Playlist not sorted in iPhone

I have songs in a Playlist sorted alphbetically. But in the iPhone the songs in that Playlist are in a different order.
Has anyone experienced this? Is there a way to ensure the songs are sorted in the way they are in iTunes? Thanks.

Thanks for your help, Jason. I had to try all the suggestions on the site, but I didn't want a Standard Playlist. I then had a brainstorm: I simply deleted the old Smart Playlist and created a new one with the same criteria. This new Smart Playlist sorts on the iPhone the way I want it to. I think it's because the old Smart Playlist had been imported from my PC to my new Mac.
Thanks for steering me in the right direction, though

  • Smart playlist not sorted correctly on ipod

I have a smart playlist in my iTunes 10.0, which contains all podcasts (with play count 0), sorted by release date.
Unfortunately, this playlist is NOT sorted correctly on my ipod (nano, 5th generation). After syncing with itunes, the ipod playlist has some apparently random order (not by release date, not even by name, artist or anything, it really seems random).
It's strange that, if I click on my ipod under "DEVICES" in itunes and click the playlist there, the correct order is shown (by release date). But again, on the ipod it is actually not sorted.

I have a smart playlist for my podcast's and I normally sort them by the date added (oldest to newest) or by release date. No mater what I do now they only show up on my iPhone in date added order newest to oldest and I am unable to re-order them. I have a number of other playlists that work fine it is just this one smart playlist that is acting up. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Playlists not sorted right in iOS5

after installing iOS 5, my playlists are not sorted the way they are in iTunes, for example I got an intelligent playlist with a couple of rules, and sorted by "rating".
Then on iPhone 4, the playlist is sorted on another way, really weird bug cause if I display in iTunes the playlist inside the devide while plugged into the computer it shows as expected but on the go it's totally different.
I tried syncing it again and rebooting the device.

Do matters improve if you update to iPhoto 9.4.1?

  • Songs in a playlist not syncing with iPhone

Ok, I have a playlist that I call "Main Playlist" that contains 945 songs.  I have an iPhone 3gs (32GB) that I sync this list to.  I do my syncing manually.
When I copy this playlist to my iPhone, for some reason it only contains 922 songs.
Is there an easy way to see which songs aren't copying?  And why would this happen anyway?

Ok, I think I figured it out.  For some reason, some songs in my "main playlist" on my PC were "missing" - they had the little exclamation mark next to them.  I have no idea why they went missing - they were still located on my hard drive in the same exact location.  I tried to "get info" on one of the missing songs and it asked me to locate it on the hard drive which I did.  Then iTunes offered to find other missing files by using the location I just provided.  It found a bunch and fixed them.  Finally, I synced that playlist back to my iPhone and now the number of songs match.
Now I guess my question is why did some songs randomly disassociate themselves with their locations on my hard drive (where they have ALWAYS been?)

  • Playlist not sorted correctly on iPhone

I have a playlist that is sorted by time descending with about 570 songs in it. Since upgrading to OS3 the playlist on the iPhone is sorted by last date played, not the sorting in iTunes on my MacBook.
I tried a re-sync this morning with no change - the songs are sorted differently on the iPhone to the Mac.
Has anyone had this and been able to resolve it? It's not a showstopper but it's annoying!

  • Playlists not synching to iphone 6 plus

    I'm using iTunes v. 12.1
I create a playlist in itunes, connect my iphone, but the new created playlist does not show up in the music section of my phone.
I've deleted the playlist and recreated it but still doesn't show up as a selection when trying to sync.
I've deselected "sync music" then went back and selected it. Still a no-show.
I've quit itunes and restarted it. Still no-show.
Is this a recent bug? I have extremely sensitive and important voice memos that need transfering!
    Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!

They should. Some of them may need updating.

  • Why are playlists not included in iPhone backups?

I just setup my new iPhone 6 by restoring from an iTunes backup of my iPhone 5s, and I was surprised to find that playlists i had on my 5s were not on my 6. Any ideas why?
Also, although all my photos, contacts, iMessages, etc. are on my new 6 now, the "used" storage amount is much smaller than what my 5s showed - by about 18GB. Some of it is due to cloud content not being downloaded, but it does not seem to add up. Is there other stuff that did not get pulled from the 5s to the 6 through the backup-and-restore process?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hey cc:P,
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities and congrats on your new iPhone 6. Check out the following section from this article on backing up:
Should I use iTunes or iCloud to back up my iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch? - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204136
Keep in mind that iTunes Backup doesn't create a duplicate back up of your movies, music, podcasts, and apps. When you back up, your media content is synced from your primary computer using iTunes.
When you restore a backup, your media (including playlists) is not yet restored to your device. You’ll need to sync the new phone with your iTunes library to transfer over all of the media content.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Why are recently added and recently played playlists not showing on iphone 4s when they show in iTunes?

In my iTunes window, the playlists for my iphone 4s when it is connected show correctly. The playlists include 'top 25 most played songs', 'recently played', and 'recently added'. Although they appear in iTunes even after syncing, they do not show on my iPhone and I can not use them (they aren't there). But they continue to show in the iTunes list for the device. This is frustrating because I often like to play my recently added list or top 25. How do I fix this?
    Thanks for any help.
    James

I would also like to know this. =/

  • Ipod smart playlist not sorting right.

I'm not sure if this is because of the iOS 7 update but before the update. I was able to sort my music by Date Added and start my music from newer music I would download. After the iOS 7 update my playlist on the ipod sorts by Date Added but starts from older music and I have to scroll all the way down to the new stuff. If this would be address in a new update that would be awesome!

Thanks. I didn't see the drop down menu to pick "unplayed Podcasts" from. It should do the same thing as the Smart Playlist I created. I did get some of the Podcasts in the Smart Playlist uploaded to my iPod, just not all of them. Now that I look at the ones that were uploaded, it appears that the ones that were uploaded were ones that I had downloaded directly from websites and not ones that were downloaded via iTunes Music Store (subscritions). So it appears that iTunes has a way of identifying them as Podcastats other than the Genre. OK it is done now and it still missed some Podcasts that were in the Smart list. It looks like it may have only picked the ones that I have subscribed to via Music Store (makes sense). This is a PAIN. Why not just let us use Smart Playlists for Podcasts?? Why can't we just use podcasts just like any other "track/song"? Just identify them by Genre.

  • [Playlists] Sorting my playlists (not sorting songs, artists, etc within playlists)

When I first got my Spotify account I could created a playlist and they were automatically listed (sorted) alphabetically. It worked great for me. All of my playlists I denoted iWorkout, iFocus, iChill, iWakeup, etc. Then followed up with the genre of music last, for example... iWorkout - Rap, iWorkout - Rock, etc. If I was working out all of my workout lists were grouped. If I needing to focus, to chill, to wakeup! I could easily find what I wanted. At some point an update came through and all of my playlists are listed by creation date?? I guess?? Sucks monkey balls. Now my playlists are all over the place and the ones that I use the most I have to scroll all the way to the bottom to find, why? Because I created them first... and we can't even sort ascending or descending by creation date. It's just dumb - my opinion. It's been months... I assumed others would complain for me, but it's not returned or been enhanced. So, here's my complaint.  Please return the sorting to alphabetical or give us the option to sort them as we prefer, by date created, by alphabet, by last accessed, or whatever others may be asking for. Thanks-so-much

  • Podcast playlist not synced to iPhone 3gs, 3.1 iTunes 9

I have a manual playlist that I drag podcasts into so I can just listen to them all from start to finish without having to select and play each podcast. It's been working fine with all my iPods and my iPhone, until iTunes 9.
I drag the podcasts into the playlist. They are there and I can play them fine on my Mac. But the playlist isn't listed on the iPhone "Music" tab to select and sync. So doesn't sync. It does sync to my Nano 4g.
I hope this is a bug that will be fixed. I actually deleted the playlist and created a new one. It's NOT a smart playlist.
Has anyone else run into this? I'd love to know if it is working for someone.
iPhone 3GS, OS 3.1 iTunes 9. BTW all the podcasts play fine from the poecasts page on the iPod. I just don't like to have to manually play each podcast. Especially since so many are rather short.

I've managed to find a work around.
I subscribe to several podcasts and had a smart playlist ("media_kind = podcast" as the filter). The playlist was fine in iTunes, present on my iPod (120G Classic) but empty. Just started happening with upgrade to iTunes 9. This same configuration has worked fine for at least 1 year. Same MBP, same iPod....(I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard too)
I played around with the filter, switched it to "genre=podcast"....same thing. Seems ok in iTunes, won't sync with iPod.
I solved it by changing my smart playlist to use "Album contains <podcast_name>". I toggled the playlist to use "any" of the rules and then just added each podcast by name to the smart playlist. Now when I sync with my iPod, all the podcasts show up on the iPod in that playlist.
For smart playlists, it seems to matter which rules you use to create them. Some of the attributes don't work (media-kind, genre) don't work, others (like Album) work ok. I haven't tried all the applicable ones. Once I got it working, I stopped testing.

  • Smart Playlists not working on iPhone after iOS5 update..

Okay, so I normally have a custom made smart playlist which I name "Recently Modified" so I can see the list of songs which I have recently updated in quality or changed the artwork etc., but since updating to iOS5, this playlist still works fine on iTunes but appears blank on my iPhone 4 while all other playlists work fine. Any reason why this might be?

Right, well my settings for it look like this:
(Date Modified > is in the last > 2 > days)
It's not as if they are very complicated conditions, so I can't understand what would be wrong. Normally if a playlist had no songs in it, it wouldn't sync right? But this is what the playlist looks like on my iPhone, even though it does contain songs:

  • The playlist order on iTunes does not match the playlist order on my iPhone!!

Okay, I have been browsing discussion threads for the past two hours and nothing seems to be working!
I have essentially two playlists that I would like on my iPhone. One is the "purchased" folder that is automatcially created when you buy a song. I have it arranged by "date added". The second playlist I want is called "music library"... there I have simply copy and pasted all my songs into a playlist and sorted them by "play count". However, no matter what I do (ie. switching the order from starting from the "lowest play count" to the "highest play count", starting new smart playlists with the "playlist is music" criteria, and right clicking the playlist and clicking "copy to play order") NOTHING SEEMS TO BE WORKING!! Please help me, I just want them in the order I have them on iTunes.
    Thank you!

I had the same problem but got my playlists synced perfectly a few nights ago. i did a few things at a time so i'm not sure which exactly did it. my playlists were coming up in reverse order on my iPhone. Most played appeared starting with the least of the most played. With the iPhone plugged into the computer, the iPhone appears in itunes. When i expanded it, i saw eclaimation marks near a few of the smart playlists. the error message was something along the lines of "could not sync playlist becuase it relies on another playlist that could not be found".
Now my smart playlists still had the fix from way back when you had to add a condition saying playlist is Music, and it seemed that the playlists "Music" not being on the device confused it somewhat. so i modified my smart playlists to not rely on any other smart playlists, unsynced and resynced those playlists from my phone and it all came up perfectly from then on, no problems for the last few days.
I think it's an ios bug as syncing another phone on older ios4 got the playlist order perfectly before all of these changes i made. Hope that helps someone, it was driving me nuts for weeks.

  • ITunes 10 - iPhone 4 Device playlist not updating from main iTunes Playlist

Installed iTunes 10 and synched with an Apple iPhone 4. After the first install, I could see all of the Playlists displayed in iTunes when I selected to sync Music on the iPhone using the 'Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres'. After the initial install of the iPhone 4, I add or rename playlists in the main iTunes app and these new playlists do not appear at all in the iPhone Music playlists to be selected.
I can add songs to a playlist and the iPhone playlist gets the new tracks OK.
I tried renaming a playlist that showed up OK in the iPhone Music Playlists and the playlist disappeared from the iPhone Music Playlists.
All of the playlists work fine within the main iTunes window, I can add, delete, rename playlists without any issues there. The only issue I have is within the iPhone 4 Music Sync Music tab where I select playlists.
I reinstalled the iTunes 10 and did a restore of the iPhone and the problem persists.

The same issue occurs with my iPad.
Spoke with Apple twice and the attempts so far have not resulted in the problem being fixed. What's been done to date is:
    - reinstalled iTunes 10
    - move the iTunes Music Library.xml file to desktop and then selected the option to import the library using the xml file from the desktop (this took about 12 hours to run, I have about 108,000 tracks in my library)
After these two attempts, I continue to have the issue whereby playlists showing up on the Devices on iTunes to select playlists do not match with the playlist within the main iTunes window.
Any other ideas of what could be done?

  • I need to transfer playlists from my old iphone into itunes so that I can then add them to my new iphone 6.  However, none of the playlists on my iphone appear when I connect to my macbook.  I have read other threads but have not found answer.  help!

I am a group exercise instructor and rely heavily on my playlists.  My old phone is an iphone 4s and I just bought an Iphone 6.  I also have a macbook where I keep my itunes account, but I create all my playlists on my phone.  I need to transfer those playlists from my old iphone into itunes in my computer so that I can then add them to my new iphone 6.  However, none of the playlists on my iphone appear when I connect to my macbook.  I have read other threads where the suggestion was to attach the old phone to itunes, find the phone in itunes and click the little arrow to the left to show the playlists.  Then right click on the playlist and export it, saving it to the desktop, to then import it into itunes.  However, in my case, the playlists do not show up when the phone is connected to itunes.  I have clicked on the little arrow and all I get is "music", "purchased", etc., but none of my playlists.   I'm sure some years back I probably deleted something in my itunes library and now none of my playlists show.  Please help me.  I would hate to have to recreate all of my playlists.  Thank you!

I know it sounds weird, and that is the reason I posted my question.  Because my case is not like all the ones I've found online and it's confusing.  I added a screen capture of my itunes with my old iphone (the one that houses my playlists) connected to it.
My playlists "ARE"  in my iphone 4s.  They are still there even though they do not show up when I plug in to itunes in my computer.
When connecting my phone to itunes on my macbook, the playlists do not appear anywhere in itunes.  I have found my connected iphone icon, I have clicked on the arrow next to it and it does pull up the standard lists that come with the iphone/itunes:  Music, Movies, TV shows, books.  That's it! below that is "Genius" and below "Geniuns" is "PLAYLISTS"  but the only playlist of mine that shows there is one that I created several years back titled "90's music" and that one I created it on my computer, not my phone.  Under "90's music" there are also other standard playlists that itunes automatically adds.
Does anyone else have this issue or know how to get around this.  I am starting to think that I am going to have to recreate these lists on my computer
