Playlist on iPod Classic 160GB are empty

Something strange is happening on my brand new iPod Classic 160GB. I followed the instruction to install and sync my iPod with the newest iTunes 11.0.2.26 on market. The sync went all fine, but when I want to choose a playlist, for example the playlist "Hip-Hop" on my iPod it's shown all empty (0 songs)! When I'm searching a song on the iPod which it must be listed in this playlist, the song is found without a problem. It seems that all songs are synchronized correctly, but there is a bug with the visualization of some playlists. I note: Not all playlists are affected from this problem and on the iTunes in the chapter "songs on iPod" the songs are all listed correctly.
I tried to make a restore, but the problem is still the same. A sync from one playlist (by choosing manually the playlist) it hasn't helped as well.
Anyone have some suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help ;-).

I found the problem !!! I had many smart playlist with a rule that was -> "Album - is - "empty"". It seems that the new iTunes this kind of "empty rule" would not accept. I had to add a new rule -> "Playlist - is - Music". Now it shows all the songs on the iPod.
It seems to be an Apple Bug on iTunes. I hope they can resolve this problem.

  • Can't sync iPod classic 160GB

I recently purchased an iPod classic 160GB. I am running Windows XP with SP2,
iTunes 7.4.3.1, QuickTime 7.2 (I am hesitant to install iTunes 7.5 due to known problems with QuickTime 7.3). I had to go to my local Apple Store to get the latest iPod Software Update installed (56.6 MB is pretty huge; this Update for my iPod video was only 6.2 MB).
Problem Number 1: iTunes cannot successfully download an iPod Software Update (1.0.2) if the download has been Paused and then Resumed; iTunes loses track of the size of the module it was working on. (If there are buttons in the application to pause and resume the download, they should work correctly.) (This happens with both the iPod classic and the iPod Video.)
Problem Number 2: I cannot successfully sync my Music Library (40GB) with my iPod classic. I actually got to listen to a song after 4 days of trying to perform this download (only 800 MB of my music made it into the iPod successfully.) iTunes froze up when the iPod was first attached and also while trying to perform the sync. (I also have and iPod Video (30GB) and it works fine although a little slow.) The Genius at my Apple Store was able to load the iPod successfully using one of their BootCamp machines since my Music Library resides on an external hard disk. (And it only took 4 hours of work to get this far.)
Device Manager in Windows also shows an additional driver (iPod Driver) in the USB section with the iPod classic attached (it is not shown when using the iPod video). Both iPods show as Drive J: in the My Computer window.
Note to Apple Management: When a customer pays $250 to $350 for and iPod, the customer has heightened expectation levels, especially if he/she has had success with prior successful products. Especially since the classic is the 6th generation machine. Please get on this Apple!!!!!

I solved my problem!! I just loaded my iPod classic 160GB with 40GB of music and one video file.
I upgraded to iTune 7.5.0.20 and iPod Software 1.0.2 with no major ill effects. (I had to install iTunes 7.5 a second time because it told me to.) Windows XP is at SP 2 level and appears to be fine.
I tried using msconfig to stop initally loading anything except iTunesHelper and qttask. Nothing major broken yet. This is good news.
I tried loading over one album at a time (Using the Manual button in the options) and iTunes started freezing up at weird places (but it usually came back after a while.)
So I set the iPod into Disk Mode and I went to the Summary screen and only checked the "Enable Disk Use" box. (The top box was already checked.)
I Clicked on the Music tab and chose Sync Music and All songs and playlists (I would suggest you try something less to test this; my whole list took almost 12 hours to copy over. But I'm running with 1.1 USB ports). It ran very smoothly and iTunes only got fussy when I asked it to eject the iPod, but it eventually did it.
After it said I could disconnect, I got the iPod out of Disk Mode by using Menu/Center buttons and presto, it was up and working. All my playlist present and accounted for.
It'll take me a couple of days to find any problems (I have 31 days of music to listen to), but it's looking good.
Thank you to all who have listened to my problems and provided help!!
Apple has managed to keep this customer.

I have a ipod classic 160GB and it's not showing any music anymore, but there is still showing 7GB of memory being used, and I don't have it backed up on my itunes, since I had to put a new hard drive on my computer. Any suggestion to find out whats on that memory or to get it the music back, there is approximately over 1400 songs on it?

What is the memory being used by, is it Other? If it is, that means the iPod can no longer read the music, so it has put it all in "Other".
The usual fix for this is to allow the iPod to Sync with its iTunes Library. If that doesn't work, the next option is to Restore the iPod using the Restore command in iTunes, on the Device/Summary pane.
Unless you are very (very) lucky, I suspect that you are going to have to Restore your iPod. Restoring will remove everything form the iPod and put back onto it only what it finds in your iTunes Library, which you say is currently empty.
    If you have to rebuild your Library after this issue, by adding all the music back again, this is going to be hard to hear, but for the future, you may want to consider always having a backup of your library. The easiset way to back the Library up is;
if the Library is small enough, burn it to a DVD, as digital files, not a "music CD".
If your Library is too large for a DVD, buy yourself an external hard drive and copy the Library onto the drive. Remember to update the backup every so often.

I purchased one of the newest iPod Classic 160GB models and while it originally connected great when I connected to iTunes, now, iTunes absolutely refuses to eject my iPod everytime I connect.
I have to eject my iPod through Windows Explorer and this happens everytime I connect it to my computer. Does anyone have a fix for this?

My computer is running  Windows 7 Pro SP1 with all updates and I do not see anything in that article other than perhaps uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes that helps.  I do not have any third party apps related to Apple.  I do have one or two third party applications that work with Microsoft Office products and they were installed long before iTunes stopped working, so I do not believe that they have anything to do with iTunes's problems.

  • Just took my iPod classic 160GB out of box turned it on and accidently hit clickwheel or button and eveything is in language other than english.  How do I get it back to english without being able to read symbols.

just took my iPod classic 160GB out of box, turned it on and accidentially hit a button changing the language from english to something else (chinese or japanese).  All I see now is symbols.  How do I turn it back to english without knowing what any of these symbols mean.  I started clicking buttons and click wheel and can't seem to get to any section with various language options.  Please some help me get it back to english.

There are two options. The first is to learn whatever language you have it set to, the second is to find someone else with an iPod Classic and read the English menu and follow it in your iPod. I also believe you may be able to set language perfunces from within iTunes while the iPod is docked, providing they are in English.

  • HT2553 My ipod classic 160gb cannot be synced by my windows vista. the library is copied alright but cannot be synced into the ipod; HELP! !

My ipod classic 160gb cannot be synced by my windows vista computer. The library is copied alright, but the ipod cannot be synced; Help! How can I overcome this, please?

    Hi, Chris,
    I mean, when I load my itune library as usual and the syncing starts, I get the problem as described as follows;
When I try to sync, I see the songs being copied then I get a message, say after about 45minutes, that, itunes cannot read the ipod contents because the ipod data drive is corrupt. I have tried different things to no avail. It is very fraustrating, and if I may say so, very disturbing.
I hope somebody can help me, for I can see now that, many people have got similar problems and they haven't been able to solve. I understand this is a common ipod problem and many people have had to abandone their ipods after such problems. It is very hurting because ipods are very expensive to buy, and so to write it off like that is very dis-heartening.

Ipod classic 160GB very slow sync and cannot connect to itunes store windows 7 ansd itunes 10.6.0.40. I have now been trying for 3 weeks to restore my iPod. Really frustrated, any ideas would be welcome.

Cured the problem! Reinstalled an earlier version of itunes from oldapps.com (version 10) now everything works as it should. I would suggest that if you are experiencing these problems that you do the same. I must say that it is a brave business decision on behalf of apple to effectively lock out all windows 7 users from their products and sales channels and I can only wish them luck in this very shortsighted policy.

  • Error -50 & -69 When trying to sync music Ipod Classic 160gb

    Hi everybody,
I recently installed an x64 version of Windows 7 Ultimate. I have an Ipod Classic 160gb (late 2009), and i am trying to sync it to my itunes library. However, everytime i do so, it will copy across a few songs (a different number everytime, no more than 500 though) my Itunes freezes up (as well as the ipod). After a while, once it "comes back to life" i get either "Itunes cannot copy {Song Name} to {Ipod Name} Ipod. An unknown Error Occurred (-50)." or "Itunes cannot copy {Song Name} to {Ipod Name} Ipod. An unknown Error Occurred (-69)".
Here is what i have tried:
Enable Disc Use - No Luck
Uninstall / Reinstall Itunes + Rebuild of Library - No Luck
Uninstall Itunes, reinstall + Rebuild Library on Previous version (9.2) of Itunes - No Luck
Kill APSDaemon.exe While synching - No Luck
KIll all other Apple Services + Processes - No Luck
    Uninstall Antivirus - No Luck
    Reformat Ipod - No Luck
Create a Virtual x32 environment of Windows 7, and recreate my library using the latest Itunes - No Luck
Virtualize a Mac environment, and try on there - MAC OSX doesn't allow virtualization on a Windows "Base" (what a piece of ****) - SO, no luck
Media Monkey Transfer - freezes up like a dead body, then just crashes.
Manually transfer - Work sometimes, doesn't work otherimes. Seems to be Random.
I know you are all going to say "oh, the song it get stuck on is corrupt". Well, it isn't. The song plays fine in Itunes if i go to investigate. When i go to my music "source" it is an actuall file, with an actual file size. I can also play it with VLC media player as well.
Sync with my Dad's IMAC - Success. My Dad has 5.5gb of music (more than 500 songs). Although Ipod did get seem to get stuck on a couple of songs, it succesfully sync'ed
Use Sharepod - Success (although, i have 2940 folders, and sharepod will only allow me to transfer one folder at a time) - So, No Luck
I know the Ipod is fine because if i Sync via MAC or Sharepod, it will play music fine. Also, before the installation of the x64, it sync'd fine. It would be silly that an Ipod dies because i change my Windows Installation.
Another thing, while in the act of Synching, the IPOD screen displays "Synchronising", then, it will just go to "Connected". On the MAC it stayed as "Synchronising" the entire time.
Basically, i am at my wits end. I have tried everything i can think of.  I now have a very expensive paper weight, which is ******** me to tears.
If anybody has any solutions, or ideas, i would love to hear them.
    Thanks,
    Lachlan

You seem to have tried everything, and you say it's syncing fine on your Dad's iMac, so I assume, you have also  done a Disk Diagnostic from an earlier post by tt2 and conclude that your iPod Hardisk is good.
You don't have to use it as a heavy paperweight, the problem is only using your Windows 7 machine for syncing.
In your troubleshooting steps, did you try to use another High-Speed USB 2.0 port, USB controller resource are very scarce, so if you use other USB devices, while syncing your iPod, it may just freeze.
Windows have a bad reputation for device conflict, so better don't connect other  USB devices, while syncing, better sync it while disconnected from Internet, stop antivirus just before you go to bed.
    Have a nice day!

  • IPod classic 160GB not detected under Windows Vista

    Hi,
I was trying to find something on that problem, but obviously all the problems with iPod and Vista are slightly different.
    Here's my story:
    Toshiba Portege R400
    Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit
    iPod Classic 160GB
    iTunes 7.6.0.29
    USB 2.0
When I try to connect iPod to the computer NOTHING happens. Not that it starts searching for drivers or something like that. NOTHING.
The same iPod works fine with another computer but there's XP. I haven't tried it with different Vista so far.
USB ports are fine cause other devices like mouse or headphones work fine.
What else... I re-installed iTunes 3 times so far, didn't help. I also have the latest updates for Vista (at least Windows Update says that).
I know there are some workarounds to point different folder to look for drivers etc. But I don't even have the opportunity, cause nothing happens.
I've noticed one thing: when the iPod is plugged-in and I turn on the comp then, the iPod display flashes. It doesn't say it's connected but it reacts. And that's all. Later it comes back to normal "not working".
    Have anyone encountered similar problem?
    Regards
    Tomek

I have the same problem and I have Windows XP on 2 machines with iTunes. I plug the iPod in and it is not detected at all.
I plugged it into my girlfriends laptop (also XP) without iTunes and it is detected and works fine.
I have uninstalled iTunes and that does not help, it's like the iPod Classic 160GB is invisible on my 2 main machines...

  • My iPod Classic 160GB is recognized by computer, and goes through sync process, but still has old stuff...

My iPod Classic 160GB is recognized by computer, and goes through sync process, but still has old stuff...
I feel like there must be an issue with the library location, but I don't know how to correct that.  My Dad recently wiped my computer and deleted Windows XP and installed Windows 7.  I don't know what he did, but my iTunes library is still intact it seems. However, I've added quite a few podcasts that I'd like to sync to my iPod.  When I connect it, it goes through the sync process, but ends quickly and says its safe to disconnect.  None of the new podcasts are on there though.
Also, there was something really wrong with my iTunes account.  When I went to buy something from the store, it wouldn't accept my password, and when I went to reset it, it wouldn't recognize my birthdate and month (I had the correct username).  I ended up creating a new account and purchasing a song.  This time, it did sync the new song onto my iPod, but not the podcasts I'm trying to sync.
As far as the library location, is there anything particular that has to be included in that library in order for it to be recognized by iTunes when you sync?  Awhile back (before my Dad worked on my computer), I had changed the folder location to my external hard drive, but in researching, I saw that I still had in another drive some folders with music that is currently on my iPod.  So it looks like I have some stuff on two different drives... Maybe this has something to do with it not syncing right?
I did check, and my Firewall doesn't have iTunes blocked.
As you can see, I'm not very experienced with all of this... Sorry for the confusion.  If you are interested in helping me and have any questions, please let me know.
I'm hoping someone will be able to help me... I desperately want to be able to listen to my podcasts, as I'm a stay-at-home Mom of 4 little ones, and the podcasts are kind of an "escape" for me when the children are napping or playing. :-)
Thank you in advance for your help!

Oh my goodness!!  I am absolutely thrilled right now B-rock!!  I don't know how I missed it, but when I went back to change the setting like you mentioned, I noticed that the very top box that says "Sync Podcasts" wasn't checked!  I have no idea why... But my heart started to race when I checked that box and all of a sudden it started syncing all my podcasts!!  It's gonna take a long time (I have 385 of them!), but I am just so happy you helped me with this problem.  Thank you SO much!

  • I have my first iPhone (5c) and I have an iPod classic 160GB.  Can I sync poth with iTunes on my PC?

I have lost some podcasts.  I have a new (my first) iPhone and I want to sync it and my classic iPod with iTunes on my PC.  Can this be done and if not, how can I recover my lost podcasts?  They are no longer available for free as I first got them through subscriptions.
    iPhone 5c
Windows 7 (fully up to date)
    iPod Classic 160GB
Second question:  why are podcasts only available for so short a time now on iTunes Store and on sites like NPR?

I lost maybe a dozen podcasts from multiple podcast collections on iTunes.  They now have little i's on them indicating they cannot be found.  I have only 1 Apple ID.  I use it on iTunes and on my iPhone.  Since I sync'd my iPhone with iTunes for podcasts, a bunch of them have the little i's.  And some seem to be missing from my iPod too, but I can't vouch for them being thre before the sync between iTunes and the iPhone.
These podcasts were not purchased, they were subscribed to and they were free.  Now that they are missing, it will cost me .99 each to replace them and that isn't going to happen, but I'd like to get them back.

  • ITunes 11.1.5 says my iPod Classic (160gb) full when it is not!

I want to say that after iTunes (11.1.3?) my iPod Classic (160gb) will not sync anymore.
I have recently updated iTunes to latest version of 11.1.5 with no luck!
In short, I am using Windows 7 and cannot get my iPod to sync anymore.
I keep getting the error message that my iPod is full and cannot be synced unless I clear some space...and when I say 'space' it wants
another 20gb free to just add a few new albums that I downloaded.
The problem is that I still have 15gb free and IT IS NOT FULL.  With a full capacity of 148gb, I have used ~130gb.  Even in the info bar it shows the correct usage of space on my iPod and shows that there IS free space.
None of it makes any sense and it is completely in error on behalf of Apple.
Also, I am no novice to PC's and have tried everything short of re-installing iTunes, which I refuse to do.
My current PC build is and has the latest software and hardware available and everything up-to-date.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
If you need anymore info from me then just let me know.
    Many thanks

First of all, let's get a few things straight.
    me too said:
I purposely created several different threads because I wasn't sure which discussion to enter in and it is my opinion that it fit into any of these categories.
Actually, you posted the same thing into the iPod Classic forum four times, and one additional thread in (if I recall correctly) the iTunes for Windows forum. That's impolite; at best it simply clutters up the forum with unnecessary threads, which can cause other people's valid posts to be missed in the mass; and at worst, you'll get responses to more than one of your threads which will confuse, not just you, but anyone trying to help you. I've seen it happen.
I'll ask again, please refrain from multiple posting.
    me too said:
I am also aware that the "other" is my album art.
    No it is not.
There is always a small amount of Other on an iPod, but large amounts of Other indicates data that has become corrupted and cannot be used by the iPod.
Your screenshot, which finally confirms the actual message you are getting, suggests that despite what you may believe, you are trying to Sync at lest 22GB of media to your iPod. One album in .wav form would only take up about 700MB, so you have to work out what else is set to Sync. Check the photos pane (just along from Summary) to make sure that there isn't an album of photos set to Sync. Also check the other panes as well, for Podcasts, videos etc. that you may not have realised are set to Sync.
If all else fails, start taking music off your iPod, so that this unknown media can be put on. That way, at least you will be able to see what is being put on that you didn't know about. Then, you can take that off and put back on only what you want.
Let me just make a final suggestion: your comment ...
"None of it makes any sense and it is completely in error on behalf of Apple."
... isn't going to help you in any way. Stop blaming Apple and look for the actual problem. Once you find the problem, and can therefore see the cause, then - if you must - you can blame someone.
