Playlist copying (iTunes to Iphone) not reliable

Hi,
I've got problems with copying playlists from iTunes to iPhone:
Problem
When copying playlists from iTunes to iPhone, I encounter three problems
- some playlists do not copy
- some songs do not copy
- And it gets stranger, in some cases the songs or playlists do actually copy, but are not visible in either Musc App or other Player Apps when on iPhone, BUT are vislble and playable when the iPhone is attached via cable to my computer. i.e. I can play those playlists / songs from my iPhone when whithin iTunes.
I can somehow get this resolved in some cases by again and again copying and synching, individual songs or entire playlists, but there is just no clear pattern of how I can copy playlists reliably.
How I copy playlist
I 'manually manage music'
I copy playlists by simply dragging them onto the iPhone in the sidebar
Configuration
MacBook Pro
OS Mavericks
iTunes 11.1.3. (8)
With around 20  'normal' playlists, containing around 20 songs (music, not podcasts) each.
I am not using music match.
Songs are mp3 from CDs not purchased via iTunes
Playlist are not smart playlists
I am not using musicmatch
Backup is against Computer, not iCloud
iPhone
iPhone 4
iOS 7.0.4
Apple Music App
Currently thereare around 1.15 GB free space on the iPhone
Has anyone any explanation why this could be the case and how to resolve this?
Any help greatly appreciated
m

I have the same problem, I also can't set "remember play back position" for my files on the newest iTunes.
Does your seekbar in the music app also stutter by any chance?

  • Moving playlist from iTunes to iPhone

I'm sure this is a silly question, but it baffles me despite nearly a decade of experience using iTunes and iPhones on previous devices.
My question is simply -- how do I copy a playlist from iTunes to my iPhone? iTunes Match somehow seems to to be getting in the way but I'm not sure how or why.
I'm using a new iMac and iPhone 4S. (Will leave out the details of the other devices I'll try to sync once this is done...) Previously, I had iTunes on an old PC and an iPhone 3, and everything worked beautifully: I created playlists, manually selected which I wanted on my phone, and sync'd perfectly. Now I have iTunes Match, with some 12,000 songs sync'd, and I thought this would make my life easier. Instead, I'm totally unable to create playlists for my phone.
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,

Not sure if this will answer your question or not (or if it's even the best solution):
    1) Plug in your iPhone to your computer
    2) When iTunes pulls up, click on your iPhone (under the "Devices" section on the left side) and create a new playlist (name it whatever you want)
    3) In the playlist you've created in iTunes, drag and drop the songs to the new playlist you created on your iPhone
Should automatically sync it.  Again, like I said, might not be the best solution, but it worked for me.  I'm sure there's an easier way of doing it.

  • Playlist from iTunes to iPhone

How to add playlist from iTunes to my iPhone . The older version of iTunes, I was able to drag the new music playlist to my iPhone. This new version is not possible.

yoo man just had the same problem and i just figured out how to fix this issue that apple cant seem to think is necessary.... aight so your on your playlist tab and want to add dirrect songs from a playlist to your device... select whatever songs you want to add onto your phone and right click > then select add to playlist and then at the top youll see your device BUT make sure youve addded a playlist on your phone before doing this because you cant add one directly from these steps... so once youve done that youll see your music that you wanted on the playlist on your phone

  • Windows 8 and itunes problem (iphone not showing up as a device)

My new PC laptop has Windows 8 and in itunes my iphone doesn't show up as a device when I connect it to the laptop. I've tried all the fixes mentioned.

Try one or more of the following:
    - Restart your computer
    - Uninstall & Reinstall iTunes
    - Reset iPhone (will NOT delete everything) [Settings>>General>>Reset>>Reset All Settings]
    - Go to My Computer (Windows XP) or Computer (Windows Vista or 7) and see if it shows (should show as a digital camera)
    - Restore iPhone (will DELETE everything) [Settings>>General>>Reset>>Erase All Content & Settings]
    - Make sure iTunes & iOS Firmware is up to date.

  • Why do My Playlists from iTunes on MBP Not fully load on my IPHONE

I have several playlists that are on my MBP and on my Iphone. For some reason, there is an issue syncing when connected.
The playlist name syncs over the the phone but not all the songs. For example, I have one playlist that has 89 songs. When I sync it to the IPHONE, it says succesfully synced but only 31 songs are in that playlist.
I did check and all the songs are in the both libraries (on my MBP AND Iphone) but the fully play list doesn't sync over. (89 songs on MBP and 31 on Iphone).
I also erased the lists and rebuilt them but no avail.
I did check the preferences and they are checked properly (playlists etc.). I do have room on the Iphone - there are still 2 GB on my Iphone...
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated....
    Skip

Its very frustrating. I really hope someone has an answer and can help.
I am considering rebuilding my Iphone (through Itunes) but am concerned. Whenever you do that, something gets lost, etc.
I have a feeling the Apple crew knows there is a problem but won't admit it until they have it corrected with a patch. I have seen that before.

  • How can i copy a url playlist from itunes to iphone

i think i understand the basics of the music library but can't seem to figure this one out.
i want to add a playlist of url to my iphone.  works fine in itunes but for some reason i can't get it on my phone.  the phone and itunes have no actual music in the libary.  all the music is on my personal server.
i create a playlist of music that is on my server.  add that playlist to my itunes and then hit a wall.  i tried doing a full sync and manualy adding the playlist but no luck.
is this even possible?  does the iphone have to have the music file stored to have a playlist with the song in it?

that *****    i will try to find an alternate media player that will support url playlist entries.  any one in particular that you recommend?
i am able to trick itunes into thinking it has the music.  drag n drop the playlist into the music folder and the tracks are there.  but still cant get them on the phone..
too bad there is no Winamp app
    thanks for the quick reply

  • Need to recover old playlists, old iTunes library will not open because it was created by a newer version?

I have a Mac mini, have installed iTunes on it and want to find some old playlists that were lost.  I have several 'iTunes Libraries' with different dates but I cannot open any of them becauseit says they were created with a newer version of iTunes.  Please help!

Somewhere in your process you ended up with an earlier version of iTunes than was used last with the library. iTunes 10.6.3 is the highest version that will run under OSX 10.5.8
    iTunes 10.6.3.25 - http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1575
If you had an earlier version and still want that version I am not sure how to go about this.  My iTunes library file does not say it was created with a particular version, although I admit I have not looked at the .xml copy to see if it is buried in the file itself.  Apple only has a very limited number of iTunes versions openly posted, though you can still find just about any version if you look in the right places.  You would have to kind of start low and work your way up to where you want to be since once you open a library with a version it cannot be reverted to an earlier version (make backups first).

  • My smart playlists in iTunes match are not interpreting "date added" property correctly for some songs.

I have many smart playlists that are dependent upon the "date added" property of my songs. I use iTunes match on a PC, my iPad (4th gen), and my iPhone 5, and my music is stored on my iMac. For some reason, (on my iPhone only) a handful of songs stubbornly continue to appear in smart playlists even though their "date added" is much earlier than the playlists dictate. And they are the same handful of songs on all playlists that have this problem.
Turning off Live Updating resolves the problem, but then what's the point of a smart playlist if I have to continually update it manually? Turning off iTunes Match on my iPhone, deleting music, and turning iTunes Match back on does not resolve the problem.

I think I have figured this out, so I'll share in case anyone else has this issue. I had automatic downloads enabled for my iPhone, so any iTunes music purchases were automatically downloaded to my phone. As a result, the "date added" attribute of a song is tied to when it was downloaded to the phone rather than when I originally purchased the song and added it to my iTunes library.
I disabled iTunes Match, deleted these songs from my phone, re-enabled iTunes Match, and that seems to have done the trick.

  • Why are my playlists on itunes and iphone in a different order?

In itunes I have a playlist title "000" to keep it at the top of my playlists. It's where I dump new stuff I want to listen to.  However, on my iphone, that list shows up at the bottom. ***? I was hoping this would be addressed in iOS 6 but it was not.  Seems like such a strange inconsistency for Apple.  Anyone know how to fix this (other than naming it "AAA" or something like that)?

I found the answer ... You have to go to the upper most left column (above the numbers) and click to place an arrow there. That was the only playlist I didn't have an arrow showing. Once I did this, I could once again move the songs in the order I wanted.
    Yes!!! :^)

  • Smart playlist "copy to play order" not working?

I have a smart list that selects classical music pieces based on two separate criteria ("choose with words "###" or "***" in the comments into the playlist), and puts them in the playlist.
But even if the play order is displayed correctly in iTunes, once it loads onto my iPods (4th Gen Touch, and iPod Photo), the play order is randomized.
This may be tolerable with rock music, but in classical music when several movements must be played in order, it poses  a major problem.
I have re-ordered it using "Album by Title", verfied the play order in iTunes and then have chosen "Copy to Play Order".  then I sync to my iPods, but in iPod the playlist is out of order (whatever order Smart Playlist chose.. which seems rather random).
The only way to work around so far, is to create a standard playlist with a different name, and copy the contents of the Smart Playlist, order it correctly, and then chose "copy to Play Order".  But this sort of defeats the Smart Playlist...
Is there a bug?  or am I not understanding how "Copy to Play Order" works?
    I'm using 10.6.8 and iTunes 10.6.1.

What is going on here. I don't have this problem with my 3rd generation Nano (the square one with the clickwheel), but I do with the 6th gen (the square one with the touchscreen).

  • HT1689 is it possible to create music playlists on itunes for iphone? (like for Ipod). How to do this?

    Hi
I have been ignoring playing music on my iphone until now (ive been used to the good 'ol ipod, and was assuming I could do away with the ipod and just use my iphone).
But having synced my imac computer and the phone, I don't seem to be able to use playlists on the iphone's itunes app.  Is this right??  Or am I missing something ..?

The playlists should sync form your computer to your phone. When you go into music app to play the music, you should see playlist as a button on the bottom of the screen. If it is not showing try looking under the more button.

  • Itunes 10 adding playlist off itunes to iphone 5

put 70 songs on itunes fully synced everything onto iphone but playlist wont go over songs have gone onto the iphone but play list hasnt
how can i get playlist on iphone with out having to add 1 by 1 on iphone.?? i want to keep my entire library dont just want to have that 1 playlist just want to add playlist???
    Please help!!!

Still nothing, huh? Seems that iTunes has failed me. Tried many of the options listed in this group, from the iFunbox to restoring the phone, nothing has helped. I will be calling Apple tomorrow to try and get this sorted out. Thinking that my iTunes store purchases reverting back to my 2008 purchases has something to do with it. All of my purchases from 2008 and up are gone from my purchase history. Anything prior is now there as a recent purchase. This is frustrating beyond belief.

  • Syncing movies (mp4) from iTunes to iPhones not working version 2.2

Here is what I hope is the final answer to this incredibly prevalent problem, gleaned from a few PARTIAL answers, many USELESS answers, and some trial and error on my part.
    Problem:
You are getting an error message when trying to sync MP4 movies to your iPhone using iTunes. (sorry I can't repeat the error message, I can't seem to restore the warning dialog that I turned off)
    Solution:
Add the desired movie to the movies area of your iTunes application (you have already done this if you are receiving this error)
From the list view, select (regular click to highlight) the desired movie.
From the "Advanced" menu (NOT from right click as has been suggested many times), select "Create iPod or iPhone version"
Now you will wait for a long time. A progress bar will show the conversion in process.
When done, you will have two copies of the movies. One in the original location, and one in your iTunes movie folder. The newly created one will sync to your iPhone.
To determine which is the new movie either
    1) Add "Date modified" to your list view by right clicking on the column headings in the movies list panel,
    - or -
    2) Right click on either of the lines and choose "Get Info" to view the name of the folder. Delete the one which is not the newly converted one. Hopefully this will only delete it from your movie list, not from your media. That's how it worked for me. If it asks if you want to move it to the recycle bin, you may have deleted the wrong one.
After it is done, attach and select the iPhone device. Go to the video tab and scroll down to "movies". Check/uncheck the appropriate boxes for your movie(s) and hit "apply". Your movie(s) should now properly sync the phone.
You do NOT need new software (for an MP4 movie)
"Convert to iPhone" is NOT on the context menu
Itunes will lock up for part of this process

That didnt work, and there was no conversion bar. Ever since the new software update, my two iphones will not sync movies, and the older iphone will also not sync the music now. What is the point of having these?
