Playlist sizes

The playlist I want to burn into an audio CD -- just a simple collection of "I Love You" songs for my boyfriend -- has turned into a nightmare.
I'm looking at the playlist right now, "30 songs, 2.2 hours, 196.4 MB" The blank CD has 700 MB. But despite this, everytime I try to burn the disk, iTunes sends me a message that my playlist is too large and will not fit on 1 cd.
What's wrong??
(Not only is my iPod not work, but now I can't CDs?? I'm so close to kicking this stuff to the curb.)
Gateway   Windows XP

Donna, are you trying to burn as an audio CD? If you are that may be the problem, because 30 songs in an audio CD format, I'm betting is too big for one CD. The only way this will fit on one CD is as a data CD which won't work if you want to play it in regular stereo equipment.

    How can I display total playlist size in iTunes 11.  It used to be visible for each playlist or CD, but I can't find it now.

    The Friend: Thanks from me too for that super simple fix!! I feel kinda stupid for not knowing that.
    Too bad Apple didn't:
    Give it a more intuitive name than "Status Bar"... "status" is what is shown at the top of the window along with the Artist and Song Title, e.g.; how far into the song/podcast/video I've played and how much is left,
    Put the keyboard commands in a more prominent place in their release notes when version 11 came out so we could more easily find the information they decided to hide in this attempt to make the desktop less cluttered and
    Allow us the option of displaying the data size along with the song count and duration just beneath the playllist title. The status bar is a redundant listing of information except for the data size!  Poorly conceived!
    Perhaps Apple will remedy this in a future release. For those of us who like to burn our playlists to CD, DVD and even a thumb drive this information is essential. WIthout it, we're left to guess whether a given playlist will fit on our target device.
    Thank you!

  • Is there an issue with iOS 5 & playlist size?

    I like to just have a large playlist & hit shuffle.  With iOS 4 I had no trouble at all with playlists over 20gb.  It was open the playlist, hit shuffle & enjoy!  Since the "upgrade" to iOS 5 I have noticed playlists that are 10gb load SLOW.  The 20gb playlists tend to work for a minute, but if I stop it & try to reopen at any point the music player goes to a white screen & appears to time out.  I have to remove the playlist to even open the music player!  Small playlists (20 songs or so) open & shuffle no problem, just like the 20gb+ playlists once did.  I had hoped the 5.0.1 update would have fixed it.  Nope... I miss iOS 4.

    Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tends to indicate a problem with your network.
    Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
    Did the iOS device connect before?
    Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
    Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
    .- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • How do I view library or playlist size

    I used to get a running memory total at the bottom of the itunes window, how do I get it back?

  • Dual library question (iTunes gets the library size and bitrate wrong)

    I have two libraries, one ripped in Lossless, and the other in AAC at 256 kbps. I use one for streaming, and the other for syncing to our iPods. I just switched from the Lossless library to the AAC library (kept on separate drives). iTunes now sees the AAC files, but incorrectly lists all the bitrates as their higher Lossless numbers. However, when I click on an individual song to play it, the bitrate appropriately is recognized as 256 kbps. When I do this, the total library size (listed at the bottom) also incrementally "shrinks."
    The problem is that I just purchased a new 80 GB iPod capable of holding the entire library (nearly 8000 songs@25 kbps, ~60 GB total size). Unfortunately, iTunes still thinks the library is much larger (using the incorrect lossless bitrates to calculate file size). This results in it telling me (erroneously) that the library is too large to sync.
    Is there an easy way to get iTunes to realize the new file sizes? I could obviously double-click on each and every song in the library until iTunes "gets" the real size, but I assume there's a better way. I also assume that this will be an issue every time I switch between the two libraries.
    Help, anyone? Thanks in advance.

    iMac G5, Mini, PB G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Thanks for the tip, but this didn't work, unfortunately. Following your lead a bit further, I even created a new playlist and dragged the whole library there, but the wrong bitrates (and thus, playlist size) still appeared.
    One more curious update regarding this situation. iTunes automatically populated my iPod with what it believed was a subset of my tunes that would fit on the iPod. The real size of this subset was ~20GB, but iTunes thought (using the Lossless size) that it was nearly 60 GB. In categorizing the contents of my iPod, it listed ~60GB of songs, ~1 MB of photos, 1 GB of video and still listed the space available as ~50 GB (for a grand total of ~112 GB of space on my 80 GB iPod). Clearly, iTunes used the calculated size to estimate the music content, but used the actual space remaining based on a query of the iPod drive. Strange, huh?
    I'm still looking for advice--any other suggestions would be welcome.

  • Can't burn Cds anymore!msg:"songs on playlist will not fit on one audio cd"

    I recently updated my itunes library to 8--I believe--and since I haven't been able to burn any audio cds. All the settings are set correctly, the playlist size should fit on one cd, but it keeps telling me it won't fit on one cd. the cds are blank, I'm using memorex and have tried several different cds. Ugh. Techonology is the bain of my existence. . .thanks for the help!

    Have you tried burning at 8x speed? Slower but that is what fixed burning issue for me.

  • Playlist stops after every few songs

    I have a playlist that stops playing after playing through four items in the list. I can start it anywhere in the list and sure enough, after playing four selections it stops. Here are some facts about the problem:
    - I have all the check-boxes checked.
    - Playlist length: 600 entries
    - Type: mp3 encoded snippets of Chinese language phrases.
    - File size: ranges from 12KB-18KB per mp3 (<= 1 second)
    - When it stops the progress bar is about at about 2/3, with the left side showing either 0:00 or 0:01 and the right side showing either -0:00 or -0:01 and the pause button is still showing (as though the selection was still playing)
    - It will start playing again if I hit the pause button twice (once to toggle it to pause and then to go back to play)
    - All the files play fine individually
    - Reducing the playlist size doesn't help
    - Moving the files to a new play list doesn't help
    - Deleting and re-adding the files doesn't help
    The playlist plays all the way through on my iPod without stopping but maybe every 100 entries or so it will play the next 4-8 without any sound and then continue as normal.
    I have over 8000 other mp3 language snippets just like these in other playlists but the files are bigger(from 20KB-60KB)and they play through the whole list just fine. If I put files from the offending list into one of the other lists the other list will often stop playing just after that song. I'm curious whether iTunes has a problem handling really small files because this problem was happening in all my playlists of this type until I sorted them into lists of different file sizes. Now only the list with the smallest files (<20KB) has the problem.
    Can anyone help?

  • Unable to drag and drop playlist to iPod

    I have a 30 GB iPod Classic which I manage via iTunes on Windows 7.  I manually manage which songs, playlists, etc, are synced to the iPod, since my music collection is somewhat bigger than 30 GB.
    I recently made a new playlist on iTunes with a lot of songs (about 2,700) and attempted to drag and drop the playlist onto my iPod.  Sadly, iTunes won't allow me to do so, and does not offer any diagnostic or error messages to tell me what the problem is.  Just the preceding day I was able to drag-and-drop a playlist with about half as many songs onto the iPod.  All or almost all of the songs on the new playlist are already on the iPod, and there is 3 GB of space free on the iPod.
    Any idea what the problem is?  Is there a limit to max playlist size?
    Thanks in advance,
    -PT

    OK, it's actually a latency problem:  when you drag and drop a REALLY LONG playlist to an iPod, it doesn't immediately figure out what you are trying to do (or else it's polling the music list on the iPod and comparing it to the playlist, I don't know).  So you have to drag the playlist and hold it over the iPod icon in iTunes until the iPod icon opens up, then drop it.

  • Library has increased its gb size

    Having just updated to the latest version of i tunes my library in itunes has grown from 12 gb to 75 gb with no extra tracks being added. My ipod still updates and keeps the library at 12 gb. does anyone know what has happened i did consolidate my library after the update thats whe the probs began.

    Update: iTunes readjusted my files, and they are back to original size! Just as spontaneously as they grew, they shrank back again.
    All I did was check all the songs in the library and deleted a couple of dozen duplicates and a couple of songs that were listed but not available (maybe the data was corrupted for those files). After deleting the "corrupted" songs, the playlist size went back to normal (from 2.4 gb to 788 mg).
    I hope this information helps someone.

  • Does anyone know how to view the amount of songs you have and how much data it takes up in the new iTunes?

    i have downloaded the new itunes on to my computer, but cant find where it says how many songs you have and how much data they will take up on my phone. thanks

    Just a comment that the playlist size only shows in List View (not Grid or Artist view).

    For some peculiar reason this option does not show up for me (11.0.1).  I do see the "status bar" (i.e. size) of playlists at the bottom of each, and I know that I've seen this setting, but this View option seems to have vanished!

  • Need help finding the sum of an array list

    I'm making a mock up of iTunes, I suppose, for class. My only issue is that I can't figure out how to add all the durations of each sound file when it's stated in the array.
    I've put the part I'm having trouble with in bold, it is located in the Jpod class. We're using a program called BlueJ for coding, which is why the commenting is slightly odd.

    not sure if I'm missing something here, but this could possibly be solved by initializing a variable to 0 before the for loop, and then adding each duration to this variable as you loop. This seems too trivial a solution though. Again, I may be missing something here.
    something simple like:
    public void calcSum()
        int i = 0;
        for(Fubar foo: fooList) {
            i += foo.getLength();
        System.out.println("Sum = " + i);

  • Whats the check box good for?

    Greetings!
    I'm on a Monday roll. I got bit by a context menu so far so now lets try the check box.
    I've always been under the impression that the check box was an include/exclude thing its either on or off.
    Instance I was trying to burn a cd from a playlist and it went over. So I would un-check boxes for items in the list and try to re-burn the cd. Even after clearly it telling me I had less time and space itunes was still trying to burn the 'unchecked' items.
    So .... what are the check boxes good for?? I'm sure I'm going to feel really dumb when the answer is presented.
    Thanks for your time .. on a ridiculous question!
    Dave

    *I guess I haven't put enough thought into creating a playlist to contain every song I would like to play at a given time.*
    By checking/unchecking songs, you alreay are doing it, except instead of having them in a neat, tidy playlist or two, you have the whole library to go thru.
    Here's how I do it.
    It's very simple to get new music and my favorites onto the iPod, once set it up.
    I have a few playlist I sync.
    One is a regular playlist (iPod Music) with all the music I always want on my iPod.
    I also create a smart playlist.
    The criteria are.
    Match all rules;
    Playlist is not iPod music (this keeps from selecting songs I already have)
    My rating is not 1 star (keeps off stuff I rate one star)
    Have not heard in last two weeks (rotates older music)
    Limit selection to 2GB by Random (the size is set to the iPod total size minus iPod music playlist size).
    Then I select the iPod, click the Music tab.
    Tick Sync music and choose Selected playlists in the drop down.
    Tick the two playlists above.
    I add/delete from the iPod Music playlist to always sync this music.
    Once a week or so, depending on how much I have listened to the iPod, select the smart playlist.
    Select all the songs and press Delete. Since it's a smart playlist, it will automatically fill up again with new music based on the criteria.
    Then I sync the iPod.
    (I really gotta start a blog with this info in it since I type it a bunch...)

  • Strange thing happens when smplayer use xv-intel video overlay

    i started to notice some strange thing happens when i turn on the desktop composting effect on kde,smplayer's video  show blue colors,and smplayer menu has a thick blue line surrounding it.
    whatever other windows i dragged over the smplayer show the same effect,which is very annoying. i figured it's something with the video output.
    the default video output is xv-intel video overlay,so i changed it to xv,gl,etc,and things become normal,xv-intel textured video works fine,too.
    of course if i turn off the compositing effect,everything will be ok.
    so it's because there are conflicts between the desktop effects and the xv-intel video overlay output?

  • HT2729 How do i get a previous version of itunes?

    version 11.1 (i think, no way of knowing). does not allow adding of a folder, also does not display size of a playlist! How can I create a playlist for a 700Mb CD if I cannot see the size??
    How do I install an older version?

    Use CTRL+B to turn on the display of the menu bar. On there, is Help/About iTunes, which will confirm the version number. It will also have File/Add Folder to Library on it.
    Playlists sizes can be seen by using CTRL+/ to turn on the display at the bottom of the window, as before.
    No need to install an older version.
