Playing WMV videos with VLC

On my iPad I have VLC Media Player which allows me to play WMV videos. I told some friends about this and they can't find it. I looked for it and can't find it either. 1) do you know where I might have gotten it, and 2) why can't I find it in the App Library?

I have an X-Fi Platinum with the bay and When I try to Play a DVD with VLC Player And choose a/52 over s/pdif it sounds HORRID skipping and pausing and not functioning at all.. I must choose 5. channel to have Listenable Audio. The Same goes for AC3 Encoded Files If I chose A/52 over S/PDIF in VLC player it sounds like **bleep** and doesn't seem to decode it right. I must chose stereo 2 channel to listen to AC3 encoded video's.. NOTE The dolby Digital symbol DOES appear when i chose A/52 over S/PDIF so it does know it's a digital signal.. And I have the software set to USE hardware decoder and S/PDIF in Decode selected. NOW Here's something that REALLY makes me wonder wtf is wrong, I can connect my Home DVD Player or Cable Box over the Optical?in OR the S/PDIF in and the SOB works Fine, The Dolby Digital symbol comes up and everything sounds great! Unable to play wmv videos on Nokia X6

Hello All,
I have Nokia X6 (S60V5) phone and I am trying to play wmv videos on it with no luck.Its Device details says that it can play wmv9
Video Playback Formats 3GPP formats (H.263), Flash Video, H.264/AVC, MPEG-4, RealVideo 7,8, WMV 9
I did encode a sample video with following config.
Resolution: 480x360
Video Bit rate : 1024K
Video Codec: wmv3 (which is WMV9)
Audio codec: wmav3
Sampling Rate: 44100
Audio bitrate: 128K
This configuration is not supprted on X6
Could anyone tell me what should be the configuration of wmv file inorder to be played on Nokia X6?

I usually use flv or mp4 as the container and encode to:
Video:
MPEG-4 Video (mp4v)
640x360 resolution
Approx 700 to 800 kbps bitrate
29.9 fps framerate
Audio:
MPEG AAC Audio (mp4a)
stereo,
Approx 128 kbps bitrate
44.1 kHz sample rate
Although the X6 is meant to be able to play H.264 / MPEG-4 AVC (Part 10) I find it fails to play any videos using this codec at resolutions of 640x360 at any decent bitrates and framerates which can be a real pain.
I think the X6 can also playback MPEG-4 (Part 2) / H.263 but I don't normally use this particular standard.

On Windows 7, Itunes 64-bit is playing all videos with a green overlay

On Windows 7, Itunes 64-bit is playing all videos with a green overlay. You can see the video, but it's all green-scale (like grey-scale, only green). I've tried setting the Quicktime Direct3D options per Apple knowledge base articles, but to no avail... Windows 7 is all up to date, and I have the latest video drivers installed.
The videos play perfectly in Quicktime (32-bit; I guess there isn't a 64-bit Quicktime?).

I'd love to get this fixed; it's really baffling and annoying.

I had the same problem and surfed around the internet like a maniac. Finally, after several re-openings and re-installs of iTunes, I tried to log on to my account through the "Genius" - which I could. After that I have not had any problems to go to the Store!

When I play any video with any player, it stops after few minutes

When I want to play any video it stops after few minutes as freeze. Sometimes it continues without sound and others stops completly. I try to play it with more than one players, but same.
The video it's .mkv
I tried with:
- Quicktime X with Perian
- MplayerX
- Mplayer OS X Extended

You should probably take it to the closest apple retail store and have someone at the genuis bar help you. If you dont want to do that you should probably purchase a software or use a free trail version of one to run a virus check.Ive found that Mcfee is a good virus scan program.

Itunes does not work when I want to play Mp4 videos with most recent versions

When I want to play videos with mp4 format on itunes, it does not do anything and I have to close itunes with the windows system manager. Does any one know how to solve this problem? I did not have this isue with 10.5 and previous versions of itunes.

I found the solution, the problem was the encoding of the configuration files.
I put:
=> Encoding: UTF8 without signature
=> line endings: UNIX(LF)
And now it works :)

Playing .mov video with flvPlayback

I have some .mov files I need to play with the flvPlayback component. When I had them in my actionscript it does not work. I've read allot and it says that the component will play mov video but it does not for me.
I am running CS4 with FlashPlayer 10 and AS3.
Any suggestions?

There are many different types of .mov files. I think that flvPlayback can only play .mov files that have been encoded with the H.264 codec. So if you have Quicktime open the mov file with that and check the information for what codec was used on the video stream.

Subtitles in video with VLC -- Mountain Lion

I am trying to view a TV show that has subtitles with VLC on a MacBook Air running 10.8.3. The video files are .avi and the subtitle files are .srt. Nothing is working. Anybody know what to do? Thanks!

The best app to record your display is clearly QuickTime Player, preinstalled with OS X. Just open this app, go to File menu (on the menu bar) > New Movie Recording.
Apart from that, there are third-party applications that have got more features as the ability to modify the recorded video with that app, without having to export it to another application. I recommend Screenflow > http://www.telestream.net/screenflow/overview.htm
Another option is to use "Photo Booth", preinstalled on OS X

MBP Won't Play WMV Files With Flip 4 Mac?

Hi all!
Just wondering if you could give me an idea as to why I might be having troubles playing .wmv files even though I have installed Flip 4 Mac? I have uninstalled F4M and reinstalled it, but still no joy! It's pretty important that I am able to play wmvs, for work, so any help would be extremely helpful!

Hi,
I've never used this application before but I might know something that will fix it.
~/Library/Preferences/ and find the Flip4Mac file and delete it. Since I don't have it, I won't be able to tell you what it's called so you will either have to search through and find it or you will have to search the preference folder for it. It will be a .plist file. Just delete the file.

How can i play a video with dv4 format?

Incompatible web sites, playing wmv video on mac

I am an expert pc user switching to mac...
I realized when I made the switch that they would be software that worked with PC that would not work with MAC. What has really surprised me, is there seems to be many web sites that will not work with MAC and its browsers.
This started with a conversation with apple support, where they indicated there were incompatible web sites.
My business bank stops you cold and says you have to use IE; you can ignore it and move on and it seems to work ok.
The Walgreen pharmacy web site has a drug cost calculator that also says you must use IE, and you cannot move on.
What really concerns me are the ones that give you no warning, but just don't work. If you go to

Mac Safari - the video player displays, but the video will not play.
PC IE - everything works as expected.
The video format is wmv, which is an industry standard. I installed flip4mac, which is supposed to allow you to view wmv in quicktime, but it did work. Even after downloading the video (a link), I could not watch in on the mac. I had to go to a PC.
This type of silliness is exactly why I am running from a PC. Now I am finding it prevalent on the mac.
Question 1) specific to the wmv file format, how do you get it to run on mac?
Question 2) is this just the way it is? You cannot depend on web applications working at all with mac?

Apple has to understand that we don't care about who is at fault for web sites not working with Mac
The WebKit team are more than aware of that fact, and where possible they work with popular websites to get them to correct their websites or add specific 'kludges' into the WebKit code to specifically support these sites.

If it takes IE compatibility mode to handle all web sites, then just do it.
That of course costs money. And then there's the prospect of Apple having to license Microsoft's DRM solution to provide 100% compatibility with Windows Media files. As we all know, Apple like good P.R. as much as the next company and handing something like that to Microsoft is never going to happen.
Microsoft clearly won't provide updated WMP technology for OS X as it gives them nothing, other than the extra impetus for people to switch away from Windows.
So we're stuck with essentially badgering the broken sites to fix things, or going somewhere else (and spending our $$$ there if needed).

True, but today's college student is tomorrow's business person and Apple products are very popular with college students these days. Apple are in this for the long term. Things will change, but we have to live in the real world and know this isn't going to happen soon.
The truth of the matter is that the sooner Microsoft get on board with being a responsible web-citizen then the better it will be for everyone (and by everyone I don't just mean Apple users, but anyone connected to the internet).
Almost [1 in 3 browsers on the web are not Internet Explorer|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usageshare_of_webbrowsers] - that's a huge number and businesses on the web need to be aware of this.
Please please please do not get me wrong - I would love it if Safari (or Firefox, or Opera, or Chrome, or ...) could handle every site that IE does but it's never, ever going to happen.

FCP X viewer window plays back video with color errors

I am new to Final Cut X and Final Cut PRo in general. I am doing a project at work where I needed to learn FCPX.
I figured out a lot pretty fast. But one issue i am having is that all of the clips being played back in the viewer window are being played back with this weird color error. Its happens to movie clips, still photos and titles. See below, This is a screenshot of what it looks like. When I first installed FCP it wasn't doing this but now it started doing it all the time. Its annoying because I can't see the transitions properly, and sometimes video gets out of sync with audio.
I am running Lion 10.7.1 with a Mac Pro 2 x 2.8ghx Quad Core Xeon. 16GB RAM. Nothing special on the HD's but they are at 7200rpm.
I tried adjusting prefs for playback quality, I tried transcoding media. However, its doing this to a still frame jpeg as well, which should be giving the machine ay trouble. I feel like my machine should be able to keep up with FCPX.
EDIT: I also restarted my machine a bunch of times and killed all processes that weren't necessary for the machine to run and for FCP to be working. I also have an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT graphics card, which meets the requirements for FCP X.

I am also seeing the same issue. I have an Eizo Display and if I color correct with the i1 it behaves as above. It has been driving me crazy. If I switch back to standard profile it seems to work but my dislplay is not color calibrated. Is there a fix?
