Playing sound from the mic input

I'm running my turntable through a mixer and then running the line level signal into the mic input on my macbook. It sounds fine when I record the sound, but I can't seem to get it to play sound live.
I used to do this on my pc by Muting and un-Muting the mic or line-in input, but on the macbook this doesn't seem to work.
What am I doing wrong?

I guess I should add that the mixer is showing normal volume levels and when I run Audacity, the volume levels are normal. I just want to convert my input from "recording only" to playback.

    Hi all,
Recently I was watching youtube video on the laptop and the sound from speakers just gone! Just like someone disconnect the speakers, sound silly, I know
I restarted the the laptop then, but speakers are still not giving any sound at all. I can only hear the sound coming through the connected headphones.  I checked all the drivers and everything seem to be fine. Here is a screen shoot from device manager:

  • I can't get any sound from ITunes. The computer's internal speakers are fine (they play utube sound, for example). And the sound bar on itunes is all the way to the right. Still no sound from the music library. Any insights?

I can't get any sound from my ITunes library. The IMac is set to internal speakers, the volume bar on ITunes itself is all the way to the right, there seems to be no problem with the speakers themselves (they play sound from internet videos, for example), but I can't play music from the ITunes library on the IMac. Please help!

    Hi,
    Try the following.
First, download the Flash uninstall utility on the link below and save it to your Desktop.
    Flash Player Uninstaller.
When the download has completed, close all browser windows and run the uninstaller.  After this has completed, restart the notebook.
Next, download and install Firefox and then using Firefox, download and install the latest version of Adobe Flash.
Close all browser windows before running the Flash installer.
Launch Firefox and see if Youtube videos etc play Ok - if they do, close Firefox, open IE and click on the same Adobe Flash link above to get a prompt to install the ActiveX component.  When done, restart IE.

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.
    Apple - iPod Repair price

  • Recording sound from the PC

I am currently running a mixer into the front audio input jack on my PC, and have all external stuff (mic, mini disk, etc) coming through that.
Am I able to set up audition so that it can also record sound from the PC. For example, if I want to grab audio from a you tube video, or have an online voice chat or something enabled, can I open audition and record it? I have tried, but not been successful. My only idea is having to run the audio out of the PC, into a channel in the mixer, and then back into the PC with everything else.
    Any help?

  • Playing sound from multiple applications?

Hi, I recently started using Arch and I'm loving it but I have one problem. My ALSA can only play sound from one application at a time, so I have to use pulseaudio for the others. • Capturing sound from the soundcard

    Hello,
Does Audition make it possible to capture the sound from the sound card?
I don't want to record a sound using a microphone, I want to save the sound which is played on the sound card.
    Regards

Assumption: You are trying to record using the internal sound card in your computer.
Right click on the speaker in the task bar (normally lower right of the screen).
    Select "Open Volume Control".
In the "Volume Control" application in the menu select "Properties" from the "Options" menu.
Click on the "Recording" radio button and hit "OK".
This will bring you to the "Recording Control" dialog box. Check the
    "Stereo Mix" radio button.
On most computers this will change input for Audition v3 to listen to the output of the sound card.
Note1: Make sure you are using "ASIO4ALL" or "Audition 3.0 Windows Sound" or you won't hear or record anything because two applications can't use most standard ASIO sound drivers at the same time.
Note2: Make sure you change it back to "Microphone" or you won't be able to record using the computers internal sound card.

  • No Sound from USB Mic

I can't get sound from my mic. I have my guitar plugged in and have sound from it but not the mic. I tried setting up an aggregate device but it didn't work. When on my sound screen I have input volume from the mic but still no output. I only have one choice for my output and that is headphones. What am I doing wrong?

Hi moxie39, I have been fighting with my Snowball USB mic and read your post. I made an aggregate device that consists of the USB mic and output as you mentioned (I also tried USB mic and built-in-input), but I cannot change in the LE8 preferences to a different device. It doesn't give me an option to change it to an aggregate device only a built-in-mic and built-in-input, neither of which work. Any suggestions from you or from anyone?

  • No sound from the TV when using HDMI cable, No sound from the TV when using HDMI cable

I recently purchased HDMI cable and adaptor, so that I can play downloads from my Macbook Air on my TV. There is only sound from the Macbook, not the TV - Do I need as separate cable for sound?

I've got the same issue: when I connect my Macbook Air (2011) to TV via HDMI cable there's no sound through the TV system, only from the Macbook Air. I used to use my older Macbook Pro with the same HDMI adapter and it worked just fine, but not with the Macbook Air it doesn't.
My software is up to date. I tried to select the TV as an output option in sound preferences, but it doesn't yield any results.
Rebooding multiple times doesn't help either.
Any suggestions on how to tackle this problem?
    Thanks in advance.
