Playing song triggers a reset after 1.2.2 upgrade

Running Leopard, iTunes 7.5, iPod 1.2.2 ... immediately after the upgrade, I found that a number of songs that used to play normally now trigger a reset: there's a pause for a second or two, then the screen goes dark and the silver Apple logo appears. This happens with a couple of files I loaded myself, including an audiobook; but it also happens with new material I downloaded through iTunes, including some of the tracks from George Harrison's "All Things Must Pass." This happens reliably with certain songs, but it seems to be random in terms of which songs are affected. Could it be somehow related to format? The audiobooks I purchased through Audible.com, which I believe are in a different format (i.e. not AAC), work fine.
I haven't tried blowing everything away and reloading from scratch. I guess that's the next step. Has anyone else seen this behavior? (Hoping for 1.2.2.1 ...)

It seems pretty clear to me that this is a 1.2.2-specific issue. I "restored my iPod to the factory settings" in iTunes (firmware 1.2.1) and the music plays OK. (The specific song I've been testing with is my iTunes-purchased copy of "Hear Me Lord" by George Harrison.) After the restore, the song plays perfectly. I reapplied the 1.2.2 update. Now when I try to play the song, the iPod resets (the screen goes dark and the silver Apple icon appears). Every single time. It's not just that song that does it, but not all of them do it.

My solution was restoring my iPhone. Techs at Apple couldn't figure out why so I had to do a restore and worked after that. I know it's a pain and you have to reinstall all you stuff, but it worked for me. Hope this helps.

I just bought a new 4GB nano and I am having problems playing the tracks I have copied. When I try to play any music, the screen goes black then the apple logo comes up for two seconds. Ive had no problem opening up my photos, or address/ical data, I only have trouble with my music files. Ive updated my software with the 2006-03-23 updater and have tried to restoring my nano twice already. Can anyone help me get my nano up and running?

So I also just bought a new 4GB nano and I am having the same problem. It started after I loaded my music on to the iPod, then found that the music was there but the "Music" option didn't appear in the main menu ( could however shuffle songs). I changed the "Menu Settings" to turn on "music" and off "Photos" (I don't use my iPod for photos.)First it took several tries for the iPod to accept my menu changes. Then, when "Music" finally showed up on the menu, I selected it and the screen went dark, the apple logo showed up, and boom back to the main menu without the "Music" option.
I restored the iPod, got "Music" to appear on the menu, and was able to select it. Everything was fine until I tried to take "Photo" off of the menu. Then repeat of the same problem. Ok so maybe the obvious answer is to leave "Photo" on the Main Menu, but I don't like the idea of a brand new product not working properly.
And, I must confess I am a bit disapointed in the service and tech help options for this issues. After all these years of supporting, and defending Apple, when I finally have a problem -- no help? I don't relish spending my 1 phone call for a product that was defective from the start.My phone company (which is truly evil)is more helpful. If anyone out there has either solved this issue, or discovered a way to resolve the problem, please, please post.

IPod Touch reseting after iOS 4.0 upgrade

I upgraded my 32GB iPod touch Monday and noticed that if I am playing music and the screen has locked, sometimes I have to reset the iPod to get it to turn back on. So far it has happened about 5 times in the last 3 days, usually after listening to a longer podcast and then waiting 5-10 minutes before moving to something else. Is this a problem with the screen lock function, the home button, or some other issue? Obviously the home button functions, since you have to hold it down to do the reset and I can do that just fine, but could it be unresponsive for some reason after the screen lock function kicks in? Am I hitting the wrong button now to get the iPod screen to turn back on after the OS update? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Using your wife's laptop, you can do the 3.0 upgrade, provided she has iTunes 8.2. You'll need to copy the update from your machine to her laptop. The update on your machine should be located at C:\Documents and Settings\(account name)\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates. The file name is iPod2,13.0_7A341Restore.ipsw You'll need to add the folder \iPod Software Updates to her laptop if it doesn't exist, then copy the update into it. You can then do a restore and it will load 3.0. From there, you can connect to your machine and sync your stuff back.

ITunes won't play songs or videos!

Hi guys, I just installed iTunes 7.0. Before that I had the must up to date version of 6. Somewhere along the line when I still had version 6.X, iTunes stopped properly playing video. I could either see nothing, or see one scene, and the audio sounded like it was skipping. I could still play songs fine though. After installing the new iTunes, I cannot play video or song files. Whenever I attempt to, I basically just hear the skipping "broken record" sound. I have other media players on my computer, but I set up iTunes to be the primary player. my ipod still plays songs fine.
If anyone can help, please reply! I'm lost.

make sure you have the latest sound driver for your sound card
reinstall quick time
check in the sounds and audio devices in the control pannel under the audio tab that your sound card is set to the default sound playback device

Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past music purchases, delete the broken files from your iTunes library, go to the iTunes Store home page, click on the Purchased link from the Quick Links section in the right-hand column, then select Music and Not on this computer. You should find download links for your tracks there.
If you don't see them straight away it may help to close and restart iTunes.
While downloading select Downloads in the left-hand column and make sure Allow Simultaneous Downloads is unticked.
If the problem persists, or that facility is not yet available in your region, contact the iTunes Store support staff through the report a problem links in your account history, or via Contact Support.

So you have business contacts that were lost... do you not have these on a Database in some shape or form? Sounds like you need to invest in a RAID1 backup setup for your computer so you dont have this issue in the future.
As for repairing your problem, sounds like you are going to need to start from scratch at this point or if the data is still on your phone look into a program that can take the information from the phone onto iTunes.

My nano plays songs, but is otherwisw frozen. won't reset either. seems to sync, but can't change songes etc.

This ipod is new...even though older version. It is 4th generation. Only used 2-3 times. Had worked fine. Loaded new songs on it, now will ocaisionall play songs, but wheel does not work....always seems locked....tried multiple times to reset and that even will not work. PLease help...going on vacation and reall yneed to take this! Thanks for any help!

After installing Windows 7 i am unable to play songs.

After installing 32 bit Windows 7 everytime i play a song it becomes stuck on 0:00, i have gone through all the discussions on the website and have yet to find a solution, i really want to avoid reinstalling itunes.

To anyone who has the same problem, i ended up solving it by updating my sound devices.
After installing Windows 7 the whole computer would not produce any sound. I own a HP laptop so i just went on the HP website and updated the sound devices on my computer which for some off reason furthermore made iTunes play songs again. I dont fully understand the reasons behind this, but it works.

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copy of the track and try redownloading a fresh one. See the following document for instructions:

When I try to recover the password from Apple, it of course wants to send an email to the account I can't get into, and when I try to do the security questions, it says my DOB is incorrect. How can that be wrong?! I am pretty sure I know my exact birthdate. Now I can't listen to a bunch of my music.

Missing Feature: Play Song After Download?

I can't seem to find it (and it won't happen). iTunes 7 will not play a song after I download it. Any ideas?

Go to your prefrence pane and select "Automatically play songs after download" and then close itunes and restart just to make sure it went through.

I googled "mac solitaire" and came up with several free results that should work. Solitaire XL looks decent.
As for running PPC apps, you're out of luck. You can try setting up a virtual machine of Snow Leopard, but that's a bit of work. You can force the app to redownload from the App Store by holding option while you click on your purchases tab, which will make the "install" button clickable.

I get "computer is not authorized to play songs" after I have authorized it many times and every time I try to play one I get the same authorization window. All of the songs were bought a while ago under my old aol email which I have now updated to a new yahoo one. I have repaired disk permissions, authorized over and over as well as reinstalled itunes 7. The songs remain locked and I am not able to even burn a cd. I cant seem to find out a way to unlock those songs to play...Help

My hunch is that you accidentally have two accounts and they both must be authorized on your computer. Fire up iTunes. Go to the Store menu and "Sign Out." Try to play one of the problem songs. A popup window with the account name will appear, asking you to authorize that account.
