Playlist Recovery

Without installing a newer version of iTunes or turning my computer off all of my playlists seem to have been removed from iTunes. My library is still intact and the playlists are still on my iPod as of this time, so is there anyway to go in there and get them back without having to manually re-create them?

  • Playlist recovery after installing iTunes 9

Hi, I have installed iTunes 9 stupidly without saving my playlists. I assumed iTunes would keep my library and playlists from iTunes 8, it didn't. I can re-import all the mp3s easily, but can't work out how to get the playlists back. Are they lost forever?
    Thanks

It's hard to tell if this will work now because you have already tried several things, but this should have been your starting point:

iTunes makes a backup copy of your lirbary file in the previous iTunes Libraries folder adn this can be used to restore you library with play lists.

  • Playlist recovery with new laptop

Hi, I've reinstalled iTunes in my computer after he had mother board replaced. I re-installed iTunes and set the right address for my iTunes files but I don't find my playlists anymore. What can I do?

    Hi AlainSevaux,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
I'm including two articles below that may help you with this.  Since you've replaced the motherboard on your computer, the instructions for moving music to a "new" computer may help.  Do you have a backup of your iTunes library on an external drive?  If that does not resolve the issue, then you may need to recreate your playlists.  Click on the links below for more detailed information:

  • Library disappearance/playlist recovery

So my sister wanted to charge her ipod on my laptop, but we didn't want the music in my itunes to overwrite her music, so I changed the settings on my itunes so that it wouldn't automatically sync.
But then for some reason, the next time I opened my itunes, only around 850 of my 5000+ songs were there, and all my playlists were missing. I panicked and checked my itunes music folder, and luckily, all the songs were there, just for some reason not loaded onto itunes. I tried to re-create my itunes library but that didn't work. So I just clicked "Add Folder" and selected my whole iTunes Music folder. So now all the songs are on there, except all the info- play count, rating, date added, etc, is gone.
Later, while trying to figure out how to salvage my playlists, I remembered an old program I used before called Ipod2PC that works just like that- bringing stuff from your ipod to your computer. That will work for my playlists, but it says it could also copy all the songs from your ipod onto your computer, while preserving the play count info and all that. I'd want to do that, but now all my songs are already on itunes. If I used Ipod2PC to copy all my songs from my ipod onto my itunes, would it create duplicate copies of all 5000 songs? Would I then have to delete the original copies (the ones without the play count information)? I don't know what to do- I think I might just leave it alone, but I hate not having my "Top Rated", "Recently Played", "Highest Play Count" etc smart playlists.
Sorry this is so long, but if anyone can offer any help, that'd be awesome. Also, if anyone has any idea HOW this happened... I didn't change anything except for the fact that we charged the other ipod without syncing it.

I would like to see an answer to this as well! for the third or fourth time, itunes has once again screwed up it's own library. (am i the only one with this problem? probably not). and now my only precious playlists left are the ones on my ipod, ie, i have the same problem as in the first post.

  • Recovering playlists and podcasts after system crash

Yes, Windows failed me, forcing a reinstall. Naturally this means I have no access to my iTunes library, all the identifiers being recreated, and therefore incompatible. Now I have all my music files, so recreating the main library isn't too bad, but I also have a whole load of podcast files I don't want to have to download again (many may be gone from their RSS feeds). Is there any way to tell iTunes "this .mp3 belongs to this podcast"?
Also, after reading the post "Computer Crashed" at http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=797432#797432 I have yet to be able to download Ott42's playlist recovery tool from http://otto.homedns.org:8888/iTunes/iPodGetXML.zip and I cannot read accesss the page discussing it (whose link is http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?[email protected]@.689c78f2/0 apparently).
    Any help greatly appreciated!

You can't trun it off, but you can empty the reovery folder if you have a corrupt doc that keeps crashing on restart. The recovery folder, by default and unless you changed it, will be in the same location as the InDesign Defaults file and those paths are listed in the thread about trashing your prefs: Replace Your Preferences

  • Spotify account blocked "under investigation"

The other day I was using my Spotify Account, when i noticed all my playlists had been replaced with other playlists of music I do not listen to, this seemed strange, but I simply went to the playlist recovery and brought them all back.  However on the Spotify connect, I noticed a phone I’ve never seen before "Melanies Iphone" now I know this device is not mine, and I know it's not on my account, I revoked everyone’s rights and changed passwords etc, So I contacted spotify's support to say some error had resulting in the merging of our accounts. They then proceeded to block me from my own account, two days ago and have been absolutely useless at unlocking it. Two days I’ve been waiting, and it's just stupid, I wish I’d never contacted them for help. They've done absolutely nothing to solve my issue and have just made things worse for me and danced around the main issue - you've merged our accounts somehow Is there any way i can fix this from my end and get back into my account, which I pay for?

    Hey
If you post your 8 digit case number here, I can get this looked into for you.

  • New iTunes doesn't let me fill a new playlist with songs off an iPod

THIS USED TO WORK ON OLDER VERSIONS OF ITUNES. I own an ipod Shuffle. Sometimes iTunes Autofills my Shuffle with a cool mix of songs from my iTunes library. I want to make that new set of songs into a new playlist in my iTunes. I used to be able to do this by simply: (1) create a new playlist in iTunes, (2) select all the songs on my Shuffle, (3) drag the songs from my Shuffle on to the new playlist's icon.
Sometimes, I won't use the Autofill feature and I will manually drop songs from my Library into my Shuffle. I'll drop a couple songs on to my Shuffle each day. Over the course of a month, I will have slowly built up a set of songs of all my current favorites on my ipod shuffle. Well, of course, I'd like to make all those songs on my Shuffle into a new playlist in iTunes, so I can "preserve" the set of songs I spent weeks building up. Again, I used to be able to do this very easily, but for some reason, in the latest version of iTunes, I can not drag and drop songs from my Shuffle into a playlist.
Let me make clear, I own all this music and all the songs on my Shuffle are already in my Library on my Macbook. This is a matter of creating PLAYLISTS from whatever songs are on my Shuffle at any given time. PLEASE BRING BACK THIS CAPABILITY.

Turn your phone off, then force it into recovery mode & restore it:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.
Make sure you have no anti-virus software running or any firewalls...turn all of that stuff off.

No, it does not.  It transfers purchases from the iDevice to the computer.  The computer must be authorized for the Apple ID that the content was acquired with.

Are they selected to sync?  Is Manually Manage content on the device selected?

What does that have to do with syncing content to the device?  FYI, nothing.

  • Is there a way to auto sync playlists while manually managing your music?

I used to use WMP11 before I bought an iPod and used iTunes, and in that I was able to auto sync playlists to my Samsung dap, as well as being able to manually drag tracks/albums to it.
Since using iTunes, I have found it is not as accessible in this regard. Of course, you can opt to manually manage your music, but if you do this, it does not auto sync any info. This means that if I drag a playlist to my iPod and alter it at a later stage by adding more tracks, it won't alter it on the iPod unless I manually replace it with the amended one. It also means that any ratings that I set on my iPod do NOT get transfered to the tracks in iTunes when connected.
What I have done is set a playlist called 'iPod Tracks' in iTunes, and have dragged any extra albums to my iPod using that, as well as the smart playlist 'Top Tracks'. But the disadvantage of this is, if I drag a few songs from an album into my 'iPod Tracks' playlist, then later decide I want the whole album and drag that over, I end up with two of the same tracks in the playlist, which makes it look very untidy (although I am aware only one of each track will be on the iPod) so it is not ideal.
Surely there must be a way to auto sync playlists so that when you amend them in iTunes it does so on the iPod too, as well as manually drag over any extra tracks/albums you want without having a messy playlist work-around like I have done.
    Any help/ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

There is no way to sync content back to itunes. As you are aware there are a couple of unsupported ways to recover your content, you will need to decide if your content is valuable enough to go down this route.
If so and you are not comfortable with the procedures, I suggest taking the unit to a data recovery specialist with mac experience.

  • Help!  /var/db/BootCaches.playlist 2:no such file or directory appeared; unable to start up

    I use a MacBook Pro, Mid-2009 version.
My problem started when I tried tweaking some system files via Terminal when I could no longer use Candy Bar for Mavericks. I followed the instructions here http://idevicedailys.com/os-x/howto-use-candybar-os-x-mavericks/ I was quite successful but not all of my icons changed so I downloaded the 10.9 patch for Candybar. The fix did not work, so I tried using the sudo nano /System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist command again. Afterwards, I tried opening Candybar, but it would no longer open. I then restarted my Macbook, but it would no longer load into the desktop. What happens is that after loading, the cursor would show up, the screen would blink, and then the loading icon (the gray rotating thing) would show up again, and then the cursor appears. This happens again and again. At some point, the loading icon would just freeze.
I tried rebooting to safe mode, but it will not work. /var/db/BootCaches.playlist 2 cannot be found I tried accessing Terminal through the Startup Disk screen (the one you get to when you press cmd + r during reboot) but the sudo nano commands won't work anymore. Also, instead of nano, what I see in my Terminal is 'bash'
Is there still hope for my mac?
    Help is very much appreciated!

Do a backup. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors. Then reinstall the OS.

  • /var/db/BootCaches.playlist 2:no such file or directory appeared after Mavericks update

    Hi all,
I have tried to upgrade my iMac 2009 running 10.6.8, 3.06GHZ, 4GB ram machine and hit upon a grey load up screen and nothing more after the update. I have worked back through everything I could find in these forums as the bellow:
    1. Completed all of the grey screen advice from Apple bar a full wipe and rebuild, but have left this as the last resort
    2. Launched again from back up and reloaded Mavericks only to get the same problem
    3. Tried to launch in Safe mode and the computer quits half way through the status bar and will not launch into Safe mode
    4. Corrected all disk permissions in Disk Utility
    5. Checked my EFI update and am running the latest version
    6. Tried resetting the NVRAM but computer will not work from the keyboard shortcuts
    7. Run Verbose mode where I could see the problem with loading Bootcache which produces the following script /var/db/BootCaches.playlist 2:no such file or directory
    8. Created a carbon copy backup also and am now considering a full wipe
I have updated to Mac Book Airs in the last few weeks, and after the computer auto restarts the program then moves to a new processing screen where it finalises writing script, this point never happened on my iMac and after it restarted it just hung on the grey screen with the Apple logo. It is definitely in the Bootcache problem as this is one of te last processes and matches the amount of time the computer starts working before it heads into the grey hanging screen of death. This is definitely something that mavericks script alters, moves or deletes as I have seen this problem littered across the forums as well as the in ability for Safe mode now to work.
I am back up and running 10.6.8 at current and downloading a new version of Mavericks (more fool me). It could be a drive corruption but am unsure, but the computer s working well on 10.6.8 and has done for a very long time. Has anyone solved this yet, as t s driving me crazy!!!
Any Jedi's out there, I would be most indebted to you!

    Hi all,
Well I thought I would re-post as have found a solution.
I created a bootable USB version of Mavericks using this article here which was very informative: http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/apple-in-the-enterprise/how-to-create-a-bootabl e-usb-to-install-os-x-mavericks/
I then rebooted via it, this again caused the grey screen of death as I thought it would, from reboot to reach this screen I held the Option Button. Before I did this I took a cloned copy of the hard drive and also backed-up again to Time Machine. Have over 470GB of music, photos and films, so yes was being a little over precautious.
I then rebooted and went into recovery mode (Cmd and R) and erased my hard drive.
I then rebooted once again but booted from my Mavericks USB version now with a clean hard drive, and set-up completed as expected with no problems. Its working beautifully at current but am yet to migrate files using the migration assistant, but once I have the new Mavericks version of my machine backed-up I will complete the migration, fingers crossed!
A few days of pain, but was a good learning experience. It was more difficult than it should be to created a bootable USB, but luckily I had another mac to work on and a decent back-up drive.
    Hopefully helpful to others!

  • ITunes - 2 user accounts - How do I combine to get one set of Playlists ...

I am very new to Mac. I have 2 user accounts set-up (really would rather have only one), and the iTunes is different under each account. I would like to only have one set of iTunes Music library and Playlists. Can anyone help me out?

No, you need firewire (if your Mac has a FW port) - see some info here under setup:
    http://pondini.org/OSX/Home.html
To go back to the startup menu, you can use recovery - see info here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
You'd basically start with key commands Command + Option + R, choose Disk Utility to erase the drive and then Apple's servers will reinstall the OS. Once that is done, the setup will begin and Setup Asst will be offered in the beginning (it's only offered once - you decline and you have to use Migration Asst or start over).
