Playlist not sorted correctly on iPhone

I have a playlist that is sorted by time descending with about 570 songs in it. Since upgrading to OS3 the playlist on the iPhone is sorted by last date played, not the sorting in iTunes on my MacBook.
I tried a re-sync this morning with no change - the songs are sorted differently on the iPhone to the Mac.
Has anyone had this and been able to resolve it? It's not a showstopper but it's annoying!

I have a smart playlist for my podcast's and I normally sort them by the date added (oldest to newest) or by release date. No mater what I do now they only show up on my iPhone in date added order newest to oldest and I am unable to re-order them. I have a number of other playlists that work fine it is just this one smart playlist that is acting up. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Smart playlist not sorted correctly on ipod

I have a smart playlist in my iTunes 10.0, which contains all podcasts (with play count 0), sorted by release date.
Unfortunately, this playlist is NOT sorted correctly on my ipod (nano, 5th generation). After syncing with itunes, the ipod playlist has some apparently random order (not by release date, not even by name, artist or anything, it really seems random).
It's strange that, if I click on my ipod under "DEVICES" in itunes and click the playlist there, the correct order is shown (by release date). But again, on the ipod it is actually not sorted.

  • Smart Playlists not syncing correctly to iPhone/iPad with iTunes Match

My manual playlists are syncing correctly to both devices, but smart playlists are a mess.  They don't seem to match any criteria that they are created with, especially song limits.  However, smart playlists are syncing correctly in iTunes on multiple computers.  This is really frustrating because 99% of my playlists I listen to are smart ones.  Anyone know of how to fix this?  Apple, do you have any information on this or when it would be fixed?

Guys, I might have our "life savior" solution!!! (not 100% sure yet...)
I activated iTunes Match this morning.
Everything worked well apart from my smart playlists which cannot be found on my iphone/ipad anymore.
And yes, they relied on other lists...
    BUT
A few smart playlists remained!!! (although they also rely on other lists)
So, after a bit of soul searching, here's my conclusion.
Those smart playlists that remained were actually dependant on "folders" which contain lists!
    SO
I havn't tested yet (cause I'm at work), but if you put a list you wish to refer to in a folder, you should then be able to refer the smart list to the folder and not the actual list; and hopefully the smart list should then get synced!!!
Let me know if that works for you!

  • Playlists not listing correctly on iPhone

I just purchased and set up my iPhone. In iTunes I have my playlists divided into master folders/playlists to make sorting through on my ipod nano easier. This works fine on my ipod nano - for example, I have a master folder/playlist called "new albums" and in that playlist I have a number of albums. On my ipod nano these appear as "drill-downable" sub menus. For example "music - playlists - new albums - Cold Play Viva La Vida - all songs on that album". On my iPhone, "new albums" does not appear as a sub menu. Therefore all playlists from all master folders/playlists are mixed in with each other (for example all albums/playlists that appear in my "new albums" playlist are mixed in with all albums/playlists that appear in my "favorite albums" playlist. Any thoughts on how to get the master folders/playlist sub menus to appear?

I have just started to have trouble playing my playlists on the iPhone. It started to shuffle them and when I turned shuffle off, it would only play one song over and over again.  You have to open the iPod and manually advance to the next song.  That is obviously unsatifactory.  I downloaded the update on the iTunes software today.  That did not correct the problem.  I also restored the settings on the phone.  It wtill will not play a playlist in the order I have it.  There is some problem here.  I would also be happy to hear a reply on this issue.

  • Synced photos from iTunes not sorted correctly

I have around 300 pics that I took with my iphone that I moved to a local folder on PC.
I want to put those pics back on the iphone to use in a timelapse video.
I enabled Photo sync on itunes and chose that folder, and synced.
All synced OK, but these pics are not sorted correctly on the iphone.
The file names on the PC are exactly as iphone assigned them when taken, and according to date taken.
It is very important that they are sorted in ascending file name; any ideas how I can correct the sorting?
    Thanks.

For those in this discussion concerned with the "Sort" order, the criteria is in the "metadata" date that changes when you adjust the photos.
The directions below apply to Lightroom
To keep the order you created you must make an adjustment to "ALL" photos at the same time such as increasing the contrast by (1) point.
First select and change the contrast in the first photo in your collection, then select the remaining photos, click "Sync" The "Metatdata" date will change on all photos selected and will then import in the prper order.
I should mention that I have renamed all photos so they have a name that is sequential but I don't know if that matters

  • ATV2 not sorting correctly

Has anyone else noticed their ATV2 does not sort TV Shows correctly? Here are a couple of examples -
The Colbert Report is under "T" - AppleTV1 listed it under "C" as it should be
Multiple seasons of of shows are showing up separately. So instead of having a 30ROCK listing in the root list, then clicking that to get to Season 1, Season 2, Season 3 options, I have multiple 30ROCK listings at the root list.
Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere?
Or is ATV2 not sorting correctly?

    No

    It's doing it differently.
Biggest annoyance for many is that TV Shows now have an entry for each Season rather than Seaons being listed under the main show name.
Also metadata tags used to group related films eg Star Wars, Superman etc, in a common folder no longer works.

Video playlists don't work properly either.

  • Some photos are not sorted correctly by date

I just imported some photos from my friends camera who were on the same trip. However, I noticed that a couple (not all) of his photos are not sorted correctly by date in the Event. A photo from day 3 somehow comes before the photos from day 2. I checked the extended information and the dates on the photo are correct. Has anyone had this problem and know of a solution? Thanks.

It might be of some help to delete the photo cache. Please see this link - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314

  • Iphone "playlist not found in source 'iPhone'"

Ok, I don't know when this started, but it's been going on for a while and I am finally trying to figure it out.
When I dock my iPhone(s) to sync with itunes, a little black window pops up in the corner that says something like 'ipod has been detected, all track plays will be queued until iphone is ejected'. Then it syncs. Then at the end it says 'ipod sync complete. playlist not found in source iPhone'
    WHAT DOES THIS MEAN???
I figured it was a problem with smart playlists and live-updating playlists being in my iTunes but unable to sync to the iphone- because there are a few smart playlists that are set in itunes to sync with my 3G, but do not actually appear on the phone. So- I deleted ALL MUSIC from my iPhone.
It STILL gives me this message. There is no playlist to BE found! I checked- in itunes the iphone is listed as having no synced playlists. And when i open the ipod app on the iphone there is no music (i'd thought maybe it was some wonky playlist on the iphone that couldn't sync back.)
Then I tried adding 2 simple playlists. Not smart playlists. Not updating playlists. Just a couple little 20 song playlists.
And it still gives me that message.
It happens with my old iPhone, and my 3G.
I have 3.1.3 on the 3G, 2.2 on the iphone. 10.6.2 on my iMac, and itunes 9.0.3.
    Help!!

NOT answered, but no one replied.
Thanks for all the help, everyone.

  • Playlist not sorted in iPhone

I have songs in a Playlist sorted alphbetically. But in the iPhone the songs in that Playlist are in a different order.
Has anyone experienced this? Is there a way to ensure the songs are sorted in the way they are in iTunes? Thanks.

Thanks for your help, Jason. I had to try all the suggestions on the site, but I didn't want a Standard Playlist. I then had a brainstorm: I simply deleted the old Smart Playlist and created a new one with the same criteria. This new Smart Playlist sorts on the iPhone the way I want it to. I think it's because the old Smart Playlist had been imported from my PC to my new Mac.
Thanks for steering me in the right direction, though

  • Outlook Contacts do not sort correctly under iCloud

I have recently started mucking around with iCloud (after the unfortunate discontinuation of MobileMe...).
I use MS Outlook 2007 on my PC (Windows 7 64-bit) for my Contacts, Calendar & Tasks.  Untill recently, I was syncing my Outlook Contacts & Calendar with my iPhone (latest iOS) via iTunes.  All was working fine.
A couple of days ago, I installed the iCloud Control Panel on my PC and gave it a go to see what will happen to my Outlook setup.  I enabled just the Contacts in order not to stray out too far...
Once done, iCloud took all the contacts from my personal folder in Outlook and moved them to a new iCloud folder.  So now, I have two different Contact folder, the iCloud dedicated one (which is fully populated) and the other one is the one previously used (which is stored in my local .pst file and now empty).
All syncing to the iCloud seems to be working OK - I checked my contacts from the www.icloud.com and they are all there.
The problem I have is withing the new iCloud Contact folder that was created in my Outlook installation.  It does not sort my Contacts correctly
I have contacts written both in English and in Greek, depending on where they reside.  It seems to get mixed up because of this and mixes up the Greek contacts inbetween the English ones, in a manner that I cannot justify.
Previously when I had all the Contacts in my local .pst file, it was showing the English ones first and then all the Greek ones, both sorted 100% correctly (by the way, this is how it looks as well in my iPhone).  I have also enabled an option in Outlook settings which allows me to create a second index for the Contacts in Greek - this creates a second Greek alphabet next to the already existing English one on the right of the Contacts view.  None of that seems to have an effect in the case of the iCloud Contacts folder in Outlook, which doesn't sort as it should.
Has anyone come across this issue and is able to offer some assistance?
    Regards.

No none, the contacts just do not sort in alphabetical order they should be in. For example I added a name that started with an S but it would not go under the S category of names but rather it would create a new S group at the top of the contact list before the contacts starting in A. The OLD list of names starting with S is still existing and in the right alphabetical order but the new contact would not save under that group but rather as I said in a new group starting with S at the top of the contact list.

  • Smart Playlists not syncing correctly

All of my iTunes smart playlists are not syncing correctly on my 3rd gen. iPod touch. I have iTunes 9, and the latest iPod touch software (3.1.2) and nothing is correct.
For example on my "Top 25 Most Played" there are songs that I have listened to only once, and some, zero times! In the "Recently Added" playlist, there are songs that I added years ago!
How will this get fixed? I thought maybe 3.1.2 would fix it, but obviously it didn't. I remember this happened to me when I first got my first gen. iPod touch, but that sorted itself out in about a week. I've now had the third gen. iPod touch for a month now.

thanks for posting this link to Apple officially responding to this issue. although these are good workaround solutions, they are still just workaround solutions. it seems there remains a bug when the "live updating" option is selected for a smart playlist. this is one of the most obvious/major bugs I have seen in Apple software (and it's not that big of a deal, so that says a lot about the quality of Apple software).

  • TV shows from iTunes are not sorted correctly on iPod

I bought episodes of a TV show from the iTunes store and all of a sudden nothing is sorted correctly anymore. They're completely fine on iTunes but on my iPod Classic (it's the newest one, 160 GB) it just doesn't seem to want to work. I've tried restoring it a few times but so far, no change. And I've checked all the tags and everything so it shouldn't be wrong but I'm thinking the issue is with my iPod, not iTunes.

I had the same issue with this. what I did to fix it was select the shows in the TV playlist, then apple - i to get info, click on the video tab, select "TV Show" from the "video kind:" pull down menu.
Resync the touch. You should see the files in the video playlist on the Touch. I'm not sure why they let you sync tv shows if they don't appear on the Touch. In any case, the above work around should work for you.
    Good luck.

  • Playlists not syncing correctly from iTunes to iPhone4

iTunes is not syncing my playlists consistently. As it is difficult to describe exactly what is going wrong, I'll also list the things that I did to test the issue. I am currently using itunes v10.6.3.25 on Win7 64-bit and iOS v5.1.1 and iTunes Match is not enabled. When I plug my iPhone into my PC to sync, everything appear to go normally, I am not getting any errors. When I look at the contents of my iPhone in iTunes (under the Devices category), it appears to match my iTunes content. However, when I use the Music app on my phone, the playlists/song have not been synced. Here are my attempts to figure out what's going on:
    TEST: deleted playlists on iphone
RESULT: playlist deleted on itunes after syncing
    TEST: deleted playlists in itunes
    RESULT: playlist deleted from iphone
TEST: changed name of playlist in itunes
RESULT: removed *some* songs from playlist on iphone (but not in itunes)
TEST: added songs back to iphone playlist
RESULT: after syncing, songs added were removed from both itunes and iphone playlist
TEST: added songs back to iTunes playlist
RESULT: did not sync songs to iPhone playlist
TEST: added music to iTunes library
RESULT: music successfully synced to iPhone
TEST: added music to a smart playlist
RESULT: smart playlist synced to iPhone successfully
    TEST: uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes
    RESULT: issue persists
    TEST: rebooted iPhone
    RESULT: issue persists

  • Podcasts in Smart Playlist not showing up on iPhone in iOS 5

Upon first syncing my iPhone to iTunes after uploading both to iOS 5 and iTunes 10.5, I noticed that my podcasts in Smart Playlists were not there, and coincidentally, the Smart Playlists were gone in iTunes (that's a different issue altogether).
The solution I found is that you have to sync the podcast Smart Playlist from the "Podcasts" tab on iTunes.  I did this with my phone plugged in, but suppose that this would also work with a wi-fi sync.
Choosing the Smart Playlists from the "Music" tab will result in empty playlists on your phone.
    Hope this helps!

I'm having the exact same issue on Mac OS 10.7.2 and iOS 5. There are some other posts on Podcasts not syncing with smart playlists. I haven't found a solution yet. Super annoying. I used to have a smart playlist of audio podcasts sorted by date. Now the Smart Playlist shows up on my iPhone - but it's empty. I've tried your solution but id didn't work for me. I've unchecked all Playlists in the Music tab and checked them in the Podcast tab and I've still got empty Smart Playlists on my iPhone. Let me know if you get any more info on this. I'd also like to add that this exact problem surfaced a while back with a previous iOS update.
Here are what I see as the variables in this problem...
    Music tab:
    • Playsts box (my Smart Playlists of Podcasts DO NOT show up here)
    • Genres box (I've tried checking and unchecking the Podcast Genre)
    Podcast tab:
    • Automattically including ___ episodes of ____ podcasts (I've tried checking and unchecking this)
    • List of indivudual podcasts with checkboxes  (I've tried checking and unchecking them)
    • Include Episodes from Playlists  (I've tried checking and unchecking them)

  • Playlists not sorted right in iOS5

after installing iOS 5, my playlists are not sorted the way they are in iTunes, for example I got an intelligent playlist with a couple of rules, and sorted by "rating".
Then on iPhone 4, the playlist is sorted on another way, really weird bug cause if I display in iTunes the playlist inside the devide while plugged into the computer it shows as expected but on the go it's totally different.
I tried syncing it again and rebooting the device.

Do matters improve if you update to iPhoto 9.4.1?
    iPhoto 9.4.1
From the release notes for the new version:
    What's New in Version 9.4.1
Improves the reliability of syncing to iOS devices via iTunes
Fixes an issue that could cause iPhoto to quit unexpectedly when using the Export command
Addresses an issue that could cause iPhoto to quit unexpectedly when upgrading multiple books, cards, and calendars
