Playlists MUST be in alphabetical order?

I want to arrange my classical music playlists in order of the time composers were active. For example, I want Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms in that order. But playlists by default give me Beethoven, Brahms, Mozart in alphabetical order. I tried moving them like maiboxes in Apple Mail or icons in Finder or the Dock. This does work for concertos WITHIN the Mozart folder, but not for the Mozart playlist itself. I tried holding down command, option, control & shift. Nothing does it. For independent playlists, renaming them 1.Mozart, 2.Beethoven and 3.Brahms achieves the objective. But sub-folders under Apple's default "Classical Music" folder can't be renamed. iTunes Help has no entry about this. Is there a way to rearrange playlists? Advice much appreciated.

Here is something you can do. It is a bit time consuming and I don't recommend it, unless you are very anal about the way you want your playlist shown. I don't really recommend it because it can mess up your library if you have it neatly organized--but at this point I don't see another alternative.
First add all the tracks that you want on a playlist. Make sure you have added all you want before moving to the next step. Select them all, go to File --> Get info, and change the Album name for all the tracks. (eg "Josh's Classical Collection").
Once you have done this, you will change the track number for each track. This might be painfully slow according to the amount of tracks you have. Once you have done this, simply view your playlist as if it was one album and the tracks will be organized according to the track number you provided.
Hope this helps with your problem.

  • Smart playlists are not in alphabetical order on iOS 5.1 devices

One of the most frustrating things for me about iTunes Match is the fact that the smart playlists in iTunes (version 10.6) do not sync in alphabetical order on my iPad/iPhone running iOS 5.1.
Even though I click on the Name column and the songs in iTunes appear in alphabetical order, the songs appear in a random order on the iPad. I spent hours trying to fix this by turning iTunes Match off on my iPad, turning it on etc all to no avail. I created new smart playlists thinking that maybe the original smart playlists were corrupted in some way by the upgrade to the latest version of iTunes. This did not work either.
Then, I had an idea. I created a new playlist (not a smart one), called it Test Alpha, copied the songs from the smart playlist into it and waited for my iPad to update.
Voila! The songs in this new, non-smart playlist are in alphabetical order.
I do hope that this problem is fixed. It is a pain to do this for the 15 odd smart playlist I have. Hope this helps someone else.

No. And the problem persists in iOS 6 with the latest version of iTunes.
For three weeks, I had been talking on and off with a techie in Singapore. She got me to run all these test, send screen shots etc..
In the end, I was told that the engineers said 'that is how it's supposed to be'. Well, thank you very much. No help at all. No further discussion about the issue ensued.
Apple's arrogance will soon be the cause of its share price collapsing. My solution? I have not renewed my subscription to iTunes Match.

  • No alphabetical order in Playlist

I asked this before. Why does my Playlist not appear in Alphabetical order any more? Thanks YEEZY, but it's not about disappearing, it's about the correct alphabetical order of artists shown like A, B, C, etc and not random as now seen. What did I do or what do I do to correct it?

I was able to solve the problem of playing my iPod shuffle music in the order I wanted. After syncing my shuffle, I delete the songs listed in order on my playlist by clicking delete with my cursor over the playlist. The next thing you have to do to complete the shuffle clearing process is delete "music." One thing you cannot do with the latest upgrade to iTunes is "select all" for music and then hit delete. This will not delete the songs. Instead, hold down the control button and select songs manually (I'll select 20 at a time) and then hit delete, this will work. It takes a bit longer, but at least you can clear out your shuffle in preparation for adding a new playlist.
Once your shuffle is cleared out, select your playlist and drag it over your shuffle in the left column. The music will load and then it will appear in the order you want under your "playlist title" and in alphabetical order by artist under "music." Once this process is complete and you are ready to listen to your playlist in proper order, you will have to hold down the button on your shuffle. The shuffle at this point has two playlists - your list in the order you want to hear it and the same list with the songs in alphabetical order by artist.
Hold down the button on the shuffle and let go when it says a list. Once you have done this, start listening to your playlist. If it plays in the wrong order, hold the button down again until the voice says the other playlist and then start listening. You will find the list now plays in the order you want it to.
If you still have. Problem, yo can always put a number before each song starting with 01, 02, 03, etc ... And they will play in that order Nader "music."
Finally, I suggested to Apple support that they fix this problem in their IT dept and incorporate the fix in an upcoming new iTunes download. I would suggest you do the same so they will see there's a problem and fix it.

  • Each of my playlists on ITunes has songs in a particular order. I can move them around as I wish. 1 playlist has all songs in alphabetical order

I have several playlists. I can place songs on any of the playlists and move them up or down so they are in a set order. I was trying to move one particluar playlist to my IPod Shuffle. In the process of doing so, the songs on this playlist converted to alphabetical order. I can't move them back to the order I had them and I'm frustrated. How do I reestablish control of this particular playlist so I can move the songs back into the order I had them? I can still move any song on my other playlostys, but not this one for some reason. Thank you for your help.

I found the answer ... You have to go to the upper most left column (above the numbers) and click to place an arrow there. That was the only playlist I didn't have an arrow showing. Once I did this, I could once again move the songs in the order I wanted.
    Yes!!! :^)

Yeah - not really. Sorry - but you will need to get it fixed so you can back it up. You are going to want to Restore your new iPhone from that backup when you get it, so it will really be worth it.
As soon as you get your new iPhone, set up automatic iCloud backups, or if you don't have Wifi, then it is really important to get into the habit of backing your device up weekly to iTunes.
    Best of luck!

  • Can only get my Ipod shuffle to play in alphabetical order rather than in the order of the downloaded playlist, is this possible or will it only shuffle or play alphabetically?

can only get my Ipod shuffle to play in alphabetical order rather than in the order of the downloaded playlist, is this possible or will it only shuffle or play alphabetically?

You need to select the playlist on the shuffle, when you play it.  If you do not select a particular playlist, it plays from the All Songs list.  When you set the switch to play in order (not shuffle), the All Songs list plays in alphabetical order.
To select a playlist, use the VoiceOver feature.  This document explains how to set up and use VoiceOver.
iPod shuffle (4th generation): Enabling and using VoiceOver
When you select a playlist on the shuffle, it should play in playlist order (when the switch is set to play in order).

  • IS THERE AN ADD ON THAT LISTS YOUTUBE PLAYLISTS IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER?

I WANT TO GO INTO MY YOUTUBE PLAYLIST AND BE ABLE TO MAKE THE LIST ALPHABETICAL!!! IS THERE AN ADD-ON FOR THIS? OR DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN. HAVE MANY VIDEOS AND I'M TIRED OF TRYING TO FIND WHAT I WANT. ALPHABETICAL LISTING IS VERY QUICK. PLEASE HELP. SINCERELY, KAPAMAN

    Dear Gnittala,
I was not trying to be rude. I have cataracts and cannot see very well. So when I type I use capitals. I'm didn't mean to offend. I'm new to the web and believe that being rude comes from what you say and the words you use when speaking to someone, not how you type the words. I've visited forums where people are putting others down and swearing, but every word is typed in lower case letters. But thanks for the lesson in etiquette, I will just magnify my screen and type in the lower casing.
Thanks for the info about YouTube, but I've seen these already. Truly with so many people complaining about the alphabetical order being remove as an option for your playlist in You Tube, you would think they would put it back. Sincerely, KAPAMAN, kapaman, sorry ha ha

  • Why is my iPhone listing entries in a playlist in alphabetical order, rather than audiobook order?

I am trying to create a playlist of an audiobook.  When I look at the playlist on iTunes itself (on my MacBookPro), I was able to list it by author and it shows the disk order, but when I look at the same playlist on my iPhone 5, it lists the tracks in alphabetical order, which, as you can imagine, does NOT work.  It's like trying to listen to an audiobook on "shuffle."  I had another audiobook on a playlist, and that worked, so I'm rather confused at this point.
    It's an iPhone 5, Running iOS 7.1.1, with a MacBook Pro running OSX 10.9.3, iTunes 11.2.2 (3)

It turns out that by clicking a little arrow to the left of "name" on the header, the titles can be unalphabetized.

  • Touchpad Sync Sorts Playlists Out Of Alphabetical Order?

I sync with HP Play beta. Take a look at the bottom left, my playlists. What gives?

How to report a bug: http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipod.html
I just posted this at iLounge, figured I'd share what I discovered.
It seems that iTunes will not refresh the playlist folder list properly within the iPod after a re-sync.
For example, let's say you have a playlist folder for every letter of the alphabet. You sync one playlist in the folders for the letters A, C, E and M. The iPod will display them in that order.
Now lets say that you decide to put a playlist in that's in folder F. After you sync, you'll find that the iPod has not placed the F folder between E and M, it has placed it after M.
This behavior seems to apply to playlist within folder. 1st sync a playlist that begins with the letter W in a folder. Eject, then reconnect, and sync a playlist that begins with the letter P from the same folder. The iPod will now display the playlist that begins with the letter P after the one that begins with the letter W.
This behavior does not seems to apply to playlist outside of folders. Those are synced properly and in alphabetical order.
The only way around this seems to be to unselect the affected folders and playlist in the iPod sync page, sync to wipe, then re-sync everything to make sure it gets loaded in the proper order the first time.

  • How can I shuffle a playlist in iTunes for an iPod so my stereo play a large playlist in a seemingly random order

I have an iPod classic that I plug into my car stereo.  My car stereo can play playlists, or if just plug it in, it will play every song in alphabetical order.  Once plugged in, I cannot use the iPod to "shuffle".  I require a pre-shuffled playlist.  I have done this before in iTunes 11 will special instructions, but I've since misplaced those instructions.  I know how to build a large playlist of all of my songs.  Now, how do I shuffle that list of, say, 20,000 songs, and save to a new shuffled playlist?  Don't say it can't be done, because I've done it.  I know Apple removed the ability to do this quickly and easily, because obviously Apple doesn't really take their customers wants and needs into account.  Otherwise, they would see the thousands of complaints after they removed that feature.
So, is there anyone here that can help me?   I don't really need to hear that it's not supported or that it used to work.  If you know how to shuffle a playlist and save it in that shuffled state, please post the steps for doing this in Windows iTunes 11.
    Thank you in advance,
    Bluemookie

Just go to Settings, Shuffle, then turn it to Songs. The songs will stay in the same order in the playlist, but they'll switch it up.

  • Photos. They are on my macBook, backed up on time machine. Copied them (hours and hours) to external hard drive. They are now in alphabetical order (19,000  of them) NOT IN THEIR EVENTS or date order-and have been taken with different cameras- help!!!!!!

    Photos.
They are on my macBook, backed up on time machine. There are 19,000+ of them, some rescued from a pc crash- which I used the nifty iPhoto to put back into date order.
I want to take them all off my laptop, now............as I need to use it for WORK!!
Copied them (hours and hours) to another external hard drive.
They are now in alphabetical order (all 19,000+ of them) NOT IN THEIR EVENTS or date order. (-They have also been taken with different cameras over the years and some of the generic camera numbering remains.)
I have tried to copy them (only a few as an experiment)  one event at a time, but that again "opens up" the Event "folder" and tips them out as individuals and therefore just lists image letters and numbers alphabetically.
    How can I copy
the whole library still in  "Events" to an external hard drive?
the folders/albums I have already made on to this hard drive?
and how can I add to this back up monthly, again keeping events and folders separate and updated?
Mac is so user friendly - there must be a way.........
    Thanks

UPDATE : I have re-installed from disk, various apps that were no longer functioning such as iLife, iWork etc. So, I now can access my photos again.
Also, I had to re-install all the software for my printer ( Stylus Pro 4880 ) and reset it so the printer is working again.
Photoshop CS4 won't open. I think I will have to get in touch with Adobe as basically, I guess they have a built-in "blocker" which prevents me from opening the app as the license is for only 1 user and having re-installed the OS, there are now, in effect, 2 users ( Me and Me 1, I think ).
So, having added on a new external HD, Time Machine has made a copy of most of the files, folders, apps etc onto the external HD. The internal HD is still nearly full ( 220 GBs out of 232 GBs ).
I am guessing the way to go now in order to free up space on the internal HD is to delete/trash older photos from my iPhoto library and hope that if needed, I will be able to access them on the external HD.
Am I correct ? Please advise before I do something I will regret.
    Thanks, Sean.
