Playlist by speed/pace of music?

I use a treadmill, speed-walking between 3.5 and 4.2 miles per hour. Is there a way to create a playlist based on the speed of the song??

You can use a variety of third party utilities such as Beatunes to find the bpm for songs you don't know. Then, you can create a smart playlist based on BPM. iTunes doesn't, however, provide any BPM data.
You can also try a podcast such as Steve Boyett's excellent Podrunner which is available from the iTunes Store. Every week, he makes a new mix, generally at a constant BPM. There quite a number that are a suitable speed for walking. (No, Steve doesn't pay me. I'm just a HUGE fan). Of course, his taste in music may not be for everyone. Still, it's free, so give it a listen. I think there are a couple of other similar podcasts available.
As to figuring out how what BPM translates to the speed you're walking, you're kind of on your own there! I'm sure you could time your self and count steps, though. That would get you a good rough idea. I know I use the 160-170 bpm podcasts for running and I'm a slow runner.
Best of luck.

  • After upgrading to the most recent version of iTunes, for the second time now, I have completely lost all of my playlists and some of my music

I have upgraded to the current version of iTunes 12.0.1.26
I am using Windows 7 Premium
I have lost all of my previous playlists and some of my music
This is the second time this has happened when advised of an updated version.
How can I get all my music and playlists back without having to redo them again?

    Hello richmondhill49,
The article linked below details a number of steps that may help restore your content and playlists to iTunes.
No content shows up in iTunes after updating

  • Since updating to ios 4.3.4 songs and podcasts have speeded up. Music goes faster, people talk faster in podcasts.

In the podcast playing screen there is a box on the left just under the scrubber bar.  It has a 1/2X. 1X or 2X. Those are the playback speeds.  Tap on the box to cycle through and change the playback speed.

  • HT1451 how do I create playlists now of my downloaded music.  Used to drag from "recently dowloaded" to playlist.  Can't even find the dang songs!!!!!

how do I create playlists now of my downloaded music.  Used to drag from "recently dowloaded" to playlist.  Can't even find the dang songs!!!!!

However, my troubleshooting issue is that I also want the songs in my concert playlists to go in order of how they were performed at the concerts.
    Give them a track number.
Each time I number them within the playlists the song's number also changes within the Library Music list.
And?  I'm not seeing the problem.
However, I can not figure out how to make true copy. I've already tried dragging the song to my desktop, then dragging the new copy back into iTunes. I've even tried renaming the duplicate copy and dragging it into iTunes. Why won't my iTunes make an individual duplicate copy of a song?
How do you have iTunes manage your music?  If you drag a song to the desktop it may just be moving the file to the desktop.
Command+R to reveal the file in Finder.  Command+D to duplicate the file in Finder. Drag the duplicate to iTunes to add the second copy.  Not that I totally understand where the issues lie and feel this is likely not the best remedy...

  • HT1535 Unwanted "Genius" playlists added to my iPad music library.

I'm getting multiple unwanted "Genius" playlists added to my iPad music.
How do I get rid of these files with zero bytes of data????

Thanks for the reply but it doesn't really work.
Once I unselect any tracks in the "smart playlist" they also unselect in my the "main" itunes. Which means when I go to listen to these tracks on my Mac, they won't play in the "main" itunes automatically without manually clicking on each one of them (those that have been unselected) and obviously vice versa for listening to music on the "smart playlist".
    Does that make any sense?
I feel that I don't have full control over how I'm interacting with my music. It would seem, to do this, I need a seperate player for listening to music on my Mac, and itunes for syncing music back and forth on my iphone.

  • Is there a way to auto sync playlists while manually managing your music?

I used to use WMP11 before I bought an iPod and used iTunes, and in that I was able to auto sync playlists to my Samsung dap, as well as being able to manually drag tracks/albums to it.
Since using iTunes, I have found it is not as accessible in this regard. Of course, you can opt to manually manage your music, but if you do this, it does not auto sync any info. This means that if I drag a playlist to my iPod and alter it at a later stage by adding more tracks, it won't alter it on the iPod unless I manually replace it with the amended one. It also means that any ratings that I set on my iPod do NOT get transfered to the tracks in iTunes when connected.
What I have done is set a playlist called 'iPod Tracks' in iTunes, and have dragged any extra albums to my iPod using that, as well as the smart playlist 'Top Tracks'. But the disadvantage of this is, if I drag a few songs from an album into my 'iPod Tracks' playlist, then later decide I want the whole album and drag that over, I end up with two of the same tracks in the playlist, which makes it look very untidy (although I am aware only one of each track will be on the iPod) so it is not ideal.
Surely there must be a way to auto sync playlists so that when you amend them in iTunes it does so on the iPod too, as well as manually drag over any extra tracks/albums you want without having a messy playlist work-around like I have done.
    Any help/ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

There is no way to sync content back to itunes. As you are aware there are a couple of unsupported ways to recover your content, you will need to decide if your content is valuable enough to go down this route.
If so and you are not comfortable with the procedures, I suggest taking the unit to a data recovery specialist with mac experience.

  • How do I display the playlist(s) to which my music has been assigned?

I know that I have music in my library which is not in any of my playlists. The question is, "Which songs?" I suppose I could look in the playlist I think it should be in to see if it's there, but by number 500 or so my eyes get kind of tired; and what if I put it in the wrong playlist by accident; or what if I overlooked it? I suppose I could just start from scratch too, but I hope I don't have to do that. I think it would be a lot simpler if there were a way to display the playlist to which a piece of music is assigned in the music library window. That way I could see what playlist each piece was in as well as see if there are pieces that are not in any playlist. It would even be helpful if I could just click on an individual song to see what playlist, if any, I have it in. Is there a way to do either of these things? I hope so

Using the Smart Playlist idea was a great help. It worked perfectly! Thank you very much for the suggestion. I really appreciate it. Now all of my music has been assigned to at least one Playlist. I always worry, though, that I may have accidentally dragged a song to the Playlist above or below it; or maybe I should have put it in different Playlist; or more than one Playlist. I guess I have a little OCD. Anyway, it would be nice just to be able to review all of the music information, including the playlists that are assigned, in the music list. It would be a lot easier with a lot less clicking. Thanks to your suggestion, though, I now know that all of the songs have been assigned to Playlists. Again, I appreciate your help. Thank you.

  • My ipod connects to itunes and the computer i'm using but won't let me edit playlists or add/ take away music

I have an iPod touch and whichever device i use to edit my music has the same issue:
i can connect to the computer and my ipod is connected to itunes but i can't edit any of the music through itunes.
    other issues include:
    - unable to view new playlists created through the ipod itself (since the problem occured)
    - unable to use the category tabs to view music by ratings, song names, bands, etc., through ipod (once connected to itunes) but option still available to view through itunes itself
    - unable to change any names etc., for playlists
i've checked for software updates and storage usage but all are fine, data analysis under systems reads as normal (the occassional music app crash but that was months before this problem had occurrred)
two thing that have happened recently:
    - my graphics/ screen thing-a-ma-bob for my macbook has gone funny (this was my primary devices for loading and editing music for my ipod) and has created difficulty in viewing things through my macbook screen. consequently i:
    - recently connected my ipod to the home computer instead as i'm having issues with my macbook (this is a pc but is again well looked after, systmes updates and current programs are all updated)
please could someone help or suggest options for me to try as i'm so confused and would really like to edit my music to my tastes
    thanks in advance!
    - V

You can only sync with one computer/iTunes library.
If y oare having problem with iTunes not related to syncing try posting in the iTunes for Mac forum
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/itunes/itunes_for_mac
Otherwise try restoring the iPod from backup

  • Is there a way to create dynamic playlists on the fly in music on smart media?

Often I'm at a friends house and we're looking through music trying to pick the next song to play as one is finishing.
It would be really great to have an dynamic playlist where you could add and subtract songs as you go and so keep the music playing as you create away and the new list runs.
I see a couple of apps offering this but they don't have good reviews. Also crossfade for this would be a nice option too.
Any plans to give a 'life update' revamp to party goers using itunes on their smart devices?
Or doesMusic have this feature and I'm just unaware of it?

Yes, there is a way. Here is the workaround. You can add notes folders directly with your iPad or iPhone.

  • My iTunes account is no longer showing my playlists or any of the music I have added from sources other than iTunes.

I discovered that iTunes is no longer showing any of my playlists or music I have added from sources other than iTunes.  My iPod, which is a 4th Gen Classic, seems fine and has all of my playlists and music.  My question is how do I upload my iPod to iTunes so that I don't lose anything?  I have read a lot of posts about people having similar problems and most of them suggest restoring from an old saved file.  I have two problems with this approach 1) I do not have a current back-up and 2) it does not seem to work for any of my non-Apple purcahsed music.  Does anyone know of an easy way to fix this?

I'd do a "deauthorize all" from a computer you have access to, and then reauthorise the computers you still have access to.
For instructions, see the following document:
iTunes Store: About authorization and deauthorization

  • Playlists are not syncing correctly - music loaded on iPhone but not in playlists themselves.

Spent the whole day trying to deal with this iOS5 update on my iPhone 4. It got bricked, I had to restore it, and then couldn't find the most recent backup that I had. So I had to rearrange and re-add all my apps and many photo albums. Anyway, now I'm struggling with my playlists in the iPod/Music app (which I manage manually). in ITunes, I can view my iPhone playlists just fine, play all the songs there, etc. But when I look at the playlists on my iPhone itself most of them are completely empty. Some have some songs in them. If I go to the songs browser instead of playlist browser, however, I see all the songs; including the ones 'missing' from the playlists.
I deleted all my playlists and tried to re-add them to the iPhone. The same thing happens. A playlist will add, and show up completely fine in iTunes under iPhone, but on the iPhone itself the playlists are wrong (empty or missing songs).
Is this a bug? How can I fix this?

Having the same issue as well. The 4S is my first iPhone, but I've been using my 3rd Gen Touch since it came out. This is the buggiest iOS I've used and most of my problems are within the Music app.
The playlists on my phone do not match the playlists as they are on in iTunes. I keep having movies show up in my Recently Added playlist despite the "Media Kind is Music" filter on that playlist. I have music with 5 plays showing up on a playlist that excludes any music with over 4 plays.
Another issue I'm having is with creating new playlists. I can create a playlist, name it, and start adding songs to it. But when I try to click Done, it won't let me. I'll click the top left arrow to go back to the main page and it'll let me click Done but then all that songs I've added are gone.
    Just a real buggy experience.

  • My playlist has disappeared, all the music is there and i can listen to it but i cannot see the playlist contents list anymore. Any help on how to fix this?

My playlist on My iPad 2 has blacked out, the music is all there and i can listen to it but i have no playlist breakdown of songs and i can only go back and forward with the arrows to listen to music. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.
There's more to try but let's go a bit at a time.

  • "Sync" is not working correctly.  selected playlists even when the "Sync selected playlists" was selected and playlists were checked in the music iTunes library.  Do I have a defective iPod touch?

Ever since I bought my ipod touch 4th generation, IOS 4G, 8GB in January 2011, it would not sync selected playlists.
This is even when I have checked 3 things:
    1.  Under Summary/Options, I've checked "Manually manage music and videos" and "sync only checked songs and video."
    2.  When I go to the Music tab and attempt to sync, I have already chosen "selected playlists, artists, albums and genres"
    3.  When I click on "Sync" a window comes up and says "Are you sure you want to sync music?  All existing content on the iPod will be removed and replaced with songs and playlists from your iTunes library."
Do I have a defective ipod?
    5Red5

Sync should be an automatic feature that can be triggered manually. Although, I have a two Shuffles, which are obviously not Touches, so they might be different.
If you have your iPod set to manually manage music, the option to sync only checked songs should not do anything. You have to drag songs manually to the iPod on the sidebar to add music (I've created playlists of only songs I want, then I shift-click the whole thing and drag all of the songs at once to update them, that way I don't have to remember what goes where), and you have to manually select and delete songs from the iPod's 'Music' library on the sidebar to remove them.
As for syncing the files, on my shuffles, they sync individual songs (for Get Info information changes ONLY) automatically every time I plug them into iTunes, and again if I make any changes to the Get Info stuff while they're plugged in. For example, if I added a song to my iPod playlist, it wouldn't sync it, but if I changed the genre of a song that's already on it, it will automatically sync.
       Good luck.

  • How can I make playlists and update ipod from music stored on a NAS?

I recently bought a new computer and before doing so, I transferred all my mp3/music files onto my NAS device.  I am able to share that music and play it from my Itunes, but I cannot make playlists from it or update my ipod.  I tried searching and following what some people have said with no luck.  Please help, as I'd like to keep all my music files on the NAS and not have them taking up space on my local computer hard drive.

  • My iTunes crached! I lost my playlists and 60 GBs of music. Can I get back may playlists and music? How?

My battery went down. I opened my iTunes and there I found that all my palylists gone and most of my music gone. HELP!

I suppose you did not have a backup of your hard drive?
You need to be very exact in posting because we only have what you say with which to work.  You see some of your music listed in your library but all your playlists are gone and a lof of music also isn't listed in the iTune window?  I have never heard of that and to me it would say major file corruption on your computer, but then it surprises me the library file would even open.  If that's the case you may need to rebuild your library from scratch with whatever files are in your media folder.  This is going to take some doing so I won't start until I know that's what you need to do.  Of course if you do have a backup then you can restore everything quickly.
