Playing songs in a certain order

We're having a 70's party and want to play a game where we play clips of 70's TV shows and people have to guess the song. Is there an easy way to create a playlist that plays in a certain order other than alphabetically? I don't want to do random as we are going to play a few seconds at first, then go back and play the songs for a longer time and want the songs in the same order as the first time.
Thanks!

Whatever order you place the songs in the playlist in iTunes will be reflected with the playlist on the iPhone after syncing. Select and drag/place the songs in whatever order you want the songs to be in the playlist in iTunes followed by a sync.

  • Can i make my ipod play songs in a particular order?  If so, how?

I want to create a playlist that plays song in a specific order, but iTunes seems to only sort the songs by the headings in the playlist, artist, title, song, etc. Can I make it play the songs in the order i want to hear them?

You can drag the songs in a playlist into any order you want. Open iTunes and go to your playlist, click at the top of the number column (far left) to highlight it, click on any song and drag it to the position you want. Once the playlist is how you want it, update the iPod.

My 4G Ipod shuffle does not play songs in the correct order? Already restored to factory settings and no success.. Can anybody help me?

I FINALLY GOT IT! after months of relentless synching/autofilling problems on my 4th generation i figured out the solution.
this is what i did: plugged in ipod on off mode~>manually deleting my ipod's songs~>restored factory settings~>unchecked automatic synch~>made a new playlist with exactly the songs & order i wanted for my ipod (just dragged old playlists into the new one)~>then autofilled that new playlist into my ipod. came out like a charm! (before u autofill UNCHECK random add songs)
my ipod always ended up autofilling/synching my customized playlists wrong or it would automatically do my music library (and that was way unorganized), so this worked.

  • Ipod shuffle not playing songs in a playlists order

I am having a problem with my ipod shuffle after the 7.2 update. when I make a playlist for podcasts to play in a specific order, i copy the podcast to a new playlist and click on the left most column on the numbers. This is supposed to tell the shuffle to sort the list by the numbers and play them in order.... WELL its not doing that, when I sync it to the ipod shuffle the playlists keeps rearraging the podcasts or songs in what ever order it deems. I DO NOT have the shuffle button turned on in itunes nor on the shuffle itself. and in both the ipod shuffle contents tab and the playlist that i dragged over to the shuffle both number columns are marked... so there is no reason that i can see for it not to play in order... Is anyone else having this problem? and if so any ideas on how to correct the problem. THanks for your possible help...

well it should be any problem but incase ther is!!! try visit nearst apple retail/ service centre to do the trouble shooting

  • How can you get the car stereo to play songs on nano in order?

Hi--I just got an ipod nano and connect it to my car stereo via a usb port.  No matter what controls I try (on the car) it just plays songs in alphabetical order of the song (regardless of the album title).  How can I get it to play in the order I want (like one album at a time)?

Mine does. If you can browse by artist, album or song titles, chances are it can brwose through playlists as well. Also make sure that you don't have shuffle selected.
The iPod should play songs in the order that they are listed on the display.

  • ITunes plays songs in the wrong order

For the past few weeks iTunes has insisted on jumping all over the place when playing songs. It plays randomly, but only from the same artist. If I'm playing an album, it doesn't go automatically from track 1 to 2, but seems to select the next track completely randomly.
I've tried sorting the songs by artist, track number, album etc. but the problem persists. Yesterday I downloaded the latest version of iTunes, but that didn't help either.
Thanks in advance for advice and help!

I use iTunes and built in look up as well and it sort my library in album order. However this is assuming you sort the library by artist (click on the artist heading to sort by artist). And then within artist is will sort by album name alphabetically and within each album by album order.
Just checked and if I sort my library by album, albums get listed in alphabetical order but again, within the album it is in album order.
Grace Notes (CDDB) should fill in the track number and total number of tracks for you automatically.
So back to your last question, I am not sure what you mean exactly. Are we talking about sorting the library as a whole or do you mean specifically within Playlists?

  • Need help joining songs to replay in order!!

I listen to classical music which is always split into separate pieces, is there any way that I can join multiple songs so they will play in order even in shuffle? If I can't do that are there any other suggestions what I can do?

    Hey Zhskqqe,
One way to always play a set of songs in a certain order would be to set iTunes to shuffle albums or grouplings. See this article -
iTunes 12 for Mac: Play songs
If the songs are from a CD (not from the iTunes store or another source) you can join all tracks from one CD into a single track. See this article -

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • How do I sort songs in a cetain order in a playlist?

I am trying to make a CD for a bachelorette party and we would like the songs in a certain order?? Is this possible?

This can be done by sorting on the leftmost column (with the numbers).
Then you can drag them at any position you want.
Shuffling for that playlist has to be off.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I get my ipod to play a playlist from reverse order? (Start with recently added song instead of first added)

How do I get my ipod to play a playlist from reverse order? (Start with recently added song instead of first added)
So I'm adding new songs to a very old playlist? Is there anyway that when I add them, they automatically go to top of playlist? How about getting one song to the top of a playlist.  That drag to arrange function is very annoying because it is slow and the playlist does not scroll up very well on a PC.

Make a new playlist by pressing the little plus button at the very lower left corner of iTunes. An new playlist will appear in the Source pane called "untitled playlist". While the name is highlighted, you can change it to whatever you want. Drag all of the tracks from all the albums that comprise a single book to that playlist. Sync that playlist to your iPod.

  • Sometimes when I play songs in Itunes by double clicking on them, Itunes will place the song as the first one on the album.  It will chnage the order of the songs on the album, and I can not switch them back to the correct order.

Sometimes when I play songs in Itunes by double clicking on them, Itunes will place the song as the first one on the album.  It will chnage the order of the songs on the album, and I can not switch them back to the correct order.  This onloy seems to happen when I double-click on the song to play it in itunes.  If I just hit play, this doesnt happen.  As a result, I have several albums now in which the songs are in the wrong order.  Its very frustrating, as this error then transfers over to my ipod every time I sync it.  When I choose the info. for the songs, it has them correctly listed (i.e., it lists the songs as being #1 of 19 on the CD, for example).  But then the song will have placed by Itunes as #5 of 19 for whatever reason.  Itunes does not do this every time, but does it with enough frequency to be maddening.  Any thoughts?

The problem of tracks becoming de-linked between iTunes and the music files in your iTunes music folder happens for different reasons - this seems to come up fairly commonly in this forum.
The solution can be to locate each song in the iTunes library, as you mentioned - or, but wait, before I get to that...
trouble finding the original track in your iTunes music folder? maybe look for it under compilations, or if not using the 'group compilations preference' then look in the folder under the songs artist name, but what song artist name iTunes uses depends on what you have in the metedata tag spot for album artist or song artist. Any varyation in artist name spelling, in the menu item 'get info' metadata for any selected individual track will cause iTunes to create that as a separate artist folder in the library, even names like 'various' or any difference at all (even the word 'the' can change where in your iTunes music folder a track gets placed by iTunes). You can try to use the finder function of find file (finder munu item outside of iTunes) to locate hard to find items.
Back to how to re-link any de-linked tracks .
There may be scripts that can help re-link de-linked music files - or, at least provide you a list of such files, Scripts are easy to install and use...
at Dougs Scripts, there is one called iTunes Track CPR that might work
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=itunestrackcpr
or, if you just want a list of de-linked tracks, go to
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/
and find the script called List MIA's, this will create a text file listing all de-linked tracks

  • Need help: playing songs in order, strangewindow message, upgrading I-Tunes

I have 2 situations I hope someone can help me with:
1: PLAYING SONGS IN ORDER; WINDOW MESSAGE
I have CDs of music that when I load them onto my pc laptop the song names don’t come up—each song lists as “track 01” “track 02” etc.
When I try to play the album thru I-Tunes on my laptop, the songs won’t play in order. i.e. ALL the “track 02”s will play before going to “track 03,” then ALL the “track 03”s will play, etc. So I made a playlist of each CD.
Now when I try to play the Playlist, I get a window message that says, “The song “Track 01” could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?” I can choose ‘yes’ or ‘cancel.’ YES takes me to folder selections. I find the song and click on it and then it plays.
There must be an easier way. I don’t want to search for each song one at a time in order to play an entire CD in order.
    2: UPGRADE
I need to upgrade. I have I-TUNES 7.0.2. I went online to apple.com and couldn’t find any upgrade option, so I clicked on “download I-tunes”. I got a window that says “download complete.” But how do I tell if it’s really installed? Where do I go on my computer to see what version number it shows?
    Any help is appreciated,
    Carolyn in Las Vegas

    2. Help->About iTunes
    1. You have done something that has confused iTunes about the location of the files in its library. Without knowing what happened, it's hard to make a specific recommendation, but if you moved your files around manually, move them back, and then, if you want to change the location, do it only by setting it in iTunes preferences and then using Consolidate Library.

I have 160gb of music on my Classic, 6th Gen (I think) I've just bought it. Is it possible for it to play my songs in a random order, one or two from different albums?

To add to what Stonerock has mentioned, you can either create Playlists in your iTunes Library, containing exactly what you want, and then Sync them to your iPod, or you can use the iPod Classic's On-The-Go feature.
Reading between the lines, I'm going to assume for now that you want to be able to create your preferred listening list while "out and about" - so not near your iTunes library. (You have posted in iPod Classic, after all.) You can do this with the On-The-Go Playlist.
Look in the Playlists menu on the iPod. It probably contains the Recently Added, Recently Played and other pre-made Playlists that you see in your iTunes Library. At the bottom of the Playlists list, is the On-The-Go showing 0 Songs. Scroll down to it and press the Select (centre) button. The screen will give you instruction on adding songs to the On-The-Go Playlist.
Basically, if you press-and-hold the Select (centre) button, while highlighting a song, the song title will blink as it is added to the On-The-Go Playlist. Try it, then go back to Playlists/On-The-Go and notice that it will now say 1 Song. (Note, you cannot add a "now playing" song to the On-The-Go Playlist.) Repeat this for every song you want to have in the list. You can also look in the Albums menu, highlight the album title and press-and-hold that to add the complete album to your On-The-Go Playlists with one press. So if you add the two albums to your On-The-Go Playlist, you can then listen to just those two albums.
To shuffle the songs, turn on Shuffle on your iPod. Either, go into Settings/Shuffle and press the Select button to toggle between Off/Songs/Albums, or on the Now Playing screen, press the Select button three times to reach the Shuffle option, where you use the scroll wheel to move between Off/Songs/Albums, press the Select button to activate it.
Having added songs to the On-The-Go Playlist, go into it and notice the list of songs and options to Save Playlist (New Playlist 1) or Clear Playlist. If you use Sync to manage your iPod (and that really is the best way by the way), the next Sync will transfer any unsaved On-The-Go and any New Playlist Xs that you have, back to your iTunes Library. You can even remove any song from the current On-The-Go Playlist by highlighting it (in the On-The-Go, obviously) and press-and-holding the Select button.
If you need assistance in creating a Playlist in your iTunes Library, please ask.

  • 30gb video iPod is playing songs out of order.

I have a 30gb Video iPod (4 or 5 years old).  It has suddenly started playing album tracks in the wrong order.  When I look at the album track listing, the songs are the correct order, but it won't play them that way.  It's always in a different, arbitrary order.  Please help!  Thanks in advance.

First, try doing a Reset to restart the iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1320
If that does not help, and this problem only affects ONE album, and this album's songs are seen as having the correct Track # information in iTunes, what I would do is delete just this album from the iPod.  Then, add it back.  If there is some corrupted data on the iPod related to the album's song order, this should fix it.
If it's happened to all albums (or many albums) on the iPod, I would do a Restore on the iPod using iTunes.  Select the iPod in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES.  Over to the right, go to the Summary tab.  Click the Restore button.  This will erase the iPod, reinstall its software, and set it to default settings.

  • Playing songs out of order

Recently and for no apparent reason my NANO began playing songs out of order in my playlists. It happens on all playlists. It doesn't jump from list to list just changes the order within the list itself. It is shuffling the songs because it if you view the playlist that is playing the songs are in the correct order, it just skips around.

Your shuffle setting on the iPod is probably changed from OFF to "Songs" which will cause the iPod to shuffle any playlist you play on the iPod. Go to main menu of the iPod -> Settings and check.
