Playlists created on iPhone disappear when I sync

Hi,
I have my iPhone setup to sync my calendar at work & my music at home.
Work computer is XP 32 bit, home computer is Windows 7 64 bit
The new version of the iPhone software 4.x allows you to create music playlists on the phone - hey - great!
So far so good.. but when I create a playlist on the iPhone, then sync at work the playlist on the iPhone disappears. Remember there's no syncing of music on the work computer so why does it "appear" to delete the playlist??
So I go home and sync the music and suddenly my play lists appear in iTunes and on the phone again.
What will happen when I sink at work tomorrow? I'm betting the playlists will disappear again.

You probably included some podcast in playlist. There was bug that was fixed in iTunes 10.1/iOS 4.2 (http://discussions.apple.com/post!reply.jspa?threadID=2564664). Try again.

I have bought music on my Iphone, i recently synced my phone and updated my software and now every song I purchased in the past month or so is gone from my phone and not in my library.  How do I get them back?  Why did this happen?

Did you sync before you updated, or as part of the process?

  • ITunes resets playlist created on iPhone/iPod while syncing

If I create a new playlist on iPhone, it imports fine to iTunes during sync.
If I then modify it or any other existing playlist on iPhone, after sync all modifications (additons/deletions/reordering) are lost — iTunes forces its version of the playlist no matter what's latest.

I too have this problem. Very annoying. I create playlists on the go and when I sync to iTunes it replaces them with the ones created on my iMac.......

I tend to make my playlists right on my ipod. This did not happen for the last 2 years. Just started recently. Did get a new computer recently.

That is because you got a new computer. You can only sync all media from one syncing computer. You can sync from any computer to iPod using the manual method but that does not sync from iPod to computer.

  • Photos that were on my iPhone 3Gs disappeared when I sync'd onto my PC.

I had photos that were on my iPhone 3Gs that disappeared when I sync'd the phone to my PC (Windows XP 2007). Where did they go and how do I get them a) back or b) get the photos moved to My Pictures folder? I did find the iPod Photo Cache within My Pictures folder. However, i can't open any of the subfolders so I don't know if these are the photos I lost. Further, I have no trouble downloading photos from my PC to the iPod. What happened here? How I make sure this doesn't happen again? Is there a way to recover the photos on my phone?

Photos transferred from your computer to your iPhone via the iTunes sync/transfer process is a one way transfer process only - from your computer to your iPhone.
As with iTunes content, photos can be transferred to an iPhone from a single computer only. When transferring photos from another computer, all photos transferred from a different computer will be erased from the iPhone first with a warning message provided indicating this will happen before doing so.
Photos transferred from your computer is selected under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, and any photos transferred from your computer should remain on your computer. If you have a single folder of photos selected to be transferred from your computer and switch to a different folder of photos, the first folder of photos currently on your iPhone will be erased from your iPhone first with a warning message provided before this occurs, but all photos transferred from your computer should remain on your computer.
Photos in your iPhone's Camera Roll are not included with the iTunes sync process except for being included with your iPhone's backup, which is updated as the first step during the iTunes sync process. Photos transferred from your computer via the iTunes sync process are not included with your iPhone's backup, but these photos should remain on your computer and be included with your computer's backup along with all other important data.

  • I need to transfer playlists from my old iphone into itunes so that I can then add them to my new iphone 6.  However, none of the playlists on my iphone appear when I connect to my macbook.  I have read other threads but have not found answer.  help!

I am a group exercise instructor and rely heavily on my playlists.  My old phone is an iphone 4s and I just bought an Iphone 6.  I also have a macbook where I keep my itunes account, but I create all my playlists on my phone.  I need to transfer those playlists from my old iphone into itunes in my computer so that I can then add them to my new iphone 6.  However, none of the playlists on my iphone appear when I connect to my macbook.  I have read other threads where the suggestion was to attach the old phone to itunes, find the phone in itunes and click the little arrow to the left to show the playlists.  Then right click on the playlist and export it, saving it to the desktop, to then import it into itunes.  However, in my case, the playlists do not show up when the phone is connected to itunes.  I have clicked on the little arrow and all I get is "music", "purchased", etc., but none of my playlists.   I'm sure some years back I probably deleted something in my itunes library and now none of my playlists show.  Please help me.  I would hate to have to recreate all of my playlists.  Thank you!

I know it sounds weird, and that is the reason I posted my question.  Because my case is not like all the ones I've found online and it's confusing.  I added a screen capture of my itunes with my old iphone (the one that houses my playlists) connected to it.
My playlists "ARE"  in my iphone 4s.  They are still there even though they do not show up when I plug in to itunes in my computer.
When connecting my phone to itunes on my macbook, the playlists do not appear anywhere in itunes.  I have found my connected iphone icon, I have clicked on the arrow next to it and it does pull up the standard lists that come with the iphone/itunes:  Music, Movies, TV shows, books.  That's it! below that is "Genius" and below "Geniuns" is "PLAYLISTS"  but the only playlist of mine that shows there is one that I created several years back titled "90's music" and that one I created it on my computer, not my phone.  Under "90's music" there are also other standard playlists that itunes automatically adds.
Does anyone else have this issue or know how to get around this.  I am starting to think that I am going to have to recreate these lists on my computer

All I can say is make sure you have the same account name on the computer like before, even if you have to create a new user under System Preferences>accounts, then log into your itunes account with that and try to reverse sync from the iPhone like you would normally.
Apple doesn't expect one to go backwards, so they are not all that friendly, you may have to ask around on MacRumors for third party software that can reverse sync from iOS devices.
    Good luck

  • Why have my iTunes playlists on my iPhone disappeared?

Why have my iTunes playlists on my iPhone disappeared even though they appear when I connect the phone to iTunes on my laptop? I do not seem to be able to retrieve or reinstall them. I normally manage my music manually.  Even recent CDs I imported which are showing up on iTunes on the laptop are not appearing on the iPhone.  What am I doing wrong?  I'm using the most recent versions of iTunes and OS software on laptop and iPhone.

    Hello Janeburows,
You might have setup your iTunes in such a way that you store your Media files on your External Hard Drive and if that is the situation then whenever you delete anything permanently from your iTunes on your Computer when the External Drive is connected then the Content will get deleted from your External Hard Drive. To verify the Location for the Media files which you have on iTunes do the following.
Open iTunes > Preferences> Advanced and you will see it under iTunes Media Folder Location

Thanks for the help.  However, I am afraid that this didn't change the problem.
I replaced the "iTunes Library.itl" file and still my playlists are gone.

  • I download apps directly to my iphone.  When I sync with my laptop, how do I avoid having sync delete apps, photos, songs downloaded on my iphone?

I download apps directly to my iphone.  When I sync with my laptop, how do I avoid having sync delete apps, photos/vdeos, songs downloaded on my iphone?

If you are syncing to the same computer that you always sync to, and have each of the items in itunes that you want synced then you shouldnt have an issue. The only way you would have an app come off your phone is if you uncheck that app from syncing in th apps location in itunes.

  • Where do Notes from the iPhone go when I sync with my Mac?

OK, so I have some Notes on my iPhone. When I sync it with my Mac, iTunes says it's sync'ing Notes, along with all the other stuff.
But then where do those Notes go on the Mac? I can't find them with Finder or Searchlight, or in iTunes. Shouldn't this be intuitively obvious in some way? Or am I just dense? Apple's online manual for the iPhone doesn't cover this, either.

    I don't understand.
"sync" means, "compare these things on device 1 with the same things on device 2, and make them both current, so that they both match."
When you sync iTunes, the songs in the iPhone's iPod app get matched with the selected songs in iTunes on the Mac/pc.
When you sync calendar events, the iPhone's Calendar gets matched with iCal on the Mac.
When you sync Contacts on the iPhone, those entries get matched with Address Book on the Mac.
So it stands to reason that there must be someplace on the Mac that holds "Notes things." If Notes on the iPhone go down some rat hole on the Mac, why would Apple bother sync'ing them at all? The effect for the user would then be completely nil. Except, I guess, when you sync that Mac with another iPhone -- those notes would go into the new iPhone and be visible there. Or after wiping all the data off an iPhone, sync'ing it with that Mac would restore them onto the iPhone.
But it would be un-Apple-like in the extreme for those notes not to go into a collection of TextEdit documents somewhere on the Mac. Did they actually flub this?? In a sync-coupling operation, is the more sophisticated device the one that CAN'T see these documents? Am I the only one who thinks this is crazy?
What I would like (and frankly, expect) to be able to do, is to capture data, say, from a web page on the go into a Note on my iPhone (this much I've done, using the iPhone's Select-Copy-Paste feature), and then sync it into a form that I can capture and manipulate its text (and maybe even images) on my Mac. I can't believe that Apple wouldn't enable this in some way!

I deleted my duplicate contacts one by one on my iPad but have lost over 600 contacts on my iPad they are all on my iPhone but when I sync my iCloud I only have 200 contact on my iPad but have all 820 on my iPhone can any one help

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
First check that all your settings are correct, that contact syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the contacts you are adding are added to your 'iCloud' group and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud group (you can do this by checking in groups), non iCloud contacts will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your contacts are in the iCloud group, you might try unchecking contact syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling contact syncing.
