firefox 7
I am having a terrible time with flash in IE9. I can not access that hardware acceleration feature to turn it off. If I right click on the video box I just get my normal context menu. I went to the page where it gives me the version of Flash I am using. I right clicked in that box and got the correct meny, but the option "Settings" is grayed out so that I can't select it.
Amazon.com provides videos on some products. For instance, Command Hooks. I can go to one Command product and play the video. If I go to another Command product and try to play the video, most times it just continues to show "Loading ..." and sometimes it will tell me I have to download Flash version 9 or above; I already have version 11.
It's hard to explain because it is so whacky. I can play videos on Amazon in Firefox 7.
I can also play videos on YouTube -- most of the time. Whenever I go up to the address bar, click on the blue circle to "Turn off ActiveX Filtering" and the circle remains blue, I know I am not going to be able to play the video.
Under uninstall or change a program it shows Adobe Flash Player 11 ActiveX and Adobe Flash Player 11 Plugin.
    Please, please someone, help!

Can you turn off ActiveX Filtering completely: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/867968 ?

  • I cannot play some video clips on Facebook. why is that

Some video clips on Facebook require flash player down load. When I try to see the same clips on IPAD. i can not, and I get a message that Apple doesn't allow flash player down load on Apple devices. Is there another way to see those clips

Probably not. Other web sites, like YouTube, provide video in HTML5 as an alternative so that you can watch them on any mobile device. Facebook does not provide an alternative at this time, so their videos don't play. It is annoying, but it will be this way until Facebook does what other sites do. (The fix is not to add Flash to the iPad, since Adobe has announced the cancellation of all future development of Flash on mobile devices.)

  • 11.8.800.94 IE9 plays some videos but not all, FF does

Win 7  64, ie 9. ff 22.0 also at 11.8.800.94. Video cards are Nvidea 6200 DVI and 8400GS. All software & drivers are current. This is a Gigabyte MB, 4GB.
IE will play some youtube videos like this one.http://www.youtube.com/user/UFCselect?v=DkYDh4WFnCg
    But it won't play https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSQXZhGEHYs
Sometimes the leadin commercial plays, but the video doesn't.
The second video starts but stops immediately. Eventually it times out.  There is a leadin commercial &
maybe the problem is related to that.  This one acts the same way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhmoaVu3ZN0
All those videos play fine on FF.
This NBC video plays on both IE & FF.

all HULU videos I tested worked on both. http://www.hulu.com/#!watch/511186  as a sample.
Hardware optimization doesn't change the symptoms, data and storage have both been deleted.
I tried using both video cards & that didn't make a difference.

Hi Pat, thanks so much for helping me!~
Yes, I can see the ball and text move on the link.  The videos that won't load are all on downlaod sites that I am accessing through 1channel.  If the site uses JW player everything loads with no problem. Here are a few examples:
    http://www.novamov.com/video/d9edab74ecdea
    http://www.nowvideo.eu/video/f45fa18ab276a
I have adblocker plus, MSE and Malwarebytes also.
I have the same issue with a computer with (yuk) Vista Home Premium.  Also using FF 22.0 and the same security.  Now that I think of it, this Vista computer is the one that is more important that it load flash.

  • Why won't MacBook pro with OS 10.7.4 play some videos?

After upgrading to OS 10.7.4 MacBook Pro won't play videos or display pictures from some websites, specifically from news sites. How do I fix?

But to answer your question, you might be able to create a ISO of the DVD and burn that to a new DVD.
    Insert your DVD.
    Open /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.app.
In the left side of the window, select the “DVD”.
Click “New Image” from the Disk Utility toolbar and select where you want to save the temporary image. For “Image Format”, choose “DVD/CD master” and for “Encryption”, choose “none”.
The image extension in the “Save As” box will be .cdr (this is what you want) — click “Save”.
Once the temporary image is created, it will show up on the left side of the Disk Utility window. Select it.
Insert a blank DVD (I prefer Verbatim discs).
Click “Burn” from the Disk Utility toolbar.
Another problem could be that you burned the DVD using a codec that your new machine doesn't have.
Install Perian, VLC and Flip4Mac, that combination will play anything.
Also install Flash for web content and Silverlight for Netflix.

  • Some videos play, some videos freeze

I've got a 5G 30GB ipod that worked fine until about the time I got a new computer (both old and new are Windows XP). Transferred all old library items fine to new computer. All music plays fine but newly purchased videos freeze after a few seconds and go to black then after a couple of minutes it goes back to the previous menu screen. Old videos and TV programs (purchased before the switch in computers) still play fine. Newly added videos will play fine on my computer but not on my ipod. I've got latest software updates and have done all suggested R's but problem is still there. By the way ... all videos and TV programs were purchased through iTunes (protected MPEG4), not converted and the new computer has been authorized. Any suggestions?? (Not sure if this has to do with the new computer or just a coincidence in timing.)
    HP   Windows XP

It probably does have to do with it being a new computer. In iTunes go to the Store menu on top and Deauthorize your computer. Now play one of the newly purchased videos that didn't play on the iPod. When prompted enter your Apple ID and password.
You do want to delete the ones that didn't play from your iPod, but it doesn't have anything to do with being out of disk space (not memory). Now resync the videos and see if they play correctly.
