Playlist IPod Sorting issues.

Hi, I am having problems copying my playlist over to my IPod. I do not like listening to music lists according to alpha order, I instead create a flow of music for whatever I do. Unfortunately when I drag my playlist (which has all of my music in the exact order I want it to play) to my IPod, Everything is auto sorted to either album or artist or w/e column is highlighted.
This unfortunately does not allow me to play my music in the order I have specified in my playlist.
Help meh =D

Hello there,
And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Make sure each of these tracks aren't marked as *Part of a compilation* from under the Info tab of the *Get Info* window in iTunes. If they are, remove the tick mark and sync the updated changes to your iPod. Any luck there?

  • Playlist sorting issue?

My songs won't match the order they are put in on itunes when a sorting choice is reversed..... why? This used to work before.
    Here are the details:
If I set a playlist to sort by title, it works when it is on A at the top. But if I click title again, so that the list is now setup so that A is at the bottom, it won't sync correctly. Same thing is true with other ways of sorting the playlists. I click on Date Added so that the oldest songs added are on the top, sync, and it works/syncs correctly on my ipod, but then when i click Date Added again so that the most recently added songs are at the top, sync, and it doesn't work (oldest songs are still at top when I want the newest added ones....).

Sort it the way you want, then right-click on the playlist name and click Copy to Play Order.

  • Ipod smart playlist not sorting right.

I'm not sure if this is because of the iOS 7 update but before the update. I was able to sort my music by Date Added and start my music from newer music I would download. After the iOS 7 update my playlist on the ipod sorts by Date Added but starts from older music and I have to scroll all the way down to the new stuff. If this would be address in a new update that would be awesome!

Thanks. I didn't see the drop down menu to pick "unplayed Podcasts" from. It should do the same thing as the Smart Playlist I created. I did get some of the Podcasts in the Smart Playlist uploaded to my iPod, just not all of them. Now that I look at the ones that were uploaded, it appears that the ones that were uploaded were ones that I had downloaded directly from websites and not ones that were downloaded via iTunes Music Store (subscritions). So it appears that iTunes has a way of identifying them as Podcastats other than the Genre. OK it is done now and it still missed some Podcasts that were in the Smart list. It looks like it may have only picked the ones that I have subscribed to via Music Store (makes sense). This is a PAIN. Why not just let us use Smart Playlists for Podcasts?? Why can't we just use podcasts just like any other "track/song"? Just identify them by Genre.

  • Front Row sorting issues

    Hello,
I know this issue has been posted several times and without any real solutions. But I'm going to ask again anyway in case the magical hacking gnomes have found a work-around.
I have many sorting issues. There seems to be a lot of kvetching on here already about how Front Row sorts TV shows. But not only do my shows come up backwards within seasons, in some cases seasons themselves are out of order. For example, I have all 3 seasons of 30 Rock (purchased through iTMS) and they go season 1, season 3, season 2. Several other shows with multiple seasons are the same.
But I also have a music sorting issue. The first part of this issue has to do with compilations. I've got several compilations in my library, and in iTunes I've sorted them by Various Artists rather than individual artists. In Front Row, if I scroll down to "V," there is no "Various Artists" like you might expect but instead a list of all the artists in all the compilations completely out of order. (Actually, they're ordered by their track number on the different albums. Yeah. That makes sense.) I could deal with these artists showing up in their normal places alphabetically, but not all lumped together under V.
The other issue has to do with albums with one artist who has some tracks that feature other artists. Kanye West's "Graduation" is a good example. About half the tracks on the album are him "featuring Jamie Foxx," for example. So I put "Kanye West" in the sort field of this album so it displays properly in iTunes. Not only does this seem to have no effect on how things are sorted in Front Row, but there's actually multiple "Kanye West"s now, each one identical, as well as multiple "Kanye West feat. Jamie Foxx," lines and all the other multiple artist track. Uh...what?
So I know that Front Row for some ridiculous reason is (a) not customizable and (b) operates under completely different sorting rules than iTunes (which makes no sense), but if anyone has any advice or tips or comments or whatever, that would be greatly appreciated.
I've considered switching to a different media management program, but what I like about Front Row is its simplicity. I don't really feel like learning a whole new system (let alone getting my wife to buy into that idea). I've got better ways to spend my time. So, it's a trade off, I guess.
Anyway, Apple Gods? Are you out there? Are you listening?

I can't believe we're still banging on about the sorting problems. Apple have seen fit to provide a number of features to allow the user to get iTunes working the way they like, e.g. grouping compilation artists and the use of sort fields. I think you can now even keep compilation artists grouped on the iPod. But why oh why do they then totally ignore this for the AppleTV and Front Row (which look like the same codebase to me)?
I have hundreds of genuine Artists that I want to see listed in the Artists' list, but not the thousands of others that appear on compilations. They don't even sort the artists by the Artist Sort field that they themselves provide in iTunes. This makes a nonsense of trying to use either the ATV or Front Row.
Playlists are no help as they simply lump all contained tracks in one great list. Useless.
The annoying thing is, they can get it right. iTunes just gets better and better in this regard, each release sorting out more of the omissions of earlier versions. But ATV and Front Row - nope, nothing. Still just as stupid as always. Just what will it take to convince Apple to 'sort' (ha) this out? How can they justify such entirely different ways of working on their different products?

  • How do you control playlist song sorting?

how do you control playlist song sorting?
in itunes - i set the iPOD playlist to sort by name - but it sorts in some random way when disconnected - on it's own..
BTW: I created this by making the playlist manual in iPOD in itunes then dragging in songs to it from itunes....
QL how do i get it to sort the iPOD playlist songs by name?

In iTunes, right-click on one of the songs in your playlist, then select 'Copy to play order'.

  • IPhone missing out letters in iPod sorting

    Hello there everyone,
Since 4.1 my iPhone groups the letters J and K in the iPod sorting list. Artists starting with one of those letters are only to be found under the letter K. Is this an iOS 4.1 problem?
    Thank you.

    (iPhone 4, FW 4.1)
I had the same problem, missing J and Q in artists, songs and albums and everything starting with those letters was under K and R. I know this happened after I started using CopyTrans on a PC running Win 7, since my Macbook Pro which I normally use was in the shop. From reading different forums I have concluded that missing Js and Qs is quite specific and totally different from if you have other letters missing or even if none are missing just some of your titles are under the wrong letter (I have had this happen on my old iPod Touch 1st Gen and just renaming twice helped in that situation but this was on some really old FW, like 3.1.1 or something).
The way I fixed the J/Q issue was by starting iTunes on the same computer that I had used CopyTrans on and played a random song in order to initiate a sync (I didn't want to press the sync button since I've had very bad experiences with using that ** button, keep in mind that I have always used "manually manage"), waited for the sync to finish and all was back to normal. J and Q reappeared, all the titles were properly organized and none of my songs or apps or anything was deleted. I guess CopyTrans probably makes the iPod apps database bug out.
Once again this is definitely the solution if you have used CopyTrans (and I'm pretty sure any other programs like that), if you are using iTunes only and are missing _J and Q_ then from what I've read an update should fix the problem.

  • Playlists not sorted right in iOS5

after installing iOS 5, my playlists are not sorted the way they are in iTunes, for example I got an intelligent playlist with a couple of rules, and sorted by "rating".
Then on iPhone 4, the playlist is sorted on another way, really weird bug cause if I display in iTunes the playlist inside the devide while plugged into the computer it shows as expected but on the go it's totally different.
I tried syncing it again and rebooting the device.

Do matters improve if you update to iPhoto 9.4.1?
    iPhoto 9.4.1
From the release notes for the new version:
    What's New in Version 9.4.1
Improves the reliability of syncing to iOS devices via iTunes
Fixes an issue that could cause iPhoto to quit unexpectedly when using the Export command
Addresses an issue that could cause iPhoto to quit unexpectedly when upgrading multiple books, cards, and calendars

  • IPod Sorting

I know this question has probably been asked a dozen or more times, but, I'm gonna dig it up anyway, sorry.
The way I have my files sorted/tagged on my computer is so I can sort on my iPod
    genre > artist > album.
Just recently I went on a ramped MP3 renaming mission and re-tagged my MP3s so if there are multiple artists in a song it will say X feat. Y, but I have the Album Artist block filled in with the main artist. Now, my ipod sorts the albums correctly, but, the artist section, after choosing a genre, is a mess of lots of artists that connect to the same album. x feat. a, x feat. b, x feat. c, etc. that all connect to the album by x.
I know I can create compilations, but, I hate how the ipod then sorts these albums under a different area. I really want to be able to still go genre>artist>album.
Is there ANY way possible to sort the ipod by Album Artist instead of Artist in order to have the same genre>artist>album setup as I did before and avoid the whole, "use the compilation" tagging which then separates the albums and doesn't allow me to select via my preferred browsing method?

Thanks, I was hoping that this feature would finally be improved or 'fixed'. I used to have everything in the Title but then felt like the title was cluttered and moved it to where it should be. No biggie, somewhat disappointing, but not the worst thing in the world. I use MP3Tag, so, I'll find a script that will just move it all back.

  • Sorting issue after upgrade from 9i to 10g

    Dear all,
It is found that the sorting behavior is different after upgrade from 9i to 10g.
In 9i, even if the SQL statement does not specify the ORDER BY clause, the sorting order is consistent for a particular SQL statement and most likely the sequence follows the searched key fields' order.
After upgrade to 10g, the query output could vary as long as the SQL statement does not specify the ORDER BY clause.
Is it due to the Reverse Docid Sorting issue? How can I troubleshoot this issue?
    Thanks for your help,
    M.T.

    Thanks for your help,
M.T. This is expected behavior in 10g. Oracle will not order the dataset for you unless and until you explicitly specify it.
So without using order by clause in 10g, oracle doesn't guarantee that rows will be ordered.
To go back to old behavior like 9i, you can set a workaround by
    alter session set "_newsort_enabled"=false;

  • Query as a web service Sorting issue

    Hi All,
We have designed an existing BI query as a web service but it seems to be ignoring the Sort order of different characteristics used (as defined in Bex Query Designer).
Using the Context menu in QAAS and defining/managing the Sort is not working.
Has anyone experienced such an issue and how to handle this?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Bansi

    Hi All,
You can try this solution. It has something to do with the universe parameter, END_SQL.
I implemented this as a work around and it solved our problem about the sorting issue with QAAWS.
    Here are the steps:
    1: Open the universe
    2. Ope File,  then Universe Parameter
    3. Click the parameter tab
    4. Scroll down until you see the 'END_SQL' entry. This entry is blank by default.
    5. Select END_SQL
    6. On the VALUE box, type: ORDER BY 1
    7. This will enable the REPLACE button. Click REPLACE
    8. Save the universe
9 Test a query using 2 columns and view the SQL.
You should see now the ORDER BY 1 inferred in the SQL statement.
    Voila!!!!
Of course you can always add ORDER By 1,2,3 later if there's a need.
    Enjoy.....
    Ferdinand

  • Finder sort issue

I seem to be having a sorting issue.
This order seems odd to me, but like to get your opinions about it.

OS X Finder sorts strings of digits according to their value, not digit by digit. 200802 is less than 20071130. Here is a note on the issue:

  • ITunes 10.1 Upgrade on Windows 7, iPod Service issue

I am upgrading from iTunes 10.0.0.68 (64 bit version) to iTunes 10.1 (64 bit version) on my Windows 7. After some time the popup error message reads,
Service 'iPod Service' (Pod Service) could not be installed. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to install system services
I aborted the installation. Roll back action took place and I am continuing with iTunes
Now when I run iTunes, the message says,
The software required for communicating with iPods and mobile phones was not installed correctly. Do you want iTunes to try to repair this for you?
I clicked on Yes. Then iTunes application opened with the message "Could not delete service" (the title of the window is 'iPod Service')
How do I fix this problem? I want to upgrade to iTunes 10.1 as I want to upgrade my iPad to iOS 4.2

Now, based on your latest response I did the right-click, install as Administrator. The result unfortunately is the same.
Okay ... let's try a modified version of the instructions from the following document. (The modification is because they aren't precisely accurate for 64-bit systems ... the program files that could potentially be left on your system by the unmodified instructions wouldn't normally be relevant to an iPod Service issue, but you're getting a relatively rare variation on iPod Service trouble. So, just in case ...)
If you get any error messages during any of the uninstalls, deletions or reinstalls, note down what they say and post back with the precise text, please.
    Here's the document:
[Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923]
    ... here's the modification:
When you get to *step 9* of the *Verify iTunes and related components are completely uninstalled* section, proceed instead with the following instructions:

Note: If you have a 64-bit version of the Windows OS, continue with step #10. Otherwise, skip to step #17.
    (10) Open the Program Files (x86) folder.
    (11) Right-click the iTunes folder (if it still exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion.

    (17) Open Local Disk (C:) located in Computer or whichever hard disk your operating system is installed on.
    (18) Open the Windows folder.
    (19) For 32-bit versions of Windows: Open the System32 folder.
For 64-bit versions of Windows: Open the Syswow64 folder.
    (20) Right-click the QuickTime file (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    (21) Right-click the QuickTimeVR file (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    (22) Right-click the Recycle Bin and choose Empty Recycle Bin.
Now restart the PC and try another iTunes reinstall.
Any better luck with that attempt?

  • Is there any way to get a Smart PlayList to sort automatically

I have a smart playlist that consists of Podcasts by certain Authors. I'd like to have it sorted by release date, so I listen to them in order, oldest first. Is there any way to get the smart playlist to sort that way automatically? Right now i can't really figure out how it is sorted, it seems somewhat random to me.
    Thank you. Tom
      Windows XP

yes, and it is actually quite easy. just make a smart playlist that is like this:
    First Field: Podcast is true
Second Field: Name Contains (something present in the names of all of the podcasts you want)
There will be a check box next to "Limit to...". check the box, and set the number absurdly high, and then change "selected by random" to selected by most recently added. create the playlist. after it is created, right click on the name, date, time, album, genre... bar, and select "Date Modified" once it is there, click on it and it will allow you to arrange them either ascending, or descending. that should do it.

  • Smart playlist not sorted correctly on ipod

I have a smart playlist in my iTunes 10.0, which contains all podcasts (with play count 0), sorted by release date.
Unfortunately, this playlist is NOT sorted correctly on my ipod (nano, 5th generation). After syncing with itunes, the ipod playlist has some apparently random order (not by release date, not even by name, artist or anything, it really seems random).
It's strange that, if I click on my ipod under "DEVICES" in itunes and click the playlist there, the correct order is shown (by release date). But again, on the ipod it is actually not sorted.
    Message was edited by: powerbookuser99

I have a smart playlist for my podcast's and I normally sort them by the date added (oldest to newest) or by release date. No mater what I do now they only show up on my iPhone in date added order newest to oldest and I am unable to re-order them. I have a number of other playlists that work fine it is just this one smart playlist that is acting up. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Podcast Playlist Sort issue

I wish I had not downloaded iTunes 9. When I synced my iPod to the new update the playlist I have of Podcasts is now sorted by Artist, when in iTunes it is sorted by date, which I prefer. Also, other playlists containing podcasts (like KEXP Song a Day) push those items to the bottom, and again sort by artist.
If this is how it's going to be in iTunes 9, is there a way to get 8 back?

Perhaps this has to do with the podcast itself or the way you made your playlists. I made mine manually. I noticed that when I went in to the podcast section, iTunes was wanting to download podcasts that I already have. So if your playlists are auto playlists that could be the reason.
The podcasts I've collected are for learning a new language, so they are not time dependent. If you are looking for a continuous update, you might have to wait for Apple to fix the problem. If not, you could simply make manual playlists and then try changing the media type again.
I sympathize with you though. My iPod was very organized before this upgrade. I will be making fixes for a while.
