Playlist bug in 11.1

Just reporting that modifying playlists becomes very buggy when burning another playlist to CD. While burning playlist A, editing playlist B simply doesn't work - deleting/dragging/dragging music to other playlists simply doesn't work and throws no error messages. It makes sense to disable these feratures on the playlist that's burning to disc, but I'm pretty sure a bug is disabling all playlist functionality.
MacBook Air, running OS X 10.8.4/iTunes 11.1
This was the last straw so I've since reverted back to iTunes 10.7 (Sorry Apple, I tried to love 11 but it really does stink, gonna miss managing my iOS 7 iPhone/Pad, but it's worth having all the cool 10.x features back ).

The issue I face is when there are folders within folders.  For example, when I hit Ctrl+L in the below scenario, Folder 1 opens (correct), sub-folder A opens (incorrect), sub-folder B opens (correct) and sub-folder C opens (incorrect).  In my view (and how itunes previously operated), only Folder 1 and sub-folder B should open.
Folder 1
- Sub Folder A
- Sub Folder B (location of playing track)
- Sub Folder C

  • On-the-go playlist bug when it contains podcasts (will not play them)

    Hello,
I want to report a bug in the iPod Nano 3rd generation. Here are the steps to reproduce, first to check that the playlist works with only songs, and then to see that it does not work with songs and podcasts, and lastly to see that it does not work at all with only podcasts.
    1. Clear the On-the-go playlist.
    2. Add any number of songs to the On-the-go playlist (let's say 3).
    3. Confirm that you can play the playlist by selecting it in the list of playlists and hitting the play button on your iPod. The Now Playing screen should say "1 of 3".
    1. Clear the On-the-go playlist. If it was playing it should now be stopped.
    2. Add any number of songs to the On-the-go playlist (we'll add 3 for now).
    3. Add at least one podcast to the On-the-go playlist.
    4. Highlight the On-the-go playlist in the list of playlists. It should say "4 Songs".
    5. Hit the play button. The Now Playing screen will say "1 of 3". At the end of the third song you will be returned to the Playlists screen without the podcast ever having been played.
    1. Clear the On-the-go playlist.
    2. Add at least one podcast to the On-the-go playlist. We''ll add 2 podcasts.
    3. Go the Playlists screen and highlight the On-the-go playlist. It should say "2 Songs".
    4. Hit the play button. The Now playing screen should show, the songtitle displayed is that of a song that was playing recently. There will be no album art displayed, even if that last songs did have album art associated with it. The screen will say "1 of 0" and there is no sound. There is no play/pause indicator next to the battery indicator. The time indicators are "0:00" and -"0:00" left and right respectively. You can hit the center button and try to scrub the position on the bar, it will not go beyond the time of the last song that was played on the iPod.
Should you reset the iPod and try to play the playlist with only podcasts now, the screen will have no song information, just the missing album art picture and "1 of 0". There is also no time indicators and the bar on the bottom is as wide as the screen minus its normal padding.
If you hit the center button while in the Now Playing screen with the "1 of 0" display, and you then try to scrub the player the iPod will reset.
Can someone confirm this bug? Is there a fix?
I really like to have multiple podcasts in the On-the-go playlist when using Nike+ and now I can't. I don't like to have to reach for my iPod during running to start another podcast, because you have to pause the workout to do that. I don't want to save the playlist, because I won't ever use it again, so I'd just have to remove it again. If it could just work, that'd be great, thanks!

Well, I guess Apple just doesn't care about bugs in the iPhone or customer satisfaction. Just as long as they have the money they couldn't care less about anything else.
    Thanks Apple!

  • Smart Playlist bug?

Anyone else having this problem? My music library consists of primarily contemporary Christian music. I attempted to set a Smart Playlist that would auto update music selections in two genres of music, "Gospel" and "Gospel & Religious" as per the album tags that were associated with the selections I wanted. iTunes won't do it - I end up with only the selections that are tagged with the "Gospel & Religous" genre, it will not include the selections tagged "Gospel" in the Smart Playlist.
I've considered retagging all the files to the same genre, but would rather not. Is this an iTunes issue, or is the "&" character in the genre causing Windows to burp?
Just trying to figure it all out ...
Thanks for any help in advance.
    Dell Deskop   Windows XP Pro

    That's not a bug, RuRod. It's what we refer to as a "feature". ; - )
A Smart Playlist defined by Genre, i.e. Genre is Gospel & Religious, will include only songs identified specifically as Gospel & Religious - not Gospel and not Religious.
The solution is to change the playlist rule to either -
    1) Genre contains Gospel
    or
    2) Match any of the following rules:
    Genre is Gospel
    +
    Genre is Gospel & Religious.

  • Workround for Smart Playlist bug in iTunes 6.0.5

I'm using iTunes 6.0.5 on MacOS 10.2.8 (hence I can't upgrade iTunes to a later version 'cos my OS is too old).
When I try to use Smart Playlists, the program closes down whenever I create a Playlist featuring a date-type condition (like "Last Played") and change from "is" to something else (like "is not in the last" ... ). This seems to be a bug common whenever iTunes 6.0.5 is used on MacOS 10.2.8.
Is there any work-around for this problem? (The computing administrator here is unlikely to allow me to upgrade the OS just so that I can play music more conveniently!) If it were possible to make copies of Smart Playlists, then I might be able to adjust the standard "Recently Played".
    Thanks (hopefully!) in advance,
    Martyn

ih1, that one is often caused by a damaged itunes preference file. try the technique described in this user tip:

  • Weird 3.0 Playlist Bug

Try to figure this one out. I've duplicated it on a 3GS and 3G iPhone.
I upgraded the Complete Bob Dylan collection to iTunes Plus this morning and all 128 KBPS tracks were deleted as normal. To get them on my iPhone, I simply made a smart list that would contain any track by Bob Dylan since many of the albms contained other performers as well.
I synced the playlist containing all 773 tracks and they all synced fine. Trying to play one album titled New Morning which contains 12 tracks, now shows as containing 73 tracks and some of the songs are missing. When I do a search for one of the songs named Three Angels that should be on the album and I tap it to start playing it, it plays a completly different song. Other albums contains tracks that don't belong either.
To proove the songs meta data are correct, I can then delete the playlist and all songs and then manually sync the music and all albums and tracks appear 100% normal and play normally as they should.
I just don't understand how this is possible. Any help? Thanks

    1) We are never clearing the cache on the rename page so your previous value is recalled. Given that you would never really want to rename two tables to the same name (because you would get an error), I will log a bug to clear the cache when we invoke rename.
    2) Hmmm - somehow the named lov anchors were changed. Must have happened during the creation of Report Layouts (they are both using the same list for their 'button' but they shouldn't. I will log a bug. Thanks for letting us know -

  • Music Playlist Bug?

    Hi,
I just want to know if something is wrong with my devices (iPod Touch 5 and iPhone 4S). I created my own playlist and shuffle play it. I had a little above 100 songs in that playlist. However, whenever I pause it, open other apps/games and play the music, the playlist "exits" and starting playing randomly songs even not in the playlist. Just today, I am in the 80th "shuffled" song in the playlist, then I decided to play a game (specifically Minion Rush by Gameloft). After exiting the app and opened my music, I noticed that the playlist stops and starts to play from the first "shuffled" song again and it even plays the song outside the playlist. I do not know what went wrong, because before, I haven't experienced it. And by the way, my brother (iPhone 5) also experienced the same thing. Is it just because of the app (i.e. in this case, Minion Rush) itself?
    Thanks,

i found out that only some apps causes this bug. So bug is one the app side, not on Apple.

  • Workaround for iPhone smart playlist bug

There is a bug (do a search for smart playlist in this forum) with smart playlists not displaying the correct songs on the iPhone.
I just tried something that seems to have worked...
I have a playlist in iTunes called "Recently Added" which I want to keep synced with my iPhone.
I created a new smart playlist called "Recently Added (iPhone)". The playlist has one rule: "Playlist is Recently Added" with live updating checked.
I now sync this second playlist with the iPhone and all the correct songs show up in it.

    Excellent idea Jeff.
Your approach works for the same reason that my original idea works.
The inclusion of another playlist as a condition in a smart playlist, causes the playlist to become "rasterized" or static.
The developers wanted smart playlists to be really smart - instead of copying a static list of songs from the smart playlist to the iPhone/Pod, they simply send the definition of the playlist to the iPhone and let it calculate which songs from it's own library belong on it.
The nice thing about their approach is that the playlists will continue to live update on the Phone in-between syncs - so if you have a playlist called "Last 25 played" it will have the last 25 played songs on your iPhone, instead of the last 25 played songs that you played in iTunes.
The problem of course, is that there's a bug in the way the iPhone calculates these rules (probably related to the porting of code to a new architecture).
So why does this fix work?
Well, my theory is that when you create a smart playlist that references another playlist, iTunes simply calculates the songs that should appear on the smartplaylist and sends a literal list to the iPhone/Pod.
This solves the problem that would be created if you only sync the parent playlist, and not the playlists it references. (IE, if you would want to be able to sync the "25 most played" playlist without also having to sync the "MusicOnly" playlist).

  • Encore Playlist bug

I have a problem with chapter play lists not obeying the skip chapter button.
I have a main timeline with one long encode that has chapter points along it. There is a "PLAY ALL" button on the only menu that links to this timeline.
I then have "Chapter 1", "Chapter 2" ... buttons on the menu that link to chapter playlists that only have that single chapter in them. The end action on each playlist returns to the main menu.
The first time I authored this DVD the "Chapter 1" button did nothing upon pressing the skip chapter button. All the other Chapter buttons did not return to the menu as I assumed they would but skipped through the chapters of the main timeline - which was acceptable. The "PLAY ALL" button works fine.
I tried relinking the "Chapter 1" button, re-inserting the chapter point, cleared the cache files, and then I re-authored the project from scratch.
The second author of the project with identical layout, resulted in the "PLAY ALL" button working fine. But now none of the "Chapter 1", "Chapter 2"... buttons skip anywhere - they simply do nothing when that button is pressed. The video refuses to advance to the next chapter on the timeline, or obey the end action on the chapter playlist which is to return to the main menu.
I have tried it on several DVD players all with the same results. Not surprisingly the Encore preview works as it should.
So thats two completely different behaviors for two different projects!
Is there any fix for this?
    As a side note:
We unfortunately use this software every day at a medium sized post production facility - it is easily the most buggy of our toolset. I hope Adobe actually tries to fix this and the many other bugs that plauge this software before the next release! What a joke of a piece of software!!!
We are currently looking for a robust industrial strength DVD authoring software, any suggestions?

    >The first time I authored this DVD the "Chapter 1" button did nothing upon pressing the skip chapter button. All the other Chapter buttons did not return to the menu as I assumed they would but skipped through the chapters of the main timeline - which was acceptable. The "PLAY ALL" button works fine.
This almost sounds correct given a couple of assumptions on my part:
1 - Not sure what you mean by the first sentence here, as pressing the Chapter One button from
    i where
"did nothing on pressing the chapter skip button" - I really cannot understand this, and wonder if you tried what is a nonsensical command?
2 - "All other chapter buttons did not return to the menu as I assumed"?
A Chapter Playlist will play just the chapters in it, followed by the end action that you must set for the chapter playlist itself. If you don't set the action, whatever the default is will be used instead. Believe me, it's easy enough to forget these things unless you have a drawn plan of the project in front of you.

  • Why is my iPhone playlist bugged?

For some reason even though ive updated to the most recent itunes of 1/1/2012 and even updated my phones software
whatever playlist i create for my iPhone on iTunes does not sync correctly
for example if i sorted my songs by date added on iTunes it will show my iPhone connected to my computer with the playlists and the correct order that i want
However, My iPhone will show the playlist completely different and the songs will be scrambled in an order with no pattern
Trying to adjust the playlists via the actual iPhone does not work as they return to their original state
    can anyone help me?
    iPhone 4 version 5.0.1
    iTunes version 10.5

Yes, I'm definitely finding some weird bugs when it comes to iTunes syncing with iPhone.  If I change information for a song in iTunes and then try to sync to iPhone, the iPhone usually ignores the change.  Or sometimes it will have some other weird behavior.  For instance, if I change the genre of an album in iTunes from 'rock' to 'indie', then sync to iPhone, when I check the genre list in iPhone, I'll notice that album will still be under 'rock'.  The really weird thing is it will also create a duplicate 'rock' genre and put it in the list next to 'indie'.  So there would be duplicate genres inthe genre list, and not in alphabetical order.  Also that album will be listed under both 'rock' genre listings.  Not sure if that all made sense.  It's a little hard to explain because it's so weird.
In any case, there is a work around that's not too painful.  What I've done is just erase those tracks/albums from my iPhone that are refusing to sync correctly.  When I sync with iTunes again, that song gets re-downloaded with the correct information.  Becca, in your case, if you haven't yet, try erasing the playlist from your phone, and letting it download again when you sync.  It's a bit of a chore to have to do this often, especially when changing information for whole groups of songs, so hopefully Apple will fix this soon.  I'm going to post this to see if others have the same problem.
Side note- I JUST updated to the newest iTunes (10.5.3.3) like yesterday so we'll see if these bugs keep happening.  I forget which version I had before.
    windows 7 64bit
    itunes 10.5.3.3 (as of yesterday)
    iphone 4s
    ios 5.0.1

  • Can you reproduce this weird playlist bug???

I see this on Windows 7 and Windows 8.   Spotify desktop app.   Curious if it happens for other people, or on any other platforms.
    1. Create a new empty playlist
    2. Add six albums each with at least 10 tracks.  I drag and drop the albums to the playlist, one at a time.  You should now have at least 60 tracks in the playlist.
    3.  Use the default playlist sorting method,  By that I mean, don't sort the playlist by song, artist, album name, or date.  Should be the order you added the albums.
    4.  Scroll to the bottom of the playlist and highlight all of the tracks in the last album.  Select the first track in the album with the mouse and then hold CTRL while you arrow down or mouse click to select the rest of the tracks.
    5.  Now drag the selected album up to move the tracks above the second to last album.   You're effectively swapping the bottom two albums in the playlist.
^^^ At this point I get an error message about adding duplicate tracks to the playlist.  Which is strange because I have not added any new tracks, I'm only  reordering them.
    6. Now create another new empty playlist.
    7.  Select all of the tracks in the first playlist.  CTRL-A works.   And drag and drop them to the new playlist
^^^  Notice the new playlist now has TWO copies of each album!   If the first playlist had 60 tracks, this one has 120!!!
Weird, eh?   Very frustrating when I make playlists of full albums....

Bug reproduced with LibreOffice 3.5.1.2 on Arch x86_64 here.
officeuser wrote:Can you also reproduce the bug? Can you create a gdb log of the bug according to these instructions?
I'm afraid I can't. At step 3, when I try to run base within gdb I get no further than the "Database assistant" dialog. Base freezes as soon as the main window is opened when running in gdb.

  • Semi-random songs added randomly to playlist [bug]

So I've come across this one weird bug, I opened up a playlist I created recently and oddly enough new songs had been added in the middle of the playlist that I haven't added myself. And it's a private playlist. I say semi-random songs because there were only songs from other playlists, starred songs or songs added to my collection. I do not know what caused this bug. My only usage recently has been listening to playlists.I'm using the spotify webplayer on firefox 39, windows 7 64bit. I doubt that has any relevance to the cause, but now you know.Curious if there's anyone else having experienced the same issue or if this is an isolated case.

Cat, Thank you for your input. I got it to work but not exactly the way you said, and it took me a couple of tries before I got it embedded in my brain. So here is what I did. I brought up my playlist Dan, and added some songs. While in the playlist I went to the main menu and clicked on NOW PLAYING. It brought me back to the song that was playing. I then clicked OK and this showed all the tracks now in the play list. I highlighted one of the tracks and clicked OK. Then I clicked on SAVE AS PLAYLIST, Wrote Dan
and then YES to overwrite. Although I clicked on only one track, it added all the new tracks to Dan. Whew! Not exactly creating a permanent playlist on the fly, and if I was to start from scratch, I would have the name of my playlist one letter long. Is this the way it is supposed to be? I suggest a firmware upgrade that when you press ADD TO SELECTED that does it, and not going through all this other stuff.

  • Possible Playlist Bug When Deleting Items

I've discovered a potential bug in the way additional detail is displayed for a track when you tap the ellipsis on the right side of a track in a playlist. I am in the US, using an iPhone 5 running iOS 7.1.2 and Spotify 1.4.1.4.
If I have a playlist that contains several songs, and I delete the first song, the detail page for the new first song actually shows the detail for the second song. Every time a playlist item is deleted from the top of the playlist, the index for the item displayed in the details page is incremented by one more than it should be, so if I delete another song, the detail page for the new first song in the playlist now shows the details for the third song, and so forth. This happens until you do something such as playing a track, and then the details page shows the correct track information.
I have screenshots, but I don't see a way of submitting feedback via the app. I can post them here when I get to a PC.

I have the same problem after removing songs from the playlist. The currently playing song shown in the list is different from the playing song at the moment.

  • ITunes 11 Playlist Bug

When I import songs from an album from my iTunes library to a new iTunes playlist, the songs are arranged from bottom to top instead of top to bottom. This is just a small bug that i think it has to be fixed for the next iTunes patch. Please reply if this bug has ever happened to you. I tested this bug using iTunes 11.0.1 (12) in Mac OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), so I don't know if this bug also applies on the Windows version.

    1.  This is not a bug.

  • 10.2.1 Recently Played smart playlist (bug)

Like most users, I often skip around from song to song before the song is finished. These songs used to be added automatically to the "Recently Played" smart playlist (set to Last played in the last 30 days, live updating).
I have noticed since 10.2.1 update, that a song must be fully played before being added to said playlist.
It is very time consuming to scrub through the entire song of each song you play to get it added to the recently played smart playlist.
    Has anyone else noticed this?
