Playlist shuffle resetting

Hey all:
For the longest time I had a 4th gen ipod and (obviously) the previous version of itunes. What I enjoyed doing was creating a regular playlist and putting all my favorite songs in there. Then I would hit shuffle and sync the playlist to my ipod. The shuffled order would stay no matter how many times I synced until I went into the playlist in itunes and reshuffled it (and then I would sync it and the cycle would continue).
However, I recently purchased a 2nd gen ipod touch and upgraded to itunes 8. Now, I can shuffle the playlist and sync it to my ipod, and the order is shuffled like it's supposed to be on the ipod, but when I resync my ipod to my computer the song order in the playlist resets to the order in which they were added. This is very frustrating, as I like to get through the whole playlist before I start again!
Thanks for any assistance,
-CEJ

Right-click the playlist name and select "Copy to Play Order."

  • IPod shuffle reset on shutdown

I have an iPod gen 6, when shut down, shuffle resets song playing to #1 and restarts shuffle of playlist on next start up, is there any way to stop the reset?

I understand what you are saying now...  However, it does not work that way on my 5th gen nano.  When I play a playlist in shuffle mode, I can turn the iPod OFF while playing a song (that's not the first one), and when I turn it ON later, the song's number stays the same.  I tried it after a few minutes, and also after about one hour.  The number stays the same.
I also have a very old 3rd gen "big" iPod (2003 model).  It seems to work the same way.  The song's number does not change when the iPod is turned OFF/ON.
Your nano is 6th gen, so the software design may have been changed.  The nano changed quite a bit between 5th gen and 6th gen.  Did you try this...?  Play a song on the shuffle list.  Tap next song and remember that song.  Tap next song again, and remember that song.  Repeat until you know the next five songs or so in the sequence, and go back to the original song you were playing.  Turn OFF the iPod.  Turn ON the iPod and resume playing that song.  When you tap next song a few times to see what songs are coming up, is it the same sequence as before you turned OFF the iPod, or is it now different?

  • Shuffle resets on 6th Generation Nano

I like to listen to my playlists on shuffle, but I don't like to hear the same song too frequently.  On my 6th gen iPod Nano, my shuffle resets itself if I let it power down.  In other words, I might turn off my iPod with the track listing reading "23 of 100," and when I turn it on in the morning, the song I was listening to is queued up to exactly where I left off, but the track listing reads "1 of 100."  I never had this problem on the 4th or 5th gen Nanos.  Any ideas on how (or if) this can be fixed?

    No.

How are you resetting the password?
Resetting User Password in Lion, Mountain Lion & Mavericks
Boot into your Recovery Partition by hold down the Command and R keys whilst booting.
When the Recovery screen appears, go to the Utilities menu and open Terminal.
    In Terminal, type:
    resetpassword
...a small app will open and allow you to choose the user for whom you want to change the password. If you are the admin, be certain that you choose your admin user. Type in your new password twice and give yourself a good hint. Click OK (or Done or whatever) and reboot, enjoying the use of your new, hopefully memorable, password.
    Good luck,

  • IPod shuffle Reset Utility & older "error 1418" thread

As you probably noticed, there's already an announcement about the iPod shuffle Reset Utility on this forum. As the announcement says, this utility indeed solves problems that were, until now, unsolved. One example is the "error 1418" problem discussed in the following thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3191414
I think it would be really useful if there was a reply on that thread linking to the announcement, since people searching about that issue will most likely find that thread, and not the announcement (precisely what happened to me). The problem is that the thread is locked, but perhaps a forum admin can do it.
If that's not possible, the author of the announcement could at least edit it so that it includes the term "error 1418" (to increase the chance of people searching for that term to find that page).
I apologize if this has been suggested before.

I did not touch my shuffle for 3 days, tried it in my computer again, and it still failed. All the same problems. No lights and none of the programs acknowledged it, except the reset utility, which gave me the same error message.
So, I returned here, praying for answers. Nothing. For some reason, I tried turning the ipod on, and BOOM, I got a green light and it seemed okay. Tried it in my computer again, and now it works! I've reset it anyway (through itunes), and all seems well.
I guess time does heal all wounds. Thanks to everyone who tried to help. Assume all worked out unless you hear from me again.
No more radio for me! (again)... yeah.

  • Playlist shuffle problems

I'm having issues with playlist shuffling on my iPhone 4, and the only discussion I found with the same problem remained unanswered.  I have a playlist of various classical music that I want to shuffle randomly, and it won't.  If I play it in order, all 53 songs will play and can repeat in order.  If I select "Shuffle" from the list of songs, or if I hit the blue "shuffle" icon on the cover art, it changes from "1 of 53" to either "1 of 8" or "1 of 9" (depending on which song happens to be playing).  The smaller groups don't seem to be based by artist or by album, but I can't get it to shuffle all 53 songs. I tried making a smart playlist by genre, and I tried making the playlist manually.  Nothing seems to work.  I have another mixed playlist with various artists and multiple albums, and it functions normally: I can get it to shuffle randomly through all 51 songs across albums and artists no problem.  There must be some property of the music files or the playlists that I'm missing that's causing this bug, but I'm at my wit's end.  Any suggestions?

Do all the songs in your playlist have a check in the box to the left of each song's name?  Songs without a check will be ignored unless specifically selected to play. If you don't see the checkboxes, go to iTunes > Preferences > General and check "Show list checkboxes".
To check or uncheck all boxes on a Mac with one click, hold down the Command (cmd) key and click on one of the checkboxes with the mouse.  You can use this in a library, a playlist or in search results.
If the check marks are not the source of your problem, select one of the songs that won't play when shuffling. Open the song's information window (cmd + I or File > Get Info) and click the Options tab. Check that "Skip when shuiffling" is not checked.

  • Making A Playlist Shuffle?

Is it possible to make a playlist shuffle, so you can add all the music and it won't play the same band till all the songs you chose are through with that artist?

Ya, in the iPod settings, if you set it so it shuffles music, your playlists will be shuffled as well. At least it certainly is working that way on mine. Even when I pull up an artist and a specific album to listen to, it shuffles that album. So in my experience it is the iPod's setting that determines if shuffles is ON or not and if it is ON, then everything gets shuffled, library, play list, album, etc.

  • ITunes playlist shuffle feature

I have always found the iTunes playlist shuffle feature fails to play all my songs and only accesses a narrow selection and then repeats thes without ever playing a broad selection of my playlist. Is there a way to overcome this?

Yes. Go to SETTINGS > SHUFFLE, and set it to SONGS. Then, go back, highlight the name of your playlist and press PLAY. It will play just that playlist, and it will be shuffled.

  • Shuffle reset utility.

Hi, just an amusing (to me) story.
I successfully used the shuffle Reset Utility and the first song that my Emac chose to autofill was 'Resurrection Shuffle' by Ashton, Gardner & Dyke. Weird, huh.

  • Apple iPod shuffle Reset - saves broken iPods :-)

Apple has just released Apple iPod shuffle Reset - 1.0 which says it can restore your faulty iPod Shuffles suffering from orange & Green Flashing lights.

    Hope this helps!

IF it's blinking alternating green and two orange (for 10 seconds) it needs to be reset. In this case you can try restoring it in iTunes.
IF, on the other hand, it's blinking alternating green and orange (for 2 seconds)
it's telling you that there's NO playable content on it.
    WHICH is it?

  • Why aren't my playlists shuffled?

When I look at a playlist on my computer, the playlists are shuffled. But on my iPod, the lists stay in alphabetical order. I've reset my iPod, restarted my computer, connected the iPod, disconnected the iPod. Any other suggestions?

On the iPod, go to SETTINGS > SHUFFLE and set it to SONGS. Then, go back & play a playlist & it will play shuffled.
    Cheers!

  • Playlist shuffle always plays the same few songs

I got a playlist that has roughly 250 songs. Everytime I connect my Ipod to charge it, then disconnect and start the playlist on shuffle mode, there's always a 20 to 30 songs playing first. If I close my Ipod and start the playlist again (still on it most of the time), it shows 1 of 250 and plays the same songs, but not in the same exact order (though sometimes it does for 2 or 3 songs). Just like if the shuffle was on "low" mode or something. It's still choose randomly some song here and there, but not that much since it the same few, ALL THE TIME for a while. The only way to get around this is to connect my Ipod to my computer again (it reset it somehow) or leave it open all the time so it knows wich song has been played (but that's terribly stupid). Is there any other way to go around that shuffling loop? I found myself skipping most of the time since I always hear the same few songs even though there's some songs in the playlist I've never ever played on the Ipod. Is there a way to set the "priority" (like play the most higher rated song first) or the "intensity" (from low to high) of the shuffle?
Got the last 7th gen. Ipod Nano.

On the iPod's Now Playing screen, there is a Shuffle button.  The symbol looks like two arrows crossing.  Is that set to ON?
I ask this because shuffing a playlist should NOT always put the same 20-30 songs at the top of the list. Shuffle means a randomly ordered list is created and played.  If the original playlist is in a somewhat random playlist order to begin with, playing it in play-in-order mode may seem like it is shuffling, even though the iPod is playing the list in playlist order.  And the same songs would be at the top of the list every time, because the iPod not shuffling the list.
Sorry if that's too basic, but I need to ask the obvious question first, and that question is, IS is the iPod actually set to shuffle songs?

  • IPad Nano Won't automatically Advance to next song in *specific* Playlist, shuffle is enabled

I have a 4th generation iPod Nano that was working properly up until last week, and now it's not working for no apparent reason.
There is a playlist I use to work out with, and all of a sudden it stopped automatically advancing to the next/ another song when the first song in the playlist is over. It just stops all together and goes back to the main playlist screen.
Shuffle has been enabled in both the settings and within the playlist but nothing has changed:(
It's working properly with all other playlists. Super weird. I just reset my ipod and I have the latest version of iTunes and Ipod software. Nothing.
    Any suggestions??

Have you tried removing and resyncing this playlist to your iPod via iTunes?  Are the songs on this playlist in any other playlist on your device?
Do the songs otherwise play normally on your device?
