Playing video back through iMovie

This question could also be posted for any version of iMovie. It's not deal breaker, just really annoying.
When I play back video shot off of my new Canon HDV 1080i, the video works fine, but the audio doesn't play through my computer. I have to open the little viewfinder "door" of the camera, so that I can hear the audio played back through the camera speaker. That's fine, except the audio and video aren't in sync, and are off for a few seconds.
Once I import it, I can play it back fine through my iMac speakers, its just when previewing the tape from the camera through the iMac if that makes sense.
Any idea what the problem could be?

It seems as if the camera just wasn't compatible. I'm buying a new one.

  • Photobooth not playing video back

    Hi, so I just upgraded from Lion to Mountain Lion.
    I recorded a video in Photobooth, but when I tried to play it back, all I got was a blank, black screen and no audio either.
    Photographs are fine, it's just videos.
    I tried opening the video in iMovie and it played just fine, so I guess there's something wrong with Photobooth.
    This problem has only arisen after I updated from Lion to Mountain Lion.
    Is there anyone else experiencing the same/similar problem?
    Apple please fix this/tell me what I'm doing wrong..

    Maybe you should take your question to the Mountain Lion forum. Photo Booth video and audio working just fine for me running 10.8.

  • Playing videos back to back in itunes

    hello, I am trying to to play my videos through itunes, without having to click each video after one is done.
    is there a way to sort of watch your videos as a sort of 'slideshow' . I know this isnt a big deal, but I figured there HAS to be a way to do that---it seems pretty basic, but I'm stumped.

    Okay, thanks to another topic & message in this board (sorry, can't find it again), I have a kinda solution:
    Put the video-playback-setting to "play videos fullscreen"; then they will play continuously.
    I think we don't have to understand this ...

  • ITunes won't play video bought through iTunes Store

    A little while ago my computer died. I had backed up my itunes files individually, and when I recieved my new computer I dragged the files into the library. The songs work perfectly, but the TV shows which I purchased from iTunes Store will not play whatsoever, even though they are in the library.
    When I try to drag them onto my itouch, I get the message, "Title" was not copied to iPod because it cannot be played on this iPod. A couple, but not all of the videos, will crash itunes when I try to play them. At one point I tried 'Create an iPod or iPhone version', but when I did I would first get a message saying 'This application can not be used to play this content. In order to play this content, please open it with iTunes.' and then the message 'Error occurred while converting the file. An unknown error occurred (-50). I also have tried deauthorizing and then authorizing my computer, but it did not work.
    Any ideas?

    I'm using Acer Aspire 4730Z, Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, Pentium(R) Dual-Core. I've got Firefox 6 installed on my laptops and i cant play all the videos uploaded through Facebook and Vimeo. But there's no problem loading Youtube videos. Please help!

    Have you tried on another computer? If it doesn't work there it is a site issue.

  • Trying to play Garageband back through Piano

    Is this possible? I have my keyboard set up so that whatever I play goes through Garageband. This works perfectly fine, I can use Garageband as a sort of synthesizer like I want. Now I'm wondering if there's anyway I can use the MIDI In port on my keyboard to make the sounds play back through my piano instead of my laptop speakers. Anybody have any suggestions?
    I've tried using midiO, but the instruction for that set-up is for an outdated version of Garageband. I'm under the impression that you can no longer access "further Details" for instrument tracks.

  • How do i play video simultaneously through airplay and on iPhone

    Hi, I'm currently using an iPhone 5 with iOS 7.1.2, and i require playback of video via AirPlay to a projector from here and it works perfectly fine with a wifi plug-in bought separately. However, i wish to have playback on both the projector screen and my iPhone, but iPhone only shows a TV-out screen. My teacher says it could be a mechanism to help the phone save on energy during playback by choosing to only play the video through AirPlay and not on the iPhone Called Apple Support but i didn't really get the answer that i needed. Will this problem be solved if i used an Apple TV instead? Or are there existing third-party apps available that will help me achieve my desired effect?

  • Solution for transferring and playing  video/movies through HDMI

    This solution is for those of you who want to actually USE the HDMI out on your droid X!
    I will explain after the instructions what movies will work and what will not (FYI - on my PC I am using Windows 7 but this also supports Mac and my Droid X has not been rooted):
    1) Download and install the Miro Video Converter (its free)  http://www.mirovideoconverter.com/
    2) Drag and drop the video you want into the converter. It will convert AVI, H264, FLV, MOV, WMV, XVID, MKV and Theora to mp4.
    3) When choosing the device to convert to, choose IPAD. ***DO NOT CHOOSE DROID - IT WILL NOT WORK***
    4) By default the converter will drop the mp4 file into the same directory as your original movie file.
    5) Connect your Droid X via USB. Set your USB to mass storage mode under notifications.
    6) Copy the video file to the DCIM\camera folder. After copy you can unmount your phone.
    7) Once your phone remounts the SD card (mine takes a couple seconds), go to your Gallery app. You will now see the videos you copied and can play them. Choose the HDMI option onscreen to kick out to HDMI (you may have to hit the play button that comes up onscreen after going to HDMI)
    ***REASONS WHY A CONVERSION MAY NOT WORK***
    1) The droid x only outputs 2 CH audio, so your source file and converted file must also be 2 channel audio. This means you have to make sure you are converting a dvd to 2 channel stereo BEFORE converting it through miro. You will get video but no audio if your audio source is not compatible. you cannot convert multi channel surround into two channel through Miro.
    2) If you choose to use another converter other than miro, make sure you convert video using mp4/h264 and AAC for audio. you cannot just drag an avi or wmv file into your droid x, it doesnt have the supported codecs to play it.
    3) make sure the HDMI out is ON (under settings/hdmi)
    4) you have to make sure your Gallery can see the file - there are other directories that may work - I just chose the one when my Droid X was dropping movies I recorded.
    I hope this helps everyone that actually wants to USE their HDMI output!

    Nice information,,,,   BUT wouldn't it be easier to just use DVD Catalyst?  I use it now and the vidoes I have made with it using Motorola Droid default stiings works flawlessly with my HDMI cable, I use my Droid as my own portible DVD Player to play on others tvs when I visit.

  • Suddenly can't play video content through iTunes

    My Dell laptop is running Windows 7. I've had this laptop for 3+ years and I've always been able to play movies and TV shows on it through iTunes. Today I redeemed a code for the Iron Man 3 digital download and the movie wouldn't play. In fact, no video will play, but music will.
    I updated iTunes to 11.1, but it didn't solve the issue. I've read some of the articles about issues with playing HD movies on Windows 7 computers, but 1) I've always been able to watch HD content through iTunes on this laptop, and 2) some of the TV episodes I have are only SD...they won't play now, either.
    Thoughts?

    After upgrading to iTunes 11.1 on Windows 7 x64, none of the HD movies I've purchased will play. I've never had any issues with these movies prior to upgrading to iTunes 11.1.

  • Premier Elements 8 not playing video back

    I was having trouble running Premier Elements 7 due to a Wave_Warp issue. Program would not even load so I ran out and bought the latest ugrade verion 8. I uninstalled version 7, installed version 8 on my Windows 7 2GHZ laptop and boy am I disapointed.
    I created a new project, imported standard MOV video files to the time line, hit play and NOTHING, NADA.. the playhead won' move. Tried MP3 files, different other kinds of clips, same result. The only way I can get it to move is by dragging it. What a piece of crap. I need to make a video, and I've spend most of my day hunting the forums unsuccessfully for reasons why my old version of Premier Elements wouldn't start up, now this.
    I will be taking this software back to the store in search of a full and complete refund.

  • Keynote4.0.1  does not play videos imported from Imovie

    I have exported a film from Imovie (web-quality) to play in a keynote-presentation.
    With Tiger all things went well, but with leopard, the slide with the movie is not shown anymore... nothing to see, the screen stays black...
    any idea?

    I'm having the same problem with quicktimes that come from another source (in photojpeg codec). I noticed that some movies worked, and others did not. The ones that worked were in the H.264 codec, so I used Quicktime Pro to Export my PhotoJPEG compressed quicktime movies into H.264 compressed movies, and those playback correctly in Keynote 08 under Leopard.

    I have Windows Media Player installed on my PC workstation and I do remember installing a codec so that MP4 files could play in WMPlayer 11 on Windows Vista 64-bit (should work on 32-bit also)

    Otherwise if you're posting videos on a webpage for example in the mp4 format use the Quicktime html wrapper so that people using Mac's can also view your videos that are encoded for PC's.  If you encode in wmv format (Windows Media Video) then provide a link to the "Flip4Mac" application that can use Quicktime on the Mac to play Windows Media Files.  I think you can find it on www.mactopia.com .

  • Macbook (Late 2006) w/ 10.6.7 crashing when playing video

    Lately, my computer has been crashing while I am playing video either through an external display or with just my computer.  A grey screen with multiple languages flashes across the screen and tells me to force shut down.  Also, the the video freezes and audio loops and freezes.  This happens while I am playing videos online or videos on my hard drive.  My gut tells me my computer is getting overheated. 
    I have a late 2006 macbook w/ 2 gb memory running the newest version of Snow Leopard.

    It is all about video, I can run some pro app like logic but I have a lot of <kernel panic> when I stream video files, youtube or whatever, it freezes and and then kernel panic. Fans : 6200rtm / T° : 75° celcius / vram saturated

    I use Airport mainly and it looks like it is not helping.
    I think this is an issu with adobe flash stuff, but Adobe developers defend themselves by saying that it's Apple that is too closed and not giving them enough information so they can improve their technology and fix bugs. Thank you guys that is not helping.

  • Creating a video podcast with iMovie?

    Can I create a video podcast through iMovie? I was planning on recording audio and inserting photos to go along, then Share -> iPod. Will that work?

    I would recommend Podcast Maker. I used it for my audio podcast; I've not done video podcasting but it does say that it handles .mov files.
    Once you have your media files sorted, Podcast Maker will do the rest. You enter the server details, and the descriptions and so on, and the locations on your Mac of the media files; it will then in one go write the feed, and upload it and the files to your server. It writes good clean rss and you shouldn't have any problems. Obviously you will need to study their instructions first, but it's not too complicated.

    If you want an associated web site you will need to construct it yourself, using links to the media files once they've been uploaded.
    If you feel the temptation to get involved with FeedBurner or similar services I would advise resisting it: they work most of the time but if there is a problem (and I've seen a lot come up in this forum) it's almost impossible to sort it out. It's also pretty well impossible to move the feed to a different URL.
