Playing Songs in Library

How do I set iTunes to shuffle through all the songs in my library, and not just the ones that I still have checked off to be on my iPod? When I'm listening on my computer, I want iTunes to include all the songs when it is playing, not just the ones with the blue checkmarks.

In iTunes, there is a button on the lower left hand corner. Its the one next to the plus sign. That's the shuffle button. Once you have that on, all the songs on the Library will be played randomly. You can check that button for your playlists too so they will play randomly.

Playing songs in library on desktop computer - songs won't auto advance

OK, I realize that this might rank right up thee under all time dumb questions...
I am sitting at my desktop computer and just want music playing from my Library in the background. A single song plays, and it doesn't automatically shuffle to a new song. I have to manually go into my Library list, double click a song to play, the single song plays, and stops. Also, while the song is playing, I cannot advance to a new song - it just plays that song and won't advance to a new song.
My acutal Ipod is actually working fine - no issues.

Playing songs in library that were downloaded from CDs

When I try to play songs in the library that I have downloaded from CDs, I get the following message: "The song could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" If I say "yes", then it leads me to the song in the the ITunes folder and it will play it from that file, but it will not play direct from the library without leading thru this process. This only happens with songs downloaded from CDs and not from songs purchased thru the Music Store. This problem also doesn't allow me to move those songs to a playlist. Any idea how to somehow get the Library to recognize these songs location??? Thanks for any help.

If you are not using iTunes Match, then you have to sync the songs to your iPhone. Please have a look into this one:

With iTunes Match (a paid 1-year-subscription) you can upload them into the iCloud and download them directly to the new iPhone.

Computer was playing songs from Library but will not now? only 2 computers authorized

My itunes has played songs from my library since I had it. All the sudden it will not anymore. Only have 2 computers authorized.

ITunes Not Playing songs in library

Help!! In iTunes all the songs listed under the category of "playlists" will not play. I keep clicking on the play icon and nothing happens. BUT, if I go to the "music" category under "Library", I can click on any item and it will play just fine.
I have reinstalled iTunes and tried several other hints from the FAQ section of the support for iTunes page. Anyone have any ideas?

Have you moved your music around? Sounds like it's been moved and is not where iTunes expects to find it.

Problem playing songs from library

I have a few songs that I downloaded into my library. When I played them after downloading it was fine. ipod is synced, and songs play on ipod. But now i try to play them on my library and it won't play. I double click, nothing, I right click and press play, nothing.
Does anyone have an idea why it won't play on library from computer?

Just to make sure; have you tried highlighting the song and then pressing the Play button, instead of double-clicking? Sometimes double-clicking actually causes the "rename song" feature to appear, although you should notice that this has happened.
If it isn't that, then I don't know what else it could be, apart from a computer problem.

I can't play the song in my library bec they can't find the original file which i can play before may be I try to import mp 3 which couple song from mp3 can play but the song that come from original cd or purchase from itune store can't play

iTunes doesn't import it INTO the Library, it keeps it in it's original place and just adds the song into it, try and find them again and re-add them into your library.

Itunes on Windows plays one song from library and stops

I am a new ipod owner and new to itunes. Loaded many CD's, videos and audiobooks without difficulty into itunes 6.0.4.2. Library of songs is extensive but trying to play songs from library results in itunes playing ONLY one selected song. I must re-select another song in order to play another. It will not continue to play the songs in the library. I have re-installed itunes and that did not correct the problem. Also tried selecting multiple songs and still itunes only plays the 1st song of the list. Obviously I've done something wrong or have not done something that is required. I've check all I know and have also not found this problem in the discussion groups. What am I doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

This'll happen when all of the checkboxes are unchecked. iTunes will only play unchecked songs if they are directly clicked.
To check all songs, ctrl+check one.

Itunes 7 not playing songs AGAIN

I thought I had solved this problem earlier today, but here it is again. Progress bar doesn't even work. Won't play songs in library or on disk. I suppose if I restart the computer it will work (as it did last time) but surely I don't have to keep doing that?! Any ideas?

My problem has to do with playing my music on iTunes on my PC separate of my iPod.
I will start a song sequence in shuffle or not in shuffle mode and after two or three, maybe four songs iTunes will cease playing songs. I will try another song in iTunes. Nothing starts. I played a music video successfully but when I went back to my song list, nothing played. I finally had to exit iTunes and launch it again for the music to play.
So, what's up? Does anyone know?

Cyndi6858, help is here! We'd be happy to help figure this out. Just to be sure though, the Droid Maxx should not have an SD card. Is this the Droid Razr Maxx? How did you add the music to the device? Are you able to see the files and folders located on the SD card or device when plugged in?

How do I stop ITunes from loading every song I play into my library from an external hard drive?

Mac OS X: Double-Clicking a File Opens the Wrong Application - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2291
-= Changing the application used to open all files of a certain kind (written with reference to OSX 10.4 but may not have changed) =-
1) In a Finder window highlight a file of the kind you want to change the application to open that kind of file.
2) While that file is highlighted, select File > Get Info or press command (apple or propeller icon) + i to get a file information window.
3) In the lower part of the info window there is an "open with" menu with a list of applications.
4) If your application is already in the box then it is the default application for opening that kind of file and you don't need to do anything more. Close the get info window.
5) If the application showing in the menu is not the one with which you wish to open the file then select a new application. If your application does not appear there then select the "other..." and track down the application (usually in the Applications folder at the main level of the computer).
6) If you wish to change all files of this type to open with this application in future, make sure the "change all" button is selected.
7) Close the get info window.

I had my iTunes library on my old Dell Inspiron, transferred all info to my new HP Pavilion PC, downloaded iTunes and my library is there, but when I try to play songs, it says can't play because can't locate the original files...how can I activate the songs to play? The iTunes library is also in my Windows media file, and the songs will play in there, but I set iTunes as my default music manager and want the songs activated in my iTunes library so I can play them and sync my iPod. This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .
