Playlists disappeared on ipad2

The only playlist on my ipad2 is the purchased playlist but on my Mac computer, with ipad2 syncing over WiFi, I see all the playlists and music on my desktop but they are not showing up on my ipad. The summary also shows I have more songs on my ipad than what shows up on the ipad. Help!

Is there a way to make my Smart Playlists reappear in Music? After recently syncing my iPhone, all of the smart playlists disappeared on the phone itself. The entire library is on the phone as well as playlists I created, but the standard smart playlists no longer appear in the index of playlists. In iTunes, they still appear in the device's contents. I just can't seem to get to them through the phone itself.

I have been having the same probelm. Tonight I right clicked on each playlist and chose the option "Duplicate" I then deleted the original. After doing this with each playlist the new duplicates sync with my iphone just like the old ones used to. Hope that helps.

connect your Ipad to your Mac, choose MUSIC under your tabs at the top, drag and drop your MP3 music and press SYNC at the bottom to move songs to your Ipad
You have to select the songs in the Music Tab of iTunes when your iPad is connected to your laptop, with iTunes running and after you have selected (clicked on) your iPad name under the devices heading. This will give you an overview of the syncing process.

Playlists disappeared after a mp3 download-help!

I downloaded a song from music.download.com and I got a message when itunes opened that said something about library filed as damaged or something and then all my playlists disappeared. This song plays just fine in itunes and there is only 41 songs showing in "music" library when I had a few hundred. Where in the world did my playlists and everything go and how do I get them back? If I plug my ipod in then all my playlists will be deleted off of there too because they're no longer on itunes.
I hope there is a easy fix because I'm not real computer savvy. If you know how to get this all back to normal please be very specific in how to fix it. Thank you!

Try these in order - from best option on down...
1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

I had the same problem, cloud purchased music was gone from my computer after upgrading. But I read some more support stuff and they suggested removing the songs from your computer but don't delete the file and then you can download again from the cloud. Otherwise I wasn't getting the option to download - no need to rebuy music. Apple needs to know this was a problem though! Hope this is helpful to you. It is a pain but saving alot of frustration as to how to get it back. Good luck.

In iTunes 7 playlist disappears when shuffle removed

In iTunes 6 there was an option to keep the playlist of the shuffle shown above the smart playlist area after the iPod was removed. After updating to iTunes 7 I cannot find how to turn this back on.
Now when the iPod is either ejected or removed (properly) the playlist disappears. Am I missing something or has Apple removed this handy feature?
It was nice to be able to make changes to the iPod's playlist while the iPod was disconntected.

I was actually relieved to read that I wasn't the only one that lost my iPod playlist as soon as I removed my iPod. Being a newbie I thought I was doing something wrong. Now I will try and unintall version 7 and see if I can't go back to my original version, which worked JUST FINE.

- Delete all AB and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Manage Storage>Audio Book (if present) and delete
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

Use a program like YamiPod to export the playlists back into iTunes.

Playlist disappearance

Since July, my iPhone has randomly deleted notes that I've made, or reverted to earlier saved versions of notes. I do not have synching set up on my iPhone/computer, nor had it been attached to any computers (we were travelling in Europe). NOW, my iPhone has started doing the same thing with playlists. I created a new (amazing!) playlist on my iPhone and then the next time I went to play it, it was totally gone. I do NOT synch anything on my iPhone, never have, so why are my notes and playlists disappearing?! Thanks for your advice!!

My playlists disappeared!

I had an iTunes library with lots of playlists. I ran something called XNJB to copy some files from my desktop to a 3rd party (non-Apple) MP3 player device (not involving iTiunes). Oddly, when I did run iTunes, I saw that all my playlists had disappeared! Where are they kept? I do have a backup of my iTunes folder from before this happened; I tried copying the library files but that doesn't seem to have helped. How do I get them back??

It should ne in itunes on your computer and included in your regular backup of your computer.
If for some reason you have failed to backup your music, then - in the U.S only - you can get previous itunes purchases from the beta version of icloud. Open itunes store, click Purchased, under Quick Links.

Smart Playlists Disappearing-

This is incredibly frustrating… Any new smart playlist that I create will appear in the iTunes 11 sidebar as you would expect. However, it will not show up in the Playlists pane (the one where you select the playlists that you want to sync to your iPhone) when I select the iPhone in the sidebar.
And, I've just noticed, that if I edit any of the Smart Playlists in the sidebar, then they will also disappear from the Playlists pane.
I deleted and recreated the Recent Podcasts SP - it disappeared from the Playlist pane. Then I edited the Recently Added and My Top Rated SPs – they disappeared, too... extremely frustrating. Am trying to go back to iTunes 10.7... good luck with that...

Right... I've done a bit more hunting... I CAN add Playlists / Smart Playlists, but the problem is, if I change 'Media Kind' to 'is Podcast', the playlist disappears. *** is going on?
This has only started happening today, and it's happening for any iPhone I connect and it's happening with iTunes 10.7 as well...
