Playlist transfer

Does anyone know how to transfer a playlist from one itunes computer to another?  I tried library/export playlist and that did not work.

Hi,
Both computers contain approximately the same 8,000 songs.  I'm going from my Mac Book Pro to a Mac Pro.  The playlist is one I put together awhile back called "CH - 60's".  It's got about 250 songs on it.  When I did the library export it made a txt file by the same name.  When iI clicked to view the contents, this is all it contained:
Name
Artist
Composer
Album
Grouping
Genre
Size
Time
Disc Number
Disc Count
Track Number
Track Count
Year
Date Modified
Date Added

  • Itunes Playlist Transfer From One Computer to another

i followed the support instructions for transferring itunes playlist from one computer to another but when i did it it created one massive playlist is there any way to transfer your itunes playlists to another computer so i dont have to remake all my playlist again im a dj and its kinda hard to to dj looking through over 30k plus songs searching for one after another.... please help someone.... thank you

Copy \Music\iTunes\iTunes library.xml file to the desktop on the new computer.
Open iTunes on the new computer then File > Library > Import playlist and select the iTunes library.xml you copied.

  • Playlist Transfer Help

I am trying to place the same playlists from one itunes (mac laptop) to another (imac). I have used the export playlist feature to create an xml document and then used the itunes from the other computer to import playlist. It isn't working that I can tell as the playlist on the older machine haven't updated. Do I need to throw away an old itunes file like when you do the Library transfer? Also, I don't have the exact same music library on each machine and don't want the same library.
Lastly, it is strange that the "export playlist" language is singular, not plural as in "import playlist(s)". This isn't a process that has to be repeated for each playlist?
    TIA

Use a program like YamiPod to copy them back over to your PC and into iTunes.

  • Play Counts and Playlist Transfer

I have a new PC and have saved my existing library to the exterbal hard drive. The new PC came with the latest itunes program and although I can transfer the music into the new itunes program, my playlists and play counts do not come with it.
    Any thoughts on this?
    Ta Very much

I suspect you've left something out of the mix in the transfer...
These are two possible approaches that should work to move the existing library to the new laptop.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase are reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you can no longer access the original library or a backup see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • HT1329 Playlist transfer to new computer

I've moved all the songs to my new computer.   To save time reorganizing, can all the playlists be moved also?

The playlists are stored in the iTunes library database file.  To preserve your complete iTunes library, including things like playlists, ratings, playcount, etc., what you need to do is move the entire iTunes folder, from your user account home folder to the new computer.  This includes your iTunes Media folder with your song files.
If you have already manually added the song files to a new iTunes library on the new computer (which creates a new iTunes library database file), you are beyond the point where you can easily get your old playlists back.
If you still have access to your old computer with its iTunes setup intact, you can follow this procedure to move your complete iTunes folder to the new computer. Then, iTunes on the new computer will look exactly like iTunes on the old computer.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4527
The procedure to move the complete iTunes folder is the one called External drive.
Although the procedure has many parts and steps, some of them may not apply to your situation.  At the high level, you are (1) consolidating your iTunes files so that they are all located in the iTunes folder.  If you have been using the standard settings for iTunes, all of your iTunes files may already be in the iTunes folder. Then, (2) copying that iTunes folder to an external drive.  And (3) copying that iTunes folder from the external drive to the new computer, to take the place of the existing iTunes folder.  If you know how to set up a network connection between the two computers, you can transfer the folder over that connection directly from one computer to the other (with no external drive needed).
The next time you run iTunes on the new computer, it will use your old iTunes foider and it will look like iTunes running on your old computer, with all of your songs and playlists.

  • HT4527 Playlist transfer problem

I followed these instructions exactly for the external hard drive method, but it looks like neither my playlists nor any metadata are transferring. This is a Macbook Air 2008 to a current Air (not sure why it's having select "iTunes for Windows" community); my hard drive failed for the old Air, so there's no way I can go back and reconfigure iTunes from there. All I have retrieved is the full and exact iTunes folder. Any ideas? Thanks!

  • Itunes to Iphone Playlist transfer?

How can I transfer a playlist from the Itunes on my PC onto my iphone 4? I have the latest Itunes. Thanks!

Ctrl+s doesn't do anything.  I can get a sidebar by clicking on "playlists" at the top but the device doesn't show up in the sidebar anymore, only a list of playlists.  If I try to drag a playlist onto the "iPhone" device icon in the top right corner of the window it doesn't let me, and nothing happens.
If I try dragging an individual album to the right in order to get it onto my iphone via a sidebar that opens up on the right hand side, as the tutorial says, that works.  But it doesn't work if you try to drag individual songs or groups of songs.  There is apparently no way to get a song onto your iPhone anymore, or a playlist.  (After more fiddling) ... okay, you can do the drag-to-the-right-and-a-new-window-will-open-up thing with individual songs but you can't do it from the "songs" or "artists" or "genres" or "playlists" list, you can only do it from the 'album' list.
(Further fiddling, using every possible command button - none of them worked - and then every possible combination of command buttons to see if I could get the sidebar window to open up): ctrl+s does nothing; likewise option+s and command+s.  However, And I am going to put this in caps for all the other frustrated people out there,
OPTION+COMMAND+S WILL OPEN THE SIDEBAR WINDOW!
And then you can put music and playlists on your iPhone the way you used to be able to before they decided to make iTunes impossible to do anything but buy stuff with.
No thanks to Apple for not bothering to put this anywhere in the documentation, or the help file.

If you haven't already done so, change the update setting for your iPod to manual. If you are using the iPod in manual update mode, your iPod is safe from being accidentally erased when you connect to an empty iTunes after reinstalling your operating system. However if your iPod is set to automatically update you will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No*. Pressing "Yes" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual.
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys (on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box: Managing Your Songs Manually
After you have your PC sorted out, there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs but not playlists back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.

  • MediaSource Smart Playlists--Transfer to playe

I really like MediaSource's Smart Playlist feature, but I'd really like to actually be able to use them on my player. Is there any way to upload these playlists to the Zen Touch (which is what I have) to either automatically change using the parameters set, or at least with just a list of files? It would be preferable if it could make the playlist on the player, but I could also make one on MediaSource using my computer's backup of my Touch...

All you can do is copy the files in the playlist to a playlist you create on the player, at which point of course they become "dumb" static playlists.

  • ITunes Playlist Transfer to iPhone

    Hi,
Since the new iTunes update I've noticed my iPhone is missing certain playlists and I also noticed playlists I had deleted years ago are now on my iPhone.
How do I select which playlists I want on my iPhone?
I'm hoping Im missing something really obvious

  • Zen Micro: Playlist transfer issues upd

<FONT face=Century color=#663300 size=2>I have been browsing through this forum checking out synchronising issues with the Zen Micro. I have only been able to use the Creative software to physically sync playlists to the device. WMP0 will happily sync the songs, but not the playlist itself.

<FONT color=#663300 size=2>Do I [and I guess, should I] update my firmware to allow WMP0 to sync playlists? I notice that a few of you have reservations about the firmware upgrade and how it affects the relationship between the device and various other programs. Does the upgrade prevent using Creative's software? Or is there another path I can take?

  • I want to transfer my library and all of the settings and playlists to my new computer

I am interested in moving my entire library from one PC to another.  I want to keep all of my playlists and settings (ratings) so I don't have to do them again.  I have an external drive and have followed all of the steps from itunes four seperate times.  I can move the library, but none of the settings or playlist transfer.

This forum is for questions from those managing sites on iTunes U, Apple's service for colleges and universities to post educational material in the iTunes Store. You'll be most likely to get help with this issue if you ask in the general iTunes for Windows forums.
    Regards.

  • When I create a playlist and sync it to my iPhone not all of the playlist transfers over.  All of the songs are there and are playable they just do not show up on the playlist.

When I create a playlist and sync it to my iPhone not all of the songs on the playlist transfer over.  All of the songs are there and are playable they just do not show up on the playlist.  For example, in itunes on my computer a playlist has over 100 songs, but when I sync my phone, my iphone only shows 60 songs.  I can go into my phone and add the missing songs to the playlist, but the next time I sync my phone the songs are gone again.

Wondering if you haven't been bitten by the new "feature" of iOS 5, as was my son. turingtest2 explained it very well in reply to my own query about "missing" songs in playlists.

  • Neither of my iPods are updating one of my playlists

The songs from the playlists are all copied over, but my one Smart Playlist WILL NOT transfer over. The playlist is there on one of my iPod's but there is no music in the playlist. The other 5th Gen iPod doesn't even have the playlist listed.
I've tried resetting the 3rd Generation iPod, but it hasn't cured the situation. I've tried changing the songs in the Smart Playlist and it still won't update. All my other playlists, including one other Smart Playlist transfer over no problem.
All my playlists include both protected and unprotected songs...its a real mystery. It only started after upgrading to iTunes 7.0. I have all the necessary software updates in place too. I upgraded to 7.01 iTunes and I still have the same problem. I have lots of room on both iPods too. This is super ******* me off and I'd really like help!! ANYONE!!!!

as much as i'd love to help, i have the same problem, but mine is only every so often, my ipod freezes when i plug it into my laptop, and then i have to reset it manually and it becomes corrupt, i'm about ready to go buy a zune, i got it for christmas last year, and it hasnt worked right since day one, and i hate to get a zune because i love my ipod, but try to reinstall the apple drivers from your device manager, just uninstall any usb driver that has to do with your ipod, and then reconnect your ipod and it should reinstall them automatically
