Playlist sync problems

hey,
so i created a smart playlist that contains my 25 most recently added songs.
different to recently added because recently added has no limit on number of songs and only keeps songs in there ofr two weeks.
this playlist has worked fien until now.
it is not syncing across to my ipod properly, with some songs meant to be there and others from a much older version of the playlsit, as songs are constantly being swapped out when they are not in the newest 25 songs in my library.
i tried making another smart playlist exactly like it, didnt work. i changed the recently added playlist and the same problem arose.

I have the same problems, none of the songs listed on my iPod are even the same as the top 100. I also had the problem of my iPod cutting out in the middle of songs and returning to the same menu and every new iPod I got the same thing happened, I am on my third iPod Touch now. Has that ever happened to anyone elses? Ironically enough, every single one of them has had the same playlist problems. I tried reinstalling itunes and restoring the iPod afterwards but no dice. I think I may reformat to try and see if that works, unless anyone else has any suggestions.

  • Automatic (intelligent) Playlist Sync Problems

    Hi,
I am using iPhone 4S running on iOS 8.2 and Itunes for Windows 12.1.1.4 and I have got problem with a special playlist.
I have defined a playlist like this:
Track, which have not been played for more than 2 year
    and
have got rating for more than 3 stars and genre is not like pop.
The playlist is working on itunes fine and selects files according to definition. If I play a song on iTunes this sone will be removed from this list on iTunes. This works perfect.
iTunes even syncs this ist to my iPhone without any mistake.
When I play one song on my iPhone from this list the playlist recognizes that I have played this song and is reducing the amount of songs after playing each song. At least I have heard all songs and now my problem is starting.
iTunes does not recognize that I have played these songs on my iPhone and does not update the playlist at iTunes for the on the iPhone played songs.
It seems that there is a sync problem from iOS 8.2 to iTunes 12.1.1.4
Does anybody have got any idea how to fix this problem?
    Any help would be appriciated.
    CU
    Christian

You can make a playlist of your own and set the option yourself. Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -My iPod for example (the dash will position it at the top of the playlists in Sources). You can make it a smart playlist that picks the songs for you or just a normal one and drag whatever content you want to have into the playlist. If you are making a smart playlist limit it to just less than the size of your iPod. Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod:

    Syncing Music to iPod
To make a random playlist go to File>New Smart Playlist.
    Uncheck "Match the following rule"
Check "Limit to" put the size of the playlist you want to sync in the number box, choose "MB" or "GB" from the first list box, choose "Random" from the next list box. Check "Live Updating"
When you want to change the selection in the smart playlist just delete everything in it and it will add a new selection. When you want to change the normal playlist just delete out what you don't want and drag in a new selection.

  • Itunes playlist syncing problems

Hello to everyone at the forum.
I have a Blackberry 8900 with a 32GB micro sd card linked up to a HP laptop with windows 7, used mainly for music. I have playlists created on Itunes and I use blackberry media sync to transfer said playlists. Out of the 2000 tracks on both playlists roughly 1300 are being synced to the device. The other 700 tracks do not appear under the "song" category however they do appear in the playlist in a red background with the song information from the file as it is stored on windows unlike the way the information is presented on itunes.
The majority of the unsynced tracks are in mp3 format therefore format problems are unlikely. Also one particular album can contain both synced and unsynced tracks.
    Your help is greatly appreciated,

Then my theory about match taking over is correct and unless you disable it you will not get your playlists back.
iTunes will automatically begin scanning your computer's library for matches.
A status indicator will allow you to track progress. You may also manually pause and resume the process at anytime by clicking the Stop or Start button.
Once iTunes has completed matching and uploading your iTunes library, your music in iCloud will be integrated into your local music library. A download button will appear to the right of content that you have in iCloud that doesn't already exist on your computer.

  • I fixed my recently added playlist syncing problem

Ever since the iOS 7 upgrade on my iPhone 5, my recently added playlist would not sync properly.  It would be accurate in iTunes (latest version) but not on my iPhone.  After trying some of the suggestions I found on this forum without luck, I started messing around with it myself.  The way I got it to work was to first power down everything.  After a reboot, I launched the music app on my phone.  I selected the artist catagory and played a song completely until the album was completed (you could fast forward the song till the end).  I left the app on the artist page and closed it in the background (double tap home button, swiped app).  I then launched iTunes and connected the phone with a USB cable.  After syncing, I went into my recently added playlist on the phone and it was up to date!
It seems that in my case if I left the app in the playlists screen, it wouldn't sync.  The app remembers the last screen you had open since the last close, so it automatically reopens in that screen.  I hope this helps anyone having the same problem.  Good luck!

    Hi,
It's just a Smart Playlist, so make a new Smart Playlist called "Recently Added". Set the rule to "Date Added is in the last two weeks" and make sure both "Match the following rule" and "Live updating" are checked. That's the same as the default "Recently Added" playlist...

  • Playlist syncing problems

I'm using a new to me Gen4 iPod Touch, and am used to the classic and original nano. When I sync my music , audiobook, and podcast playlists, the files sync just fine, and the playlist names do, but for my podcast playlists, they are either out of the order that they are in from iTunes (chronological) or the playlist is blank, although the podcasts that are supposed to populate it are on the iPod and synced between the iPod and iTunes. The music and audiobook playlists are in the correct order, it is just the podcasts that are out of sorts. Can anyone help please? I have them set up as unplayed playlists that autoupdate so I'd rather not have to go through the time and trouble of creating manual playlists when a smart playlist does the job just fine...at least on iTunes. TIA!

1- If you autosync, any changes you make in your library should be reflected on your iPhone on its next autosync, and without creating a 2nd playlist (e.g. "favorites 1").
2- If you autosync, any changes you make to a playlist from your phone will be over-written next time you autosync.  If you want to be able to edit a playlist on your iPhone, start by creating a new (blank) playlist, then select the playlist you want to change so it is added to this new playlist, then make whatever changes you want.  When you re-sync to iTunes you'll have to delete the original playlist and keep the new one.
Now, perhaps wi-fi autosync behaves differently, but a wired autosync should behave as above.

  • Smart playlists sync problems

I have a 1st gen ipod touch, I've created 7 smart playlist for videos. my itouch only syncs 5 of them, does anybody know a solution?

When you create a Smart Playlist, the option Match only ticked items is turned off, so anything without a tick will be added to the Playlist.
But, if your Sync option is set to Tick only ticked songs and videos, then although unticked items are in the Playlist in iTunes, they will not transfer to your iPod. Check the Playlist in iTunes, are the videos missing from the iPod un-ticked (the check-box to the left of the title)?
If so, turn the tick on and then Sync the iPod to iTunes.

  • Playlist Syncing Problem

Ok so I recently reinstalled OS X but I still have all the same music except now I have upgraded to have iTunes 10. Since I had my phone synced to my old library I had to restore it, yet I cannot find a way to get my Playlists on to my iPhone 4 with having to manually go to the music tab and pressing selected playlists. This is quite annoying and I've tried simply dragging them from the playlists section to the iPhone above just it still sits idly. My setting is to include all music without videos and before with this selected I had all my playlists. Now they're unsynced and sitting in iTunes waiting to be played. Anybody have advice?

  • 2014 Sync problems on iPod classic / Please help!! 2014

    Hello community!
I really need some help with this problem I am having... I have done some research for the past few days on my own but nothing I have found has helped.
First some specs on my device...
iPod Classic: 80 GB (I believe this is iPod with video, assumed on the fact that it supports movie syncs)
iPod software version: 1.1.2 (up to date according to iTunes)
    Formatted for Windows
Syncing to Dell Inspiron with Windows 7
iTunes updated to current version (11.4)
I had much mof my music library uploaded onto my iPod for quite sometime. (close to 14,000 songs synced at 192 kbps) I often like to put my iPod on shuffle and just listen to whatever comes on, but here and there I will skip songs until something I am in the mood for comes on... I began to notice that my iPod was freezing (ON THE DISPLAY ONLY!!! Playback through speakers continued) when I would skip through songs... Once the screen dimmed however, I could once again skip to the next song. I figured this was a problem concerning corrupted files or something similar. These are the steps I took..
1.) Updated iTunes to version 11.4 and checked for further updates
2.) ATTEMPTED to check disk within Windows (was unsuccessful and heard the iPod making a lot of 'clicking' noises from within the casing)
3.) Performed an iPod restore within iTunes
4.) Performed a check disk within Windows and recovered any bad sectors (SUCCESSFUL)
5.) Selected 'Music' sync and the option for 'Entire music library'
    6.) UNCHECKED 'Include music videos'
7.) Reconfigured settings as they were before and made slight changes..
a.) Checked 'Open iTunes when this iPod is connected'
b.) Checked 'Sync only checked songs and videos'
c.) Checked 'Convert higher bit rate songs to '192 kbps' AAC'
d.) Unchecked 'Manually manage music and videos'
         e.) Unchecked 'Enable disk use'
8.) Began a sync on my iPod... With well over 10,000 songs I knew this was going to be a lengthy process.. I left computer unattended..
When I returned to my computer, iTunes was unresponsive... The only way I could get iTunes to show was to minimize a Window on top of iTunes. iTunes states 'Syncing iPod... Do not disconnect' but does not show a rolling progress bar.. I cannot cancel sync, I cannot eject iPod, I cannot close iTunes...
I attempt to eject iPod device through windows, UNSUCCESSFUL (Cannot unmount generic volume while the device is in use)
I 'Ctrl+Alt+Dlt' to Task Manager and End Program 'iTunes' UNSUCCESSFUL..
I End Process 'iTunes.exe *32' and eject iPod through Windows SUCCESSFUL
When the iPod displayed 'OK to disconnect with load bar, I disconnected the device.
As soon as this bar was full iPod IMMEDIATELY rebooted completely and powered back up with only 20 songs synced. (Frustration ensues)
Confused and thinking maybe my screen saver caused an interruption during the sync, I changed screen saver and power saving options to eliminate any possible interruption, REPEATED STEPS 3-8 ABOVE, and started sync again.. Left computer unattended
Again, coming back to computer much later, iTunes was in the same unresponsive state. Closed iTunes and began looking for answers on the internet. Any and all answers I found stated I should restore iPod, update iTunes, run diagnostics tests, etc., etc...
All of which I had done EXCEPT for running a diagnostics test..
Running a diagnostics test: I ran only the tests concerned with 'Device Connectivity' and 'Device sync' tests.. Here are the very interesting results I yielded from these tests...
    Device Connectivity Test:
    Support services:
'iPod support service is running.' Status: GREEN
'iTunes Helper is running.' Status: GREEN
'Apple Mobile Device is running.' Status: GREEN
    Ports:
         'USB ports verified.' Status: GREEN
'No FireWire (IEEE 1394) ports found.' Status: GREEN
         'iPod found.' Status GREEN
    ALL TESTS PASSED
    Device Sync Tests
    Results:
No iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad found. Status: RED
    ONE OR MORE TESTS FAILED
I am at a loss, I realize that Apple has discontinued the iPod Classic but does that mean iTunes will no longer support these devices!?
And if ANYONE has ANY suggestions for possible steps I can take to regain syncing privileges to my iPod once again, please let me know!
Also, I have diagnostics test results saved on my desktop and available to post if required!
Thank you for any and all help!
    -Chris

    !UPDATE!
I made several adjustments to my sync options and made some progress and am now trying to sync in 'stages' as I like to think of them.
    Here is what I did:
1.) Under 'Music' tab in 'My iPod' options I opted to sync 'Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres'
2.) Selected a small portion of tunes I know I want on my iPod (ended up being close to 3,500 songs.
3.) Under 'Summary' tab I unchecked the 'Sync only checked songs and videos' box
4.) Unchecked 'Convert higher bit rate songs to ___ AAC'
    5.) Checked 'Enable disk use'
    6.) Ran a SUCCESSFUL sync!
I am now running a sync keeping the same adjustments in place and have added 6,556 songs. (SYNC IN PROGRESS)
I am wondering if trying to convert that many songs to a lower bit rate is causing sync problems and it appears as if I am at least making progress on this. HOWEVER, I really prefer to decrease the bit rate on my songs so I may fit more on my iPod... Usually most of the files I have in iTunes are at 320 kbps with a select few at 192 kbps. I would like to make everything the way it was before my first iPod restore.. 192 kbps, but this also seems to be the cause of the sync problems I am having? Anyone else have a comment on this?
    Thanks again
    -Chris

  • Sync problems with new 4.3 update

I have just updated my iPhone 3gs and now I have sync problems with itunes.  Eveytime I try and sync my playlist or any music to the iPhone it end up with a spinning beach ball after a couple of tracks.
Has anyone else had this problem?
I have reset my iPhone a few times now since the update but it doesn't resolve the matter.

  • Syncing Problem!! Please Help!

I have a 5th Generation iPod 30 GB. I also have an Iphone 3G and I sync both my iPod and Iphone with my iTunes. I made a playlist called "iphone" so I can sync only songs I want for my Iphone.
The problem I have is that I don't know how to sync my iPod without that playlist. It seems like if I don't have "Sync all songs and playlists" checked, NO SONGS get synced. And I have over 4000 songs in my iTunes library. On the main window "Sync all checked songs" is checked.
So my question is, how can I sync my entire iTunes library and "Recently Added" playlist ONLY to my iPod. I don't want my iphone or anything else syncing into my ipod. Thanks for anyone that helps!!

iTunes does not provide a way to sync everything "except" something, although that would be a nice feature. Rather than picking which playlists you want, you could instead have an exception list where you pick the ones you don't want.
Anyway, since you are syncing your whole library to the iPod anyway, you are getting everything in all your playlists to begin with. So having those playlists sync over as well do not add anything additional to your iPod other than the lists themselves. So my fiurst suggestion is to simply ignore the other playlists on your iPod.
My second suggestion is if your issue with the playlists syncing over is that it makes scrolling down and finding your "Recently Added" playlist take a bit longer (or more difficult to do while driving, for example) then second suggestion is to rename the "Recently Added" playlist so that it always shows at the top of the playlist list. Add a space at the beginning of the name or call it "aaa Recently Added" or something like that.
Third choice is to simply make a Smart Playlist that has a rule that all the tracks will follow. For example, a rule where the year IS NOT 1000 would create a playlist that includes every song in your library that wasn't released in the year 1000, which should be everything. Now set up your iPod to sync only two specific playlists, the "Not 1000" playlist and the "Recently Added" playlist. Now your iPod will have your entire library but only two playlists in the playlist menu.
    Cheers,
    Patrick

  • Some unchecked smart playlists syncing

    Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated!
My iTunes is set to sync only selected playlists with my iPhone. While all of my checked playlists sync, so do some of the unchecked playlists as well. The only unchecked playlists that sync are smart playlists. Also, not all of the contents of the unchecked playlists sync. For example, one smart playlist has over 1,000 tracks on iTunes but that playlist on the iPhone only contains 11 tracks.
I thought perhaps if a track was contained in a checked playlist and present in an unchecked playlist, iTunes was forcing the appearance of the other playlists on the iPhone. While I still think there's a connection, spot checks show tracks which exist in checked playlists appear in other unchecked playlists which are not present on iPhone.
Running iTunes 8.0.2 on the Mac, 1st gen iPhone version 2.2 (5G77)

i've been having the same problem with my iphone/itunes. i erased what i had and re-loaded, tried manual sync, etc. to no avail.
    here's something i noticed:
i have a smart playlist called "jazz". it's unchecked for iphone syncing purposes. however, i have a "coltrane" smart list that IS checked. for whatever reason, the unchecked jazz list is prompted to show up on my phone, but only with songs that appear on other, checked playlists. so the miles davis songs that belong under the jazz list don't appear on my phone, because they're not synced up on another playlist. it doesn't appear like the songs themselves are being doubled; just the playlist(s) they're on.
but still...doesn't make sense the way it looks.

  • Video Sync Problems in iTunes 11.1/ios 7

I have recently upgraded to ios 7 for my iPad and iPhone, and iTunes 11.1.  I added two new videos to iTunes (.m4v format) and now when I try to sync with my iPad it seems to hang forever on "Waiting for changes to be applied" and then gives me an error message that the videos are not of a format that can be played on the iPad.  This is odd since I already have .m4v videos on my iPad that play just fine.  Moreover, I deselected some videos and they do not delete from my iPad as well.  Is anyone else encountering this?  I have seen some posting regarding music files and playlists not syncing, but nothing about movie files.

I've had video syncing problems (not with music though) when I updated my iPhone 4s to the new IOS 7, but I finally figured it out. What I did was I plugged my 4s in to my computer (Windows 7, 64-bit), then opened iTune (11.1.3.8), clicked on my iPhone tab on the upper right, under "Summary" put a 'check' in the Manually sync music & videos.
Looking at the picture above, notice the: Movies, Music Videos, and  Home Videos; are now available. Before this method, these three wasn't there. These are all in the original Videos app for the iPhone. I hope this help you guys too.

  • Smart Playlist Synch Problem

Okay, so this might be the dumbest problem ever to a lot of people, but when I synch my iPhone to my music, it synch's the top 25 most played playlist...when I look at it in iTunes it's fine, but when I try to listen to it on my iPhone there are completely different songs on it, I've tried doing the 'copy to play order' function and then syncing it (I used to have to do with with my iPod in order to get the most recent songs on the playlist), and I've tried completely deleting the playlist, syncing it, recreating the playlist and syncing it again...and still it doesn't work...
...It doesn't seem like much but it's important to me, if anyone knows what I'm doing wrong please let me know, thank you!

    Welcome to the forums.
You're probably not doing anything wrong -- folks are reporting some issues with smart playlists. Try this -- create another smart list but as the criteria only use "Playlist is" and then select your playlist you are trying to transfer. Transfer only this new one.
Also set "live updating" to off -- shouldn't need to but it's worth a try.

  • Random playlist syncing & iPod starting up unprompted

Since upgrading to iTunes 9 &/or OS3.1 I have found that my playlists sync in a random order. The playlists I want to sync are done however each track within the playlist is in a random order?
Also I have noticed that the iPod will start up without me prompting it to?
I have done a restore but it hasn't fixed the issue.
Is this a bug that anyone else is getting? Any ideas how I resolve them. They are not the worst problems to have but are mildly annoying.

I'm in the same boat! Recently, I found that my recently played playlist isn't in the proper order like before. I've had this problem for about two days now, quite a while after upgrading to 3.01, I have no idea what is wrong. I actually found that 3.01 was making my phone run much smoother and faster, then this happened.
