Playlist to SD flash drive

i just loaded several cd's into my itunes. i would like to export my playlist to an sd flash drive to use in my car stereo. previously i had to fire up my windows media player and convert everything to wma. i would prefer not to go through that process. any help? suggestions?

yes, the plays reads mp3's. the problem is in getting them from itunes to the sd flash drive. my itunes seems to only want to burn a disc or archive. i'm sure i have an option to take a playlist and send it to the sd card...i just can't seem to find it. thanks!

  • How do I move a playlist to a flash drive so it will play in my car?

Said it above.  Created a playlist in iTunes and on my macbook air I'm trying to burn it onto a flashdrive usng the SD slot.  My computer says there's no burn drive or software...

You don't burn to a flash drive/SD card - you can copy.
Drag the tunes you want onto the flash drive/SD card.
Plug it into the port on the car stereo. Make sure that the files you copy are in a format the the car stero will play.

  • How do you put a playlist on a flash drive.

How do put a iTunes playlist on to a flash drive.

If this is a regular commercial music CD, the first step is to get the songs from the CD into your computer's iTunes library.  That is called "ripping."  This article seems to do a good job of describing how to do that step.
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1156861/howto_rip_cds.html
NOTE:  If you don't see the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window), from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  The sidebar is what the article calls the "source list."
Once the CD's songs are in your computer's iTunes library, they are like any others songs you already have.  You can sync them to your iPod in the same way.

  • Can I get all my songs and playlist to a Flash dirve to play in the car now the large iPod is no more?

Hello, so I have read a few discussions on transferring songs/playlist to a flash drive. But what I am looking for is can I replace my iPod classic in my car with a flash drive? So I have all my songs and playlist just like the iPod. And how do I do this?
I have a Ford with My Ford Touch, so it can find its own album art, but I do want the playlists. I have the same song in multiply playlist so I don't want to have multiply copies of the same song one the drive.
It seems that most iPods classics are in use in the car these days so there must be some easy way to replace them with they no longer work.

I doubt that "most iPods classics are in use in the car these days."  iPod classic uses a delicate hard drive for storage (instead of flash storage) plus it has other sensitive parts like the display and battery, so it is prone to damage from shock, heat, cold, etc.  The car environment is not so ideal for iPods (especially the ones with hard drives).  It's ideal for a USB flash drive.  They are now relatively cheap per GB.  They have no moving parts, or screen, or battery, so you can just leave it connected to the USB port most of the time; you don't have to constantly connect and disconnect it, which causes wear for an iPod.  Get something like this, and it barely sticks out from the USB port.

You should be able to copy song files to a USB flash drive using iTunes, by showing a list of songs in iTunes, selecting songs on the list, and dragging the selection from the iTunes window to a Windows Explorer window that shows the USB flash drive.
Depending on the car audio system, it may recognize folders on the USB flash drive as "playlists."  As a test, try putting some folders at the top level of the flash drive, with names to represent playlists.  Then, add a few song files to those folder, and try it on the car audio system.

Insert the flash drive into your computer.  Highlight the tracks in iTunes, and drag them to the flash drive.
If you run iTunes in full screen mode, make it smaller so that you can do the drag.

  • Need help getting playlist into flash drive

Hi friends ... so sorry to bother ... but I need some help ... my iPod Shuffle isn't compatible with my new cars audio system .... so I just bought my first usb flash drive (sandisk 8gig)  ...I inserted the flash drive and it mounted right away on the desktop ...  I just dragged all of the albums I wanted from my iTunes library to the flash drive icon .... I double clicked the flash icon and all the songs and every artist that I dragged into it showed up .... I inserted the flash into my car's usb port- and it played wonderfullyu... until I clicked on the menu and saw that instead of the 900 or so songs I dragged into the flash drive- only about 18 showed up in the audio systems menu ... only about 5 artists instead of the 30 or 40 that I loaded .... the flash drive is 8gig capacity and my entire library is only about 5 gigs .... I emptied all of the mpg's from my flash drive- threw out the trash ... and re-loaded everything again .... once again, when the transfer was finished , everything I dragged into the flash icon was there- every tune played as it shoud when clicked within the desk-mounted flash drive .... but when I inserted again into my cars usb port- once again only a fraction of what was on the flash drive showed up on my screen ...
Please tell me what I'm doing wrong ...The flash drive never appeared in my iTunes window anywhere and under "devices" there was no option highlighted- maybe this is a clue to what I haven't done right?  this was the first time I ever used a usb flash drive..I didn't format or anything else -when the flash icon showed up on my desktop - I just intuitively dragged my playlist into the icon - everything appeared to be in there ... but didn't end up in my car's audio system .... please advise .... please advise as simply as possible .... much thanks in advance ....
    David

    David,
Ther flash drive will not be a recognized Device to iTunes.  It will simply be another drive.  You can add files to it by drag-n-drop, as you correctly did.
Most likely, you have many files in AAC audio format, and your car player is one of the many that can play MP3, but not AAC.
If you need to convert any formats, consult this document:

  • How to preserve the column headings from my playlist when I transfer the list as WAV files to a flash drive?

I have digitized several old vinyls as WAV files and have them in my MacBook Pro in an iTunes playlist. I have arranged the list under the column headings of "Grouping", "Name", "Time", "Artist", "Album" and "Genre". When I copy the files to a flash drive by drag-and-drop, none of the headings except "Name" show up. How to preserve all of the column headings when copying the file to an external device?  Thanks - RC@gnv.

I have the same issue when trying to sync from iTunes 11 on my MacBook to my iPhone 4 iOS6.1. I blindly did the iOS upgrade to 6.1 (more fool me) and since then have not been able to use my phone as an iPod.
I have tried restoreing it, I ve tried restoring it to a new phone but it hasn't worked for me.
The sync starts and the capacity bar in iTunes shows capacity including and music or films etc that are to be included in the sync and then iTunes stops the sync and nothing has been transfered. As with your experience the music is shown in iTunes under Music, under Devices as greyed out with the syncing icon (dotted circle) to the left of it.
When I try to include photos in the sync, I also get an error msg stating the connection to the iPhone has been lost. I am trying to do the sync vis USB, so I dont why I get this error.
I can of course download any music I've bought from Apple from my iCloud to my phone but I want to be able to put any music I want on to it like I could before on iOS5.

  • Back up I-Tunes files to a flash drive

I currently have my I-Tunes Library(3.67 GB)on an old Compac Presario and it will take 6 700mb discs to back it up, to be able to load it onto my new Acer laptop. How can I get I-Tunes to backup the Library to a 4 GB flash drive?

First of all consolidate your library. When you consolidate, any songs in the iTunes Library that are not in the iTunes Music Folder are copied to the Music Folder and the Library is updated to point to those new files. Files already in the iTunes Music Folder have no changes made to them before you transfer iTunes: Copying all your iTunes files to one location - Windows
Attach your USB drive and copy over your iTunes folder. Copying the whole folder brings with it the iTunes Music folder and also the iTunes Library (iTunes Library.itl in Windows) database file which holds all the information about your songs (Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, Last Played, Date Added, etc). You'll get more information including the Folder/File structure in this article: What are the iTunes library files?
When you copy the iTunes folder make sure you put it into the same location on the new computer. This has to be the exact same place, on a Mac this would be in Username/Music/. When you open iTunes on the new computer it will be the same as on the original one Songs, Playlists, Play Counts, Ratings etc. You should also use the same version of iTunes on both computers.
When you copy the iTunes folder make sure you put it into the same location on the new computer. This has to be the exact same place, on a PC this is \Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\. Everything has to be exactly the same on the new computer including the Windows user account name. When you open iTunes on the new computer it will be the same as on the original one Songs, Playlists, Play Counts, Ratings etc. You should also use the same version of iTunes on both computers.
If you have any iTunes purchases in your library don't forget that you'll need to authorise your new computer to play them. Also if you are disposing of the old one remember to deauthorise it so you don't use up one of your allowances: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation

My suggestion to use the smart playlist was more along the lines of making one list with rules to show everything in your library as long as it was kind "mpeg" (= mp3).
Smart playlists cannot be edited manually, only by changing the rules.  You can use them as the basis for another smart playlist though.
There is added overhead to using smart playlists, so don't go overboard.

  • How do I retrieve my music library after a complete computer crash.  I have a backup on a flash drive and I can access my Itunes account but my play lists and music are gone.

How do you retrieve downloaded music and playlists after a complete computer crash.  I can log into my Itunes account and make purchases but my music library is gone.  I have an external backup on a flash drive but for some reason the music does not show up there either. It's like I have a brand new account and have to start all over.  Itunes must have an archive I can access to get my music back, right?

Playlists should be part of your backup copy.
You can redownload some purchases in some countries:
