Playlist folder problem

Hello!
In my iTunes library, I have a special folder for playlists that I automatically sync to my iPod, to separate them from my regular computer playlists.
However, starting this past week, some of songs that I have removed from the iPod playlists, still show the folder when I right click on them. I wonder why an empty folder is visible even though they've been removed?
It's a bit difficult to explain (English isn't my native language), so I've included a screen shot:
Also, starting about a week ago, some songs no longer show the folders at all, just the playlists. Have I done something wrong?
This is the correct listing, which most of the songs still use, showing the folders:
And this is the incorrect listing, without folders, that recently added songs show:
Thanks in advance for your help.

I had similary issues after I moved from Media Player. As Windows is fery file and folder centric and the OS is closely tied to media it was natural to browse and play media directly from the OS inteface.
With iTunes as someone has already noted you have great control over the playlist from the library itself.
You can create as many playlists as you wish. You can select any tracks that you wish to have in a play list and drag them into the playlist folder. Once in the folder you can change their play order, sort or skip over tracks.
In the 7.x versions there are even sub folders. So you can have a Star Wars master folder with individual sound tracks or later recordings. When you select the master folder all the subfolders appear in the library browser pane.
From within iTunes if you want to jump to the actual windows folder that a track is located in just select the track and pres Ctrl-R. A windows folder will pop up.
The best ting about this method is that you can have the same tracks in many playlists.

  • ITunes 11 - Dragging unselected playlists to playlist folder?

I created a playlist folder so I can organize my playlists better, but after dragging a few playlists into the folder it begins to drag playlists that I did NOT select. There's nothing wrong with my eyes, I've recreated this problem multiple times and it horrible because you cannot drag playlists back OUT of the folders. Is anyone else experiencing this? I am on a Mac, not Windows btw..

Yes.  iTunes on my Mac has exactly the same problem, and at least one of my friends confirmed that they have observed the problem, too.  I'm guessing that 99% of iTunes users have simply never try to drag-and-drop playlists.  Otherwise, there would be a riot about this.  Moving a *different* playlist than the one that was dragged is quite literally the most egregious UI bug that I have ever seen in professionally-written software.  And it's also one of the most frustrating because I know of no other way to move playlists to a different folder.
But let's be clear about one thing: dragging playlists out to the top level is a different issue that has been an annoyance for years.  Yes, it can be done, but you have to find a spot where the little blue line appears, and the area where that line appear is usually so small that, unless you have the steadiness of an open-heart surgeon in your mouse-hand, the line will probably have disappeared by the time you release the mouse button.

  • Selecting any Playlist Folder lists the entire music library

I recently switched to a new computer from an old one (both were XP Professional, iTunes version was not completely up-to-date on the older computer) and after migrating the old iTunes library and reconfiguring automatic playlists dependent on others, I found myself with a problem. Some of my playlists didn't show correct information, and after poking around for some time, I noticed every playlist folder, once selected or added as a dependency on an automatic playlist, listed the entire music library. Most of my affected playlists now depend on a workaround, and automatic playlist that corresponds to whatever the folders are supposed to list. This, however, is extremely inconvenient as I have one folder containing easily over a hundred playlists, the number of which increases nearly daily. As it happens, I have several playlists dependent of this folder. There is no workaround I can think of short of creating an automatic playlist with over a hundred separate rules, updated as the playlists grow.
    Help would be appreciated.

I'm not quite sure how a screenshot would illuminate the issue. I can, however, try to explain this in simpler terms.
I have my playlists in their folders (the sort created by selecting File -> New Playlist Folder). I imported (through File -> Library -> Import Playlist) my music library from an other computer. The playlist folders imported showed every item in my library (automatic playlists didn't). Apparently, moving any playlist out of a folder fixes this problem.

  • Geetting mp3s to show up in my Podcast playlist/folder

Is there a way I can get mp3's I've put on my Touch to appear in my Podcast playlist/folder?
I have a number of podcasts I don't get through iTunes that I copy on to my Touch in a custom playlist weekly. So they go into my Music playlist/folder.
I can switch the Media Kind to Podcast through iTunes, in which case they are treated like a podcast when I play them (speed controls, bookmarking, etc. - which is what I want), but I can no longer delete them from my Music playlist/folder when I'm done (they aren't there). I have to change them back to a Music Media Kind first, and then they show up.
I presume that if I could get them to show up in the Podcast playlist/folder, I could delete them there just like a podcast downloaded through iTunes.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I have a similar problem.
I have a bunch of MP3 and MP4 music files on my computer... pretty sure they are podcasts and not single music files.
But when I sync my iPod to my PC, under the iTunes Library the files show up as Music and not as Podcasts as I'd like. Is that how it's supposed to work? I already have one file (MP3 downloaded first from my computer) that correctly shows up as a podcast.
Or only do podcasts I get through iTunes get sorted into the Podcasts folder?

  • Delete songs from a playlist folder?

I am trying to delete some songs from a playlist folder. Songs won't delete from any folder, regardless of whether i am in itunes 10 or the newly installed itunes 12. The delete function is greyed out. In playlists, yeah I can delete songs. But in folders, no deletion capability. What am I doing wrong?
    thx
    John

A playlist folder shows the union of all of the tracks in its component playlists and/or playlist folders. To remove a track from a playlist folder it must be removed from any contained playlist where it appears.

  • A Playlist folder full of a lot of important playlists is no longer visible in iTunes

To complicate matters, a few months ago I moved my entire iTunes library to an external hard drive, and that is not backed up by Time Machine.  But, the folder was there after I moved all the files.  It just recently seemed to disappear.  Is there a way to recover the playlists from the files on my hard drive right now, or do I need to recover an older version from Time Machine Backup?  I've looked for discussion threads for help on this with no success.  How can I get all the playlists to return?

You could have moved the playlist folder inside another one. This would not generate a warning message wheras deleting one would.
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library(.itl) as iTunes Library (Corrupt)(.itl) and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library(.itl). Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See MusicFolder Files Not Added and Super Remove Dead Tracks for tools to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.

  • Folder problems on external drive, not showing correct file size

I've run across a strange problem. I'm media managing for a tv show, meaning I'm offloading video from CF cards onto 2 external drives, one is a Drobo Raid (set up for backup) and another is a Lacie rugged drive. After copying the media to both drives, the folder I copy will match, but sometimes as I drill upward in my folder structure, suddenly the file sizes will not match. To be more clear: 2 folders will show differing file sizes, but inside that folder is only another folder, nothing else, which matches across the drives. I've shown all files in finder and there's no hidden files, though sometimes I see the ds_store files are different sizes (8k vs 16k), but that's not always the case. Sometimes if I simply create a new folder and move it's contents into it I can get the folders to match, but sometimes that doesn't work. It's part of my workflow to show that these copies match exactly via screenshots, and although the most important folder (the direct folder holding the footage) always matches, these folder problems are super frustrating as it's not constant, and any workarounds also work inconsistantly.
I had an accidental disconnect of the Drobo one time, and although none of the data seems to have any problem, I fear it's done something to the directory. The rugged drive is swapped out every few days and the problem seems to be on the Drobo. Because the nature of the data is pretty important, I'm afraid to just try messing around with repairing or other software solutions unless I know it's super safe and won't harm the data.
I'm at a loss as to what's causing it and at the very least how to avoid it cropping up. Any help or insight would be appreciated!

I had the same problem with my iMac, first I repaired the disk, then I ejected the disk, restarted, and then reinserted the USB in a different port.  All of my files magically showed up.  I don't know what caused the error but it has been working fine since.

  • Radio station playlist not showing up in Playlist folder

    Hello,
    I am using iTunes 10.2.1.1
I have a Playlist Folder titled Night. In this folder i have a Smart Playlist containing any podcasts where plays = 0. This allows me to listen to all of my new podcasts for each day.
Also in the Folder is a playlist titled Radio, in which i have a radio stream.
When i click on the Playlist Folder however, only the Podcasts show up in the view. I have had this working before where it would show all new Podcasts and then the radio stream but now for some reason it is no longer working correctly.
Can anyone help get it back to correctly displaying my new podcasts PLUS the radio stream when i click the Playlist Folder?

    Please delete thread

  • Playlist folder Question

Hi can anyone tell why i cant copy a playlist from one playlist folder to another playlist folder? if i drag and drop a playlist it show the green + sign but just moves the playlist
    any ideas
    Thanks Ronny

    Because you can't copy playlists.
Create a new playlist then drag the songs from the original to the new one.

  • HT1391 Purchases show in the Playlist folder /Purchases, but not anywhere else in the Library Album, etc: - how do you get them to show there?

Songs that I have purchased and downloaded show in the Playlist folder under "Purchased", but not in the Library under Artist, Album etc:.  What do I need to do to have them show under Artist, etc;?

Download the free iTunes Single of the Week...
Sounds a bit voodoo I know, but it has a good strike rate.

  • Is there any way to play all songs in a playlist folder on an iPod/iPhone?

iTunes allows you to play all songs from a specific playlist folder, but so far I haven't figured out a way to do that on my iPhone (4s, 32gb). Is there a way?

I agree that it seems crazy that this can't be done on an iPhone.
Here is the best work around I have found so far.
(It's much quicker and easier to do than to describe.)
In outline, you make an elementary Automator patch
that uses your playlist folder to create a hard coded playlist on iTunes
then just sync across to your iPhone.
1/ Run Automator on your Mac.
2/ In the Automator library select 'Music'.
3/ Under Actions for 'Music' select "Get specified iTunes items" and drag this into the workflow area.
4/ Using the  "Get specified iTunes items" widget  in the workflow area, press the "add" button.
5/ This allows you to choose from a menu that will include your playlist folder.
6/ Now under Actions for Music select "Add songs to playlist" and drag this into the workflow area
so that the results of the first widget will feed into it.
7/ In the  "Add songs to playlist" widget choose "New playlist". Then enter any name for your new playlist.
8/ Run the patch (takes a fraction of a second).
9/ Sync generated playlist to iphone.
    Job done.

  • My Ipod Touch can't create a Playlist Folder in My Itunes

Anyone managed to create Playlist folder in you Ipod Touch to combine all similar Genres into 1 folder? Now my I-Touch is already having huge playlist because I can't organize it. Please Help. Thanks.

Because not all MP3s are having all this information. Another thing is, the default view of Ipod is the list of all playlists, it is very easy if you will organize all the songs base on the Artist Name (using folder) and put all your albums inside the folder. Or Folder by Genre -> inside is Folder by Artists -> and inside is By Albums. Thanks.

  • "Show In Playlist" shows every playlist folder

I restored my very large library this week (related to my iPod Classic freezing). I dumped the itl file, started iTunes and imported my Library. After this process was done I noticed that when I right-click a song to see what playlists it is in, the pop up displays EVERY playlist folder in my Library. The individual playlists that the song is actually in are also displayed, but this huge list of folders obscures where they are. I am an old hand at iTunes and have never seen this. Coincidentally, when I select any playlist folder in the playlist column it displays a song count equal to my whole library (as opposed to just the count of all the songs in the playlists inside the folder). What happened and how can I fix it?
In the screen shot below, the selected song is in 4 playlists (circled), but all playlist folders are displayed.

    Update:
A day after I posted this, iTunes somehow self-corrected and the display of Playlists went back to normal. I'm glad I documented it for posterity though.

  • Can't move playlist folder

In previous version of iTunes I think I used to be able to create playlist folders and move them around to create a folder hierarchy in my iTunes sidebar.
Now in iTunes 10.1 I just created a new playlist folder. By dragging it I can *only place it inside other folders*. I cannot place it "in-between" other folders.
    What gives???

Chris, you are right that playlist folders are sorted alphabetically.
However, I found a way to create the hierarchy I want: When I need a playlist folder inside another folder, I have to first select the parent folder, then choose File>New Playlist folder. The new playlist appears inside the selected folder.
My gripe is that there is no mechanism to move a playlist folder up in the folder hierarchy!

  • On MacBook 10.6, in iTunes 10.3.1, music downloaded from CD, copied from Recently Added, pasted into named New Playlist Folder, is displayed there but can then disappear from this folder. What am I doing wrong?

QUESTION:     On MacBook 10.6.7, in iTunes 10.3.1, music downloaded from CD, copied from Recently Added, pasted to named New Playlist Folder, is displayed as a list but can later disappear. What am I doing wrong?

    Hi, Mylenium,
Thanks for your prompt reply, I'm afraid it hasn't helped. I don't see anything wrong in my device manager.
I have also gone and updated every driver, especially the motherboard chipset and the Sata Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver.
Unfortunately, this hasn't made any difference.
    Any other suggestions?
    Many thanks in advance!
    Hugo
