PLAYLISTS AND PURCHASED SONGS

Before Christmas (07), the wheels came off the wagon and I lost everything. SORT OF. I'm still not certain (though I've deleted what I see are the duplicate songs) how I went from 50G of music to 103G of music. I see the TEdiron's scripts but I think that only dedupes iTunes and not the ex-hd where the music is stored.
What I'd like to know is this....is there a way to search for the following:
1. dupes on my external hard drive and then delete them
2. purchased content on my ex-hd so that it can all be corralled.
OR...(for #2) because my PC has been restored to its original factory settings, will it find all of the purchased content?
Thanks for the help. You guys are amazing!!!

idk what happened, but did u try seeing if the files are still on your computer? if u didn't change the location of the files since u first installed iTunes, there should be an "iTunes" folder within your "My Music" folder. the iTunes files might still be there

  • Lost all playlists and purchased songs after 11.1.5.5

All of my playlists, the purchased tab, suddenly disappeared after the 11.1.5.5 update.  Seems like others have had the same issue.  I'm a senior citizen, not the most technically savvy guy on the net, and need some help to fix.  Anyone out there help me?  Very frustrating given how much money I've spent buying music from iTunes.

  • Playlists and purchased songs lost from new iTunes download

I've just downloaded the latest version of iTunes onto my laptop.  I've now noticed that all of my playlists are missing, and most of the songs that I've purchased from iTunes in the last 6 months or so are also missing from iTunes.  Although when I go to download them from the iTunes store it recognises that I have previously purchased them and I can download them again for free (although there are a lot of songs missing and I'm not entirely sure which ones are gone).
I still have all of the songs and playlists on my iPod, is there a way of getting them back onto my iTunes?
Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Updated to v10.3 and lost all my playlists and purchased songs

After upgrading to v10.3, all my purchased music and playlists were missing. When I go to my purchased music it shows everything i purchased and my acct. activity verifies the same. But when I try to download my previous purchased music, it prompts me to re-purchase music already paid for. Can someone shed light on this issue for me. And how in the world can you communicate with someone from itunes? That express lane stuff is a joke and seemingly a maze to navigate.

Using the phone as strongly recommended by Apple, you've been synching your contacts with Address Book, Outlook or a Cloud Service.  Just synch your contacts back from whichever of these sources you've been using....

  • How can I get a Printed list of 'all' of my playlists and the songs that are in each list

I want to get a printout of 'ALL' of my playlists and the songs that are in each one.  All at once.

And you are aware of the possible options for listing the months and having an optional export value for each month.
For listing the months, you can use a number, a 3 character string, or the full name.
For the export value, the full name, the 3 character value, the 1-2 number, or the 0-11 JavaScript value.
I would look at deciding how you want to populate the drop down box and build a one page form with just this field. You can then insert that page into a PDF and copy the field as needed and then delete the inserted page. Or you could create an FDF file to create the drop down box.

Connect the iPod to your computer and select it on the left-hand sidebar of your computer's iTunes (if you have iTunes 11 on your computer then you can enable the sidebar via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC), and then on the right-hand side you can use the Music tab to select which of your music that you want on the iPod.

  • ITunes deleted all playlists and purchases

    Help!
The other day I closed my iTunes program and it was working perfectly. I came back a few minutes later and re-opened it, only to find that all my playlists, purchases, everything had been deleted! All that is left is a library of songs about 3 years old. None of my activity (i.e. loaded songs, albums, purchases, etc.) since then is on there anymore.
I'm not computer savvy, so if anyone could break down some super simple help for me, that would be amazing!

It sounds like something has happened to your iTunes Library files - default location C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\My Documents\My Music\iTunes - which in addition to telling iTunes where the actual song files are located also contain playlist and related information.
If you don't have a back-up copy of the last "good" .itl file - which would restore your Library - there are a few options for you to consider:
    1) Search your computer for any and all of the .itl files it contains. Each .itl may contain references to a significantly, or completely, different library and following the steps described in this article in the Apple Knowledge Base, you can check them and may be able to reconnect iTunes with the particular Library that you're looking for. Close iTunes for a half minute or so before restarting it each time you want to choose a different library file.
At this stage, skip any of the .itl files located in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder ... We'll get back to those, if necessary, in Step 3).
    2) You can rebuild your Library with the procedure outlined in this article in the Apple Knowledge Base.
You will lose some of your playlist related information (playcounts, dates added, dates last played, etc.) - but will retain most of it (ratings, comments, etc.) - with this method. The actual contents of the Library should be up-to-date.
    3) If you don't like the idea of losing the playcounts and such, have a look at this Knowledge Base article for one other option.
Using this method will restore your iTunes Library to the exact state it was in on the date of the most recent .itl file in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder. The drawback is that any changes made since then - songs/playlists added and changes in playcounts, ratings, comments and such - will not be included in the restoration. But it will be easy to add newer songs by following the instructions linked to in Step 4).
    4) One final option is starting all over again with your iTunes Library by following the instructions in the Add to Library section of this KB article .
This will update iTunes with a list of all the files you add but will not maintain any of your playlists or related information.

  • Installing new version of itunes wipes out playlists and indivdual songs?

Can't access itunes store now, probably because I refused to install the recent upgrades. Current one is 9.0.2.25 and when I installed it, I had to completely recreate everything because this upgrade wiped out all my playlists, a lot of random downloaded songs that were in the Music Library and all the the songs I had purchased from itunes that I hadn't dragged onto my computer. Is there any way to prevent this from happening? In order to keep my playlists and all music, do I have to do a full backup prior to the upgrade and then restore it all after the upgrade? Thanks.

Very occasionally iTunes fails to rebuild the library properly following an upgrade. All you need to do is restore that backup you take regularly... Ah, OK.
In the *Previous iTunes Libraries* folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename *iTunes Library.itl* as *iTunes Library (Empty).itl* and then rename the restored file as *iTunes Library.itl*. Start iTunes. The library should be updated to the new format and hopefully it won't go wrong this time.
    When you've fixed things...
*Fast backup for iTunes library (Windows Only)*
Grab SyncToy 2.1, a free tool from MS. This can be used to copy your entire iTunes library (& other important data folders) onto another hard drive or network share. You can then use SyncToy periodically to synchronise or echo your library to the backup. A preview will show which files need to be updated giving you a chance to spot unexpected changes and during the run only the new or updated files will be copied saving lots of time. And if your media is all organised below the main iTunes folder then you should also be able to open the backup library on any system running the same version of iTunes.

  • Lost all playlists and purchases !!!

    Hi,
New to forum and urgently need a really experienced person to help with this.
I recently upgraded to Windows 8 and have had no end of problems with my computer since. Anyway, have restored most files but my iTunes has been playing up BIG TIME! Have un-installed / re-installed / un-installed again and so forth...
Having thought I had lost all of my files (even after backing up!) I managed to finally restore everything today (after nearly a week of perserverence) including losing all of my playlists (which I somehow manged to find of sorts...some tracks missing from own compiliations for some reason??)
So, computer has nearly gone through the window having restored all 300 + albums / artworks etc and dragged all music across to playlists from Music file only for iTunes to close all of a sudden and when I re-opened all my playlists have vanished and the album covers remain but with no images! Also this time round my purchases have disappeared from my Purchases Folder...very bizarre.
Have dragged library back across and album covers replaced, but still cannot find orginal playlists and their contents anywhere on my computer or external drive...
Can someone please, please, please tell me how I can restore all of my playlists as they were. Can't even seem to find on my external drive now which they were backed up to yet i manged to find only yesterday...it's like I have a gremlin...have run a full system check and  no bugs or anything detected.
HELP!!!! Have spent toooooo much time trying to resolve this and now getting desperate...
A step by step guide would be really appreciated ;-)

    Hi, dynammyke75.
Although your iTunes Library display is empty, your song files are probably still on your hard drive.
So the first thing you want to do is to confirm whether or not that is the case. Have a look at this article in the Apple Knowledge Base for some ideas on how to find them, changing file extensions in the search as is necessary (i.e. .mp3 or .m4a.)

  • Some playlists and/or songs "not eligible for iCloud"

I have a playlist that contains only music but iTunes Match refuses to upload it, saying it contains "other media types".
Having thoroughly gone through the contents of the playlist, I have found one song, a Frank Sinatra .mp3 ripped from a CD I own, that is listed as "not eligible for iCloud", as well as 4 songs marked by iCloud as "duplicates"
I have tried manually adding the Frank song to iCloud but its status remains unchanged.
The song, in mono, is a 733K MP3
I had to convert it to AAC which nearly quadrupled the size of the file to 3.2 MB and now it's uploaded...
However the status of the playlist remained unchanged until I also removed the "duplicates"
    a) iCloud should nevertheless sync playlists, minus the ineligible tracks
    b) or you should get a warning that it won't sync the playlist, and better error reporting so you can actually understand what the issue is, as opposed to the usually vague "iCloud doesn't like your track, but won't tell you why" message...
    c) duplicate tracks in playlists should automatically (or after a prompt) be replaced by the original track that is in iCloud.
iTunes Match, you have wasted many hours of my time despite my well organized and healthy library.
    Argh.
