Playlist Transfer Help

I am trying to place the same playlists from one itunes (mac laptop) to another (imac). I have used the export playlist feature to create an xml document and then used the itunes from the other computer to import playlist. It isn't working that I can tell as the playlist on the older machine haven't updated. Do I need to throw away an old itunes file like when you do the Library transfer? Also, I don't have the exact same music library on each machine and don't want the same library.
Lastly, it is strange that the "export playlist" language is singular, not plural as in "import playlist(s)". This isn't a process that has to be repeated for each playlist?
TIA
- Stew

Use a program like YamiPod to copy them back over to your PC and into iTunes.

syncing iphone and can't seem to transfer audiobooks that i have put in a playlist.  Sync menu doesn't show all playlists.  Help

I have the same problem with podcast playlists.  When I go to the music window in my iPhone devices section, the playlists I have created on my macbook pro in iTunes do not appear as an option to sync with the iPhone.  I know some web radios streams, like the BBC, won't transfer because of compatibility issues, but the playlists of podcasts that I have created consist entirely of podcasts downloaded from the podcasts section on the iTunes Music Store.  They used to show up and sync properly before I upgraded to OS 5.1.1, but now they don't.
Does anyone have a fix and am I right in surmising that the cause is a glitch in OS 5.1.1?

  • PLAYLIST PROBLEM--Help if you Can!

Okay, so I just got an iPod Nano 4th Generation and I know nothing.
I had a number of music and other audio files in my iTunes Library, all together in the main playlist as I didn't know how to make separate playlists.
When I plugged my iPod in, I thought it might let me select which tunes I wanted from the Library playlist by checking them, BUT NO, it just sucked every bit of audio (that it understood) onto the iPod whether I wanted it there or not.
Then, I thought I would be smart (never try to outsmart a machine!) I thought I would create a separate playlist for the audio I DIDN'T want on my iPod, and leave what I DID want in my iTunes Library. I managed to create a playlist, and got some of the tunes from the Library to the new Playlist, although there was some audio (phone messages and other files which were not tunes) it didn't seem to like and although it was in the iTunes Library would not transfer to the new playlist.
Then, it played a DIRTY ROTTEN TRICK on me. I had a tune I wanted in the new playlist but NOT the Library or iPod, so I deleted it from the iTunes Library and IT TOOK IT OFF THE NEW PLAYLIST, TOO! Now, what's the point of having separate playlists, if you can't have some things in one, and some in another?
Meanwhile, the best way (really, since there are not many tunes on it) I see of getting the unwanted audio off my iPod is just to Refresh--since I tried the instructions (as far as I could make them out) for deleting individual tunes, and it didn't work, so to heck with it--trouble is, now the iPod copy of the one tune is the only copy I have! So is there a way I can:
    1. Get this audio OFF MY iPOD, (since there doesn't seem to be a way to recover deleted audio in iTunes--is there?) into the iTunes playlist in which I want it in but NOT my main iTunes Library and
    2. Get the other audio out of my main library to the new Playlist
so I can at least start all over? Also, once I get things on the iPod the way I want (ha) can I put tunes already on the iPod into another Playlist and delete them from the main Library playlist, so it doesn't copy them all over the next time I try to put something on my iPod? Thanks for any helpful suggestions!

if I don't want it on the iPod I delete it straight out of the library
Then you don't need to tick *Sync only checked items*.
I'd like to keep the albums as playlists, you know, in case anything happens to this iPod or I get another.
Don't know what this means. If you get another iPod, just plug it in whether you have playlists or not.
You don't need to keep individual playlists for each album. iTunes menu View -> Show browser to see each individual Genre, Artist and Album.
You don't need ANY playlist to put everything onto the iPod.
Just select the iPod in iTunes, click the Music tab and select *Sync all music and playlists*.
And you can use iTunes without the iPod.

  • Ipod only displays songs in playlists..Help!

Help - my Ipod nano only displays songs as playlists - in other words I cannot view songs as album, song, genre etc.....how on earth do you solve this??? Thanks!

Try putting the iPod into disk mode. I know that you said a reset was unsuccessful, but just try.
-hold menu + select buttons for 10 - 15 seconds
-when you see the apple logo fade away and come back on the screen IMMEDIATELY switch to holding the select and play/pause button
If you get the checkmark with OK to disconnect, that is a plus. Plug it into your computer and it should switch to "Do Not Disconnect - Disk Mode" At that point it should be recognized by your itunes and you should be able to transfer your purchased items off of it.
If not - iPod will need repaired.

  • Itunes to Iphone Playlist transfer?

How can I transfer a playlist from the Itunes on my PC onto my iphone 4? I have the latest Itunes. Thanks!

Ctrl+s doesn't do anything.  I can get a sidebar by clicking on "playlists" at the top but the device doesn't show up in the sidebar anymore, only a list of playlists.  If I try to drag a playlist onto the "iPhone" device icon in the top right corner of the window it doesn't let me, and nothing happens.
If I try dragging an individual album to the right in order to get it onto my iphone via a sidebar that opens up on the right hand side, as the tutorial says, that works.  But it doesn't work if you try to drag individual songs or groups of songs.  There is apparently no way to get a song onto your iPhone anymore, or a playlist.  (After more fiddling) ... okay, you can do the drag-to-the-right-and-a-new-window-will-open-up thing with individual songs but you can't do it from the "songs" or "artists" or "genres" or "playlists" list, you can only do it from the 'album' list.
(Further fiddling, using every possible command button - none of them worked - and then every possible combination of command buttons to see if I could get the sidebar window to open up): ctrl+s does nothing; likewise option+s and command+s.  However, And I am going to put this in caps for all the other frustrated people out there,
OPTION+COMMAND+S WILL OPEN THE SIDEBAR WINDOW!
And then you can put music and playlists on your iPhone the way you used to be able to before they decided to make iTunes impossible to do anything but buy stuff with.
No thanks to Apple for not bothering to put this anywhere in the documentation, or the help file.

  • 160GB (Video Playlist Usage Help Request)

Hi all... first time posting here... first time here.
Anyway, I've got a 160GB iPod Classic. I finally placed some videos on it and promptly made some playlists through iTunes.
My problem is that I can only play one video at a time and when it finishes it starts over again (never moving on to the next video in the playlst). Also, I can't seem to skip to the next clip using the >>| key. I can fast forward or pres |<< to reset the video though.
I've noticed that when I try to play the playlist outright by pressing the >|| on the playlist (vs going to the clip as I did above), the playlist will show an "audio note" icon and then says "1 of 0" and scrolls the title of the clip but never plays the clip.
Is there something about setting up a video playlist I'm missing? Or did I make a mistake by placing all my clips into the "movies" section and then making playlists through iTunes (they all showed up mixed in with the audio playlists... but are showing up correctly in the "video playlists" section of my iPod)?
I guess I assumed I could play my video clips just like my music and my music playlists... by skipping to the next clip, making a playlist and even shuffling that playlist to get "random episodes" to play.
Am I wrong to think that or have I simply done something wrong with creating my lists or syncing the iPod.
If it helps the clips/video are in the "M4V" format.
thanks for any tips or help,
    TK.

Thank you for the reply... I'm still having trouble though.
I can't seem to find the "options tab" you spoke of so I can't go any further than that.
This is what I've done so far:
Got the videos in the M4V format for iPod...
I then moved/copied them into my directly onto my iPod through iTunes, the files synced and they show up on my iPod...
I then made playlists by right clicking my iPod and using "new playlist"...
I then selected the clips I wanted for each playlist and moved/copied them to the playlist I wanted...
I then removed my iPod from my PC and am able to play any of the clips either by going to the "movies" section or by going into my "video playlists" section, but I can only play one clip at a time and at the end of the clip my iPod only restarts the same clip. I can't skip to another clip and the playlists themselves don't play as described above. In order to play another clip I have to back out of the current clip using the "menu" button and then select a new clip.
In iTunes when I right click on any of the movies I only get the following options: Get info, rating, reset play count, reset skip count, uncheck selection, mark as not new, show in playlist, copy, delete, apply sort field.
When I right click a playlist I get the following options: copy, eject, copy to play order, transfer purchases, reset warnings, delete.
I also checked all the "file, edit, view, etc" top bar options and couldn't find anything relating to "skip during shuffle".
Lastly, I've double checked my iPod settings and it appears that all my playlists are setup to shuffle and repeat.
I'm still willing to try what you said if I can find it, lol.
    Here's my iTunes version: 8.0.2.20
Here's my iPod software version: 1.1.2 (iPod Classic 160GB with 148.79GB free currently).
thank you again for any more suggestions or tips,
    TK.

  • Ipod error message on syncing playlists! HELP!

Songs on your ipod cannot be updated because all of the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist.
I get this message when my iTunes opens when connecting my iPod Mini.
I don't have very much memory on my iMac so that might be why.
    Someone please help me!

You get this problem when the option 'Sync Music - Selected playlists' is being used to sync your iPod and then the playlist it has been updating from is deleted. Most people use this setting when the iPod is smaller than the iTunes library. If your library is larger than the capacity of your iPod, iTunes by default makes a new playlist called something along the lines of "Owner's iPod". If you for any reason delete it, you will not be able to sync your iPod.
Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -iPod to make it the first playlist in Sources. You can make this a normal playlist and drag whatever you want to it or you can make it a random Smart playlist. If you are making a smart playlist limit it to just less than the size of your iPod (for example 3700MB for a 4G iPod Mini). Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting:

  • Suddenly can't drag songs to a different order in playlists.  Help?

I used to click and drag songs in my Itunes playlists to burn CD's in a specific order.  All of a sudden I cannot move the songs.  Click and drag isn't working.  I have had Itunes for about 7-8 years and this is the first problem I've had.  Any help?

Apple does not post or respond to these user-to-user forums.
Apple very, very rarely shares what they are working on so there is no way of knowing if Apple is working on this issue. I highly doubt any Apple employees who may be working on it would risk their job by talking about it

  • Songs not showing up in playlist! Help!

I made a new playlist on my computer and it said it had 56 songs on it. I put it on my ipod (all of the songs are the correct format). If i click on the playlist under my ipod icon in my itunes it says 56 songs just like it was supposed to. But if i go to listen to the playlist on my ipod it says there are only 51 songs. Why aren't all the songs showing up???? HELP!!!

Is this a smart playlist? If so, it could be related to the known bug where a playlist's content and sort order don't match iTunes. There is a workaround for that though, just edit the playlist by adding the criteria "Playlist Is Music", where "Music" is the general category in iTunes for music items.
If that's not it, it could be that some of your songs are tagged as "Skip when shuffling", so when your iPod is in shuffle mode they won't show up in the playlist.

  • Rearranging song order in Playlist - any help please?

Folks, I have put together a playlist for a party and it is ~3 hrs long. I would like to move some of the songs around, perhaps listening tracks earlier, fast paced then dancing tracks later. I thought it would be easy enough to just drag tracks up or down. Unfortunately, not so. Is it possible from within the playlist? I have also filtered on the song title column so I cannot understand why it is not letting me. The "Apple Genius" at the Chermside, Australian Apple store was unable to help either and gave me this forum detail.
    Tks in advance,
    Scott

Thank you, Limnos. I was just searching for the same question. YOU answered it perfectly. So simple! So easy! Hmmm . . . how do I give you a BIG STAR?? I guess I can't if I didn't ask the question
But you sure answered it for me!

  • Folder/File transfer help

I'm trying to transfer files/folders from an old macbook to a new one, but when I connected the new to the old via firewire, finder was not able to locate them. The folders I am looking for are placed on the sidebar of the old mac. The only folders finder displays are the generic downloads folder and desktop of the old macbook. Even when searching for specific files within said folders, no results are found. Is it a user access problem? Do I need to alter some settings? The only way I can access the old macbook is via firewire because the video card burnt out. Any help in the right direction would be appreciated. Thanks

Your external hard drive is probably in NTFS format, which is read-only to the Mac OS. If the harrd drive will be used only with a Mac or Macs, reformat it in Mac OS Extended format using Disk Utility. If you must use the drive with a Windows PC too, leave it in NTFS format and install Tuxera NTFS or NTFS-3G on the Mac to enable the Mac to write to the disk, or else put the disk in Mac format and install MacDrive on the PC.
