Playlist deleting problems?

This is the very first time I am using itunes and the ipod so I am not familiar with the workings of both and reading the help files is not helping for certain things. First problem is that whenever I import a new playlist from itunes into the ipod, whatever playlists were there before in the ipod is now gone?
I looked at the Preferences in itunes and the only option I am seeing which makes any reference to "auto syncing" is located in the "Devices" tab in itunes preferences.
I have the "Disable automatic syncing for iphones and ipods" option checked, is there any other setting for this anywhere or is there an option for this in the ipod itself?
Also, if an ipod's playlist cannot be deleted from within the ipod then how can it be deleted please?

Hey there,
For instructions on how to delete playlists, I would check out this Apple support document. Should be able to help you out.
[Adding and Deleting Songs and playlists from your iPod|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1855]
Here is more help on syncing playlists and how to manage them between iTunes and your iPod. It should also be very helpful. Hope it is.

  • Two Related (?) file deleting problems in Finder and Time Machnine

My internal drive is partition into two volumes. In the second one (the "non-boot" one), I was have trouble putting files in the trash that were locked. As I was tracking that down I coincidentally(?) started having another problem.
I started getting a message that the files being put into the trash must be deleted immediately. I check permissions and I had read/write Privileges in the user account I'm normally logged into. However, If I logged into my administrator account, I could put things in the trash without deleting them. I noticed that ignore ownerships wasn't checked, so I checked that.
That allowed my to put files into the trash without immediately deleting them. I went ahead and deleted the files I wanted to get rid of. However, I'm wondering if there was another issue because I am lead to understand that the ownership privileges shouldn't have necessitated checking "ignore ownerships"?
Also, I had trouble deleting the backups of those files and folders in time machine. I can delete most of it. But for one folder (and all the folders in which it resides in the hierarchy) I can't deleted it. I tell it to delete backups of that folder (or folders it is in), I put in the password, and goes "ding". But nothing disappears...
(After I wrote this, I tried unchecking "ignore ownerships" and the problem did not reappear. I can still put files in the trash without the immediate deletion problem.)

Are you doing that via the Finder or Terminal? If so, that's not the way to delete backups. See #12 in [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of the +Time Machine+ forum).
And now I'm getting an error in time machine. "Files can't be copied onto the backup disk because it appears to be "read only"". I do get info on the disk, and my account has Read & Write privleges, but it say "You can only read" above that".
The Finder or Terminal deletions may have corrupted your backups. Repair them, per #A5 in [Time Machine - Troubleshooting|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Troubleshooting.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of the +Time Machine+ forum).

I'm doing the deletion through Time Machine (I go into Time Machine, find the folder in the backup, and ask Time machine to delete all backups of that folder).
I did find the tip of unmounting the disk, rebooting, and remounting it. That Stopped messages about the disk being read only. However, the folder still doesn't delete. I'm also a bit worried about these being symptoms of some other problem...

  • Why are all playlists deleted when closing itunes ver 11

Since installing the latest update for iTunes, version 11, all playlist delete when I close iTunes.  I have recreated my playlists six times and am now working on number 7.  What's wrong?  Can I save the playlists to an external drive and simply copy them back when this happens?

If you have AppleCare on your iPhone then call Apple, it's baically the only way you will get help on that front. Tell them about the issues. After a little while of trouble shooting they should pass you to a senior technician.
What trouble shooting have you done?
If you haven't done so already, Apple will request you to do it while they have you on the phone. Also, do not restore from a backup, set it up as a new device.

  • Syncing and deleting problems

OK. i just got an itouch. and at first it didnt let me sync. i could only drag and drop my music.then i changed that, but now i have to synce all my music which takes hours and it no longer lets me drag and drop. and also now i cant delete from my ipod. can someone please help? this is quite frustrating.
    thank you.

*now i have to synce all my music which takes hours and it no longer lets me drag and drop. and also now i cant delete from my ipod*
How you delete content from your iPod depends how you have it set to update:
If you are updating automatically (syncing) all songs and playlists then delete the files from the iTunes library. In the iTunes Library highlight the file and press the delete key on your keyboard. If you're updating the iPod from a selected playlist delete the song from the playlist and it will remain in the library. Next time you connect they will deleted automatically from your iPod.

  • IPod playlists delete?!

So, I have an iPod touch, and I had like 15 playlists.  But, after a while they start to delete without me doing anything (that I know of).  I add more, or remake the ones I lost, but if I don't listen to them for a while, they dissapear.  It kind of makes me dissapointed, because I really liked some of my playlists.   Does my iPod do this on purpose - as part of personalizing my music for me, does it automatically delete the playlists if I don't use them for a while?   Thanks!

I kept running into bad synchs with iTunes and the Mini - I finally just wiped the ipod, carefully set up the playlists again and updated the Mini. No problems since then. If it's a playlist that's only on your iPod, then whenever you update, it's going to delete them to match iTunes.

  • Automatic (intelligent) Playlist Sync Problems

    Hi,
I am using iPhone 4S running on iOS 8.2 and Itunes for Windows 12.1.1.4 and I have got problem with a special playlist.
I have defined a playlist like this:
Track, which have not been played for more than 2 year
    and
have got rating for more than 3 stars and genre is not like pop.
The playlist is working on itunes fine and selects files according to definition. If I play a song on iTunes this sone will be removed from this list on iTunes. This works perfect.
iTunes even syncs this ist to my iPhone without any mistake.
When I play one song on my iPhone from this list the playlist recognizes that I have played this song and is reducing the amount of songs after playing each song. At least I have heard all songs and now my problem is starting.
iTunes does not recognize that I have played these songs on my iPhone and does not update the playlist at iTunes for the on the iPhone played songs.
It seems that there is a sync problem from iOS 8.2 to iTunes 12.1.1.4
Does anybody have got any idea how to fix this problem?
    Any help would be appriciated.
    CU
    Christian

You can make a playlist of your own and set the option yourself. Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -My iPod for example (the dash will position it at the top of the playlists in Sources). You can make it a smart playlist that picks the songs for you or just a normal one and drag whatever content you want to have into the playlist. If you are making a smart playlist limit it to just less than the size of your iPod. Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod:
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
    Syncing Music to iPod
To make a random playlist go to File>New Smart Playlist.
    Uncheck "Match the following rule"
Check "Limit to" put the size of the playlist you want to sync in the number box, choose "MB" or "GB" from the first list box, choose "Random" from the next list box. Check "Live Updating"
When you want to change the selection in the smart playlist just delete everything in it and it will add a new selection. When you want to change the normal playlist just delete out what you don't want and drag in a new selection.

  • Smart Playlist Synch Problem

Okay, so this might be the dumbest problem ever to a lot of people, but when I synch my iPhone to my music, it synch's the top 25 most played playlist...when I look at it in iTunes it's fine, but when I try to listen to it on my iPhone there are completely different songs on it, I've tried doing the 'copy to play order' function and then syncing it (I used to have to do with with my iPod in order to get the most recent songs on the playlist), and I've tried completely deleting the playlist, syncing it, recreating the playlist and syncing it again...and still it doesn't work...
...It doesn't seem like much but it's important to me, if anyone knows what I'm doing wrong please let me know, thank you!

    Welcome to the forums.
You're probably not doing anything wrong -- folks are reporting some issues with smart playlists. Try this -- create another smart list but as the criteria only use "Playlist is" and then select your playlist you are trying to transfer. Transfer only this new one.
Also set "live updating" to off -- shouldn't need to but it's worth a try.

  • Resetting playlist deletion confirmation

When i first got itunes i didn't use playlists very much, so the first time it asked me "are you sure" when i wanted to delete one, I checked "Do not ask me again" or whatever. Now I use them more and I want to avoid accidental deletion, but how do I turn the delete confirmation back on? Thanks
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   768MB RAM

I quit iTunes, moved the .plist file, restarted iTunes, and like you said.. it prompted me with all those questions you get when you run it for the first time ("Do you want iTunes to look for music in your Home folder?" to which I said "no", and "Do you want iTunes to keep your Music folder organized?" to which I said "yes", etc.).
All my playlists and songs were still there. The only problem I saw was that after iTunes updated my songs (presumably because I answered "yes" to the second question above), hundreds of little exclamation points showed up next to most of my songs (the one that means "file not found"). I suspect this might be because much of my library's contents are located on an external hard drive.
I started over, deleting the file again and this time clicking "Cancel" as soon as the first "welcome window" appeared. The update step was skipped, and everything else looked normal (except for the presence of the annoying ministore panel which I have always had minimized...). But even though none of the exclamation points were there initially, as soon as i tried to play any that had had them in my last attempt, they would come up "file not found".
So if i'm right, I have two options: keep the fresh .plist file and enjoy deletion confirmation to my heart's content... or replace the old one and be back where I started. I tried this last and found that all my old preferences were there (boo!) but it had no problem locating all my songs (yay!).
    Any ideas?

  • Playlists delete everytime iPhone and iPod are plugged into iTunes

I'm not sure if it's a setting in iTunes or what, but whenever I plug my iPhone 4 AND my iPod touch into iTunes, all of my playlists are deleted. My iPhone 4 is running 4.2.6 and iPod is on 4.2.1, neither are running altered or jailbroken software. Running iTunes 10.1.2.17. Music is set to manually manage.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
    You said:
No, I do not want to "factory reset" my iPod. No I do not wish to do anything crazy long or hard to fix this.
That may be necessary, It is not what you want to do/not do but what is required to resolve your problem.

  • Playlist removal problem

when i go to my music on my iphone or macbook pro itunes,we have the playlists recently added , my top rated, recently played, top 25 most played, 90's music, and purchased etc. how do i permanently delete those playlist without deleting my music? for example, the "my top rated", i used to have songs with 5 stars and i took the stars off and all the songs have 0 stars AND that playlist is empty but it is still there. so how can i delete it? its just a empty pointless playlist along with the others i want to delete. please help?

In case anyone else hits the same problem I managed to fix it.
I noticed the playlist was still listed in iTunes Music Library.xml even though I coundn't see it in iTunes so I deleted iTunes Library.itl (after backing it up of course!), let iTunes create a new one and then imported from the xml file.
The playlist was then visible in iTunes again and I was able to delete it and at the the next sync it was gone from my iPod and all was back to normal!

  • Help: iTunes completely reset itself, eliminating half of my purchased playlist, deleting all my podcast files, etc.  No idea why this happened and how can I fix it?

    Hello.
I did not touch my computer the past week, I've only been messing with my laptop.  I had my computer off a whole day.  I turn it on, open iTunes, and everything is gone.
I system restore.  Everything is gone.  None of my podcasts, apps, or music files are there.  My iPod itself is fine.  I restore back to current settings, still, everything gone.
I plug my iPod in.  I don't think it took anything off my iPod, but even without syncing, it eliminated a ton of the songs on my iPod from my 'purchased' playlist.  Now, these songs will not transfer back over to iTunes because iTunes is not recognizing them as official songs.  Is there a link to download/redownload your past purchases again?  I was trying to find that but had no luck. (Also my iTunes purchase history is incorrect and has at least 1 omitted song I paid for, but that is another story for another day).  I want these songs to transfer to my library so I can put them on a future iPod I bought.
I do things the legal way, I do not illegally get any music.  I've bought 800 to 1000 songs from iTunes over the year (now that is a lot of money).  Now my iPod is listing it as only 600 and some.  This is my second iPod and the second time I've had major issues with the iPod just going crazy on me.  I won't stick with Apple if I get screwed out of songs I have paid for.
Anyways, from what I have described, does anyone know what is up?  Directions on where to go to download all past purchases?  Ideas?
The only potentially bad thing I've done with iTunes at all is I delay updating it as long as possible.  I hadn't updated the most recent update for a few months now.  Still, that is no reason for the system to go ape **** on me.  I am fairly certain at this point that *all* my songs are still on my iPod, but as I said, if this one all of a sudden died or I wanted to get a new one, I'm looking at half my actually bought songs being non-transferrable.
    Thanks for any response.

Is your laptop a different computer than your computer?
    You have two computers?
iTunes is missing everything from which one/both?
I system restore.  Everything is gone.  None of my podcasts, apps, or music files are there.
Do you mean you reinstalled the system from scratch?
Yes, that tends to delete everything.
Or you restored everything from a backup?
Directions on where to go to download all past purchases?
Selete Store on the left side of iTunes.
Make sure you are signed in.
Click on Purchased on the right side under Quick links to redownlaod your purchases.
Then make sure to regularly backup, backup, backup all your important data .

  • Data request deletion problem from remote system.

    Hi experts.
Now i am facing one critical problem . The description is as following:
we design the edw level in one phsical BW machine(A) which contains only dso infoprovider. This machine(A) works as datasource to provide data to another physical BW machine(B).
The dso in A system is exported as datasource , Cubes in B system load data through this datasource .
We first do the initialization with data contained on B system and then load delta data from A system. But if we want to delete some request in system A ,the system indicate this request can not be deleted unless the initialization in system B is deleted( this will lead to all the data missing in system B).
Can anyone explain this mechanism to me , please help me suggesting some kind of methods to delete the request in system A without deleting the initialization information in system B.
    Thanks in advance.
Waiting online for your kindly reply.

    1. Ask your Basis to look into it.
    2. try analyse your Baqckground Process in SM51.
    3. Is your Deletion Job started immediately or any Delay?
    4. If That cube or ODS has only this request which you are deleting, go with Context Menu Cube or ODS (by right click) --> Delete Contents.
Delete Contents will improve performence compare to Request Deletion..
If you have request more than this, you should not go for this.

  • Ipod playlists deleted since synched to itunes

created 6 new playlists for my ipod from my ipod since updated to iOS 4. connected to itunes to load music from cd and disconnected to find that all my playlists have been deleted. oh im real ******.

Check out PodWorks 2.8.5 You can read about it here: Version Tracker It is shareware but only 8 bucks and will download from the iPod all the music and meta data including star ratings, play counts etc. 8 bucks would have to be preferable to manually re-entering the ratings.
The reviews are mostly positive and there are 103 of them.

  • Playlist shuffle problems

I'm having issues with playlist shuffling on my iPhone 4, and the only discussion I found with the same problem remained unanswered.  I have a playlist of various classical music that I want to shuffle randomly, and it won't.  If I play it in order, all 53 songs will play and can repeat in order.  If I select "Shuffle" from the list of songs, or if I hit the blue "shuffle" icon on the cover art, it changes from "1 of 53" to either "1 of 8" or "1 of 9" (depending on which song happens to be playing).  The smaller groups don't seem to be based by artist or by album, but I can't get it to shuffle all 53 songs. I tried making a smart playlist by genre, and I tried making the playlist manually.  Nothing seems to work.  I have another mixed playlist with various artists and multiple albums, and it functions normally: I can get it to shuffle randomly through all 51 songs across albums and artists no problem.  There must be some property of the music files or the playlists that I'm missing that's causing this bug, but I'm at my wit's end.  Any suggestions?

Do all the songs in your playlist have a check in the box to the left of each song's name?  Songs without a check will be ignored unless specifically selected to play. If you don't see the checkboxes, go to iTunes > Preferences > General and check "Show list checkboxes".
To check or uncheck all boxes on a Mac with one click, hold down the Command (cmd) key and click on one of the checkboxes with the mouse.  You can use this in a library, a playlist or in search results.
If the check marks are not the source of your problem, select one of the songs that won't play when shuffling. Open the song's information window (cmd + I or File > Get Info) and click the Options tab. Check that "Skip when shuiffling" is not checked.
