Playlist rearranging issues?

Been using Media Player for years and recently switched to iTunes.
I'm noticing a frustrating thing when you create a playlist.
I like to quickly grab a few albums into a 'now playing' playlist and hit go.
The troubling part is that randomly it chooses to lock the play order of songs.
I quite often like to manually rearrange songs within the currently playing list and save it in that particular order but it often 'locks' the song list and I can't figure out how to 'unlock' them. Is this user error or a windows version bug?

1st thing I recommend is run Software Update from the Apple menu.
Restart the computer then run it again.
My problem is that all the songs in my playlists which are created in itunes do not show up in the playlists
If they are in your playlists, how are they not in your playlists?

  • Playlist Sync Issues with new iPod Touch 8G

Hi Guys - This my first post. Just got an iPod Touch 8G for Christmas, and I'm
having some issues with Syncíng it and would appreciate some guidance.
I previously used a Sony PSP as my portable music player, and so my music
is organised into folders, with a .m3u playlist for each folder.
To get the music and the playlist onto the iPod, I tried to use the followqing procedure:
    1. Downloaded and installed iTunes
    2. Registered my iPod and signed up for the iTunes Store
    3. Added one of my folders to the iTunes Library
    4. Synchronised with my iPod (I selected Manually manage music and videos)
Checked that all the songs were downloaded successfully to the iPod, and
    play on the iPOD.
    5. Imported the .m3u playlist into iTunes(File->Library->Import Playlist).
Checked it had all items and could play the tracks from the library.
For some reason, the tracks from the folder now appear twice in the
    Library after this step.
    6. Attempted to sync the playlist to the iPOD. The playlist has 249 tracks,
but for some reason the sync operation fails with error message "Attempting
to copy to the disk 'Joseph Olajubu's iPod' failed. The disk could not be
    written to or read from".
The playlist is partially copied, with between 49 and 208 entries (depending on the sync attempt). Playing the songs from the ipod or creating the playlist directly on the iPOD works. Any idea what's going wrong here? I've tried this operation on 2 different computers with similar results. The iPOD has around 4.5G memroy free. Alternatively, is there software like Anapod available for the iPod Touch if this is an iTunes bug?
Thanks in advance for your help

  • Playlist shuffle issues

    Here's the problem,
Searchin for a specific song using the search box on top of every playlist kicks you out of shuffle.
that never happened to me before. just this update.
therefore, if i wanna hear a song within the shuffled playlist, I have to scroll all the way down just to find the song and continue on the shuffled playlist. Does anyone know how to fix this please?
its just a small thing, but it irritates me coz this never happened before.
    thank you so much!!!

Thank you so much for propmtly coming to my aid! Unfortunately, I have done both of those things and yet the issue remains, arrrgh.  Just for complete clarification(not do to a lack of understanding on your part, but possibley for future viewers), it's not that it won't shuffle, it's that it doesn't play anything after the current song has finished. I have to manually get it to play something else.  once I turn off shuffle it plays thru my playlist fine.  I tried to play it with repeat on (and yes repeat all not just 1....not that dumb thank god.) and the problem persists.  It's pretty frustrating and I am starting to think that maybe something went awry in my recent update of itunes.  Again, thank you for responding so quickly.  If you have anymore suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

  • Recently Played playlist syncing issues

    Hi Apple friends,
I've noticed some odd behaviour with my iPhone 4 since either iOS 5 or my purchase of iTunes Match (I can not recall which is accurate).
I've read a lot about playlist issues with iOS 5 but I have not heard a mention of anything similar to my situation. I usually sync the default playlists of Recently Played and Recently Added with my iPhone 4 running the latest iOS 5.0.1. I am familiar with the Recently Added bug of reversing the order of the playlist and I thin I can live pretty comfortably with that.
Recently Played however will not sync at all. iTunes says it is syncing and in fact it even names newly played files that are syncing over, but they never appear on the phone. In fact, the recently played playlist that is synced successfully at first will slowly get smaller and smaller as if it was actually keeping a count of recently played songs on my phone (which is obviously played less often) when it is supposed to be a count of recently played songs on my iMac.
Even opening up the playlist viewer of what is on my iPhone in iTunes shows the playlist as the proper size of ~200 tracks but then in reality, Music.app shows ~90 tracks at the moment. iTunes never reports an error during sync and a restore to defaults worked with the first sync but it has since gone back to this behaviour.
I had a bunch of 3G problems (Rogers, eh?) with iTunes Match, so I have long had it disabled for months now on my phone. I don't think this can be the issue, although iTunes Match did have a lot of playlist problems when I had it enabled, but many forum posts have shown me that a lot of people had those issues anyways.
I have also tried switching between USB and Wi-fi Sync with no success... Has anyone else seen a similar issue?
My Recently Played playlist uses this filter:
    1. "Last Played" is in the last "2 weeks"
    2. "Media Kind" is "Music"
    3. Match only ticked items
    4. Playlist is live updating (Could this be it?)

Delete the rule saying "Playlist is Music" and see what you get.
Also, make sure you have it set for Live Updating.

  • Playlist Syncing Issue

I recently set up a smart playlist in itunes which keeps track of the 100 most recently added songs to my library. So, when i chose it as a playlist to sync on my iphone it should place the same content from the smart playlist and then place it on the iphone. Well, when i went to listen to it today it had a completely different set of songs which most certainly aren't the most recently added nor are they even songs that were also being added to the iphone through other playlists and things. They are even songs that are unchecked in my library and thus shouldn't even be considered in syncing or playing.
any thoughts? is this an itunes issue or iphone issue?

    Welcome to the forums!
Well known issue -- make sure you add "and is music" to that playlist. Also, another thing that helps is to create and sync another playlist that simply has that first smart playlist as the condition (like "is playlist recent added"). One or both of those things should fix the problem.

  • Playlist deleting issue

Has anyone else had an issue with playlists getting deleted after deleteing a song out of the list ? I have had 2 playlist get deleted because when I hilight the song I want to delete it also hilights the playlist title thus deleting both at the same time. I'm using Win7P 64bit and the latest iTunes.

Right-click on the track and select delete from the menu. If you look closely the active item (tracks or playlist) is highlighted with a blue background while the other has a grey background.

  • "Most Recently Added" Playlist syncing issue

I add music to my iTunes library pretty slowly, so I created this smart playlist to replace the default Recently Added playlist:
    http://www.cubeupload.com/files/45a800smartplaylist.png
In iTunes, this shows me the the 90 most recent Music items I added to my library. On my iPod Touch 2nd Gen, however, it shows me a seemingly random list of songs in my library which were synced to the iPod.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Corey,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
The conditions for your Smart Playlist are specific to the following:
iTunes will pick "90" items, with the parameter of *"most recently added"* - the "most recently added" condition is based of date, too my knowledge it does not encompass time though. - So, if you added more than 200 items and they all share the same date, then iTunes will choose 90 of those 200 items randomly.
Other than that, there may be a metadata error in your files which is causing this issue.
    Regards,
    Peter.

  • Playlist creation issues with Centrale

    Hello,
I've had a Zen X-Fi 32gb for over a year and I love it. However, I have consistently had issues with creating playlists using Centrale. Frequently, when I go to add a song to an existing playlist or a new playlist,Centrale adds the song to a different playlist than the one I intended. I estimate that this happens with about 50% of my playlists. Does anyone else experience this and has anyone figured out how to correct this? It's maddening!
    Thanks,
    Jenn

i've heard similar issues as yours although i'm sorry i cannot be really of help because i do not use it now.

  • Zen Micro: Playlist transfer issues upd

<FONT face=Century color=#663300 size=2>I have been browsing through this forum checking out synchronising issues with the Zen Micro. I have only been able to use the Creative software to physically sync playlists to the device. WMP0 will happily sync the songs, but not the playlist itself.

  • Playlist Rearranged Itself - Can't Change Back?

I created a playlist of the top songs I most often listen to. It was organized based on the date added so the newer songs were at the bottom while the old ones were at the top. For whatever reason after I sync'd my iPod the playlist got rearranged. Is there anyway to organize based on the date added? I see theres a column which says when they were added but going through it manually and moving each song would take too long.

Click on the Date Added column header, and it will sort them by Date Added. Depending whether you want them sorted oldest-to-newest or newest-to-oldest, you may have to click it twice.

  • Playlist shuffle issue.

I have a smart playlist called "Holiday" as I'm sure many of us have. After my update to iTunes 11, I cannot play that playlist on shuffle. All my albums/songs are listed, iTunes says there are 670 songs in the playlist, however when I hit the shuffle button, nothing plays. If you click the "Up next" button it says there are no songs in the playlist. This is happening only to this particular playlist. All my other playlists (smart playlist, genius playlist and manually created playlists) work fine.
I have done the following trying to correct the problem. I deleted the playlist and then recreated a smart playlist using genre. I deleted it again and manually created it by dragging the songs to it, I created a different smart playlist from another genre and it works fine. I creatd a manual playlist with a different name, but with all my holiday genre music in it and it doesn't work.
Wow...I think I just figured this out while typing. I have all my holiday music set to "Skip When Shuffling" so that it doesn't come up when I set my Library to "Shuffle". Who needs to hear Trans Siberian Orchestra in July? This worked fine in iTunes 10.x, as it skipped on a big shuffle, but shuffled when I played the "Holiday" playlist. This really does need to be fixed.
    Kristy

After searching the archives here I see that this has always been the case. Maybe I didn't mark these songs to skip when shuffling until after last Christmas. So what I have to do is unmark these & then re-mark them after the holidays.  Oh bother

  • Playlist sorting issue?

My songs won't match the order they are put in on itunes when a sorting choice is reversed..... why? This used to work before.
    Here are the details:
If I set a playlist to sort by title, it works when it is on A at the top. But if I click title again, so that the list is now setup so that A is at the bottom, it won't sync correctly. Same thing is true with other ways of sorting the playlists. I click on Date Added so that the oldest songs added are on the top, sync, and it works/syncs correctly on my ipod, but then when i click Date Added again so that the most recently added songs are at the top, sync, and it doesn't work (oldest songs are still at top when I want the newest added ones....).

Sort it the way you want, then right-click on the playlist name and click Copy to Play Order.

  • Playlists: DARWINIAN ISSUES or: Some People are Just Stupid.

I have done my best to really make some Great Old Playlists [GOPs] un-restorable.
    Steps:
    1. Take a Mini and make it corrupt enough that it will not find the OS.
    2. While transporting said Mini to the store for Genius help, _LET IT FALL TO GROUND FROM 4 FEET._
    3. Realize that said unit is DOA, and so just go and _PURCHASE 2 MORE MINIs_.
+[Luckily the entire music collection was residing on a separate drive.]+
    4. New systems set up fine, and finds the songs OK. +[Figuring to one day get around to restoring the GOPs]+
    5. Synch all 4 ipods to new system, so GOPs are now wiped from them. [PLAYLSITS STILL SHOW, BUT ARE EMPTY OF SONGS]
I think I have the original "iTunes Library Database" and the "iTunes Music Library.XML" from the *Day of the Fall* [DOF].
But I am one of these people who really doesn't understand the difference between them or how to restore from there.
    OTHER INFO:
Lots of additional songs have been added since the DOF.
Can the GOPs be found from the iPods themselves???? Or what do you do??
Any ideas I am truly appreciative.

Well.... even though i asked Newegg to replace the defective P6T mb - they refunded me instead. Just as well since it's $10 bucks cheaper with free shipping.
In any case, my main requirements other than for the mb to support the i7 920 and have an adequate number of pci, pcix slots, usb ports and no graphics chip - is to have at least 8 internal sata connectors and support at least 16gb of ram. The P6T satisfies that bill.
Unless anyone can recommend another motherboard with similar or better specs for around 250 US dollars, i'd like to know before i reorder the ASUS P6T.
The only other board that Newegg has with similar specs is the:

  • Playlist syncing issues

I have itunes 5.2 on my Mac OS 10.6.8.  (a note:  I've downloaded the itunes 6.3 update several times but it doesn't take).  I have an ipod touch with 5.1 on it.  My problem is that all the songs in my playlists which are created in itunes do not show up in the playlists. I have found no rhyme or reason as to why certain songs do not synch up.  I have tried many remedies which I have seen on line but none work.  I have itunes set to automatically sync all songs.  I even tried changing that to checked songs and just making sure they are checked.  That didn't work either.  I have reset the itunes cache.
One other thing I noticed which might be a clue:  I decided to delete one of the playlists from my ipod thinking it may help to get a fresh copy of it.  So, I deleted it from my Ipod.  Then I synced my ipod thinking that a fresh version of that playlist would show up on my ipod.  Unfortunately, after the sync, that same playlist deleted off itunes.
I also have a bunch of songs grayed out here and there.  No exclamation marks.
I really do not want to reformat my ipod as I'm nervous about loosing all my pocket informant data and calendar dates.  I really do not want to redo itunes as I have thousands and thousands of songs uploaded from my cds and purchased and I've read that others have gone through the hassle and it only helped immediately after reformatting but then the next time they synced it was all a mess again.
And WHY ISN'T APPLE DOING SOMETHING ABOUT THIS!

I use my iPod Touch to create playlists for my dance classes.  I often change the playlists right on my iPod Touch.  When I try to view my playlists on my device through iTunes, the playlist's content does not coincide with the playlist content that is actually on my device.  I can look at them at the same time and they don't match.  I am aware that I can't sync the playlists from my device to my computer using iTunes, but that I can use Senuti to do this.  My problem is that my playlists don't match.  How can I fix this without losiing my current device playllists?
