Playlists no Longer Shuffle

Hello,
I have a 30gb model. I use a ton of playlists and started noticing a problem shortly after downloading version 8 of Itunes. In Itunes the playlists are set to shuffle. On my Ipod the songs end up being sorted by artist (could be album but I'm not sure). I have tried resetting and all the other five R's that you are supposed to attempt when troubleshooting but nothing has helped. I have seen other discussions that suggest turning the shuffle option on the Ipod itself. I never had to do this in the past. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you....

If Shuffle is not turned on, on the iPod, the songs are played in the order they are in, in iTunes. It is not shuffling them on the iPod.
I don't want them shuffled on the iPod, I want the shuffle order from iTunes to match on the iPod, which it is not doing right now but used to before iTunes8.
I turned on Shuffle on the iPod, and yes, the playlist shows in the same order as on iTunes, but plays in random order (essentially shuffled twice). I turn off the Shuffle and the iPod playlist doesn't match.
I never had this problem before iTunes8 and haven't changed any settings on either end (other than for testing), so this is clearly a glitch. All I want is to have the iPod playlist play in the same order as on iTunes.
iPod shuffle on = lists in same order as iTunes, but plays randomly
iPod shuffle off = lists in unshuffled order, even though iTunes is shuffled
To copy the playlist to the iPod in the order you are viewing it in iTunes, right click the playlist name and select Copy to play order then sync the iPod.
Do I have to "Copy to Play Order" before each sync, or can I do it once and have it 'stick'?
When this playlist is played on the iPod, it will playback in this order on the iPod everytime you play it unless you have Shuffle turned on, on the iPod.
But it isn't. The play order isn't coming across from iTunes at all.

Storage space on the iPod would not affect shuffled playlists or playlist shuffling, though substantially full iPods may wind up skipping songs on larger playlists after a while, and require a restart.  As for compressing the files themselves, you can automatically re-encode files to a lower bitrate by checking the box on the summary page when your iPod is connected to your PC/Mac.
As for the shuffle problem, after restarting your iPod (hold the center button and Menu for a few seconds, until the Apple logo appears), make sure you're telling the iPod to shuffle the songs in a playlist by repeatedly clicking the center button until the Suffle Menu comes up, then scroll to the right to turn it on.  From that song forward, the playlists' contents should be shuffled every time the playlist ends, or is accessed from a new song.
Shuffle does sometimes turn itself off, I've found, so double-check the setting is still on.  Also, iPods shuffle by randomly assigning a playlist order for your songs, which is different from traditional shuffle (on, say, iTunes or Windows Media Player, where the new song is determined at random upon the current track ending.  The iPod only chooses a random order of songs when you shuffle, to conserve battery life and queue up songs coming up on the playlist in the event of a shock).

  • I have an old shuffle that holds all my favourite songs. How do I transfer these to my iPhone. My original iTunes playlists no longer exist

I have an old shuffle that holds all my favourite songs. How do I transfer these to my iPhone. My original iTunes playlists no longer exist

Basically, no, but as long as all the music is in the same iTunes library and it doesn't contain protected content from more than five Apple IDs, you don't need to. If desired, click here and ask the iTunes Store staff for assistance.

  • IPod no longer shuffles

The iPod piece on my phone no longer shuffles the songs within my playlist. Has anyone experienced something like this and if so how were you able to resolve it?

Are you tapping shuffle to start the playlist playing? (It's at the top of the list.)
Else, your 'global' shuffle was on and is now off - play any track, in portrait orientation (upright) tap the album artwork to bring up the scrubber bar - at the right, find the shuffle icon (crossed arrows), white is off, blue is on, tap it to toggle.

  • My Playlists won't shuffle

My created playlist will no longer shuffle. I have shuffle turned on and I have it set to songs only in the preferences, but it still doesn't shuffle them. I have turned shuffle on and off about 100 times and it still doesn't work. Help? Also, I have the 60GB video pod.

So I updated my MacBook Pro last night and now my playlists wont shuffle correctly. When I turn on the shuffle feature and I have a column selected (number, rating, etc), all it does is rearrange the songs.
    Rearranging songs is shuffling them.
it's not a real shuffle because I can still see which song is coming next
Yes itisi a real shuffle becuse the songs are not in track order. If you do not want to know what is coming next, don't look at the screen.
Or sort on any column besides the first (with the numbers) and the playlist will bounce around.
The first column is the play order.

  • Playlists no longer exist for updating??

My playlists on itunes are still listed along with all of the songs that are in them.. i can play the songs from the computer and nothing appears to have changed.... but recently I keep getting a message saying something like " songs cannot be updated because the selected playlists no longer exist" whenever i try to update my ipod and now all of the songs and info on my ipod are gone.
The only odd thing that has happened right before this was that a message came up saying "itunes can automatically create a playlist of songs that it chooses" I accidently agreed and as soon as another playlist was created i deleted it, and ever since i try to update my ipod i keep getting the above statement about the playlists no longer existing. What's the deal?

    What's the deal?
It seem like your iTunes Library now exceeds the size of your iPod and iTunes is (unsuccessfully) looking for the playlist that you accidentally deleted
Have a look at this article in the Apple Knowledge Base for some background.
Your best bet is to recreate that playlist, naming it your iPod's name Selection, and put the music you want transferred over in that playlist.
iTunes should be able to take care of things from there.

  • IPod can not update, playlists no longer exist

For some reason after downloading the newest version of iTunes (though it could have been from something I did) everytime I try to update my iPOD with the latest songs and playlists I get a message that reads "songs on the iPod XXXXX can not be updated because all of the playlists selected no longer exist."
Anyone have any idea what I did? I even reset my iPod and that did not help so I have a 60GIG iPod with no music.

This is what sometimes happens when you delete that special playlist that iTunes created for you:
iPod cannot sync because one or more playlists no longer exist

  • IPod Nano Won't update, says playlists no longer exist,

I am really getting frustrated with my iPod nano. First it started off by not updating songs. Then it started to erase songs when i connected it to itunes. So i erased everything hoping that would fix it. But now when I try to put them back on the computer says iPod update complete but there are no songs. It also say that the iPod can't be updated because the playlists no longer exist.
If anyone knows how to fix this problem please respond as soon as possible.
    Thanks

Ok, first try a restore. Next, on the playlist issue...
Did you delete the playlists from iTunes? If so, then the iPod is trying to automatically update, but it can't, since the playlists no longer exist. Try putting your iPod into manually update; you can find that in the iPod Options tab.

I would understand it if you checked email on your Mac, and then those messages were not available on your iOS devices if you had the advanced account setting "remove copy from server after retrieving message:" set to immediately.
I looked through my iPhone settings and don't even see an option to tell my phone to pull the only copy of a message and delete it from the server.
Possibly there is another setting in Lion (I am running Snow Leopard still) that tells your Mac to only synchronize mail to your iOs devices and is not pulling mail directly from iCloud.
You could try disabling your current iCloud email account in Mac Mail, and adding a new one and just telling Mail it is a standard IMAP account (imap.mail.me.com incoming and smtp.mail.me.com outgoing).
I did that for Leopard to get my email even to work after MobileMe is cancelled and it seems to work fine with my iPhone.
If that doesn't work, you can delete that new email account and re-enable the temporarily disabled iCloud email account from above.
    Hope this helps.

Yes. Configure your Shuffle to sync only selected playlists from under its Music tab.  This article should be able to assist you with this.

  • How do I get to a certain playlist on the shuffle?

How do I get to a certain playlist on the shuffle?

    Hey there lauramit,
If I understand correctly you want to be able to select different playlists on your iPod Shuffle. The following article will help you be able to do that with the Voice Over option:
iPod shuffle (4th generation): Enabling and using VoiceOver
To enable VoiceOver when you set up iPod shuffle
Connect iPod shuffle to your computer.
Follow the onscreen instructions in iTunes. "Enable VoiceOver" is selected by default.
    Click Continue.
In the Summary button, under Voice Feedback, choose the language you want from the Language menu. This sets the language for your spoken system messages and playlist names, as well as many of the song titles and artist names.
Click Apply. When setup is complete, VoiceOver is enabled on iPod shuffle.
To choose an item from the playlist menu
Press and hold the VoiceOver button. You hear the names of your playlists.
When you hear the name of the playlist you want, press the VoiceOver button or Play/Pause to select it. The first item in your playlist plays. When you're listening to the playlist menu, you can press Next/Fast-forward or Previous/Rewind to move forward or backward in the playlist menu.
To restart a playlist, follow these steps to select the playlist you want.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Sterling

  • Podcast playlist no longer works

I just synced my ipod nano, and my podcast playlist no longer works. This seems to be due to an upgrade to iTunes 9. It seems to only want to deal with music files in playlists, not podcasts. What am I doing wrong?

  • Video playlists no longer auto-playing (4.3)

I've noticed that my music video playlists no longer auto-play from one song to the the next with the latest OS update (iPhone 4.3, Apple TV 4.2). Basically, a music video stops and the next one doesn't start until I press play again.
    Any solutions?

    I have the same problem.
I am using an iPhone 4 (iOS 4.3) and various Apple TVs (4.2).
When i start a playlist with music videos from the iTunes store, the first video will be played on the Apple TV and then Apple TV plays this Video again but "repeat" is not selected. Actually the next clip in the list shut be played. Seems to be a bug :-(
