Playlist song order correct in iTunes, incorrect on device.

The playlist is smart.  The song order is correct in iTunes and shows the correct order on the device if you look at the contents through iTunes.  However, when looking at the playlist on the device itself the songs are out of order.

Well, while the playlist in iTunes and the playlist on the iPhone, as it appears in iTunes, match, the problem is that the iPhone seems to be stripping the instruction to order the songs randomly.  That instruction is given in the 'limit to 30 GB selected by random' line.  The list on the iPhone is in order from least recently played to most recently played.  The highlighted column in the playlist is the leftmost 'number' column not the Last Played column.  Any clues hiding out there?

  • Playlist song order doesn't list correctly in iPod, only in iTunes

I have a "Most Played" Smart Playlist that always shows in my iPod in the order that they are most played. Recently I bought two CDs that I imported into iTunes and put into my iPod and have been listening to it non stop ever since. Because of this I have a lot of new songs that rank very high in playcount. When my iPod is hooked up to my computer, iTunes shows the Most Played playlist with the new songs in the right order within the playlist, but when I disconnect the iPod and look in that playlist, the new songs with the high play counts appear all together at the end of the list! This drives me crazy, as I'm kind of a nut when it comes to play counts lol, but I don't know how to fix it. I haven't done anything different with regards to my iPod preferences and controls and don't understand why the song order is not as it appears in iTunes. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

  • Issue with exported playlist song order

I exported a playlist (with the playlist sorted on the manually arranged order, far left column) as a .xml file using iTunes 7.0.2. When a friend imports this playlist into his iTunes (7.0.1) the song order is incorrect (again with sorting done on the far left column). When I look at the exported XML file with a text editor the order of the song entries is also wrong in the XML file. Has anyone elsed noticed this problem?

Actually, I looked more closely in the text editor and the playlist order looks correct so there appears to be an issue with 7.0.1 (I guess).

  • Playlists not syncing correctly from iTunes to iPhone4

iTunes is not syncing my playlists consistently. As it is difficult to describe exactly what is going wrong, I'll also list the things that I did to test the issue. I am currently using itunes v10.6.3.25 on Win7 64-bit and iOS v5.1.1 and iTunes Match is not enabled. When I plug my iPhone into my PC to sync, everything appear to go normally, I am not getting any errors. When I look at the contents of my iPhone in iTunes (under the Devices category), it appears to match my iTunes content. However, when I use the Music app on my phone, the playlists/song have not been synced. Here are my attempts to figure out what's going on:
    TEST: deleted playlists on iphone
RESULT: playlist deleted on itunes after syncing
    TEST: deleted playlists in itunes
    RESULT: playlist deleted from iphone
TEST: changed name of playlist in itunes
RESULT: removed *some* songs from playlist on iphone (but not in itunes)
TEST: added songs back to iphone playlist
RESULT: after syncing, songs added were removed from both itunes and iphone playlist
TEST: added songs back to iTunes playlist
RESULT: did not sync songs to iPhone playlist
TEST: added music to iTunes library
RESULT: music successfully synced to iPhone
TEST: added music to a smart playlist
RESULT: smart playlist synced to iPhone successfully
    TEST: uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes
    RESULT: issue persists
    TEST: rebooted iPhone
    RESULT: issue persists

I have just started to have trouble playing my playlists on the iPhone. It started to shuffle them and when I turned shuffle off, it would only play one song over and over again.  You have to open the iPod and manually advance to the next song.  That is obviously unsatifactory.  I downloaded the update on the iTunes software today.  That did not correct the problem.  I also restored the settings on the phone.  It wtill will not play a playlist in the order I have it.  There is some problem here.  I would also be happy to hear a reply on this issue.

  • Song order correction

I have added music to my iTunes 7. However, the only problem I have is that the songs are in reverse order. if a cd has 20 songs, it starts the song order from 20-1, instead of 1 - 20. Is there a way I change the way my songs appear. Now that iTunes has gapless song capability, I would like to take advantage of it.

What header are you referring to. I am looking at my playlist by group album view. ALl the songs are listed backwards. When I go to infor, the songs are listed in the correct order, just not when I am viewing the album.

  • Change Playlist song order

How can I make the songs on a playlist play in numerical order in my iPod shuffle?  They are playing in alphabetical order by song title.

The 4th (and 3rd gen) shuffle can hold multiple playlists like the other "big" iPods.  If you are looking at the main music list for the shuffle in iTunes, that is not a "playlist" (it is the shuffle's music library).  That list cannot be re-ordered like a playlist, just as you cannot re-order songs in your main iTunes music library.
If you load the shuffle manually, buy dragging songs to the shuffle, this is what you need to do.  Select the shuffle in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES.  NOTE:  If the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is not visible, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
Click the small triangle to the left of the shuffle name in the sidebar, to show its content list (indented below the shuffle).  Playlists on the shuffle appear there, on the content list.  If there are no playlists shown there, with the shuffle's name selected, click the plus sign at the bottom of the sidebar to create a new playlist.  A playlist appears on the shuffle's content list, where you can name it.
When loading the shuffle by dragging songs to it, drag the songs to this playlist.  That adds the song to the shuffle and to that particular playlist.  Since this is a playlist, you can select it and re-order the songs as desired.  When you play the shuffle, use VoiceOver to select that playlist (instead of playing from the All Songs list).  The songs will play in playlist order, if the shuffle's power switch is on the play-in-order (middle) position.

  • Playlist Song Order Chan

Searched the Forum at length for the answer but didn't find it. Sorry if I missed it. On my Zen Xtra I can see the Playlist in the right pane (in Organizer), select a song, left click hold, and drag it up or down, and it moves. It also works with arranging song order on the playlists on my PC and Zen Micro (when viewed in right pane). This does NOT work with my Vision M. Am I missing something or is that the way it is? Thanks.

Use the Zen Media Explorer for your player to edit the playlist. Open the player using that application choose edit playlist & change the order there. When done click Ok/Save (can;t remember which one it says ) & that should be all you can also add songs this way. However the playlist must have been created using the Creative software. It will not edit a playlist created with Windows Media Player.

  • Playlist Correct on Itunes, Incorrect on iphone

My playlist im syncing from itunes to my iphone from my macbook show correct on the computer and in the playlist, but are incorrect on the i phone. how?
even the drop-down menu for the iphone show correct, but on the actual phone, its all wrong.
also, some playlist are set up correct but dont work correct. example: 4 star playlist is set to 25 songs that are rated 4 stars, but some songs with no stars are in there
    any solutions? thanks!

    Welcome to the forums.
For smart playlists on the iPhone be sure to add "And type is music". Also, you will have better results if the playlist you create is referenced by another playlist and this second one is the one you sync to your phone.
For example, create a playlist called "4 Star playlist", make sure it has "Type is music" in it, and then make another playlist called "iPhone 4Star Playlist" and the second playlist only says "And Playlist is 4 Star Playlist" and sync this second one to your iPhone.

  • Smart playlists: song order not correct, mainly with "feat." artists

When creating smart playlists--usually for albums that have guest artists--the track order gets thrown out of whack, and I don't understand why. For example, just bought Santigold's most recent album, of which one has "feat. Karen O" in the "Artist" category. That's the first track on the album, but gets dropped to the last on the playlist. Any thoughts on how to fix this? It is incredibly frustrating.

Set a common Album Artist. Sort the resulting playlist as Album by (Album) Artist.

  • Smart Playlist Song Order Problem on iPod Nano 6th G

recently i got an iPod Nano 6th G after years of using my iPod Classic 5.5G, and so far it has been a bliss actually if it wasnt for one small thing
i have a somewhat large collection of music that i have - with a few exceptions - put in one big smart playlist with the rules provided in the pic to fit my needs
on my old iPod Classic when i sync it i find it in the ipod in the same ordered that shows on my iTunes, but with my iPod Nano that is no longer the case.... even the the same playlist in my iPod have the songs in the exact order as it is in my library on iTunes, once i unblug it the play list on iPod becomes arranged alphabetically by artist and obviousely that is my problem
so if anyone could guid me to correct it or even the cause of it i'ld be very thankful

Can someone point me to a forum somewhere where I can get help with this? I'm obviously posting to the wrong place. Thanks!

+If you use "create a playlist from selection", you can't reorder the songs by dragging and dropping.+
Yes, you can reorder songs if the correct column is highlighted.
It has a blank header, only a little arrow that points up or down.
If you can't drag them into a different order, then you are sorting that list by some other column. What column header is shaded light blue?
The one that has a blank header, the one iwth the song numbers in it.
You might have to scroll to the right to see it, depending on how many columns you are displaying..
I doubt it... this column, like the name column, cannot be moved or removed.
I just tested this with a playlist created from a selection.
And I just tested it again likewise and can reproduce the same bug at will (iTunes 9.0.2 (25)).

  • Music playlist track order... iTunes vs ATV 2nd Gen

Streaming music from my iTunes Library to new 2nd Gen AppleTV: When I attempt to listen to a music playlist from my iTunes library through AppleTV, the track order within the ATV playlist does not match that of the playlist in my iTunes library. The songs within the ATV playlists are always sorted alphabeticaly by song title and do not match the sorting of playlists in my iTunes library.
I contacted an Express Lane advisor about this, case number 186510612, and was politely advised that there's apparently no solution. The advisor recommended that I submit feedback (which I did).
Track order on a music playlist is very important for several reasons. Any suggestions?

I couldn't agree more. I, too, have been an Apple/Mac user from the beginning. This seemed like such an elementary issue that I was convinced I was missing something simple. Evidently not, based on your experience and the response I got from tech support. I encourage you to report this issue in "feedback" http://www.apple.com/feedback/ and maybe Apple will fix it in a software update.
For now, ATV is almost unusuable for streaming live album playlists with "intro" tracks. Moreover, studio album track order on ATV does not correspond with that intended by the album producer which, in itself, denegrates the artistic experience.

  • Purchased Playlist Song Order When Purchasing New Songs

I recently transferred my music (including my purchased playlist) to my new computer. Everything runs fine, but I cannot figure out how to change the preferences on my purchased playlist. Previously, when I downloaded songs via the iTunes Store, they showed up at the top of the playlist (#1). However, now, they show up as the very last song in the playlist, which I dont like. I want to see the newest purchases at the top of the playlist. I've tried clicking the arrow above the numbers, to reverse the order, which works, but then when I purchase another song, it still puts it at the bottom of the list. How do I change it so that the most recent purchases show at the top of the list?

Sort by *Date Added* and click the triangle so it's pointing down.
