Playlist shuffles through list without playing

I have a list of 50 spoken-word cd's that I've added to iTunes as audiobooks.  I put them all in a playlist.  When I play the list on my PC or iPad, it works fine, but when I try to play it on my iPhone, it does one of two things.  Either it shuffles through the list without playing, or it goes back to the previous screen.  I tried deleting the list on my iPhone and recreating it in iTunes and then resyncing, but no luck.. Suggestions?
Thanks,
Amy

Thank you for taking the time to respond!  I was just on phone with Apple Tech support, and when we disconnected, phone was working perfectly.  60 seconds later, the big black square with turning wheel in middle REAPPEARED saying "connecting to..." And 2 seconds later all music was removed from phone.  I reconnected phone to Air, sync'd AGAIN, and at this MOMENT I have music......go figger!

  • IPod cycles through titles without playing

When I select a playlist, then a song title, the iPod cycles through the titles very fast without playing them then returns me to the menu the catgories menu.
    I have updated everything.
    thanks

Does this happen to your entire collection, or just a playlist?
The reason I ask is,I just solved the same problem that cropped up today on my 3rd Gen iPod.
I purchased 13 songs yesterday with a gift certificate. I created a playlist called "new iTunes" on the iPod. The tracks played fine just this morning (off the iPod itself). This afternoon, they only played through iTunes when the iPod was connected to my computer. Otherwise, the playlist just scrolled like you're describing.
The weird thing was, even if I selected an individual song through the "Songs" or "Artists" menu, it would go back and scroll through the playlist. So I tried deleting the playlist in iTunes.
Now it seems to work fine. Not sure what happened... corrupted playlist maybe? Perhaps deleting the playlist broke the connection between them or something.

  • Playlist shuffle and/or continous play

    Gentlemen,
just got the new Apple TV, which in general works great. Only two problems concerning the music playlists via iTunes:
    Problem 1:
    - I am sucessfully connected to my iTunes playlists and can see every single album/title on my TV
    - I also can select one single title and play that music
    - but when I select Shuffle (in fact, it's "Zufällige Wiedergabe", as I am using the german Version), it gives me an error message like "Content not available" (rough translation). I also got this error message when I try to access that playlist not via the remote, but via the remote app on iPhone
    Problem 2:
    - If I select one single title in a playlist, I would expect that after the end of that song it plays the next one in that playlist. But it's not happening. So I would need to selecr every single title after the end of another one - very annoying.
Somewhere here in the forums somebody wrote that at least problem 2 is an error that was fixed with the latest update of Apple TV. But yesterday after installation, Apple TV already updated itself - so it looks like it does not work for me.
Can you guys help me with the two problems?
    Kind regards
    Alex

For your first problem, it sounds like your songs are unchecked in your iTunes library. Unchecked songs will not play through shuffling and playlists. They appear slightly grey instead of white and are only able to be played by selecting that particular song. Your second problem is likely related to that fact. Make sure your songs are checkmarked in your iTunes Library and that should resolve all your issues.

  • Shuffles thru songs without playing them

Mini shuffles thru songs lists on album or will shuffle, brings up info but does not play song then moves to next song. Mini is recognized as a drive but not recognized on I tunes. Have tried reseting. Cannot restore with updater due to not being recognized on itunes. When hooked upto USB you get do not disconnect. occasionlly there is a symbol of 2 arrows rotation in a circle on the left upper corner. Can mini be formatted from pc then use updater to restore? Any other ideas?
    Thanks

Might not help. but you have to be in the "library" to edit them. Maybe you are trying to change in the "Ipod" section.
Got to check the easy things first, right? Hope this solves it.

  • My ipod classic 160gb will be playing fine then it sometimes freezes up or start shuffling through the songs not playing at all. After i reset it works ok for a while then same thing. Bought this so i could control through my steering wheel/radio.

I sure hope someone can help me with these ipod classic 160gb issues.
My ipod classic 160gb will be playing fine and then freeze up (unable to move around in it at all) and i have to reset it. This happens constantly whether in my car or when i listen at work. After i reset it works ok for a while then eventually requires another reset.
Another problem is that it will be playing fine and then start shuffling through songs without playing them. The songs that get shuffled work fine in the itunes program but not on the device. A reset does not correct the problem with these particular songs.
Also, sometimes when it is working and not freezing up or shuffling through, it will appear that a song is playing (in fact it says "now playing"), the song titlte is scrolling, but the song progression bar does not move. The count up in front of the bar stays at 0:00, and the count down at the end of the bar stays at the song length minutes not counting down. After I reset, it works fine and all the songs will play.
The reason I got this thing was because i can control it through my steering wheel/radio while i'm driving. I previously had a Zune 80gb which i'm glad I held on to. I have over 6600 songs (so I'm obviously a serious music listener and obviously frustrated), but only about 10 songs were downloaded through itunes, the rest I either ripped or downloaded from other site. From what i've been reading it sounds like there's a lot of ipod owners out there experiencing similar problems. Does anyone have any suggestions to resolve these issues for me and everyone else? I got my first iphone 8 months ago, then the ipod and was considering an ipad. But in light of my ipod issues.....
I hope someone can help me and convince me it wasn't a mistake to go Apple! Thanks!!

I finally resolved my problem after spending way too much time on it. I simply handed my 160GB iPod to my husband to put his fav Stones & Beatles songs on and I went back to my 80GB Microsoft Zune which has never disappointed me.
After spending so much time trying to figure this out I did finally take it back to Apple Store who performed a diagnostic and found there was a problem with the device. They replaced it with a refurbished one which has similar issues. All I wanted to do was listen to my music. Was that too much to ask? So I am happy to be free of this problematic device. No more Apple for me!!

  • Home Sharing: Music App on iPhone and iPad skips from track to track without playing.

Home Sharing is working from my iMac, OSX 10.9.3, iTunes 11.2.2(3) to my AppleTV, 6.1.1. I can see my iTunes library and play/view music, video and photos. No problems.
I have problems when trying to do the same on my iPhone and iPad.
Using the Music app on my iPhone 4, iOS 7.1.1 I frequently have to re-connect to my iTunes library. However nothing will play in any mode. It just skips from one tune to the next right through to the end of the list without playing any of them.
Using the Music app on my iPad 2, iOS 7.1.1 connecting to my iTunes library is more reliable. Single tunes play through, albums & playlists play through all tunes in sequence. However if I select shuffle then it just skips from one tune to the next right through to the end of the list without playing any of them.
I have only tried sharing to my iPhone/iPad in the last few days so I have no experience of doing this on previous versions.

    Today
Music on iPad does not even give me the Sharing option.
Music on iPhone offers Sharing and does indeed connect to my iTunes library. It has all my albums on display. Whoopee you think, is ths a breakthrough? Unfortunately, NO. Play any album and it just skips from one tune to the next right through to the end of the list without playing any of them.
Please bear in mind that no infrastructure has changed during these posts. Same network, hardware and software.
    Conclusion:
Home Sharing is useless except between iMac and AppleTV.
Is there anyone out there in Apple land who can convince me otherwise?

  • ITunes playlist shuffle feature

I have always found the iTunes playlist shuffle feature fails to play all my songs and only accesses a narrow selection and then repeats thes without ever playing a broad selection of my playlist. Is there a way to overcome this?

Yes. Go to SETTINGS > SHUFFLE, and set it to SONGS. Then, go back, highlight the name of your playlist and press PLAY. It will play just that playlist, and it will be shuffled.
    CHeers!

If you go to the Now Playing screen, the Repeat control is the the arrowed racetrack icon on the left side right below the scrubber bar. Tap the icon to change. It is white when Repeat is off.

Select the songs, press CTRL+I to Get Info, on the Options tab set Skip when shuffling to Yes.
If you want to the hide the songs from your main music view you could consider changing the media kind to audiobooks or podcasts if you don't mind the side effect of them showing up there instead.

    I have an ipod touch 32gb. Model: MC008BT Version: 5.1.1. 3rd ed.
Recently when clicking play on any song the ipod will shuffle through as many songs as there are in the album or playlist until it reaches the end without playing any songs. It also does not go through each song. For example:
a 62 song playlist. I start on song 16. Immediatly the song will shuffle: 16-26-54-62 and then back to the main screen. Also when the songs are shuffling the play button in the top right corner is on.
Music will play if i start from track one with shuffle turned off and repeat turned on. But then i am limited each time to 1-5 songs.
Ipod has been in excellent working order since this has happened.
any suggestions on how to fix?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Playlist shuffle malfunction, doesnt play all the way through playlist

My 8gB iPod 4 gen when I shuffle a playlist it will stop and go back to the tracklisting without playing all the way through the playlist. I recently updated it and it started doing it. what should I do?

I have an iPod Classic but have the same problem with several songs. When I restore the iPod, it just makes different songs skip.

  • Iphone 5 shuffling through playlist and not playing what I want.

I loaded my playlists from my old iPhone to the new 5 and when I want to listen to a specific song the phone will shuffle through a few songs and play a different song. WHen I go back and try and play the song I want it will shuffle again. I have the shuffle feature turned off with the music playing as well as Settings--->Music--->Shuffle turned off. I cant unsync my music since its all in the clouds so how do I fix this?

I saw in one of the other similar posts that a person said to unclick the "sync music" box, sync, disconnect, reconnect, and then re-sync.  I missed the disconnect and reconnect part, so it didn't work, but when I disconnected/reconnected, it worked.  It was as if my phone didn't fully sync previously because it literally had to sync all of my music.  However, now the endless shuffling and greyed out lists are gone.  It works just as it should!  Hope this works for you too!

  • Purchashed songs shuffle through on on ipod without playing.

My purchased songs work fine on my laptop. When I try to play them on my Nano, it shows the titles but then shuffles through all 23 titles wothout playing the songs. All songs I have loaded from my CD's work as usual. This has just starting happing. I reset the Nano, I updated the software. I am out of ideas.

If you have made sure that both the iTunes and iPod software are current and have deauthorized and reauthorized your computer, try this:
    1. Deauthorize the computer.
    2. Create a new user in the system.
    3. Download the free song of the week from the iTMS in the new user account.
    4. Play the song in that user account to authorize again.
    5. Restore the iPod (using the iPod updater) in the new user account.
    6. Sync just the free song of the week and see if it plays on the iPod.
If it does, you appear to have a corrupted iTunes library file, and you should recreate the iTunes library file in your normal user account, and then sync your music back to the iPod and all should be well.

  • When I plug in my ipod shuffle(early model) the songs do not appear on play list. Play list shown is wrong.Any ideas?

When I plug in my ipod shuffle { early model } the play list that appears does not show what is actually on my ipod. Some I had deleted  before and some songs that I have never had on my ipod. appear on the list  I do not knw via the computer what is actually on my ipod. Any suggestions. Why cany itunes leave things alone. If it aint broke dont mend it. This has only happened since I down loaded the latest itunes.

Make sure that your music is in the format supported by the iPhone. I use either MP3 or AAC.
A friend had the same problem a while back. All his music was in the WMA format and is therefore not playable on the iPhone and would not copy. Once he converted his songs to MP3 they copied to his iPhone without problem.

  • Playlist shuffle always plays the same few songs

I got a playlist that has roughly 250 songs. Everytime I connect my Ipod to charge it, then disconnect and start the playlist on shuffle mode, there's always a 20 to 30 songs playing first. If I close my Ipod and start the playlist again (still on it most of the time), it shows 1 of 250 and plays the same songs, but not in the same exact order (though sometimes it does for 2 or 3 songs). Just like if the shuffle was on "low" mode or something. It's still choose randomly some song here and there, but not that much since it the same few, ALL THE TIME for a while. The only way to get around this is to connect my Ipod to my computer again (it reset it somehow) or leave it open all the time so it knows wich song has been played (but that's terribly stupid). Is there any other way to go around that shuffling loop? I found myself skipping most of the time since I always hear the same few songs even though there's some songs in the playlist I've never ever played on the Ipod. Is there a way to set the "priority" (like play the most higher rated song first) or the "intensity" (from low to high) of the shuffle?
Got the last 7th gen. Ipod Nano.

On the iPod's Now Playing screen, there is a Shuffle button.  The symbol looks like two arrows crossing.  Is that set to ON?
I ask this because shuffing a playlist should NOT always put the same 20-30 songs at the top of the list. Shuffle means a randomly ordered list is created and played.  If the original playlist is in a somewhat random playlist order to begin with, playing it in play-in-order mode may seem like it is shuffling, even though the iPod is playing the list in playlist order.  And the same songs would be at the top of the list every time, because the iPod not shuffling the list.
Sorry if that's too basic, but I need to ask the obvious question first, and that question is, IS is the iPod actually set to shuffle songs?
