Playing the DVD on VLC player
Hi there
I have authored a dvd in dvd studio pro and it has to play on PCs. Since it is very copy heavy it looks really crappy when played in WMP. Someone suggested i include vlc player on the dvd to play off and indeed the quality is great. it however jumps from one scene to the other and does not play in sequence, while in all the other players it plays in the correct sequence but worse quality
anyone have any ideas?

my advice to all my clients is to never use windows media player for playing DVD video
the results are very poor if the video plays at all.
the user must install a separate decoder for MPEG 2 video that is compatable with windows media player. Most users will not have the patience, ability or resources to do this
Many users will be viewing the DVD on networked computers which will not allow users to install or change local configurations
If the user has a DVD drive, it will be much simpler to use the supplied DVD software player that will be installed on the computer already

There are many reasons this could be the case but whether an optical disc can be read or not is a function of:
The reflective media layer of the disc
Whether the burned disc was a DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW
The brand, model, and production lot of the disc
The specific frequency of the Write lasers that burned the disc
The specific frequency of the Read lasers that are attempting to read the disc
Are the Read lasers in the drive working (it is common for one set of lasers in a drive to fail while others continue to work)
How old are the Write and Read drives (laser frequencies change with age)
Is there dust on the read laser
Is there dust on the read lens
etc.
At one time it was estimated that fewer than 80% of all burned discs were readable in 90% of the drives. That has, I believe improved over time but at the same time it seems the faillure rate of lasers in the drives has increased but that may simply be the result of how many different read and write lasers there are in today's superdrives. Fortunately todays drives are a lot less expensive the replace -- now that Apple no longer installs optical drives in their computers. -
Ive used compressor and then tried to put it in dvdsp put its not working. I am having problems with the audio or when i burn it , i cant play the dvd? any help would be appreciated
I suspect you are attempting to burn an HD DVD, which will not play on a DVD player...
But if you provide more details such as the settings you are applying in Compressor, then we would be able to provide you more accurate information.
How are you adding the files to Compressor?
In FCP, what are your footage properties (command-9) and sequence settings (command-0) -
I got a new Macbook Pro and a Superdrive when i put in a DVD it reads it and puts a dick icon with the DVD name when i open that i have the auido and video folders but cant play the DVD anyone know why.

I have a Macbook Air (july 2012) with OS X 10.8.3 installed. I have dvds with .vob files and have Quicktime Version 10.2 (603.12). I can't play the DVDs. There are some features of QT that I like, e.g. precise frame selection and save as .png file-help. Am I missing some Apple software? I thought QT for Mountain Lion could convert the .vob files - is there some setting that I have missed?

I have a mid 2007 iMac (Model A1224 iMac 7,1) and the internal superdrive audio cd won't play, the DVD works. Can I purchase an external cd drive that will work with my iMac?

The best option is to take the Mac to an Apple Store and get the Mac's SuperDrive repaired -

when i insert a dvd into my drive, my iDVD attempts to play the dvd, but ultimately the dvd is automatically ejected. HELP!

After completing the Burn process, I tried to play the same DVD to the same computer, but did not recognized the DVD media. It worked ok on the DVD player connected to my TV. I've been burning DVD for a quite a awhile, this is the first time it happened.

This usually depends on
• BURN SPEED - not set down to x2 or max x4 - BEST IS N OT BEST - it gives max burn errors = BAD DVD
• Brand of DVD used - MeMorex, NoName etc are known problem makers - I only use Verbatim
• Type of DVD used - DVD+/-RW and DVD+R and DL-DVDs - can give a variety of problems - I only use SL-DVD-R
• Low free space on the Start-Up (Macintosh HD) Hard Disk - also gives bad result
- interlaced SD-Material (as on old CRT-TV (tube)) - I never go less than 25Gb
- HD-material - then 4 - 5 times more seems to be a good safe minimum.

Volume increases suddenly during the playing *.mkv file in VLC player
I watched video in *.mkv by using VLC, when video has reached particular moment, the volume (not in VLC) increased from ~20% to ~75%.
This is not VLC's volume, I don't know how to name it correctly, it's volume that I see when I wrote "alsamixer" in terminal.
I replay this video again, and in the same moment, the same thing with volume occurred.
How to avoid it?
At least, I'd like to set some "maximum", because when volume sets to 75% it's become terrible loud.

Test the file using mplayer2. What type of video are you watching? If it's having ordered chapters, then vlc doesn't support ordered chapter properly.
ps: it should be .mkv instead of .mvk
I've just tested this file in gnome-media player, this problem didn't occurred (!). So, it seems like VLC problem.
The video doesn't have chapters. This file is 3rd series of some tv-show. The previous two was ok (without volume problem).

I did this settings, but it didn't help.
Also, I've tried to replay this video a few times, and found that volume increases in random moment, usually in the beginning. VLC's volume was still the same.

I am having problems with my DVD tray. It is not moving in and out like it used to and now making LOTS of noises and won't play DVD after it closes. Please help
That is correct.....It is not mine it is my daughter's . When she tried to put the DVD in it will not go in easily and then once it is in the computer it will not play.

THE WORDS IN MY TITLES...... AREN'T SHOWING UP WHEN I PLAY THE DVD's ON TV!
I'm using two different title windows....LOWER THIRD & UPPER. The words show up fine on the computer but in playing the completed DVD's in the DVD player, the LOWER THIRD bottom line and the UPPER only line, aren't appearing on the TV screen. I'm using iMovie'09. Can this be corrected without starting all over again???

Play the DVD - no arrow to move between buttons

I've burned a DVD usung encore.
It a very simple menu with few buttons. I set the buttons as "chapters" in the properties.
In the project preview in encore I can choose using the mouse each chapter button
But when I put the DVD in the DVD player - I cant choose any button - the arrows in the remote control doesnt influence as well
only if I choose 1/2/3...etc the chapter will be played.
Please your help what is wrong?Who can send me a sample button on PSD file
You should have a full Library of Menus (plus individual components), and I would just Open one of the Library Menus, so that you can see the full Button structure. They are Layer Sets, but with very specific naming conventions. Even when building a Menu in Photoshop, from scratch, I keep one of those handy, just to make sure that I do not forget anything in the Buttons' structure.
Just Open one of those Menus, and make sure that your Layers Palette is open too.

I have created a DVD via iMovie and burned several copies. It is a large file. When played the some DVD's will stop and display a message SKIPPING DAMAGED Part but will not resume. Some work fine. It is not the DVD. I have burned from several batches. When trying to export the project, I get an error message with the following message: The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occured (-108).
TV video typically is copyrighted content. We'd be breaking several rules trying to help you. Good luck!

Cannot play my DVD on any player
I have been trying to produce a DVD of my art using iphoto, then imovie and then idvd but I could not get the quality I am looking for, all of them vame out pixelized when you play it on a DVD player So I bought Final cut Studio and created a slideshow on DVD studio pro, it looked great so I burned a DVD and tested it on my Mac and it worked perfectly,
BUT when I try to play it on a DVD player it gets kiked out of the player, I have tried all different formats, quality and and after burning 20 DVDs that do not work on any DVD player I just do not know what to do. I have spent a fortune just to get this DVD to work with no joy.
PLEASE COULD SOMEONE HELP ME GIVE ME THE FORMAT DETAILS I NEED TO GET THIS RIGHT.

You probably authored a HD DVD and those just play in your MAc, not in standard DVD players. Check your disc properties in DVDSP:

You must select SD DVD to play in standard players.

Mediabox not finding all media
I'm not sure why, but mediabox only finds some of my music. For instance, one band i have 7 albums of but it's only picking up 4 of them. Instinctiv and the default player pick everything up, but mediabox for some reason is missing a bunch of stuff.
