Playing Windows Games on IMac

Hey guys, i'm a complete noob here so bear with me.
I am going to be buying a 20 Inch IMac in the summer or maybe even a 24 inch depending on the answer to the following questions:
Can the 24 inch IMac with the 7300 graphics card play Windows games (Bf2, half life 2, Armed assault) WELL with a certain program and what is the program?
Sorry if i seem arrogant, i have been searching a while to find somewhere for support, if you could answer these 2 questions and provide links that would be great.
I am tired of windows and it's constant failing, help me switch over to Mac.

Right now, Bootcamp burns you a CD with Windows drivers; not all the drivers are suitable for Vista yet, so some devices in your Mac will not work properly if booted into Vista. Consequently, it is recommended that if you use Bootcamp at this time, you should not attempt to install Vista, but rather you should use Windows XP SP2 instead. Presumably, at some future date, drivers that work with Vista will become available.
I don't know if you're understanding that Bootcamp does not run Windows. All it does is create a Windows partition on your hard drive and burn a CD of drivers for Windows. At that point, Bootcamp's work is done.
After that, then you grab your Windows install CD and install Windows on your Mac, just as you would do with any old Dell or Toshiba. Then your Mac can boot into Windows and be just like any other Windows PC.
You really should go to the Bootcamp forum and talk to people who actually have done it.

  • Playing Windows games on Mac Pro?

I'm giving my son my Mac Pro 3,1 2.8 gig dual quad core machine. He wants to play Windows games on it. How does one set that up? Also, he wants to upgrade the video card to the ATI 5770. Does he buy the one for Apple or Windows, and does he need special drivers? I'm getting a new Mac Pro 12 core. Thanks.

you will want Windows 7 Pro 64-bit (System Builder is fine, $139)
    Radeon 6870 3DMark 30% gain on 5870
ATI Radeon HD 5870 Graphics Upgrade

To see early startup you want an Apple compliant card. To play games you may be fine or want something more, depends on game and what level of performance.
You install Apple drivers and all the normal Windows gpu and other drivers.

Ah, didn't you already try or install Windows? seems like you did at least try? No?

  • Playing windows games on my iMac?

I have a pretty good iMac I bought it about 18 months so it's not the brand new one it has 8 gig memory and I have just installed mavericks. I am getting frustrated that I can't buy a lot of the games I see advertised. I really want to buy Skyrim but it won't run on a mac I have been told to buy parallels but before I spend the money does it allow you to play the top windows games? I assume I will have to buy windows 8 as we'll so just wanted to ask before I fork out about £130

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Don't use apps like Parallels if you want to play games.
The first thing you should check is your iMac model, so open  > About this Mac > More Info. Then, check which Windows versions you can install in this website > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
As your iMac is recent, you should be able to install Windows 7 and 8, both in 64-bit. You have to buy a full Windows version.
To install Windows, Apple provides you the Boot Camp Assistant (in /Applications/Utilities), which guides you through the steps. Follow these steps to install Windows > http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1636/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_ 10.8.pdf
Remember to install the most recent drivers for your GPU in Windows

  • Playing PC games on iMac

As a complete newcomer to apple, I'm struggling to load my kids Sims games onto the new computer. Is it possible? Do I need a patch? Or do I need a whole lot of new games just for the mac? Please tell me its not the latter.

If you have an Intel Mac you can set up Bootcamp and run the PC games under the Windows system. I tried VM Fusion but the Windows games, Command & Conquer and Call of Duty, were not playable - even with a 2.8 iMac with 4 GB of ram. I had Vista Ultimate on the Windows partition and ended up putting XP on it since it ran smoother. Finally just rebased the entire system with Leopard and set up Bootcamp with Vista Ultimate. Games play great. I am not aware of any patches or emulators that will allow you to play your PC games directly on a Mac OS.

  • Windows games on iMac 2.4 w/bootcamp

Does anyone have any information about the following running under Windows XP/VISTA under bootcamp on a new iMac 2.4?
    2Moons
    Guild Wars
    WOW

I had posted this question for a friend who is considering a switch. I'm a long time Mac user myself but he is hesitant. I see lots of views but no posts to my questions. Is it really true then that you wouldn't want to consider a Mac as a game machine even now with the Intel chipsets? If he really wants to be able to play these games then should he stick with a strictly windows only platform?

  • How can I play Windows games that require CD on mac mini bootcamp?

    Hey!
So have a brandnew optical drive-less mac mini, and have Windows 7 installed as bootcamp partition. Want to play a game on the Windows side but it requires a CD be in the drive to play - which, obviously, I don't have. I tried Carbon Copy Cloner to a USB stick - it worked for the installation but not the game play. Any suggestions how I get an image to mount that the Windows Bootcamp will recognize? Is it possible to mount the CD as a shared disk on my G5 elsewhere on my network or should I just stick to Daemon Tools or MagicISO stuff on Windows. If the latter - how do I get the data from a USB stick mounted as a disk image then (do I need to copy it to the local, then create a disk image and then copy to that image for example?)
I can see this is going to be a problem for all sorts of other things I still have "legacy" I can see so any help on this will carry forward, thanks.

Yeah, I know, but the whole idea of moving away from disks isn't such a bad one - so I'm wondering if I can implement it someway - I have the original copy disks so it's not about pirating them to play games but ripping them the right way so they work... hmmm.

  • Anyway to Play Video Games on IMac

Just purchased the new Imac and I have a question. There is only one tv in my house and me and my lady friend fights over the tv. Is there a way I can play video games with good quality on the new IMac? I have seen the eyetv, and was wandering will that work. Thanks

You obviously can play Mac games on the Mac...
if you have a console then you can use the eyeTV Wonder USB.

Q: Can I connect my PlayStation/GameCube/XBox to EyeTV Wonder USB 2.0?
A: You can. EyeTV Wonder USB 2.0 has a delay of only few milliseconds, allowing for excellent live gameplay. Other EyeTV devices have encoding hardware that causes a larger delay, rendering gameplay difficult to impossible.

i have a amd raedon 675m 512mb graphic card( not sure abt the name)
Good card for a Mac, but there are far better one's on Windows, also you can't upgrade it.
3D games need newer cards every couple of years or even sooner to keep up with good games and competition online
Better to buy a Windows machine than try fitting Windows on a Mac.

  • Help with setting up my Macbook to play windows Games.

Hi iam new to apple computers in general, but I have read that I can play Star Wars TOR on a Macbook if I use Bootcamp.
my concerns are does my macbook meet the requiements to run da game, my model is MB403LL/A its from 2008-2009, OSX10.5.8
can some one help me out please.
and can u run thro da process of  setting up bootcamp as well . please and thnk u kindly.

Hi RRFS, thank you for your response.
I have already enabled the 'share printers' function but unfortunately the printer does not automatically appear in the printer lists for my other computers. I have tred to find it manually by selecting add printer in the print and fax dialogue box. I have then been able to select the printer by going to windows - workgroup - selecting the G4 and then selecting the designjet. However, when I then try to print, it enters the print queue but doesn't print.
Any further thoughts would be much appreciated!

  • Play Video Games on iMac

Does it work to use a HDMI-DVI cable and then a DVI-MINI DVI cable to plug a PlayStation 3 into my iMac and play it in HD on the iMac screen? If not, is there another way I can do this?

Elgato's EyeTV Hybrid offers game console connection into the iMac (not HD though) but I'd be worried about latency.

  • How do I play windows game on my Mac without downloading windows on my mac?

I know this is probably impossible, but there are a few pieces of software I'd like to install but they are for PC only. I'd love to know how to install them on my Mac without having to get something like Parallels and downloading Windows on my Mac. Is there any kind of software that can "convert" it or anything?

    You don't.
Sure there are a few games that will run sort of something using Codeweavers, but for the most part you need Windows completely and for performance, in BootCamp.
Running Windows in virtual machine software is about 1/5th the performance of direct boot into BootCamp. But for most other apps that are not power hungrey, it's good enough and easier than having to direct boot hassle.
Windows in BootCamp or Virtual Machine?
And for the best gaming machine, a Windows 7 tower is the one to use, Mac's can't upgrade their video cards like 3D games require from time to time. There are no/little video card upgrades for the MacPro, but on Windows there are a insane amount of video card upgrade possibilites for the fastest play.
You'll get about 1-2 years of online gameplay running Windows on a Mac, then the video card will get you and you'll be fragbait.

  • Playing Windows Games on Mac, without having to install Windows?

I don't necessarily know if this is a question for this category, but is it possible? Is there a patch or program I can download to play games for Windows on my Mac?

I have to agree with templeton. Virtualization is not stable, in other words, it is not for massive graphical or cpu apps. Its more like something to access a few apps once in awhile, i really dont get it tho, ppl should just use Boot Camp, its FREE, with Leopard. And alot of us already have that. I would also recomend using codeweavers app. I tried it on my friends macbook and its work pretty good. not for hardcore gamers (which hardcore gamer would use a mac? we're for creative appilcations not no-life gamers) but its good for Diablo, Halo, Call of Duty, Command Conquer, battlefield, etc.
