Playlist order occasionally reverses after sync

I keep my many playlists in a very specific order, typically by number so that the songs added most recently to the playlist at the top. But every so often, the order of the playlist will get completely reversed on my phone and in iTunes after a sync. It's easy to fix, but I usually don't notice it until I'm away from my computer and can't resync it to put it back in the proper order. It's so annoying, but also strange that it only happens on occasion. It's been doing this for quite a long time and hasn't been fixed through the various iOS or iTunes updates. What could be causing this?

In iTunes select the playlist name and *Copy to play order* then sync.
Or you can just go set Settings -> Shuffle* to Songs on the iPod and play the playlist.

Having the same problem. I have an 8gig Nano touch my wife just bought. When I add a playlist it doesn't show up after sync. I have it set up to manual sync, so I should be able to drag & drop like all my other devices.
It shows that it is on there when connected to the MacBook Pro, but does not show up on the iPod after eject.

You should be fine. Just make sure that you download and install the P2 drivers for your PB. Also, if possible transfer directly to your external. P2 cards can eat up a lot of space very quickly and you don't want to overburden your system drive.

Smart playlists disappeared in iPhone after syncing

Is there a way to make my Smart Playlists reappear in Music? After recently syncing my iPhone, all of the smart playlists disappeared on the phone itself. The entire library is on the phone as well as playlists I created, but the standard smart playlists no longer appear in the index of playlists. In iTunes, they still appear in the device's contents. I just can't seem to get to them through the phone itself.

I have been having the same probelm. Tonight I right clicked on each playlist and chose the option "Duplicate" I then deleted the original. After doing this with each playlist the new duplicates sync with my iphone just like the old ones used to. Hope that helps.

Playlist order not maintained when synced

I have tried all of the suggestions in the support community for syncing a playlist in the order I want. I have sorted it by the left most col and date added and when it syncs, it is always in Artist order. It is a smart playlist that takes the first song of each album I add to the Nano playlist and allows me to determine the order they appear so I can remember the newest items I added. I have done this on other iPods, but can't get it to work on the 7g Nano.
Anybody have any ideas? I am still using iTunes 10. Don't have the nerve to upgrade to 11.

This inability to match my playlist in iTunes exactly kinda makes my smart playlists worthless. Guess I'm returning this 7G nano and going back to my 3G nano for now...

How to restore deleted playlists to an itouch after syncing with wrong device. Tried to search for device to restore under devices and it completely removed it as a device on itunes. Is there anyway to get the information back?

To start we have several users and devices on our itunes account....Several weeks ago I was using my itouch to create playlists for a few aerobics classes that I teach. Right before I was about to unplug the itouch I got a notification that my itouch was full and didnt have any space left. Since I was done with what I was doing at the time, I unplug my itouch and figured I would delete unwanted songs later to create more room. A week later, I went to sync my itouch into itunes and over the devices it told me that it was named another device and wanted to know if i wanted to sync the information to my itouch I had just plug in. I had never seen this message before in all the other times I had used it, and at the time I didnt realize that it was giving my device the name of another user in my house. Without realizing it itunes started to sync the new information to my itouch. I immediately unplugged the usb cable stopping the process. I then replugged the usb cable in, hoping to get done what I needed to get done on my itouch thinking it might have just been a strange glitch. Also, since I hadn't notice any change on my itouch from the incorrect syncing, I continued to start itunes again. This time it asked me the same question as before "did I want to sync the information from another ipod?". Since I didnt notice any changes before I just let it do the syncing not realizing at the time that it was earsing all the info I had on my itouch and replacing it with info coming from the other users ipod.
I contacted Apple and they gave me infomation on how I could go look for my itouch under devices and get the information back. When I did this my itouch was no longer there under the devices and it was replaced with the new name that itunes had given my itouch. This device is one of the first generation itouches and has never been backed up that I know of... So my question to you all is...Is there any way of getting my playlists back???? I spend countless hours creating these playlists for my classes and have been completely out of my mind trying to figure out how I can possibly get the infomation back. Please let me know if you think there might be a way to do this!!!

The devices that are listed are: 2 under the name of the device that synced incorrectly with mine and then 3 others that are not associated with my itouch. The name of the ipod, before the incorrect sycning is no longer under devices. It has been replaced with the incorrect one because I can see the serial # of my ipod under the wrong name.
The playlists that are in my itunes library are from an ipod that I used a few times before I took this one over... Which happens to be the ipod that took on the ID of my itouch.
Both of these ipods used to be my kids.. I used my sons a few times and then switched to my daughters. They each had their names attachted to their particular devices and now it just says my sons, which is the ipod that itunes was connecting to when all this happened. The really strange thing is my son doesnt use his ipod any longer and now uses his phone for music...So, it had been a while since that particular device was even synced to itunes!

Playlists incomplete on iPhone after syncing

In the last week, when I've synced my iTunes library with my iPhone, only 5 or so songs from my playlist are transferring... What's going on?
All of the music is there, but the playlists aren't fully transferring.

No one has any suggestion as to what might be wrong?

I have my ipod classic for many years, but recently encountered problems after sync. Itunes changes the order of tracks in my playlists. I want them be ordered by album, but itunes ordered it by "ticked". I tried to change it before sync. First this seem to be work, but now the order is again wrong. I find this really annoying, because "ticked" seemed to mean to be similar to "by name" of tracks. This does not make any sense for my music.
Any ideas, what I can do?

Keeping my itunes playlist order after I sync to iPod Nano 7th Gen

So I created a playlist but I am having trouble keeping the order of songs after I sync. I have tried rating them as well but as soon as I sync, Alphabetical order is what I get. Any thoughts?

In iTunes, go to your playlist. On the playlist, click on its column header row at the far left end, above the column with sequential numbers below. That sorts the playlist by playlist order, and you can change the song order by dragging songs around on the list. You may have done this already.
If you sync this playlist to the iPod, it should appear in that order on the iPod.
If it does not, you may not be looking at the playlist on the iPod. If you select the list of All Songs on the iPod, it will be in alphabetical order. Even if you only have one playlist synced to the iPod, the All Songs list is not the playlist. If you select the playlist on the iPod, it should be in playlist order.

When downloading updates from iTunes to my iPhone my playlists appear in reverse order with least played at the top. I just want the playlist to appear in the same order as my iTunes library. This seems to have changed after downloading iCloud

Is this temporary cache accessing my data when I play songs from it? As I mentioned in my previous post, I'm still able to listen to these songs even when my phone is in airplane mode and the download icon is still present next to said songs. This implies that the songs are already downloaded onto my phone even if I didn't opt to download them directly from the cloud -- they're on my phone because my phone was shuffling my library on a wifi network.

Music sort order not the same as iTunes after syncing

iTunes 10.5.2.1 and iPhone 4S 5.0.1
Firstly, this is NOT in relation to smart playists, or the smart playlist bug already identified. I'm having the issue with the fundamental level playlists (ie non-created: Artist etc) within iPhone.
Can sort in iTunes however I want. However when synced to iPhone some (not all - seemingly random) artists are out of order compared to iTunes, and some even appear in 2 places. An example would be Alice Cooper where I have changed "Sort Artist" to Cooper Alice and thus appears in "C" in iTunes. However appears in "A" in iPhone. But in other cases Alanis Morissette, where I have also changed "Sort Artist" to Morissette Alanis & appears correctly in "M" in iTunes, appears under both "A" and "M" in iPhone - ie this artist & all songs by this artist appear twice: under both "A" and "M".
So the problem does not manifest the same way every time. Near I can guess it seems to occur on songs which I imported with additional information under "Album Artist" - my iTunes is all sorted by "Album by Artist/Year" & this seems to override the information in "Artist" & sort by this first. So for instance you would have Artist=Alice Cooper, Album Artist=Alice Cooper, and Sort Artist=Cooper Alice. Even though you have specified that you want to sort by "Cooper Alice", the sorting is based on Album Artist "Alice Cooper" first and it appears in "A". Deleting the Album Artist info causes iTunes to correctly re-sort into "C". However iPhone still retains under "A" (or both "A" and "C") after syncing.
So perhaps this is a sync glitch rather than a sort glitch with iPhone?

Reverse playlist ordering

I have several playlists in iTunes which I sync to my iPod. Looking at the contents of the iPod when connected to the computer in iTunes, one of the playlists displays in in reverse order but plays in the correct order on the iPod. All the other playlists display correctly ... any comments or advice to fix this?

In that playlist click into the area above the 1st column showing numbers.

Songs I purchased in iTunes, after syncing with my iPhone and iPad, show up in the library and playlist on the computer. They are in the songs lists on both devices but do not actually transfer to the playlist on either though the computer says they have.

I purchased four songs in iTunes, downloaded them, then did a sync with both my iPhone and iPad. All songs show up in the libraries of both devices. I then added these songs to a playlist on the computer then synced both devices again. According to iTunes on the computer, all four songs are in the playlists on both devices. However, on the actual devices, only two of the four are in the playlists. All four are still showing up in the library. I created another playlist specifically for these four songs to see what would happend, dragged them to the playlist on the computer, then did another sync. Once again, according to the computer, all the songs are in the playlists on the devices. However, only two of the four are actually in the playlists on the phone and iPad. Any ideas what's going on?

I had a very similar issue (same playlist). After several frustrating hours of various combinations I was able to sync by changing the options to "manuall sync.." and then "dragging and dropping" the needed playlist from the iTunes Playlist list to the iPhone button (on my itunes setup/view that was from the far left column list of all of my playlist in iTunes to the far upper right "iPhone" button). To sum up "checking" the playlist and syncing didnt work, "drag and droping" the playlist did... at least for now... then I unselected the "manually manage" in the options and re-synced and all playlist were synced correctly. Good Luck.

After syncing Pc-Ipad my Photo's are out of order. In the folders they don't follow the Date-order. I use Itunes 10.6.1.7 and Ipad 5.1. The Problem is the same with XP and Windows 7.

After syncing PC-Ipad my Photo's on Ipad2 are out of order. In the Folders/Albums the Photo's are no longer in the order of (EXIF) dates. I have updated Itunes to 10.6.1.7 and IPad2 to 5.1. I have reset the IPad2. I cleaned the Photo-cache and removed Itunes and Installed again. I tried it with Windows 7 (64) and XP, makes no difference. I tried it with one Album, Photo's also out of order. It doesn't seem to happen with my Ipad1 older software version. I there a bug in the newest software? Thanks for Help!

HT1386 I cannot sync my iPod with the Playlists that I want. For example, I have all the songs in my classical Playlist checked but it doesn't appear in my iPod after syncing. Also I don't get an opportunity to review sync options.

Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with syncing music to your iPod. For issues like this, I recommend resyncing the music to your iPod.
If you are syncing automatically, resync content to the iPod by unchecking "Sync Music" and clicking "Apply," then checking "Sync Music" and clicking "Apply" again.
