"Playlist" menu

Hey everyone, I hope I can get a little help on this. I am wanting to make a sort of playlist menu for a dvd I am making in DVDSP v.2. Basically I want a menu with a list of 12 songs that I will be able to click on (or navigate through by the remote control) and have that song play. But I want it to play while the playlist menu is still on the screen. I would also like a "Play All" button to just play all the songs in order, also with the menu still on the screen. I tried to create a track with all 12 songs on it split up with chapter markers, then linking all the buttons on the playlist menu to their respective song on the track, but it comes up saying "Illegal Angle Situation. Only The Main Video Angle Will Be Simulated." No audio starts up. But I figured this wouldn't work anyways, because the menu would end up going away to play the track, which is not what I want. If anyone has got the solution for my dilema I would really appreciate it. Thanks a lot.

Ok, well I set it all up, but it is a little different from what you had described. I could have done it that way, but I haven't messed too much with the buttons over video, and once I dove into it I got extremely mixed up and it wouldn't let me do what I was wanting, so here's how I set it up: On the menu it lists all the songs, so I just made 12 different menus in Photoshop with each song highlited and then put each of those pics over their respective song on the track with all the songs on it. Then I added chapter markers before each song. So then the track opens up playing, and they can use their remote to change back and forth through the songs. It just automatically plays all the songs, so now there is no "play all" button. This way saved me about 1.5 gigs on the DVD as compared to the 12 seperate menus. Thanks for your help, though. Are there any good tutorials online or elsewhere that explains the buttons over video a little better than the manual? The manual just seemed to throw you from page to page to read about certain things, and it was really confusing me. Maybe some kind of tutorial with some screen shots to help guide me through?

  • Can you create folders/menues in the playlist menu?

Was wondering if it's possible to created menus/folders (not sure that the correct lingo is) in the playlist menu in your iPod. I know you can do this on the iTunes program on your PC but it would be really helpful if it was possible to do this on the iPod itself.
    For example:
From the main menu click on Music then Playlist and instead of having a list of playlists, have additional folders like say 80's and click in that and have are your different 80s playlist in that folder.
Hope that makes sense. Thanks in advance for any help.
    jla

You can create a playlist on the go. Just browse through your Artists, Songs, or Albums, and when you get to the one that you want to create a playlist for, just hold down the center button until the title of the song flashes quickly twice.
Once you are done creating your playlist, you can go to iPod > Music > Playlists >On The Go > and click play!
    Hope this helps,

  • Home Sharing prevents iPod playlist menu from scrolling‽

I've run into a problem where my playlist menu can become hidden underneath the "Now Playing" box in the iPod app on the iPad 1. The menu can scroll, but as soon as I lift my finger the bottom playlists drop back underneath the "Now Playing" box. This prevents me from selecting them. The culprit is Home Sharing. As soon as I have a WiFi connection, Home Sharing kicks in and the "Library" option appears at the top left. From this point on, the bottom of my playlists becomes unaccessible.
The obvious solution is to either shut off Home Sharing (which I have done in preferences on my iPad. It's painfully slow anyway, especially compared to using the Remote app) or I could sync fewer playlists. But neither solution is elegant. This should just work. I was wondering if anybody else had run into this problem, and I was wondering if you had heard of a solution.
Here's a screen cap of the issue: https://skitch.com/darkstream/r7iku/ipad-home-sharing-menu-glitch

I didn't realize we could post pix now, so here is the linked graphic so you don't have to leave this site.
Looks like somebody else has run into this problem (https://discussions.apple.com/message/15005124#15005124). They found a workaround using Search, but I haven't tried it yet. I'm hoping other people will sound off here. I'm curious to know if others have experienced this.

  • After dragging a song into a playlist, the playlist menu window just stays put and in the way. what gives?

So I'm putting together a playlist in Itunes 11.1.5, selecting songs and dragging them over into the pop-in playlist menu, as you do.
The first thing I notice is that the menu won't appear after I've begun dragging the chosen song and I need to grab and drag it a second time to make the playlist pop-in materialize.
That second attempt is always successful in that the song does get added to the selected playlist, but then the playlist drop-in menu simply hangs out, rather than sliding out of view again. It blocks the righthand third of everything and nothing makes it go away. the only respite is to switch over to the "playlists" view which, presumably because it doesn't have that functionality of the drop-in menu, disappears same. When switching back to the Album view, the drop-in menu will be gone, but my place in my library will be lost.
    Annoying.
    Any ideas?

Possibly a multiple tag issue. Try right click and Convert ID3 Tag > None two or three times, then Convert ID3 Tag > v2.3. You'll need to reapply album art, but I susepct that will fix it. iTunes works best with a single ID3v2.3 tag but some software creates parallel v1 tags, and it is even possible to add multiple tags for multiple languages. iTunes behaviour with multiple tags is somewhat unpredictable, occassionaly causing it to revert changes it seems to have applied.

  • Where is Purchase date in smart playlists menu?

I recently had to buy a new MAC as my old g5 quite on me. With new macbook pro came iTunes 11, the bane of music enthusiasts the world over. Now one of my most used playlists, a smart list of recently purchased music is useless. The purchase date delineation in the smart playlist was changed to date modified which is not at all the same thing. Now there is no purchase date delineation in the smart playlist setup menu even though you can still put it in column header of the window bar. Can anyone recommend a work around for this? iTunes 11 wasn't supported on my old g5 and I didn't realize how lucky I was.

Purchase Date and Date Added are by no means the same thing.  If you are building an iTunes library on a new computer, or remove and then re-add songs (eg edownload songs from Music Match), they will no longer have the original add date.

  • Stuck on a Playlist - Menu button issue?

Have a clickwheel 20G ipod which seems to be stuck on a particular playlist. When I press menu to access the previous menu, nothing happens. The menu button seems to work for other functions like backlight and turning on the ipod. Tried resetting by toggling the hold switch then simultaneously pressing menu and centre select button for way over 10 seconds repeatedly but am not able to achieve the reset with the apple logo displayed. Again nothing happens when I do this.
    Anybody with any ideas?

  • How can I remove Genius from my ipod playlists menu?

After my 120GB Classic iPod died, I purchased a new 160GB Classic last week. Now I can't seem to get rid of the Genius playlist which appears at the top of my normal playlists on my new iPod. I don't use Genius and have it disabled in iTunes (via iTunes > Prefs > General > uncheck Genius AND Store > Turn off Genius). I don't understand why it appears in my new iPod. It never did on my old one. It is a bit of an annoyance because I used to click right through to my first playlist to play the music I like, and now I have to scroll 1 down, which is not always easy for me because I have a small handicap.
    old situation:
click music > click playlists > click play = first playlist starts playing
    new situation
click music > click playlists > Scroll 1 down (which is a hassle) > click play = first playlist starts playing
I hope there is a way to remove Genius from my playlists in my iPod but I can't see how. If it is not possible it seems to me that this is an issue that needs to be fixed. Maybe a software update can give a solution.
    Apple, please consider this.
    Thanks,

Genius Mixes are generated from random selections of your library.
The Genius Playlist lets you select a specific song to be used as the basis for selecting "similar" songs that are supposed to play well together.
If you don't want to use the feature, don't use it. Anything as complicated as an iPod is bound to have at least one feature you don't need or doesn't work the way you would want it to. Personally I'd fix grouping on Album Artist or the behavior of iTunes U before worrying about an item I don't need in the menus.

I know darn well what Genius Mixes are, and I've chosen to turn them off because I don't like the concept or in this specific case the execution.  There are plenty of other features in the iPod I don't use, but none of them get in the way.
Personally, this is my 9th or 10th iPod purchase, going all the way back to a gen2 (before the iTunes store when I had to rip my 1,000 CDs to have any music in iTunes) that saw three battery replacements (yes, I've been inside the case).  Five of the iPods before this one are still working.   I know how to use iTunes and the iPods.
The issue here is simply that the setting to turn off Genius Mixes does not turn off Genius.   It still appears in the Playlist queue -- and most annoyingly in the first Playlist slot.  Genius is turned off on all my iTunes instances, and all my iPods.
When you turn off a feature, the feature should be turned off.   If that isn't the result, that is a bug.  Quite simple.

  • Playlists missing but still in context menu

Macbook Pro 13" 2013 running Mavericks and latest versions of both Mavericks and iTunes.
This is a bit of a weird issue. At some point in the last few weeks iTunes decided to update itself from 7.0 despite the fact that I said NO every time the opportunity popped up. Then lo and behold, I open it one day and it's a newer version - fricking gremlins.
Anyway, after this update my library and playlists had disappeared. I figured I would just open a previous library, but for some reason the newest previous library was several months old and didn't have some playlists.
While it's not a major issue to remake those missing playlists, what's irritating me is that they're in the context menu when I right click. I can even add music to them. But I can't see the playlist. And when I add a song to one of these missing playlists, the "Show in Playlist" menu item doesn't list these missing playlists. The major problem is an overlap in names - an old playlist and a new replacement playlist with the same name and I'm accidentally adding to the old, not new.
Anyone have ANY idea what the heck is going on here?
As an addition, I have the old playlists on my phone (iPhone 4) still. I haven't synced the phone since this problem came up because it wants to erase everything on my phone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
    brad

You aren't the only one. I did NOT upgrade to the latest Itunes version recently but upon entering Itunes today my playlists were all gone (and I spend a lot of time organizing playlists). Found a previous .itl (Itunes library file) and was able to save a lot of playlists but the .itl file was 6 months old so all updates made to playlists since then are gone. I may have lost more and am still determining loss but I really hate it when work is lost - I've been an Itunes user since it first came out and this is a regular experience.
Suggested update for Apple would be to create more historical .itl files (could be daily with user choices as to how many and naming conventions). .itl files can be big so there would have to be file reuse or some means to not overwhelm the user's computer with unused files.

  • Can You Play Multiple Playlists Without User Intervention

Can you stack and play multiple playlists? ie if you had three playlists of 50 songs each, could you pick all three, play all the songs in the first playlist, when it is finished move automatically to the second playlist play its songs then automatically move to the third without user intervention? And if so, can you play each of these in shuffle mode?

There's no "impromptu" method of doing so that I know of.
As far as un-impromptu methods (it's always fun inventing words), it will depend on whether you want to listen to this mega-playlist on an iPod or just with iTunes.
If it's just with iTunes, you can go to the File menu > New Folder command and create a new folder which we can call the Mega-Playlist folder. Drag the three playlists in question into that folder. When you select that folder and press Play, iTunes should go through all the songs.
If it's on an iPod, since Folders don't transfer over from iTunes, the only solution I know of would be to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes that will -
Match any of the following rules:
Playlist is the first playlist +
Playlist is the second playlist +
    Playlist is the third playlist.
Synching this mega-playlist to your iPod will allow you to select it from the Playlist menu.
Shuffle mode would shuffle songs from all three playlists together, not shuffle songs from the first playlist before moving on to shuffling songs from the second playlist before shuffling songs from the third playlist.

  • How do I get to a certain playlist on the shuffle?

How do I get to a certain playlist on the shuffle?

    Hey there lauramit,
If I understand correctly you want to be able to select different playlists on your iPod Shuffle. The following article will help you be able to do that with the Voice Over option:
iPod shuffle (4th generation): Enabling and using VoiceOver
To enable VoiceOver when you set up iPod shuffle
Connect iPod shuffle to your computer.
Follow the onscreen instructions in iTunes. "Enable VoiceOver" is selected by default.
    Click Continue.
In the Summary button, under Voice Feedback, choose the language you want from the Language menu. This sets the language for your spoken system messages and playlist names, as well as many of the song titles and artist names.
Click Apply. When setup is complete, VoiceOver is enabled on iPod shuffle.
To choose an item from the playlist menu
Press and hold the VoiceOver button. You hear the names of your playlists.
When you hear the name of the playlist you want, press the VoiceOver button or Play/Pause to select it. The first item in your playlist plays. When you're listening to the playlist menu, you can press Next/Fast-forward or Previous/Rewind to move forward or backward in the playlist menu.
To restart a playlist, follow these steps to select the playlist you want.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Sterling

  • IPod touch no longer synching playlists

    Hi,
A couple of days ago, my iPod Touch no longer syncs playlists. I have a couple of playlists with a few hundred songs. The playlist shows up on the iPod in the playlist menu, but if you go into the playlist, it only shows 2 or 3 songs. But if you go under songs, all the songs are there.
Steps I've taken to fix this:
    1. Reset iPod. No change.
    2. Deleted and created a bunch of entirely new playlists, error still occurs.
    3. Restored iPod to factory settings. No change.
    4. Uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled. No change.
Has anyone seen this before? It's very annoying. I'm stuck listening to all my songs on shuffle, even if I just wanted to listen to a select few I put in the playlist.

    Auto-synching.
The playlist is a Smart Playlist, created with the following rule:
"name" "starts with" and then the letter, which I change daily.
    Options checked are:
Limit to 10gb selected by random
    Match Only Checked Items
    Live Updating
Again, when I sync, all the songs make it over, but the playlist is empty or only contains a couple of songs. This only seems to happen with Smart Playlists. If I select all the songs in the smart playlist, then create a new playlist based on the selection, this will sync properly.

  • How can I get my iPod Classic to play playlists in the order I selected them to play ?

I've had my new iPod Classic for a couple of months, and with the help of a couple of third-party books (e.g., the missing manual), I'm getting comfortable with its operation. But here's a baffling issue: It appears there's no way to select, say, three or four playlists in iTunes and to synch them to my Classic so that they play in the order I want, much the way I did for  many years with my 5-disk CD player. Note: I assiduously avoid shuffling, and I do all my synching in iTunes manually.  I'd be grateful for any help (or workaround) to deal with this irritating issue. Thanks to all.

On the iPod, create an On-The-Go Playlist.
Navigate to the first Playlist you want to use; press-and-hold the Select (centre) button until the Playlist name flashes. This puts that playlist into the On-The-Go Playlist, which is located at the bottom of the Playlist menu.
Now navigate to the second Playlist you want; press-and-hold the Select button until the Playlist name flashes. This has added the second Playlist to the On-The-Go Playlist.
Repeat for each Playlist you want to add.
Once you have added all the Playlists you want, scroll down to the end of the Playlist to On-The-Go list. If you go into the On-The-Go list, you will see all the songs form your other Playlists, in Playlist order. Simply scroll to the first song and press the Select or Play to start the first song playing.
By the way, there was no missing manual. No manual was supplied.
If you cannot find the answer by:
    trial and error
    by looking at the online manual;

  • Playlists with videos won't go away

iPod doesn't support playlist folders. As a result, the music playlists menu is annoying to use unless I trim it down to only include some of my playlists.
The obvious way to get rid of unwanted playlists is to uncheck them in the "Music" tab under the iPod in iTunes. I did this, but some playlists just wouldn't go away. It turns out that when I am syncing "All Movies" and "All TV Shows", any unchecked playlist that contains a video will still appear in the music playlist menu. (It seems like they were always empty playlists in the iPod.)
My workaround is to sync "selected playlists" for movies and tv shows, and to create a single playlist with all my videos. That playlist still appears under the music playlist menu of the iPod, but at least it's just 1.
I assume this is a bug. Anyone have a better workaround? Or is there just something I'm missing?

  • Video playback in mixed (video and music) playlists

How can I set a video playlist to play both the songs and the videos (not just the audio from the video)? My 5G ipod would allow both video playback and songs from the video playlist menu. On my 160g classic, I only see/play the videos on the mixed playlists from the video playlist menu.

The 3ivX codec is in your quicktime library folder, normally: root/Library/QuickTime, but I don't think, that Apple encodes their movies with an unsupported codec. Maybe there is another unsupported codec in your library that creates the iTunes-stuttering or the reason for your problem is completely different. I paste here the content of my library folder. If you have anything else in your folder, quit Quicktime Player and iTunes (if they are running) , remove the plug-in and try your movie again in iTunes. Hope, this helps.

  • When I click onto VoiceOver, the only given option is "All Songs". How do I access my playlists?

When I click onto VoiceOver, the only given option is "All Songs". How do I access my playlists?

If you only hear All Songs as your choice on the VoiceOver playlist menu, when you use the "press hold" command, that may mean you don't actually have any playlists loaded on your shuffle, just the songs from playlists.  Here's how to check...
First, if the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is not visible, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
In the sidebar, find the shuffle under DEVICES.  Click the small triangle to the left of the shuffle's name in the sidebar, to drop down its content list (indented below the shuffle).  Any playlists that are on the shuffle should appear there, on the content list.  If you do not see the playlists listed there, and you used the manual loading method, by dragging playlists to the shuffle in iTunes, that loads the songs but not the playlists.  Instead (to add playlists manually), you need to select the shuffle's name in the sidebar, and click the plus sign at the bottom of the sidebar, to create a new playlist.  A new playlist appears on the shuffle's content list, where you can name it.  When you manually drag songs to that playlist, iTunes adds the songs to the shuffle and that playlist.
However, if you already have playlists in your iTunes library with songs that you want on the shuffle, here's a better way to do it, using automatic syncing.  Select the shuffle in the sidebar, under DEVICES.  There is a bar of buttons near the top, starting with Summary.  Click on Music next to Summary.  This is the shuffle's Music screen, where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the shuffle.
Check the box for Sync Music.  Choose the option to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  Under Playlists, select (checkmark) those playlists with the songs you want on the shuffle.
When you click Apply, the songs from those playlists, and the playlist, sync to the shuffle.  Going forward, if you want to update songs on the shuffle, just update those playlists in your iTunes library (add/remove songs).  The shuffle does not need to be connected.  The next time you connect the shuffle (or click Sync if the shuffle is already connected), iTunes automatically updates your shuffle with the same changes.
