Playlist with podcast

Hi,
Since i installed podcast app, i cant add podcasts to my playlists.
If i uninstall I can, but then i cant download new podcasts.
Is there a workaround to have both functionalities, like in iOS5 ?
Why did Apple remove it ?
Thanks,

Same issue here. Smart playlists for podcasts do not work on iPad. Grrr!

  • How to create a playlist with podcasts AND music?

I created a playlist with both podcasts and music in it. The thing is when I try to shuffle it, only music plays. When I start playing podcasts, none of my music plays. How can I make them both play at the same time and shuffle on the same playlist?

In iTunes, you created a playlist (with songs and podcasts), and then synced that playlist to the iPod?  Or you manually created a playlist on the iPod, and manually added songs and podcasts to that playlist?  It needs to be an actual playlist that is on the iPod, not simply songs and podcasts on the iPod.
If you have a playlist on the iPod....  In shuffle mode, only songs play.  Set the iPod to play-in-order (not shuffle).  Then, select the playlist on the iPod (by selecting Music -> Playlists from the Home screen).  With the playlist selected, press Play/Pause.  The playlist plays the song and podcasts in the order shown for that playlist in iTunes.

  • Is it possible to play a playlist with podcasts in it? (Nano 3rd gen.)

I can't play the playlist, the now playingscreen shows the title of a song (that's not even in the playlist) and 1 of 0 and nothing is playing. Happens with all playlists that have one or more podcasts in it. Playlist with only songs work good.
I have already reset the iPod.
    Thanks for helping me out!

My god, what is the problem here? Is it too much to ask for an answer to my question? Is this a forum or what?
Yes, it's a user-to-user forum. If no one knows the answer to your question or no one feels like answering it, you won't get an answer. This is NOT Apple tech support.
My iPod is not functioning, and Apple just doesn't give a f*? What kind of business are you running?
"Apple" as a corporate entity, doesn't participate much in these forums. You can contact Apple Tech Support directly. The contact information can be accessed through the link at the lower right of every page that says "Contact Us". It has been my experience that they are very helpful. If you are beyond the warranty/support period, that help may cost you.
    Best of luck.

  • 3.1.3 Software Update and Smart Playlists with Podcasts

I did the 3.1.3 update last night and now my smart playlist containing podcasts is gone.
Has anyone else seen this behavior?
    Any idea on a fix?
    Thanks

For whatever it's worth, 3.1.3 appears to have fixed my problems with Smart Playlists...
In 3.1 and 3.1.2 I'd get the same contents of a Smart Playlist between iTunes and the iPhone, but a very different order.
e.g. I have my Podcasts smart playlist set to order by ascending publish date. A bit annoying because I wouldn't get them played back in chronological order on the iPhone, but only an annoyance.
Now since applying 3.1.3 - with no mods to filters or Live Updating I might add - they've back to showing the right order on the iPhone as well as on iTunes. Which is a relief. Long may it continue!
PS: I did also update iTunes to 9.0.3... I don't suppose this would help those on the list having troubles would it?

  • ITunes 9 no longer supports iPod to sync playlists made with podcast files

With the last iTunes upgrade my iPod can't recognize those playlists I had previously created with podcasts files downloaded using iTunes. They just have disappeared from the list in the section Playlists of my old iPod 5G. The same occurs with a new iPod Touch 3G, thus it seems to be related with some change in my computer's software rather than the iPod.
With this last v.9 upgrade all my old podcasts had also disappeared from the section Podcasts but I eventually I could find the cause and fixed it: By default iTunes 9 is configured so that those podcasts which have been totally or partially listened are not synchronize. This can be easily modified opening the Podcasts tab in the iTunes device settings and change the options in 'Sync Podcasts'.
I'd really appreciate I could transfer again my podcast playlists to my iPod. I find rather disappointing to lose the iPod feature I've probably being used most frequently during the last 3 years. It'd thank anyone who could tell me some way to go around this constriction. Otherwise I hope this feature to be supported by iTunes in future upgrades.

I noticed that the same topic was posted in September as an iPhone issue. The discussion also centered around smart playlists. Although a few workarounds were posted, mostly involving changing the podcast genre to "Music" from "Podcast", I have not been able to sync these playlists.
I want to simply create a playlist with podcasts and sync these playlists to my ipod Touch. This is handy, if not essential, for safe enjoyment of my podcasts while driving.
Is Apple considering a fix for this ?! Or is there a workaround ?

  • 20gb iPod dock won't update podcasts, playlists with iTunes 7.02

My 20gb ipod with dock won't sync properly with iTunes 7. Not all of the podcasts will transfer from itunes to my ipod and my playlist with podcasts can't be updated. Any ideas what might be happening? It only started when I updated to iTunes 7.02
imac 2 GHz Intel Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I think the problem is more of a corrupted library data file than the actual program. Ok, so the update/grade to 7.0.X problaby caused the corruption, but after starting over with a new iTunes Library (data, not XML) file, everything seems to be working fine with 7.0.2. My whole story is below:
Ok after my early elation of having my ipods up and running (and not useless pieces of expensive junk), I ran into more problems when trying to sync. It seemed like the ipod was locking up and when I tried to eject, then iTunes would lock up. I tried with my current 7.0.2 version. I rolled back to 6.0.5. I could add some music without any problems, except that I lost all my playlists since I had to start with a fresh library. So I tried to use my most recent library file (obviously that didn't work since it was in a newer version format). So I went back to my last 6.0 library (in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder). That's when all the frustration started. My iPod kept locking up (meaning an erase (sometimes with zeroing out data - a 2 hour process!), restore, update, and crossing of fingers). I tried this process with several different iTunes libraries under 6.0.5 and the result was always the same: a lot of cussing on my part. So I figured, what the heck lets try going back to 7.0.2, it can't get any worse than it is right now, I mean broken is broken, regardless of the iTunes version. I tried the sync manually, no playlists, fresh version of iTunes library, fresh iPod (erased & restored). Those songs transferred ok and speedily. So I tried more songs and then the entire library (still no playlists). That worked well. So then I tried adding a playlist. It worked too. More playlists, still working. The only thing that I haven't done is: updating podcasts, and I stopped the "download artwork" process (kind of pointless on a monochrome iPod).
Hope my story helps. Other than the extremely irritating loss of time (and the new, colorful vocab my 2 year old has), the loss of my playlists isn't too major: they needed a reorg anyway. But for serious iPoders (DJ's, Nike+ users, etc.) this loss could be a very big deal.
Apple should have tested more thoroughly. Their haste to counteract the fair share hack, has caused more problems with the majority of legal users, than it solved with the minority of hackers.

  • ITunes 11.2 often hangs if I do anything with podcasts

As per title - since the new iTunes 11.2 (and also with 11.2.1), pretty much anytime I move in to the Podcasts tab, or a playlist with podcasts, I get the spinning wheel for around 10 seconds. I guess I'm relatively lucky, because unlike many other users, I'm not getting any crashes - but the hanging is annoying, and "new". Or at least new with my current iMac 2009 - iTunes hangs were one of the main reasons I got a new computer back then, and until a week ago, I'd had no hangs at all with iTunes on the no-longer-new computer. For an incremental iTunes "update" to significantly decrease functionality isn't exactly a welcome development.
Anyway, are others experiencing this kind of slowing, and are there any tips about how to avoid it? (Apart from avoiding podcasts altogether, which I'm increasingly doing on my computer, opting instead for the far simpler option of downloading them to my iPhone and listening off the iPhone rather than my computer speakers.)
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
I've got the same problems with iTunes as Lost in Asia since the 11.2.1 update.
It is no fun to use iTunes for Podcasts when it's performing slowly, or doesn't performa at all.
    Another iTunes Podcast function problem:
    I refreshed my podcast list.
    Let the downloads happen.
Dragged-and-dropped a few podcasts to my USB stick.
Selected my 44 podcast subscriptions and tried to "Mark them as played" to keep the list neat.
After that, complete freeze. Rainbow ball. iTunes not responding. Had to force quit.
Tried to let the rainbow ball "work" for an hour, but it wouldn't do anything.
Rebooted my iMAc in Safe mode, as suggested --> no difference in performance.
Rebooted my iMac AND iTunes in Safe mode --> no difference in performance.
Removed the single iTunes plug-in from my iMac --> no difference in performance.
Unplugged my externals (USB stick, back-up drive) and only let the Ethernet link to internet on --> no difference in performance.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Did Apple get rid of the Smart playlist for Podcasts in iOS 6

I can not figure out how to do a smart playlist consisting of Podcast with apples latest ios.  I had no problem making smart playlist with podcast when the podcast were included with the music app.

But I have at last found a fix that has worked for me, at least. I deleted the Podcasts app from my iPhone 4 (and from iTunes on my Mac), re-started my iPhone, and - Happy Days! - the unplayed podcast episodes I was looking for have returned to my smart playlist in the Music app, as they are in the iTunes smart playlist on my Mac.

  • ITunes loses my entire library with artwork, playlists and podcasts every time I close the program. Any advice very welcome

iTunes loses my entire library with artwork, playlists and podcasts every time I close the program. Upon restarting it takes at least 15 minutes to rebuild the library and podcasts and a lot longer to replace the artwork, I also lose playlists. I would really welcome some feedback and assistance here and am losing faith in the Apple product. Since iTunes has been updated to version 11 it seems to have caused a lot of issues for many people. I am hopeful of a reply and a resolution. I have approx. 1200 albums at just under 90 Gb. Thanks in advance for any help.

Ditch AVG (at this stage it really does seem to be the problem for some people) and install Microsoft Security Essentials...

  • , I-tunes can no longer 'locate' my library , after a botched cut & paste attempt to back-up onto an external drive. Still syncing with i-Pod but playlists lost , podcasts no longer syncing, Can't play music .. how to restore back to original state .

I-tunes can no longer 'locate' my library , after a botched cut & paste attempt to back-up onto an external drive.Cant play any music as it "can't find" the library  Still syncing with i-Pod but playlists lost , podcasts no longer syncing.   How to restore back to original state . I have tried re-installing  - with no change

I do the same thing as you do...
My music is on an external drive as to not use up gigabytes of storage that need not be used for media.
There are a couple basic principles to iTunes that I believe you should know.
    1. iTunes is not a media storage program. It does not store your media "in iTunes". It simply is an organization tool for your media already on a hard disk.
    2. As iTunes is not a storage mechanism, it has no way to "know" whether or not the media that is listed is actually there. This is where the "design" of iTunes comes into play.
I like to think of iTunes as a bread-crumb trail. The "music" in iTunes, isn't actually there. The bread crumb is the location on the external hard drive.
If that bread crumb trail disappears (in this case the external drive you use). If said external drive is not plugged in, that bread crumb trail is not able to be followed. iTunes is "lost" and unable to find the media. The only way to remedy this is to place the media on your local drive.
To address your issue of the library. If you hold down shift, you can select your library on your external drive. It will be a file with an .itl extension. The folder name will be your external drive.
I go into edit > preferences > advanced and set my library to the correct location. Make sure you check the box "Copy to iTunes Folder when importing" (or whatever it says).
You can't fix the issue of iTunes not seeing the media if your drive is unplugged unless you physically move the content to your OS HDD...Or any other HDD you use.

  • Why can't I sync a playlist with only podcasts in it (to my IPHON4)?

Made a playlist with specific podcasts in it. (my weekly show series I like to listen to)
But, it will not sync the podcast shows. It seems like I can only sync the 10 or 5 or xx latest shows. Seems kind of dumb that I can't create a list to be able to listen to several podcasts in a user defined order....
    Grrrrr Steve....

Are any of the podcasts video podcasts? If I recall, that will cause a problem.

  • Can't create a playlist of podcasts with iTunes 7

Before iTunes 7, I was able to create a playlist consisting of a particular podcast, and play those tracks continuously. Now when I create a playlist of that podcast, only one podcast will play and then it goes to the main menu. When that podcast is playing, it is listed as track 1/1. This problem seems to only affect podcasts and not songs. Anyone have any fixes?
      Windows XP   64-bit

I have this working without problems. I have a smart playlist with two rules.
    genre is podcast
    playcount < 1
This worked with 6 and still works with version 7. I just wish you could sort be podcast date but that is not an option.

  • Can I still make a playlist of podcasts with the new podcast app?

Can I still make a playlist of podcasts with the new podcast app?

No, for some reason it's not included as one of the features of the Podcast App.
If you need playlists (as many of us do), then delete the Podcast App and podcasts will return to the music app, complete with podcast playlist functionality.

  • Playlists of Podcasts will not sync with iPhone

    Hi,
For the first time since updating to iOS 7 I have tried to sync a Playlist of Podcasts and noticed that the playlist no longer appears in Music on my iPhone.  Looking in Podcasts, there isn't a Playlist option.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks, Gordon

    Allen thanks for you assistance,
<If you have a MobileMe account that you are accessing on your Mac as well as with your iPhone, and you have Contacts and Calendar On for automatic syncing via Push with the MobileMe "cloud", you aren't syncing your iPhone direct with your Mac for this data via the iTunes sync process. It is one or the other for syncing this data, not both.>
Got it - this what I am doing at the present time.
<What are your settings for syncing with MobileMe on your Mac?>
    <Automatic or manual?> Automatic
<With a MobileMe account, the Address Book and iCal on your Mac are kept synchronized with the MobileMe "cloud" and the same with the iPhone for this data depending on your MobileMe account settings on your Mac and on your iPhone.>
This is the issue - when I change something on my mac - it shows up on Mobile Me via the cloud - my iPod Touch even makes the changes as I would expect with my iPhone. I think I have sent up my iPhone appropriately but I could be wrong. I followed Apple's instructions at:
    http://www.apple.com/mobileme/setup/iphone/mac.html
Like I said - it is driving me nuts - cause changes on my iPhone will show up on my mac and iPod touch - but when I make changes to something on my mac it will show up on iPod touch but not on my iPhone.
    Thanks everyone,
    Brad

I used to be able to play music and podcasts in a single playlist (with iTunes DJ), but now can't seem to do this.  Is there a way around this with iTunes 11?

You are freaken genius!  Apple should update their instructions on how to give playlists, because the old way no longer works.  And people tend to give gifts around this time of year.  Anyway, mahalo niu loa (thank you very much)!
